Often when I'm taking a photo, it will freeze during the review - it won't switch back to the live view, and all I can do is hit the home button and use the task manager to kill the camera. This happens in 2D mode mostly. I am using the same Class 4 16 GB card I used in my OG Evo, and never had a problem.
I have seen others have this problem with faster cards and with the stock card, so I think it is a software or hardware issue with the phone rather than the card.
I'm posting this poll to find out how widespread the issue is. Thanks for your participation!
I've had a few screen freezes during camera use, I would hit the home button to clear it. The photo is not lost, but definitely annoying behavior to say the least.

Good Evening....
Yes my camera was freezing after taking pictures or making videos. I then decided to upgrade to a class 6 sd card and those issues went away. I am now running a 16GB microsd class6 and its sped up all of my data access on my phone. Just thought id share, its not a problem with the phone but more of an issue with the slow included sd card.

Not yet for me, but I do get some weird flickering from the back light when the brightness goes up.
Happened to both my original 3D and its replacement.
Mine freezes every once in a while either before or after shots.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
Mine constantly freezes when taking any pics 2d and 3d! It pisses me off and I hate that I can't reliably capture pics when I want to. I still have 17 days to return it though so I'm deciding whether to try a replacement or just return the 3D all together. I also had an orange line going across my home clock widget and some icons don't display correctly in a custom folder that I put on one of my screens. The camera issue irks me the most though.
Mine has never frozen. And Ive took several pics at night and I have not had the green tint. In 3d of my nieces and in 2d of the family. Has worked normal for me.
Locked & Loaded
Ok, I pulled the trigger on a Class 10 card. It got fairly good reviews on Amazon (at least the 16 GB version I got did, it looks like the 32 GB has some issues):
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004H8FTCK/ref=ox_ya_os_product
I'll do some direct comparisons and see if this solves the problem. If so, shame on HTC for not supplying fast enough cards with their phone (even though I'm not using it myself, others have had it fail the same way).
For the record, my current 16 GB card writes at 5.8 MB/s and reads at 17.8 MB/s according to SD Tools (which honestly should be fast enough to get a 5 MP picture on the card).
my 3d has given me no problems at all, it has been flawless

Have any of you tried shutting off the GeoTagging in the camera settings (and reboot) and still had it lock up?

I'm on my second one in less than a week. First one died randomly rebooting about every 5 minutes. Now my new one I just got yesterday just randomly rebooted.
When I took it back, the rep said it just needed hard reset, so she did it, then it rebooted in her hand! It was classic.
Terrible track record so far!
Outta the box, meh.
4 hours outta the box with some tweaking (root, freeze bloat, new launcher, etc) Best phone I've ever had.
Only downside is the locked bootloader which means no AOSP ROMS. But I think I can live with that.
Also MANY people have whined and cried about the penTile display, in my opinion the screen is beautiful. Some apps aren't optimized for the new higher resolution yet so they look a little "off" but it's no big deal. No fault of the phone but of app designers. It should get fixed in due course.
Sent from my DROID X2
Love it so far
I upgraded from the original droid running cyanogen 7 and I love the X2 so far. I installed laucherpro right away and rooted to install wired and wireless tether and freeze some of the bloatware that came with it.
I had a couple random reboots at first but I have not had one for a couple weeks now.
I was a little worried about the battery life at first but after a few days my battery must have finally been broken in and Im pleasantly surprised with the battery life.
No matter what you read elsewhere the screen is AMAZING... you can see it outside while its bright on the lowest setting, you bump it up to the highest and you can see it perfectly in direct sunlight.
People will also bash how much ram this has. Lots of people think that only having 512mb is a horrible thing. But if you actually do some research and learn about how android uses ram you'll realize that extra ram does no good. Essentially if its not being used its being wasted. I run a widget that I can click to see how much ram is left and its usually between 50 and 100. My friend has an atrix and his is usually around 400... which proves that hes not using the extra 512 he has available. So maybe down the road there will be some apps or a new version of android that will need 1gb or ram but i highly doubt it will be before Im up for another upgrade.
Rooting is a must
This was my upgrade from the Droid Incredible also rooted using Sky-Raider, and Cyanogen(mod) 7.0.3. The qHD and the dual core processor sold me on the phone.
After unboxing the I was struck by the brilliance and clarity of the screen and the phone was quite responsive at times. Easily viewable in direct sunlight (even when dimmed)but the phone was hanging when navigating to the home screen and the batter life was less than a day with light moderate use.
I rooted the phone using GingerBreak and after removing Bloatware, it is the best phone that I have seen for the price $199.99 with upgr.
The phone is worth the money, brilliant screen, responsive, and I am satisfied with the performance for now until there is a stable rom for it. Just ran benchmark with Quadrant Standard at 2128!
Read the engadget review posted 6-5-2011.
I really appreciate the opinions everyone. It seems like a great phone, but I think I'm getting her the Droid 3 simply because she's coming from the env touch (assbag of a phone btw) and would appreciate the physical keyboard. Thanks again.

