Depends on the class of your SD card and the number of applications you've installed. If you're using Launcher Pro, just restart it once to see the refreshed list of apps. I faced this issue but I think it has been fixed in the latest release of Launcher Pro.
But generally, more the number of apps, more time it takes. You also have to consider how much music, images, etc you've on your card.

Hi everyone facing this people from few hours I transfered some files to the mem card and when I removed the phone the applications are not showing at all I had shortcuts of two on the home screen surprisingly they work but have no icons just the name.
The movie I transfered is playing fine so I guess the card is in its place but all of i mean all of the mem card applications are not showing in the menu.
I've launcher pro also just to tell but its also not showing any icons using oi file explorer I'm copying ask the necessary things to memory card but its a pain in a** to instal more that thirty applications again.
Somebody help please.
One more thing when I try to instal an application again it shows it installed and try to replace it there are so many apps that are having data from the internet I don't wish to do it again my wifi's not working.

You can't just move the android_secure onto a new sd card and to a new rom. you need to use titanium backup. root and then get from market for free.
Does anyone know how to get around the limit of installing no more than 123 apps to SD? I have a Samsung Epic. I can install more than that to SD but when I reboot my phone doesn't see the apps on the SD card and it slows down and becomes unusable. I know I can move some to the phone, but I don't want to do that. I have tried different Froyo and Gingerbread roms. Is there any way to up the limit past 123? Thanks.
I can honestly say that I do not have this issue.
I have an Epic 4G Touch, and currently have 202 apps on my SD card with no issues.
I am currently running the Stock ROM.
Are you on Gingerbread? Is your phone rooted? I use Titanium Backup to restore my apps.
Running GB, 2.3.4
Rooted
I also use TB, but everything on there now is a fresh install.
Feel free to use me to help narrow down some of the possibilities for why yours isn't working...
I'm also using GB, Rooted and I use Titanium. What do you mean everything on there is a fresh install? You didn't use Titanium to restore it?
I've tried different SD cards to no avail. I've tried having different roms, kernels and modems to no avail. As soon as i put app # 124 on my card (doesn't matter what app it is), and then I reboot my device, my phone then becomes unusable in the GUI.

When I say everything on is a fresh install, I mean that I'm re-downloading and installing everything in very small batches, rather than using what I had backed up. After I get something down, and verify that it is working, I back it up.
The reason for this is that I kept getting my phone stuck in a bootloop, and couldn't figure out what was causing it. So I decided that it was almost as easy to re-download everything as it was to restore from backup, since I was pretty much doing it all one app at a time.
AppBrain has made that easier than I expected, though it hasn't relieved any of the tedium.
This may be an absurd question, but after you have broken the 123 barrier and rebooted, have you let your phone sit undisturbed for a while so that everything has a chance to catch up?
I know that as the amount of apps on my SD increases, the time from boot until the phone is "usable" increases as well. I've gotten around this by using Tasker to reboot the phone about fifteen minutes or so before I wake in the morning. That way, no matter if it takes two minutes or ten, it has plenty of time.
Also, have you tried completely busting the 123 barrier? Perhaps jumping straight to 150 or something would make a difference.
Googling for a brief bit only finds a couple of references to there being a limit on the number of apps, but that was supposedly resolved after Froyo.
Yes, I realize it takes a while to discover all the apps on the card after booting. I give it a while and the icons still just stay as a generic SD icon. If I go into Manage Applications those apps on the card are just the generic icon.
I have about 200 apps. I've restored them all before with Titanium and it still has the same problem. I've searched the web as well and saw that someone said it may be a Froyo limitation, but I've tried different Gingerbread roms and the problem still exists.
I've also tried RFS and EXT and it makes no difference.

Do you have the same problem using different SD cards?

Yes, I bought a new SD card and still have the same problem. Old card was 16GB class 2, new card is 32GB class 4.
I've backed up and restored with MyBackup Pro as well and the same problem exists.

Some ROMs (like Cyanogenmod) let you move apps to the SD after installing on internal. You might try moving an app doing that and see if that breaks your barrier.
Also, try using that SD formatter for windows that Samsung or Panasonic make. A Google search will turn it up.

I would suggest trying a class 10 sd card, but a class 6 should do fine. Also look for a firmware update for your phone as that could be the issue.
I've already tried using the card the way it came, I've formatted with Windows, I've formatted with CWM, I'm not so sure that using SD formatter will make much difference.
I have already tried moving apps to SD with the built-in app to sd functionality and it still causes problems when I get above 123 apps.

I don't have a class 10 sd card sitting around, so I can't try that. Why would the speed of the card affect how many apps can run off it?
What do you mean try a firmware update? I've tried the stock rom, and many custom froyo (ec05) and gb (ei22) roms and the problem still happens.
the faster the card the more bandwidth it has, so it can access more things at any given time.
Small question: Do you really use all of those apps?

