Hey guys, I ordered my Atrix 4G and I have a few questions before I get it. I looked through some of the threads and I'm a little confused.
1) I know this phone has motoblur. Are there any ROMs which don't have motoblur preinstalled?
2) Does "unlocking" on this phone mean the unlock of bootloaders, or a carrier unlock?
3) Where are the root procedures for this phone? I didn't see any -_-
4) Any tips on using this phone?

I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S 4G so this is a whole new game for me.
As far as Roms without MotoBlur, I'm not really aware of any. Motoblur is not as bad IMO as what some folks think. I use it and it's fine with me. However, if you put the new Gingerbread software on it it actually gives you an option to skip the Motoblur activation if you don't want to use it. Yes, there are some custom ROMs that are starting to become available. There are also psuedoroms for the phones that do not have the unlocked bootloader. ( I highly recommend KennethPenn's GingerBlur if you don't want to unlock the bootloader. Search for it in the developer's section of the forum.) Yes, you can now unlock the bootloader on the Atrix. As far as rooting the device, it's very easy to do. You will find that the XDA forum has much better and more in depth answers than what I can give you. My biggest advice to you regarding this forum is USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!!! I promise you, any possible question you could ever have about this device is answered on this forum. I recently got a HTC HD2 as a gift from a friend. I am loving this phone - such a huge screen (I used iPhone 4 recently and it seemed so small then), amazing touch sense and overall experience.
I have been browsing the XDA forums for quite some time. I have few issues/queries that I want to get cleared up:
1. My HTC is locked to T-mobile, USA and I am in Canada. I have been unsuccessful in getting it unlocked. I contacted couple of shops who claimed to unlock it through the code but cudn't get the code. Anybody has any idea why is it hard to get HTC HD2 unlock code? I read somewhere that my IMEI number belongs to the new T-mobile series. Cud that be a problem? What do you guys suggest on getting my phone unlocked? One of the shops told me that they might have to flash the ROM but I don't know what that means....which brings to us to my next question...
2. What does "Flashing the ROM" means? It is about rewiring the ROM? I heard there are custom ROMs. What are custom ROMs? I need to figure out this ROM stuff. I know what is a ROM....I just want to know how this thing and different jargons work wrt Mobile phones.
3. Is there is any benefit of running Andriod (Froyo) on my mobile? I would love to have Andriod since WinMo has forced me to reset the phone more than I have resetted my previous smartphones per year. But, I think Andriod is still in development mode. What are your views on this issue?

Yes, but keep trying different sites, , some are charging more for phones on the newer list,

LMAO! commical how uninformed supposed phone technicians are, , ,no, flashing will have no effect at all on sim lock.
but I don't know what that means....which brings to us to my next question...

think of the windows cd rom, , you put it into a blank computer, and it installs itself, , well a rom is kinda like that. A big file that, when you hard reset (or immediately after a flash) installs itself, complete with all included software, onto your phone. If you flash a new rom, its like using a different windows cd. 'chefs' can 'cook' roms, , get rid of operator added rubbish, add tweaks and programs, etc etc.

I just buy a Atrix, but i am little disappointed.
This damn Moto Blur avoid me to change simple thing like just sync some groups of my gmail, not all contacts.
My question is:
Is it possible to root this device, and install a new and "pure" version of Android 2.2.2 (or 2.3.3)?
If yes, what is the good and the bad points?
What can i miss?
I really want to make my device free of this damn
Not unless you're sitting on a way to unlock the bootloader that none of us know about. Otherwise the answer is the same as every other thread that asks this question... Without an unlocked bootloader we can't flash full roms
Also might have helped to search and/or read before posting. Answers to all your questions are in the forums multiple times!

If there is one good way that is reliable and doesn't screw up one thing or another than I have not seen it.
Example......Superoneclick....works on one phone but not the next....Roms....need more fixes to get to work than Microsoft.....
Tell me is there a proven way to unlock the bootloader, Root the phone and get Gingerbread to work fully ?
I may be new to this site and believe me I would love to have a open phone....But I have other things to do than F around trying to get a already KickAss phone to work.....Just saying....