You folks had better luck than me. First the good points that made me want to keep it.
Build
Display
Battery life
Call quality
Speed for game emulators
Radio reception
Easy to root
Form factor suits one hand operation better than other 4.3"
Tegra 2 has very good audio quality
Why I returned it.
Where is the memory? I appreciate that 108mb of the 512mb ram appears to be allocated to the GPU, but if you add up the OS, Home UI, OS tasks, opened user apps and free ram, there is still about 160mb missing out of 404mb. You can apply a memory script to help out, but the memory slowly leaks away, even with the script. The DX2 starts to lag.
MP3 pops and clicks. This is probably due to the low operational ram mentioned above, but even when not multitasking, there are random pops and clicks and gets much worse if multitasking.
Flash can spike the device temps past 115 degrees. Flash does not appear to get on with the DX2 firmware. Heat spikes and the battery is drained like the DX2 is on an LTE radio.
Random reboots. It seems to mainly happen during web browsing, Flash playback and playing video files. While I was debating on keeping it or not (due to the good things mentioned at top) and rationalizing that the issues would be fixed, my DX2 rebooted while updating a few market apps. I considered that a sign to return it.
Seems better to return it and see if they fix the problems, rather than get stuck with the DX2, IF the problems are not fixed.
IF they fix the issues, I will buy the DX2 again, or wait for the Bionic. I am more likely to get the DX2 again, since I doubt a 4.5" qHD LCD display, dual core and LTE will have very good battery life.
The DX2 would rock REAL hard if the issues are fixed. I have a gTablet with same chipset, 512mb ram and Froyo and it does not have the issues noted.
added:
I miss the DX2, mainly due to the sweet display Back to my Incredible for now
For my part, I've seemingly resolved the quirky behaviour by enabling the performance profile. The "medium" setting would cause reboots and strange laggy app issues. I'm still likely to get the Bionic later as well, and trade this one in for credit. I tend to swap between my upgrade, and my wife's line upgrade.