Epic 4G Move App to SD card limit
HI
I am experiencing the same problem with my EPIC 4G on a Gingerbread ROM. I have tried multiple times with different kernels to work with more than 150 apps on the SD card.
They all move over fine, but on the first reboot the phone fails to find them and goes in to a reproducible loop where it starts up, works very slowly for 2 minutes, then gives a haptic feedback buzz as it reboots, over and over for days.
I know the limit is between 84 and 150 apps on the SD card because I have a working backup image with 84 apps moved over. My experience has been that around the 120+ mark, it just goes very bad very quickly.
If you don't mind my asking, how do you know the limit is 123?

I just got a new sd card with more memory space(had 2g now 16g). Now that i have the room i would like to transfer all my apps to sd. The thing is a lot of the apps i have ive made into widgets that way i dont have to scroll thru my app drawer every time. My bf was telling that if it is an app that i made a widget then i cant transfer it to sd. He says that the app ends up failing or having issues. I transferred my titanium a little while ago and have not had any issues. So im wondering if what he told me is true or that i can transfer to sd without encountering issues down the road??

As long as your not using built Widgets but an app shortcut (which is what it sounds like your doing) you maybe OK. But yes apps stored on SD cards with Widgets do get messes up.
If you need the widgets you'll need to leave on the phone memory. Most of these apps state this in their documentation.
Sometimes apps requires you to download a widget if you plan on moving the app to the sd card.
So i have installed about 3 pages of apps, and i decided that it was a lot and i should move them to sd card. I used titanium backup and moved all my apps to my sd card. Rebooted. And these past couple of days I have noticed the following.
I had blue skies live wallpaper after i moved it to sd it would no longer be the wallpaper ater i rebooted my phone. I would manually have to set it over again. this kind of bugged me.
Draw something. Whenever i opened this app it would look like its about to open but then my screen would just go blank, and after a couple of seconds i would have to press the lock button and i would be at the launcher. (there was no force close dialog box)
Speed test- this app would just force close and there would be a dialog box.
So i reinstalled draw something and it seems to work fine now, and i think its because its not on the sd card.
Also the appbrain market just shows a grayed icon and when i click it it just says the application is not installed in your phone. It has sd written on the icon. But my other apps from the sd card are loaded why isnt this one?
My question is should or are there some apps that should/need to be left on the phone to work properly?
There are definitely some apps that should not go to the SD card. Widgets don't usually like getting moved there. I can imagine live wallpapers don't either. Draw Something, ink not sure about, but if you're having performance issues with it then try moving it back.
Apps on the sd card will be loaded last, so if you have them on your homescreen, you may notice the generic Android icon until the phone finishes losing after a reboot and the sd card has been scanned.
Generally, if the app is ok to move, it'll be available in settings-> applications-> manage applications-> sd card tab. Check off the box to move an app to the sd card.
Yeah I agree with this method, it's manual, and you have to do it one app at a time, but it's the safest way to put what can be put on your SD card. As for Draw Something, I just tried moving it to my SD card and it still worked. I did it via the method described here and not thru titanium backup.
I would imagine going through titanium backup moved the files but might not make the required links from the phone to the sd card, just a guess though (think shortcuts in windows).

Oh okay thanks for the replies guys. Ill try removing the apps from my sd card and trying again with the method above.
Depending on what class your SD card is and what app is on it could affect performance.
Class number = MB/s
So a class 2 sd card would be rated at 2 MB/s, and so on and so forth.

Speed of the card is also a good point.
I just stumbled upon it and I though it might be useful. In order to move an app from your phone's internal storage to your SD card, you just need to
1) open Settings -> Apps
2) Tap on an app
3) Tap on Storage
4) Tap Change
5) Tap SD card
PS: Obviously apps will take more time to open (the delay is noticable in facebook).

You don't even need to do that. Just long press any app then >app info>storage etc...

Welcome to Android! :silly:
And for anyone tempted to try, the onboard 64 gig is far faster than any SD card you can currently buy. Many apps will run poorly, if at all. Moving apps to the SD card should be an absolute last resort, right after you've figured out which apps you really didn't need in the first place.

I tend to agree, I moved a much of apps to my SD now things run much slower I regret doing so.
Moving apps to SD is soooo kit kat....
Depends on what apps you moved i guess.
Ive notified NO CHANGE on the apps ive moved. WhatsApp is on the SSD card and behaves just as it did on internal.
Let's see.. samsung internet , Firefox, textra, all amazon apps, google drive, instagram, Snapchat, outlook, pandora, OneDrive...
NO DIFFERENCE at all.
Now there was one app, samsung gear 360, it did NOT like to be on storage card (kept force closing even though i was not using it when this was happening) so i moved it back to internal.
Also not ALL of the apps data is moved to the SD card. Some data of the app still lives on the SD.
EDIT: i dont use crackbook aka Facebook, so i cant speak on that, but i use WhatsApp, for example, and it opens up normally. No lag. None of the apps i moved are behaving out of normal. Again this is dependent on other factors, but in my daily use environment i dont notice any lag.
I also dont use the memory and storage optimizer (killing apps in the background from running)...
The internal storage is faster than sd unless you can find one of their new faster sd cards...if you move a lot of apps you may see performance loss...
