Some background on my phone first. I thought that I bricked it a few weeks ago when I flashed a kernel for it that went to a fascinate. I thought that the showcase was and is a twin to it. But my phone would not boot up. Did some more research and ended up flashing CWM 3.0 and then PnP 3.0 and eb11 build and had a phone again. Well had no problems till yesterday when my phone just did a reboot by itself and then I had no service and under about phone several of the categories said unknown. I took it to cellsouth and left with a phone that would not even boot up! All I can do is boot in CWM but if I try flashing a anything it says either error with restoring boot image or something about updating sript and binary files. Can somebody help me out?
Check out this thread, second post after original op, it has files and process to odin the Showcase. This is most likely your best option. GO HERE
just found a link with the showcase stock file..im downloading now and will let you know if it works. had the same problem as you. now im using fascinate bases and cant get my 3g
Well I got it to where I can at least talk on it!... I flashed it back to a stock DL09 with odin. Which it now looks and acts just like a Verizon phone. So I can talk and text but has NO data of any kind unless I connect to wifi. I think that I need to flash a DJ20 or EB11 radio to it but not sure, Maybe somebody could lend there knowledge again. Thanks so far.
i was just like you...had to use that verizon rom. however i did find a c.south stock rom and got to normal.YES!! but still working on getting 3g back up. i think it messed up when i flashed another modem or somthing. i'll post link in a sec.

If you have clockworkmod installed on it, boot into cwm and wipe data/cache/dalvik and flash a different showcase kernel that you know works. Do you have a functioning showcase kernel already on your sd card?
You flashed a Verizon Fascinate kernel onto a Telus Showcase. Good job.
Dude I did the same thing my advice and what worked for me is flash the cell south showcase rom. Root your phone get rid of all cell south Apps make it look stock take it back get a new one that's if your in your 60 or 90 days i forget what it is as far as I know there's no roms For are showcase yet. If they give u **** just say u talked to customer service and samsung and u told them your phone seemed really slow and u noticed a few apps always running that shouldn't be even after you killed them like screen capture service and a few others and they told u it's probably a phone defect and should take it back and pick the rep that's looks like they want to go home they only want sells and will get you out as quick as possible. I hope all works out well for you I know how it is I'm on frog and payed 450..... but it should
Got my cell south Rom from some dudes in a irc chat room #samsung-mesmerize they helped me out a lot and if your willing to dump your Rom when u get a new phone they will make you a Rom for your phone

Telus doesn't use the Showcase. They use a GSM version of the Fascinate. The Showcase is a CDMA phone that is like a twin to the Verizon Fascinate and the US Cellular Mesmerize.

Slow down there buddy I'm on a showcase sch i500 cdma right now n-telos does have it they started selling it around may 1st its not gsm n-telos is cdma a little different then the cell south found out the hard way
Same problem here. Found directions to install Cyanogen 7.1 on a Samsung Showcase as it listed it to be compatible. Downloaded ClockworkMod Recovery and installed it using Heimdall Suite 1.1.1. Used CWM to then install the Cyanogen 7.1 rom and Google apps rom as well. All seemed good except for when it booted it listed my carrier as Cellular South. My carrier is actually Ntelos.
Needless to say the only thing that initially worked were voice calls and the web for some reason. Text messaging was broken(a big one with me).
I tried to *228 to see if that would maybe program the phone for the proper settings but it did not work.
So I thought that because I had backed up my phone with CWM I could just revert back to my old image and all would be well. The restore function did not work. Rebooting into CWM from the ROM manager I was able to initiate the restore. All seemed well and it notified me it had restored. When I rebooted my phone however it was frozen at the Samsung logo. I rebooted into CWM and cleared my cache and did the factory reset only to find that after a reboot it just loads straight to CWM.
Now I basically have a useless phone. I can reinstall Cyanogen but I no longer have signal for service. It also seems hit or miss as to if it installs with no problems. Sometimes it will install and the default widgets will show errors loading. The google apps will not install sometimes even though they show confirmed through CWM. I can reboot the phone from ROM manager into CWM and it will perform the restore just the same as the first time without any problems but the phone will not boot back up to the stock ROM. If I try to boot straight to CWM using Volume+Home+Power it will not perform the restore. It goes through small part
Erasing boot before restore...
Restoring boot image...
Restoring system...
Error mounting /system
That's as far as I get.
I'm basically stuck in this vicious cycle with no end in site. I've tried researching til my eyes hurt to find a solution to my problem. I can't find a stock ROM anywhere. Obviously the combination of a small carrier and a small audience for this model phone yields little along the lines of widespread support. So I've came here to the XDA Developers board in hopes that someone will be able to help me.
Ok, here's the deal:
Rooted the device, everything was a-ok.
Installed Clockwork, everything still a-ok.
Tried using mod manager to install Cyanogen nightly 9, phone rebooted and the progress bar for the mod install wouldn't move. I waited for a while and eventually manually turned the device off as it wasn't making any progress.
Ever since, it won't go past the screen you get at the beginning (w/ the yellow sign indicating an unsecured rom). It just stays there forever.
What I have to work with:
- Clockwork Recovery is available.
- The device is recognized by Odin when in download mode.
- The device is not recognized by the computer/Kies.
What I've tried:
- Followed the instruction for boot loop w/ both stock rom and Villain (no dice).
I'm sorta freaking out now. I have yet to see anyone having the same problem online and I really hope it's not bricked - a 600$ paperweight...
Is there something else I can try? Is it possible to flash stock PIT/Bootloader/PDA/everything else? If it is, would it fix the problem?
Please just point me in the right direction.
Thank You,
Edit: In recovery mode, the following error appears:
- Can't access to "/system/csc/VMC/system/"
Edit: In download mode, the current binary is set to "Samsung Official". Therefore I think this isn't the problem.
Edit: OMG OMG holy crap. Problem has been solved. Got a friend who had the same phone from the same provider to tell me what the firmware for the phone was. Downloaded it. Installed it w/ Odin. I almost turned religious when it booted a bit slower than what I remembered. It works well enough now, although I will probably go exchange it for a new one ASAP, before my warranty expires.
If anyone has similar problems. Don't panic and re-install stock firmware.
Cheers Folks!