There are lots of tutorials in the Development forum on how to do this.
I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT preinstall method is the one IS SAFE and FUNCTIONAL

Almost everything is in the sticky thread of clown.. With faqs guides etc..
Unlock your bootloader depending what atrix you have(att or international), then install the tenfars port of CWM4, and then you can root using the CWM root method..

To build on your Microsoft comment...............Some software is not compatible with all versions of Windows. The Atrix came out with Windows 95, has made it to XP, and with GB will be Windows 7. If you are not happy with the devs work, what they have done for everyone, and can't filter through the threads to get what you want, maybe you should get an iPhone and stick Cydia on it!......Or get a Windows phone because you won't have to "fix" anything on it!
If you want help, then you have started out the wrong way. Your post needs to be objective, and not flaming all the work others have done because you can't implement any of it, and are confused.
Root, ROM's, etc., do not need a bunch of fixes............you just have to READ so you know which ones work together for what you want. If you had actually taken the time, you would know that the bootloader has been unlocked, root is working, and GB is awesome. You just have to check the instructions for what you want on your Atrix, whether it be AT&T, Orange, Bell, etc.
Personally, I am on an AT&T Atrix 4G with unlocked bootloader, rooted, with GB 4.5.91, and have absolutely no complaints ot problems!
Since you don't want to F around, watch that door................it's heavy and swings closed fast.........wouldn't want it to hit you between the buttocks on the way out!

Ok, I currently have the atrix 4g and I'm looking to root it and unlock the bootloader. I have read the guides on the forums here and I think I have an understanding of what to do. I just have a few questions and I figured this was a good section to ask in. Hopefully its not the wrong section, I'm new. Lol
I saw that there was an automatic tool for 2.3.4/4.5.91 but I have 2.3.6/4.5.141 and there was some reports of it working with that version. One of my questions is should I attempt to use that tool considering i'm a noob?
Also regarding roms I'm about lost. I looked through the section and I have no idea which roms are good and which ones are bad. I don't need anything crazy or fancy but a rom which increases performance and battery life couldn't hurt. Lol
And I see things about radio's, pudding files, etc. I don't need to get involved in those do I?

The first question i can't answer since I have an int phone so...
A good rom that is followed is neutrino, and it's based on cm7. Another one is the one made by topogigi, but I didn't try it yet. There are then one with cm7/miui. If u want a blurbased, u should go on nottachtrix rom. On cm9 there are tons of ports , based on jokersax builds. For the radios you don't need them, at least if u don't like what u already have.

You need "pudding" to unlock the bootloader.
Best bet go to YouTube and search "Atrix unlock bootloader" ETC... there a couple step-by-step videos there and they even have all the files you need to use in the video's description...

I, like so many others am trying to decide between the Samsung Galaxy S3 & the HTC Evo 4G LTE. One thing that I definitely want is to be able to root and flash ROMS on whichever phone I get. I know that root has been achieved on both phones but I'd like thoughts on developer support between the two, and which one (or both) can be set back to an original state where it's not known it was rooted for warranty purposes. I know HTC lets you unlock the bootloader but unless there's a workaround it'll say relocked on the bootloader allowing anyone savvy enough to check that it's been rooted. Wondering if current root versions are S-on, S-off or either with the owner choosing. Or perhaps S-off is a must in order to truly relock the bootloader so it says locked instead of relocked. I also read in my research that you can trip a counter on the S3 the counts how many ROMS have been flashed... Although I also read it's possible to root without tripping the counter but if anything goes wrong, you can't reset the counter.
Now, it seems like the S3 would have the most dev support since it's been released globally but I'm assuming that the ROMS developed for the global quad core version won't be compatible with the dual core US version. Is this correct? Is there Evo dev community really committed so that I could expect similar work being done for both phones?
Lastly, I'm assuming that the S3 will have more accessories available for it given its release on 5 US carriers without any changes in the phone... Seems like a first for any phone but the iphone. Do you agree with this or do you expect lots of accessories and aftermarket items available for the Evo LTE as well.
I know that there's a lot of questions in this but with the phones being so similar, this may be the area that differentiates them. And I know that I definitely want to root the phone... No question on that.