If you don't need 4G LTE or a front-facing camera, it's a great purchase on Verizon. First dual-core phone for them! More power means longer shelf-life for keeping up with demanding apps/games. Large qHD res screen, Tegra 2 processor, solid build quality and pretty decent camera. Some people don't like the Blur UI, but it's not as bad as it used to be. You can always replace with a third party launcher too.
If this phone didn't look exactly like the original Droid X, people would probably be talking about it more. I'm especially enjoying the tegra 2 gaming - Riptide Gp (link)
Mine is working alright for me, I can attest the Motorola bloatware does slow down the phone quite a bit.
I also have Quadrant only reading "1 Core" so I don't know if Quadrant needs to be updated or the rumors are true that the CPU is limited till we get the Ginger from Motorola.
As far as hardware goes, I doubt the 512mb of RAM will make a difference once we start using custom ROMs and remove quite a bit of the bloat. The Tegra 2 seems to make everything really snappy, the battery is better than my Droid 2, I do miss the keyboard though, so your wife may really really like the keyboard or hate it. I am a really really really big fan of the keyboard phones, but my phone died and they offered to let me upgrade early so I went with a Tegra 2.
Although with all the Motorola software / Verizon software etc. It runs pretty sluggish at times and the significant other's Captivate will run circles around my phone despite being just the Galaxy S internals. She likes to rub that in.
I just smile and wait till I end up running Liberty or MIUI on my phone so I can destroy her smug-ness.
I'm coming from a BB Storm and am super impressed by the DX2...all of the reasons I told myself I DIDN'T need an android phone are the reasons I am using this sucker so often. Love the apps. Here are some of my concerns:
HEAT - The plate below the battery cover, where the speaker is becomes too hot to touch at some points. After reading some of the forums it seems that this will occur more if I am watching flash or doing some major downloading. Three weeks in, it seems to be managed better as I am using Advance App Killer whenever I use the phone to kill process that start when I am doing nothing more than texting.
BATTERY LIFE - At first I was getting about 3-4 hours with moderate to heavy use. As another poster stated above, the battery seems to have broken in a bit, though it seems I will always need to pack a charger if I will be out for more than five or six hours.
MP4 PLAYBACK - I have tried to put 1-2gig mp4's on the SD card in a folder created called "_movies", but the X2 seems to struggle playing these files. On videos I have made using the X2, playback is not a problem. Error message is "File cannot be displayed or played". Annoying.
DISAPPEARING / GHOSTING APPS: Similarly, I have dropped adk files into a folder created called "apps" on the SD card (or sdcard-ext as IDed in file search). I have used my laptop in two ways to write the files: 1) with X2 tethered via USB using Windows 7 to copy/paste files on the SD and 2) removed the SD from X2 and plugged mini-SD into adapter to write files directly to SD.
UNIQUE NOTIFICATION: My BB had the ability to assign separate ringtones to different email accounts...I'm sure that I can do this with an app, but it seems so much easier in the BB settings menu thand the android.
So in researching these issues it seems all paths lead back to one thing: Rooting the phone. I have gingerbreak and am ready to do this, but am reluctant to do it knowing I have about 28 hours setting this phone up custom and I know I will have to start from scratch on that customization. Can anyone confirm that post-root I will still be utilizing the MOTOBLUR? I read a lot about people who hate it, but I like the 7 screens and widgets.
Just my 2 cents on the device. Overall, very happy. I'm sure I'll be extremely happy post-root as I think I am reading that rooting the device will solve a lot of the file and OS issues listed above.
Rock on, great forum. FIRST POST. android noob.
Like it so far , pretty much as good as the X1. The screen looks great , they really improved the visibility in sunlight.
Otherwise I do have a few of the common issues like music skip, slow screen turn on, and random reboots. I figure they will get sorted when I can get a better rom installed.
I'm liking the X2 just fine. I upgraded from the Incredible and I'm glad I didn't go for the DI2. Dual Core...hell yea! Beautiful 4.3" display...hell yea! My guess is that things will get better with easy rooting and Gingerbread. Besides, I didn't really like my DI until I started using customs ROMs and cleaned out the bloatware.
I love it and dont need 4g and wont get it here for years
If your not in 4g area and want a phone better than all the 4g phones get this one. i love this phone i had thunderbolt for a bit but it sucked it lagged like a Mother Trucker. I hate that the bootloader is locked cuz i love stock roms but o well ill live i have launcher pro plus running on mine with it rooted and ALOT of stuff FROZEN it makes it way faster and runs really smooth. i have heard alot of ppl complain about how much launcher pro sucks on this device but it think it works great i may have it have to reload widgets and such 1 out of a 100 times win i hit the home button but prob more like 1 out of 250. also i have used golauncher but i had a few problems with it stock blur actually works decent to but i dont like the look of it and i love 3d app drawer. i cant say ull love the phone but i know i do its by far best phone on verizon. Now if i could get a nexus on verizon id b the happiest man alive but o well i cant so ill have to live with my dx2 until they get a nexus or until another carrier can get service in southern il.
I went and tried the 3d again for 30 min yesterday. What is interesting is that on WIFI, the 4G loaded web pages faster than the 3d EVERY TIME. I loaded probably 10 pages at the same exact time on both. The 4G always won. Anyone else try this? Was it a fluke?
Huh?
Edit:
Oh wow I get it now... Your talking about the two different phones... Lol