Look online (samfirmware), ask friends or on forums for anyone who has the SGS2 w/ the same carrier in the same country and try to find the firmware version (I9100***** - the stars are letter codes). Then just download that firmware and use Odin to install it.
If you can't find it,you presumably could just flash any stock firmware and it might work (or it might make things worse, try at your own risk)

The progress bar not moving is a known issue with the CM7 Recovery. All you need to do is wait for it to say that it's finished. There is nothing wrong with your phone and no need to return it. You just cancelled the CM7 install part way through which meant not all required files were installed on the phone, causing it to not boot.
As for it taking longer to boot into android after the odin reflash. That's because it has to build up it's dalvik-cache again. This is completely normal any time you install a new rom. It only happens on first boot of a rom.
So again, no need to return your device and feel free to try CM7 again. Just remember to let it finish even if the progress bar isn't moving.
Ahh. Ok that makes sense. This ought to teach me to read before screwing around w/ my phone.
I wanted to exchange it because I wasnt sure i'd still be able to install official Samsung firmware updates through Kies.
Suppose an official 2.3.4 firmware comes out, would i be able to install it through Kies?

Yes, as long as the firmware you're flashing is the same as the stock version that came on the phone. And even if not, you'll get the kies updates for whatever region firmware you did flash onto the phone.
I see. Thanks a lot!
Is there any danger to flashing firmware from a different region than the one youre from?

