Hi everyone,
I'm trying to figure out how to save my Facebook contacts under my Gmail account so that they get synced to my Gmail.
For example, my cousin is a friend of mine on Facebook, although I do not have a contact for him in my Gmail account. Therefore, even when I sync my phone, he does not show up in my Gmail.
If I got to People-->Menu-->Import/Export on my phone, then select Export to SD card, my only options for exporting are Google, SIM, and Phone; hence no Facebook. Therefore, I don't know how to export my facebook contacts and then import them into my Google account.
Anybody know what the best way is to accomplish this? Thanks!
Last I looked, Facebook didn't allow you to export your "friends" info like phone number or email address.. so there is no "easy" way to import into Gmail/google contacts.
There were some tools available, and I found a tutorial that showed how to export from Facebook to yahoo mail contacts, then export from yahoo mail's contacts to a .CSV file which could be imported into Gmail.. Well, I could never get it to work Scratch that.. I just tried again, by going to Yahoo.com, and signing in using the "sign in with Facebook" link... then upgrading to Yahoo Mail... it DID import my 328 friends from FB into Yahoo's contacts, but only their name and primary email address... no phone, secondary email or other info.
Manually making Gmail/google contacts with the info from your FB Friends is the only sure fire way that I've found.

Thanks for the help, but that's what I was afraid you were going to say. It's a shame that you can't simply convert Facebook contacts into Google contacts on your phone so that they get synced to your Google account.

The majority of my contacts are phone contacts, is there anyway I can convert them to Google contacts so they sync with Google?
I had this dilemma yesterday. I'm hope you have Outlook. what you can do is sync you contacts with the HTC sync with outlook. then save your contacts by exporting them to CSV file. You can then import this phone to your web gmail account. Delete all your phone contacts and then sync your Google contacts by going to settings > data sync > Google > menu > sync now. I hope this helps
Damn, I don't have Outlook, there must be another way surely...
The only other way is to save to SIM and then import it from the SIM card. Only thing bad about that is that any facebook link will be lost mate.
Use ExportContacts, edit (if needed) the *.csv file to fit Google's importing rules (check this topic for reference), import the file to Google Contacts via PC and synchronize.
Or search for ContactSync in the market that will convert your phone contacts to Google ones. but try this if the above method does not work.

I would trully NOT recommend that. I've tried it and as it may have seen, all the contacts have been converted do "Google" type, but non of them actually synced with Google Contacts. At least that's what happened on my Hero.

I got the same results. They tried to sync, but I got a force close-msg. Had to delete all the changed contacts for it to work again
Question: How do you actually know which contacts are Google ones and which are not. In my virtually all my contacts are Google ones but there are the odd ones that are phone contacts and I'm trying to find them so I can convert them.
when you look in people they say what they are to the right of the name......
use 'Export Contacts" (contacts, contacts tab, menu, more, import/export) to send the file to your sd card as a vcf file. then go back to the same place and import them into a google account instead of phone.
What i did is, i exported my contacts on Outlook, and then went my google page > contacts > Import contacts.
I imported the file, and deleted all my contacts on phone.
Now im syncing my google contacts to phone
Does anyone know how to get the Contacts listed by Lastname, Firstname?

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, that isn't an option on this phone. I was trying to figure out a way, too.
I'm finding this very troublesome as well; I don't know the first names of half my contacts..
I'd really like to be able to sort "(company) last, first" again. Someone else will probably provide a fix before I learn to program on the Android platform.

The developer from Enhanced Mail (which I use) is thinking about tackling Contacts as well as email. He has done a great job making Exchange and IMAP and POP mail better. He says contacts are harder though.
It all makes me miss HTC Sense.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
I started on this last night. Not sure when I can have an alpha ready, i'll aim for the weekend. there's certainly quite a bit around the contact api
I'd love some choice as to which groups display too, all contacts vs unassigned (group) contacts vs this group/several groups...
Why can't Google just support the Display As field? And proper syncing with desktop Outlook!
import/export google contacts.
Export ur contacts from gmail, to file, then delete gmail contacts on google. Then Import file to gmail. When i did this for uploading contacts to gmail it sitch all "VIEW AS" to last, first