I can agree, seems like 4g loads web pages faster. At home on wifi im getting 21 down and 4 up pretty fast .. on 4g im getting around 7 to 9 and less then 1 up however 4g does load web pages faster on my 3d . Im not sure why but i do notice faster loading on 4g .
Both phones were on the same fast WIFI network.
This happened in two different locations with two different 4G and 3D phones by the way...
Someone else should try this and get back to us.
Also, what is this "best" wifi setting you speak of?
Go to WiFi set up. Hit menu then advanced. Then best WiFi ( says it will consume more power)

See if that helps
Edit. You beat me by a hair. Sorry
...adjusting to life without the trackball
Though it seems counterintuitive I think the fact that the 3D has more screen real estate to fill may come into play here.
I have both phones and have also noticed the same thing. Perhaps they have a different definition of a 'fully loaded' web page to compensate for that, or maybe it's the fact that they don't compensate for that.
I can't say that it has impeded my enjoyment of the 3D...that crappy aspect ratio and weaker 3G radio have done that all by themselves, and that's to say nothing of the status of the bootloader and sense.
daneurysm, since you have both phones there, have you tried with both on the "best" setting?
p.s. I also like the aspect ratio of the OG's screen better. Longer and more narrow does me little good...I do not watch movies on my phone.
Which is better for performance.......wifi on the phone or a downloaded app in the market for wifi like Barnacel???
Nexus S is faster over WIFI
All I know is I have the Nexus right here - there is no "best" setting on it and it is faster than either of the Evos on WIFI.

I'm counting on radio updates to help with this (like it did the 4G...many times)
Yea if on WiFi you need to take the e3d off power save in WiFi settings..I believe that will be the difference here...also like Rocky said it will improve once they work out the bugs
I just watched several videos on youtube comparing the two, and the 3D was faster every time.

30test site download I did (on 3G) was identical to this.
Hey firmbiz...you mean 'best WIFi' setting right?...there's no power save setting in WiFi setting that I see...
Can anyone with the 3d please do me a favor and go to settings and SD card and storage , tell me how much in storage is out the box, I know they say 4gb but is no the same after all the bloatwarr , I have a TB and is supposed to have 8gb internal but it only has 2.5 gb available
And if anyone with the og EVO can tell me what you think about the camera ? Does it have better sensor so takes more refine pictures or the same ?

Personally, I think the pictures are a little sharper on the E3D. Of course it depends on lighting, settings, etc. I had the OG EVO from day one and now this one. It's worth every penny. The memory issue is still a little confusing though. It says 4gb and some is uses for the system and there is about 1GB for apps. Not sure what the rest is used for since everything like pics and music go to my 32GB sdcard. Not sure but don't think it really matters for me. Get it and love it. Don't second guess yourself.

Well I've been looking at the evo 3d for a while and I've just ordered one off Amazon UK to use on my three UK account.
It is due to arrive on Tuesday can't wait.
I have a couple of questions if you can help
The 3d cameras is it easy just to point and click or do you need to take it at a certain angle ?
If I want to use 3d films which I own which is the best way to convert for the ego ?
I use to have the sensation (I change my phones like my socks as I've not found the perfect phone yet but have high hopes about the 3d) the sensation had battery problems and awful lag has this been sorted with the 3d ? You tube videos show the evo being very smooth but is it ?
How good is the camera the s2 has a perfect camera but there are also loads of negatives
Lastly and this IM sure wont be clear cut will I regret moving from s2 to there evo 3d ?
Thanks in advance

3D is easy to use, must shoot landscape.
Handbrake works quite well for conversion, if you want to see a movie I did with handbrake, hit me up on IRC.
Most of the ROMs have been through several revisions, I would say lag and battery are not issues at this point.
Well no camera is perfect, there have been quite a few MODs done to the E3D camera by myself and several others. The front facing camera can do 2MP now.
And switching phones... Well if you don't like regular updates, Samsung is your best best...

