[Q] [Resolved] Some apps display smaller after update to 2.3.4 - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After updating to [ROM] AT&T 4.5.91 ★ Gingerbread 2.3.4 ★ Beta #4, I have noticed that some of my apps have shrunk. Apps that were full screen are now surrounded by black bars on 3 sides. The top side is flush up against the notification bar.
I have tried uninstalling / reinstalling from the market, using TiBu restores and a data wipe.
I am assuming that it is how the apps were written and/or the price I pay for using a beta release, but thought I would ask and see if anyone else is having the issue after I didn't come up with anything from a search.
A couple of examples are:
Epicurious (free)
h ttps://market.android.com/details?id=com.epicurious&feature=search_result
Solitare (free)
h ttps://market.android.com/details?id=com.kmagic.solitaire&feature=search_result
SU File Manager & Terminal ($$$)
h ttps://market.android.com/details?id=com.protocol.x.su.fbs&feature=search_result
While I am not 100% positive that the others were ever full screen I know for a fact that the Solitare game was.

Download Spare Parts from the market and uncheck the Compatibility Mode option. Then reboot.

Sure enough that was it. Thanks!

Mod please remove. Fixed & Answered

I was just wondering if I can add some of the features like, the recent apps & quick settings in the notifications bar? I would also like the black dialer apk, the black market apk and the black mms apk.
I tried applying those mods but it froze at the bolt screen and my ui buttons were lit up, waited 15 min then did a batt pull. Gonna restore then had to re-flash.
I wouldn't also mind getting the visual voice mail to work. Now when it works I shouldn't have to pay verizon's fees right? Cause right now i have the option to use it but they charge me like $2.99 or something. I flashed via CWR and nothing?
Google Voice will do vvm. You need to provide more info. What ROM are you running?

My problem is trying to get froyo stuff to work on Gingerbread. I realize that the things I want are going to have to wait or do them myself.
I was trying to get bamf's remix extras in theme's section to work on his new GB rom.

How to remove at&t logo?

I just came across some great status bar add ons and now have to find a way to remove the at&t logo and/or the clock WITHOUT causing problems or having issues. I running the latest OTA 234 and am rooted. Is there a safe / easy way to do this?
Thanks for any assistance.

Are you talking about the very top line where the battery bar is on? if so I do not have the logo there it just says AT&T in letters

Yes, sorry, I am talking about the letters "AT&T". I am out of room so some
icons and messages do not appear unless i switch to landscape. If I could get rid of the AT&T (and also the clock if possible) I would have room for more inmportant items.
Its possible adw launcher from the market may do what you want
I don't think adw launcher can do it. Maybe ex version.
I voided my warranty.

looks like my process works for .84 and im sure that it will work the same for .85
i've also read that you may need to be on .84 to upgrade to .85
List of Changes:
1) Temple Run/Running Fred Touch Screen Issues Fixed
2) Icon fade on finger slide during unlock
3) First boot extreme slowdown fixed
4) Transitional window effects slowed down
5) ICS My Verizon bloat added among other VZW stuff
6) Facebook for Android is preloaded...
7) Contacts widget pulldown works like on GB but isn't as pretty, didn't in previous leak
8) More padding above dock in home
9) HDMI Connection option added to Display menu
10) Scrolling isn't as jerky
11) Glow effect on full scroll was resized and centered
12) Corrosion ringtone added, which is exactly the same as "DROID X2"
13) You can click on things in the Storage menu to go to their respective menus
14) Madden NFL added...
15) Camera tries harder in low-light situations
16) Camera startup is WAY faster, especially noticeable with Face Unlock
17) Voicemail icon color changed (?)
18) Keyboard is completely redone, looks a lot more like GB's Motorola Input now rather than AOSP - which means its huge.
19) Menu button popup animations are slowed
20) Text message notification icon's face is rotated
21) Texts are received WAAAAAY faster. I tested with a RAZR next to me and it literally came within 1 second every time.
22) I think something about the lapdock startup screen is different...
23) Notification light blinks green now for texts?
24) Keyboard pull-up and drop-down animations revamped
25) Facebook contact sync works
26) 3G is more stable in many cases
27) All notification icons are horizontally squashed without vertical compensation (?)
28) Cut The Rope bug fixed
29) Face unlock key button works before it's visible, so you can go to the password/pattern unlock before the camera loads.
30) The Apps button is now labelled in the dock - it previously was the only button without text.
31) The Disable shortcuts are gone for preinstalled apps when you drag them to the top of the screen out of the App Drawer. Shame, I loved that feature...
32) Polar Clock live wallpaper added.
33) The app that bugs you when you install Flash Player is gone.
34) You can't freeze NFL Mobile anymore.
35) Favorites replaces the Phonebook section of the dialer
That's everything so far from the last leak that I've noticed...

Do you need root??
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA
Yes, you need root because the initial installation requires ROM Manager and the files to be moved to the /cache/ folder.
HOWEVER. If you're rooted when you install the update, you won't be rooted afterwards unless you go out of your way to restore it. So it's no big deal, really.

Root on .173, update the SU binary, then download Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to backup the root. Then update, and use Voodoo to restore root.
Then after updating to ICS, use Voodoo one last time to restore root.

Dolphin Browser goes crazy!