Hey All,
I've been looking for an answer for over a day now, but can't seem to find anything about my specific problem. Here's what happened:
I had flashed to ICS 4.0.3 on my Samsung Vibrant about a month ago and everything was working great until yesterday when I woke up to find the "Encryption Unsuccessful" screen on my phone. I did a little research to find out that there is a fix to this and to NOT reset the phone. So, I took the steps to ODIN the phone back to Stock Eclair in hopes that starting from the beginning again would be easiest way to fix the problem. The ODIN process finished completely fine (PASSED), but now when it reboots, I only get to the first "Vibrant" screen, then it shows the battery and spinning circle icon. Apparently it won't fully reboot. I've tried to ODIN it back to stock several times, and I keep getting the same results. I can get it into download mode and plugged into my computer, but that's about it.
From the posts I've read, it sounds like my phone might still be okay to recover since it does power up, but I can't seem to find a solution to get it fully back up and running.
Any help/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
Maybe your JFD file is corruption. Check with your MD5 sum if there any error or mismatch.. Just give you an idea.BTW what Odin are u using. I recommend Odin 1.7 I stay away the older Odin or the newer Odin
You are screwed.
Sorry to tell you this but i had the exact same problem and found no solution whatsoever to fix the phone. I finally gave up and bought a Galaxy Nexus. You can try flashing Eugene's Unbrickable Froyo Rom which is flashable through odin as a .tar package along with the pit file. You might be able to fix it but i highly doubt it. I flashed Eugene's rom and got the same results as you described. By any chance did you click "Reset Phone" when the "Encryption Unsuccessful" showed up? If so well yeah your phone is pretty much paperweight as of now...until someone finds a solution. Like you i am also able to access download mode. So i guess there may be a way to fix your phone. Not saying it's impossible...hopefully someone finds a solution soon.
Here is the link to Euguene's rom: http://eb-productions.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=samsungsgs&action=display&thread=8
Good luck.
OP, what ROM were you running (specifically. Not just ICS 4.0.3-what is the name of the ROM)? Also what kernel?
Since you are not the only one this happened to, I would like to know the above and see if it correlates to the others that this happened to in the Vibrant section. I'll post the same in their threads too.
Check here out for a possible solution/workaround.
Replacement Vibrant Coming
Thanks for your recommendations/help guys.
I decided to go to T-Mobile and complain and they are sending me a replacement phone. Apparently it's still under warranty, so it won't cost me anything, and if my data is lost, then so be it...at least all my contacts will still be in tact through my Google account.
Merio - I did NOT hit the Reset Button when I saw the Encryption Unsuccessful screen. Before doing anything I did a little research and I found a forum here on xda that said to not hit that button, and tried to explain a way to fix it using the Heimdall One-Click. Basically it sounded like I'd be flashing back to a Gingerbread ROM. So, instead I just went ahead and tried to flash back to stock Eclair. The results of that were obviously not good.
Woodrube - I was running the Passion 13 ROM (ICS 4.0.3). Was really enjoying it until I got the Encryption "Screen of Death"
I don't know what Kernel it was, actually, I don't really know what a Kernel is...
Thanks again guys. Hopefully I'll be up and running on my replacement phone soon!
Now I know this question, in general, has been asked a lot. I've literally searched and tried the solutions in other threads, but this phone might be beyond help. I just want to know if someone has another solution as to how to revive this phone. I honestly think my situation is different than most....I downloaded and installed Team Hacksung's ICS 4.0.3 Build 6.1 ROM and I was using it just fine for a couple of months. Everything was working the whole time. Today, I am browsing through my local news station's app and my phone freezes on me! I pulled the battery and restarted the phone. It boots up fine and gets to the startup screen with the time and the screen lock. I did notice right away that the digitizer screen was not responding to my touch because I could not slide my lock over to get into my phone. I tried a few more soft resets and still nothing. I did notice, however, that the soft keys at the bottom did respond to my touch and they blinked and provided haptic feedback, so at this point I'm thinking it shouldn't be a problem with my digitizer. So I took the battery out then put the phone into recovery and wiped data, cache and dalvik. Then I rebooted the phone once again and still no response to touch at the home/lock screen. I then proceeded to try to reflash the same ICS ROM all over again and that's where the problem started. I can get into download mode and I've already tried to load stock froyo and stock gingerbread, but nothing works. My phone will not go past the "Samsung" boot-up screen. I've already tried several other forums' threads on how to recover a bricked Fascinate, but no matter what I try to load with Odin, Heimdall or anything else, my phone won't load past the Samsung screen. I can get into Download mode and that's it. My phone will not go into recovery using the 3-finger method. When I run odin I get a success message each time. I've even tried to heimdall the files individually and even tried to reload the stock kernel. The other problem I am running into is a lot of the links on these sites are all broken so I am unable to get the files I need. Has anyone else ever had this problem?
Edit: P.S. When the phone is off and on the charger, the grey battery shows the "loading" circle (whatever you call it) in the middle of it, but never converts to showing the green bars moving up and down indicating the battery is being charged. The loading circle is also frozen and does not spin.

Are you referring to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1238070?
If so, I just did it and it won't go past "Samsung."
Did you do check repartition and use the atlas pit file? That would be key, I believe, in returning you properly to stock.

I used heimdall front end to load DI01 files, I didn't use any commands. Also, I was just referring to "Unbrick your samsung fascinate" threads on other websites. A lot of the links I found were outdated or broken.
yea unfortunately not many guides have working links these days...Mine is about the only one left that is kept up to date. Im very suprised a full odin session did not fix your issues. One thing left to try is to odin a older stock package like DL09
Found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526488
Just tried pushing the DL09 file in odin AND in heimdall and neither worked. I still get stuck on the "Samsung" boot and it goes no further. Can't even get into recovery....
I think I truly have a brick...
kinna long shot
but why not try a different PC and a new or different cable.
believe me a faulty cable did me in, a week back and i was sure at the time that my phone is gone, but then it wasn't as bad as the impression i am getting from your description.
all the best with this , and hoping that something solves this issue.
god bless

I am having a similiar problem now. I was able to odin an older CWM (3.0 blue I got somewhere). From there I mounted usb and loaded ext4_formatter_all.zip. I ran this script and odin'd dh03 and finally got back to stock. That's where I am now.
Hope this helps