Thanks for the suggestion. However, I won't be trying it. None of my contacts are in gmail. They're all in my Exchange. For my job I have right at 1000 contacts. The contacts are correct. Moto's Corporate Mail doesn't display them correctly.
It's such a shame Motorola can't get it together as well as HTC.
I am getting a New Samsung Galxy S-2 and would like to know how to transfer or restore my contacts, here's the Glitch.
I have a Atrix, and the Gmail Account is Different than the Gmail Account Im planning to use on the SGS-2.
How do I get the 465 contacts from one Google account to another?
Thank you In advance
Larry
go to contacts on the atrix
menu, and find the import/export
export to sd card
take the .vcf that it creates, and import it in your new phone. dont know of any way to take it from one gmail account to another.
i have to ask WHY you want to do it this way though?
why are you using a different gmail account?
My Primary email is a roadrunner account, I did something stupid I included "Atrix" in my gmail name.
I didnt get the Samsung yet, so I was try to figure out how to synch or get the contacts over to the new email
PirateGhost! you did it!
Hey thank you, you did it, you made me think..... I exported the entire 465 contacts to a Google File like you said, but I did it on My PC! and to my Desktop. I then Logged into the new Gmail Account Im going to use for the Galaxy S-2, and Imported them. Blink their all their.
Now when I log into the gmail account (New One) on the SGS-2, the Contacts will automatically show up on the phone????

Hi,
Before you continue reading, this is not a question about moving contacts from one android device to another, or from an iPhone to an android (or viceversa)!!
This is my scenario: I've got my android tablet (the asus transformer) and I have 3 accounts set up there, 2 are gmail accounts (say, account A and account B) and a third corporate account (exchange activesync, call it account C)
I used account B when I was in my last job and have a lot of business contacts there. What I want to do is to have a simple way of copying some of these business contacts over to the exchange account (account C). I also would like to copy a couple from account A (personal stuff) into account C.
Any ideas? Thanks
Have you tried to export the contacts you want from the web interface of gmail?
You can select the contacts you want and export them in CSV for outlook or in vcard. I'm not familiar with Exchange but it must have some import function in a desktop client or web interface, at least of vcard.

You know, that is exactly what I don't want to end up doing because it's a waste of time.
Fortunately I found an app in the market named Contacts Copy which did exactly what I wanted to do! The interface is a bit clunky but it does the job.
Sorry for reanimation of an old thread!
But I'm facing the same problem! Is there any progress?
I was hoping, newer android versions would implement such a (simple?) function - moving a contact from one account to another doesn't seem to be so sophisticated if one has a whole synchronisation framework at hand!
Is there any contact manager out there, providing such functionality?
Thanks!
Same problem here...
I'm struggling with the same thing - I tried Contacts Copy but it just seemed to do import and export and you needed to enter a phone number. Not sure why it needs my phone number so I didn't really trust it. Anyway, if someone has had some luck I'd appreciate the help.
Just to reiterate the issue, I have an Exchange work account (a) and a gmail account (b) on my phone. I can access my works contacts database from my phone and save contacts, but they're linked to the Exchange account. I want to be able to get them from (a) to (b) simply on my phone, rather than needing to export a CSV from Outlook and upload to Gmail.

It does it !!
Only one thing is missing - search.
Also it joins original contact to copy in another account and can update existing.
Was sending contacts to myself by SMS/e-mail before.
This may be old hat. I was on my Gmail account on my PC today. I was messing w the settings and it seems you can import your yahoo.mail to Gmail for free now. I have been testing this and have been getting my yahoo mail pushed instantly to my Gmail acct. On my phone. I know when I first got my phone I was unable to do this unless you had a premium yahoo acct. Just a heads up to my fellow dx2 peeps.
Nice Find
I had not noticed that. I just went to Gmail > Mail Settings > Accounts and Import > Import mail and contacts. This is supposed to work with Yahoo!, Hotmail, AOL, or other webmail or POP3 accounts. This looks very useful. Thanks for pointing it out. I just listed the above to clarify for those who would not know here to look. Enjoy.
I went into my Yahoo settings and changed my account to Yahoo Asia (or something like that) and from there I forwarded all my Yahoo to my Gmail. I have been doing this for quite sometime now... no way I was going to pay $20 to forward email.