Has anyone else had any issues with Dolphin? I tried using it to fill out my Sony registration and it absolutely went haywire.
It started out freezing and then it would unfreeze and move very glitchily for 5 seconds. Then finally the screen would go completely haywire and show nothing but white and light gray lines. It only affected the app itself, the actual nav bar was fine just the app screen was wonky as hell.
Has anyone else experienced this? I have tried clearing all app data, not that there was any cause that was the first time I opened it, and I uninstalled and reinstalled it. Nothing I did made it work.

I got 8.5.1 version only because I want to have flash and mine crashes like crazy but I believe it is totally Dolphin's fault. It crashes on my Droid RAZR HD as well... I've heard people had more luck with Firefox, which I had no time to play with yet so can't tell you. The solution to it - get something that will work for you. There are plenty browsers to choose from.

Adobe Flash Player was re-enabled in Dolphin Browser version 10.0.0, so I recommend you update. After updating, go into Dolphin's Settings > Web Content and set Flash Player to "Always On" (my preference) or "On Demand". I also recommend you have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (currently 11.1.115.69) installed. You can download it from Adobe's Archived Flash Player Versions web page. Search for the list titled "Flash Player for Android 4.0 archives" to find and download it to your device and install it. You can ignore that it says "for Android 4.0", it will also run on Android 4.1.x. You can test that Flash Player is working in Dolphin by going to Adobe's Find Version web page.
I have both Dolphin and Dolphin Beta in latest version, it is the best browser that I can use on my TXZ/XZ. I like mozilla but I can't use FF or FF Beta on my devices, always crash and can't load a page, it's stuck loading and nothing happens!
I believe the v.10 looks nice but... I still prefer to use 8.5.1... more stable than 10 to me. At least when watching South Park during commercials it freezes. V10 is not a good product.

check out Mikan Broswer from Cythia Project.
a browser that allow you to do a lot of customization.
i tried stock broswer, chrome, dolphin, dolphin HD, firefox, and many other browser and Mikan gives me the best user experience.
although you might need to setup all the short-cuts and buttons yourself in the beginning.
some features i liked (needed).
1. open offline "html" files
2. decided URL bar to shown at top or bottom, and add buttons on this bar
3. decided tab bar to shown at top or bottom, and add buttons on this bar
4. set font size of the browser UI, make it finger friendly, or even big thumb friendly
5. open URL directly using quick control.
6. add short-cut to other apps in browser (save click needed to move from browser-home-apps)
7. change web-site text size on the go.
8. invert rending - (avoiding the glare of a while background)
let me know your comment if you decided to try this out.

I'm with you there with 8.5.1 looking better, it also didn't have a damn Hot Apps icon.
Either way I tried 10.0.0, 10.0.1, and 8.5.1 and they all acted the same way. I really hate this. Dolphin is my preferred browser mainly because of how the tabs work, it has added Flash back, there are plugins (although I would like a browser with quite a few more plugins), the speed dial (because the icons are small, those big ass shortcut like FF has icons drive me insane), being able to have categories in Bookmarks, and a few other odds and ends. I haven't found one that really fits yet, I can do without plugins but the others are a must have for me.

[APP][FIX]Smear Fix V1.4 root NOT required

What is the smearing issue?
Our lovely SGS4 Super AMOLED screens are the first kind to completely turn off pixels when true black is showing...
Previous generation AMOLED screens used on the SGS1,2 & 3 devices kept power to black pixels which could be seen in a very dark room as a faint glow on areas of screen showing black.
So we now have true black screens with switched off pixels which is a GOOD thing... Am I right?
Well in theory yes but you have probably noticed a fairly annoying flaw when this is put into practice. The pixels take time to turn back on so whenever a grey or dark object moves across the screen against a black background the image will "Smear" due to this pixel switch-on delay.
How does this app fix this?
It's very simple and not a true fix. The app creates a nearly transparent white overlay covering the screen. This will make blacks a very dark grey which you will find hard to notice but it is enough to prevent pixels from switching off since true black is eliminated.
Use the Smear Fix app to launch the overlay and the Kill Smear Fix app to remove it. Simple!
Quick Guide
#1 install the "Kill smear fix app first
#2 install the "Smear Fix V1.4 app
#3 When you launch the app there is NO ui interfaace. The app with create a nearly invisible overlay which will cover the entire screen.
#4 The app WILL auto start on boot UNLESS you have killed it previously using the Kill app.
#4 The Kill App will remove the overlay AND prevent the main app restating on reboot. The control file for this is "smearfix" stored at the root of your SD memory.
IMPORTANT: This app has just one known issue/bug/quirk which is the same you will find for ALL overlay/screen filter type apps so I can't fix it.
When the app is running you WILL NOT be able to install any apps manually. The install button just won't respond. You will have to use the kill app to undo the fix to remedy this.
ROOT NOT REQUIRED!!
Install the Kill App BEFORE you install the main overlay app
V1.2>>> Kill app now properly kills the main app and service.
V1.3>>> Fixed landscape overlay
V1.4>>> Made overlay 1080x1920 properly this time. USES LESS RESOURCES TO RUN!!

Holy mother of God it actually works perfectly.
This is cool and all, but one major draw back is that, when this app is running, you are not able to touch the INSTALL button when say restoring an app via titanium.
I have this same problem with the app called Screen Adjuster (which basically does the same thing, just by slightly changing the RGB values to make the smearing go away). The plus side to that app is it has a toggle to turn it off quickly.
Seems to be working, thanks for the fix!
