We are thrilled to announce today that software updates to support bootloader unlocking will begin rolling out in August for the global HTC Sensation, followed by the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA and the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint. We’re in the testing phase for the unlocking capability now, and we expect it to be fully operational by early September for devices that have received the software updates. We'll continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments

Key phrases in this memo:
'SUPPORT bootloader unlocking'
'BEGIN'
'followed by..........'
'EXPECT'
'EARLY SEPTEMBER'
'SOFTWARE UPDATES'.
This announcement has obviuosly been SCRUBBED by HTC legal. They just created a ****ton of loopholes for themselves, and gave themselves a LOT more time. We need to realize that the way they worded this sets it up to where we'll have to accept OTAs BEFORE the whole 'unlocking capability' is updated.
Not thrilled.

Wow, great ROM. can this be flashed without having S=OFF? Or do I have to wait for HTC to....
...oh, this isn't anything begin DEVELOPED. Its just GENERAL information about HTC making more promises.
Too bad there isn't a place specifically for GENERAL information to go...
Since there is no such place I guess it should just stay here right?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but i read something from December dating SC is released after 120 days. So shouldn't it be getting released at the end of this month?

last update was 1/12ish(least thats what they dated on sprints site)
add 120 days to that and you get MAY 11th. lol
they usually give us crap saying they have 90-120 days and usually its before 90days and around 60days if im remembering correctly. So that puts it either March 12th(60days) or April 11th(90days)....
hell they might not publish it out at all depending on the time frame of the ICS OTA they push out...

Me and another member have a feeling that ICS will either leak or come as an OTA this week. We can't provide source information or pics or anything but our sources work for Sprint and HTC. Just be on the lookout.
I mean I could see it with the new Evo coming out soon. I think we'd see a leak and not the official for a little while or just get the OTA. I mean with the need Evo coming out, devs could use that to port to over to the 3D and it should have working 4g right? Unless the new evo JUST runs LTE.

a leak is doubtful at this point....when is the last time the 3D saw a leak for any of its OTA's its gotten before hand?......
The new EVO will run LTE only and being a completely different chipset and hardware top to bottom will give the devs here very little help in anything for the 3D...

lol I'm still skeptical about it though. I hear the Nexus comes later this month or next month. Then you guys get a One X version. There's plenty of reason to hold off ICS for the 3D.

This thread was literally created to stir up a hornet's nest... Just saying.
Meh, I say the 3d is not going to get ICS OTA because Sprint hasn't even put out their ICS phones. Why would they OTA it when they need to push the new products? They are in fact a company in it for the money, OTA ICS would not make sense (har har) as far as a sales standpoint, why let the consumers have they new stuff for free when you want to push the latest and greatest phone you have to offer?
I could be terribly wrong as well, a leak sure why not but I have no faith in an OTA from Sprint. Hell today's event could be the release of the Kyocera Echo 2 now with dual cores!!!! (seriously that would suck though)

EVO 3D was a gimmick. lol.
I am an original EVO 4G user.
And, I have a rooted HTC Jetstream tablet (WHICH has a nonremoveable battery).
Point being, root doesn't depend on battery.
The issue with the battery is that If it gets stuck in a boot loop, devs are kinda stuck in powering it down and such.
Ammi rite?
Kickstand, microsd, lovely casing(opion), and sprint unlimited network. After all these +'s, people still complain about something. I think at this point, I am going to stay a loyal htc fanboy because 1.) I don't want to go back to apple(I like to have more than a screen full of icons on my phone) and 2.) Samsung's Touchwiz is a generic looking launcher, IMO. and 3.)Htc's native apps are functional for my technology needs.

Ugh I'm really torn now. I have no wimax where I live, and have awful 3g speeds for the past two years (literally slower than dial-up during the day). I was REALLY thinking of biting the bullet and switching to Verizon, but this phone is awesome. And at $199 it's a steal. However, according to the leaks, I won't get 4g in my area until at least 2013, really limiting what this phone is used for.
Jeez, enough new thread posts already. Let the moderators handle it rather then adding another post to a thread you already disagree with.

Awesome! I really hope that this phone gets as good of a following as the Evo OG
It would be amazing if it had the dev community that the OG Evo had, best dev's around!
I'm not sure what to expect with the development community for this device. I think I remember some posts of Myn saying how developers going for nonremoveable battery devices isn't going to happen.
Personally, I am happy with a rooted stock device.
If I got something along the lines of a synergy collaboration in terms of ICS on the EVO 4G LTE, that would be great.
Idk really what to hope for. Again, I am happy with just Rooted stock.
I hope Myn makes the transition over! I loved his works on the EVO 4G!
i decided to preorder the evo 4g lte...i've done plenty of dev'ing for samsung devices but this will be a first htc for me. i'm sure i'll get my hands dirty once i get it.

True, although my one concern would be if you get a different hardware version and they have some patch so we can't use the same method to root. I certainly hope that does not happen, but that is what I would fear if I was in your shoes. I heard 001 hardware versions are great to have for the exploitability, if I may.
Well I left the OG Evo community when I got my SGS2 E4GT and up until about 2 months ago there wasn't much DEV support I was so disappointed at first. I hope that the remaining Evo devs all come over for the 4G LTE, HTC devices usually get more devs involved here at XDA, thats where it all started.

You know, if HTC didn't make Sense so gorram pervasive, it probably wouldn't take them near as long to develop and finalize upgrades. Sense is dug in so friggin' deep that it must be a monumental task to even put out a small maintenance release like we just had, much less an upgrade to a new version of Android. I truly wonder how much blame rest on Sprint's shoulders. I've always assumed it was Sense to blame.