I have a blue recovery [3.x, voodoo], here it is if the OP wishes to try it.
[Use Heimdall and select recovery]
cwm3_voodoo-blue.bin http://www.mediafire.com/?4ls06x8gha88vtp
cwm4-bml-i500-fascinate.bin http://www.mediafire.com/?2ny1ql66yh69bn3

05f3e376ca697fd0fb8700dea05254aa cwm4-bml-i500-fascinate.bin
I threw in an extra 4.x cwm for good measure, lol. [I saved these in a folder in case I ever needed them..I was going to delete the folder since I upgraded to THS ICS rom (build 7.1), but I decided not to delete them for some reason]
it seems OP sounds like he knows what he is talking about, but lets start simple.
Have you tried going all the way back to 100% stock?
In droidstlyes FANTASTIC guide
do section 5, perhaps try with out repartition or the atlas....that has worked for me in the past.
I know on my THS ICS 7.1 build i had a "sleep of death" (wouldnt wake up) and i was lazy and did the 3 finger salute and it would ONLY boot into CWM. a battery pop would have been fine but like i said i was lazy. i had to Odin back to stock in order to re-flash everything. [luckily i had a nandroid from a few days earlier]
Good Luck
Edit: I have never seen or heard of a fassy that CAN get into Download mode and not be recovered to 100% functional.
I'm just thinking out loud here, but here are two things to consider. Perhaps the senior members will comment.
1. Have you considered flashing a different bootloader?
2. Is it possible you have a corrupt stock and/or pit file? Have you tried re-downloading them and giving it another go?
OP, can you post the md5sums of the files, along with the filenames that you are using in Odin/Heimdall?
thanks
Well, I ended up getting a droid bionic from a friend, so I will turn this fassy into a project phone. If I can get it to work I will sell it or keep it for backup. Anyway...
I have not tried the older blue recovery yet. I will try that when I get back to my computer. It seems like I've gone beyond anything I've ever had to try with this phone. I read on one thread that if odin did not work, keep trying heimdall over and over until the phone boots up. I must have tried at least 8 times on one run. It still won't go past samsung screen. I can get into download just fine. No matter how many different cwms I try, I can't get into recovery using the three finger method. Im pretty knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff and I didn't flash the wrong rom or kernel or anything like that. I was running smoothly on an ics rom until my phone froze. I did have it overclocked with ns tools, but not at the time the phone froze. I honestly don't think its hardware related, but merely a glitch in the software or a bad kernel that does not want to come out? I have no clue....help me revive this baby lol...

I've tried different pit files from different threads. Even the one from droidstyle's thread. I've also tried different versions of the following stock files from different "known" and trusted sites: DI01, DL09, ED01, EB01, EH03, CM7, CM9 other ICS roms and different kernels that suit each both voodoo and non voodoo. And excuse my newbness on the terms, but what do you mean by flashing a new bootloader?

Bootloaders can be flashed in Odin the same way a ROM can. A bootloader is the rudimentary software that gets the other software up and running. When Glitch's kernel started requiring Gingerbread bootloaders for complete functionality, a lot of us realized that just having GB didn't mean you had GB bootloaders.
http://www.mediafire.com/?fqojvsynkff93hc
Hopefully this link will work. It's certainly worth a try. It doesn't seem like you have much to lose. I'd recommend flashing it the exact same way you do a ROM. There's a bootloader section in Odin, but most people avoid it. Good luck.
For starters, I did look through the forums, but did not see my particular problem. I hope someone can assist! Oh, thanks, in advance
I was running CM11 on my sch-i605 for a while. It developed a little bug that I decided was too frustrating to wait for a fix, so I decided to UNROOT. Well, all I did was **** up everything.
I managed to unroot & flash VRUEMJ9 back onto the phone. The problem is, I no longer have any service. Everything is listed as unknown; IMEU, Phone #, PRL, etc..all say unknown.
So, now I ROOT again, with saferoot. All goes smoothly. I went to install a recovery program (s) with Odin 3.09, and all fail. I tried ROM Manger & when I try to go into recovery, it boots to boot logo and stops. I tried wityh GooManager, same thing. Please chime in with suggestions. I don't know if putting another ROM on will fix my "service issues", but I can't think of anything else to try. Oh, I went to Verizon & got another sim card, but same issue
Thanks!
I believe you need to flash a stock rom (preferably the 4.1.2 tw) and make sure you have your signal back IMEI etc. Then flash a recovery then to whatever ROM you'd prefer.

Thanks!

OK. . Did you flash the OTA VRUEMJ9? Bc if so..I'm sorry to say you have a locked bootloader now with no way of flashing any custom ROMS. . If this is the case.. to get hit service back, IMEI, baseband and all the goodies, you need to flash the MJ9 firmware HERE. .Make sure you flash with the pit file in this thread as well..
Make sure to hit thanks on both those links..