I had Samesung S2 as well but had to return it to CPW as it has blue/yellow tint on the screen and red spot when taking pictures.
As for E3D's 3D camera you just point and shoot and prepare to be amazed. 2D is ok as long as you don't use the auto setting.
I use 4videosoft blueray ripper to convert 3d films. It is easy to use.
Never had a sensation so don#t know about its performance. On E3D everything is working as it should be- Fast and furious.
Be warned, there isn't a lot of preloaded 3D contents on UK's E3D. Only few pictures and that's it. No movie, no video clips, no games, no nothing. But there are tones of 3D stuff on youtube - just search yt3d. Or just go out and start shooting yourself. I still can't believe how good the 3D photos look on the phone( not too brilliant on big screen TV tho as it is only 2megapixel). 3D gaming is fun also.

That's correct. But you still have to take the battery cover out, it is a bit silly really. I miss how it was designed on the Windows mobile 6 where sd card is easily accessible by place it on the side of the phone.

No Green Hornet I am afraid, at least not on my phone. Battery consumption is really heavy on this phone, especially when taking 3D pictures roughly 800 -900mA because it uses both cameras. I usually only get 4-5 hours of heavy ussage. I can't not understand when people say their phone lase whole day when taking 3d photos videos and play games all the time. It is just not possible.
I went out having lunch with friends yesterday. Playing music 50 minutes , videos 5 mins and taking 25 3d photos, let m8s play with the phone for like 15 minutes. 5 hours later I have 7% battery left. If I play 3d games constantly, the battery will not last longer than 3 hours, about the same I got with Desire HD. In standby 8-15% drop over 6-8 hours period. There is not a lot of custom roms for GSM 3D to play about atm. Hopefully it will catches on.
As for 2d photo setting, sharpness + 1 helps a lot in general, under low light up the exposure rather than iso, other setting you just have to play it a bit and see what suit your taste the best. My conclusion about photo is doesn't matter how good a 2D photo is, it is never going to be as realistic as a 3D one.
Excellent thanks mine is out with royal mail this morning can't wait ... Tee the battery thats not bad for all that use s2 would last half that !

So how is multitasking on the evo 4g lte? Does the web browser reload the page if you open a txt message and then come back to the browser 2-3 minutes later?
Kind of concerned about the build quality posts. How bad are the charging ports? The glossy plastic not snapping down in all 4 corners?
i havent had any issues yet, it snaps down great and the browser works fine, even integrates with chrome very well. the multitasker seems alright so far. probably only a issue for something you have like 6 tasks back.
the point is if you look for a problem there will be a problem
I have had a bunch of things open at once and not really run into this issue yet.

Being a recent webOS refugee, I'm used to a certain level of multitasking. I can say it isn't great, most apps refresh when switching back to them in an incredibly annoying fashion. Otherwise while not quite webOS level, the multitasking works well enough.
minor multitasking issue on evo 4g lte
The only real multitasking issue I have run into is that Rhapsody will stop if you launch another app. I think this is more app related because google play music and the built in music player work fine with other apps running. I'm thinking this is an app issue that can hopefully be fixed with an update.
My apps seem to almost always reload when returning to them (even if it's only been several seconds.
I notice it most when using the tapatalk app, because I'm constantly losing my place.
My E4GT was much better at multitasking!

All of us webOS refugees will never be satisfied with multitasking unless someone comes out with a card system like webOS. It was the perfect UI with a few software short comings and huge hardware short comings(that's where it really failed). Anyway, the LTEVO is the closest I've seen to the card system on webOS except for the reloading issue. A few software fixes will make this phone even better.

Yeah, the EVO LTE is decently close except the annoying refreshes, which practically eliminate all the benefit of multitasking in the first place. It would also be nice if the fake cards shifted through one at a time rather than advancing all the way when scrolling between them.
