I'm trying to install this ROM on my Vibrant that's currently running KB5.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1105037
I saved the .zip file to my SD Card.
I installed ROM Manager and Flashed ClockworkMod Recovery. I'm rooted, so I got the superuser prompt which I said allow to.
I then went to Install ROM from SD Card and chose my ROM. I clicked ok to reboot the phone.
When it booted up, nothing installed and there were no options to install anything.
The top of the screen said Android system recovery (3e) then under it, Samsung Recover Utils.
Doesn't look like I'm booting to CWM.
What am I doing wrong?

go to rom manager and click boot to recovery or something like that, should take you to red or green recovery
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache
install rom/file from sd and go down to project v then yes
let it install
go to advanced
wipe dalvik and fix permissions
reboot
leave it for 10 min (dont touch anything)
reboot again
Nope. When I boot to recovery, I get the same screen as if I choose install rom from SD card.
There's nothing about install from SD card on that screen.
Any other ideas?

did you reinstall packages twice from stock recovery screen after flashing clockwork ??
No. why do I have to do that? I don't have the install zip from sdcard at all. Am I even on the right screen?

you need to do that to be able to get into clockwork recovery i think
havent dont it for awhile
3e stock is the issue. Backup. Odin to jfd. Flash the update. Zip, no need for rom manager. Much easier.
Check the noob guide in my signature.
Write, that's a pain. How do I just flash the zip once I'm back on jfd?
Odin, root, flash takes 10 minutes.
Start downloading the files, while you wait read my guide to find the easiest method.
Ok. I'll try that.
Not clear exactly what I do after I ODIN jfd and reboot.
I have the ROM I want on my SDCard. What do I do with update.zip? Am I using CWM to flash the ROM or what's the way to do it without that?

Too late for that. I'm flashing jfd now.
Ok. Files downloaded. Doing ODIN now.
Did I need to do anything with that update.zip?
Stand by, please.
Once jfd boots, move my update to internal root with your rom.
Your phone can be on, both volume s and power for about 9 second, release at Vibrant logo
Stock recovery
Reinstall packages
Do it again
Cwr
Now flash your rom
Boom
Ok. Got CWM to come up and choose to install my zip.
Says Installing: SDCARD: Project_V_06.......
Finding update package....
Been that way for a couple of minutes.
I think something is wrong. It's definitely just stuck there.
EDIT: I did a battery pull, then back into recovery and the ROM is installing now.
I guess it wasn't such a pain. My wife will kill me if I screw this up.
I guess that I figured once I went to JFD, there's really no going back, but if I flashed the ROM directly from the 2.2 ROM I was on, it was a major process anyhow and it wouldn't have been any easier going back.
Waiting for ROM to boot and will then let it sit idle for 10 minutes per instructions.
I really hope this works better than the stock ROM and doesn't have any showstopper bugs or I'll never hear the end.
And hope that my Titanium backup gets everything pretty much back the way it was.
I did backup TWLauncher with Titanium. Can I restore that to this ROM to get my home screen icons back or am I going to need to rebuild my home screen icons because it's a different TWLauncher version?
Cool, linda should be installing voodoo. You're golden.
I'm also on V. Strongly suggest his trigger theme on top. If you have not amazing signal, try the ka6 modem. Only issue with V, I can't stand the stock browser after having the cm7 browser.
I use adw ex, no clue what versions are there.
If you have the paid version of TB, restoring apps is cake. Avoid system apps, do NOT restore those.

Yes, I didn't even back up system apps. I've gone through that on my Droid X and you get the sync thing to never go away.
Maybe I'll try that KA6 modem. I flash that via ODIN, right? Why KA6, in particular?
I think we'll stick with the stock theme
Don't try ka6 until you feel you need to. There are flashable versions.
No stock keyboard included!?
Any way to get that back? I'm sure she's used to using the keyboard the way it was and won't want to learn an alternative keyboard.
I ran bloater and found samsung keyboard and wifi calling there and it says it's installing, but they don't.
Hello everybody,
First I'd like to thank to community for the hard work. I v read a countless amount of pages of this forum and I can't even imagine the time people spent helping on issues or writing tutorials.
So thank you if you re up to spend few minutes on my specific case (and sorry for the bad english).
Here is my device and the different version of kernel ...
1/ Rooting my device (tutorial in french translated from xda)
http://www.cnetfrance.fr/produits/guide-rooter-son-galaxy-s2-39763841.htm
S-Root version used: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
Everything went pretty well when I rooted the GS2. I got the Superuser app so i figure it's ok.
I just used a modified kernel found on xda who was corresponding the my base band version (just the PDA in Odin).
2/ Installing a new ROM (Cyanogenmod by Rom Manager)
I followed : http://www.redmondpie.com/install-cm7-on-galaxy-s2-using-rom-manager-how-to-tutorial/ and http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II:_Full_Update_Guide (official guide) using Rom Manager premium.
When i tried to reboot in Recovery (manually or with Rom Manager), i can't find the "Install the zip" option, I have 4 available: "Update from the zip", the 2 wiping/delete options and the reboot.
So obviously if i try to wipe files, wipe the cache then to update with the zip I have the following Error:
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
Do you have any idea what went wrong in the process ?
Should i flash the phone withOdin and change my base band version to another one ?
For info, I did the Permission Fix option in Rom Manager too. Didnt help.
Thanks a lot.
U need clockworkmod instaled first..

You didn't install ClockworkMod Recovery.
Thanks for theses answers but I think I installed it with Rom Manager and i flashed it to the last version.

When i reboot in recovery mode here is the only options available (and it's the problem i pointed out) :

As we've already said, you haven't installed CWM Recovery. You see at the top of your second photo where it says "Android system recovery (3e)"? That's stock recovery.
you can't install CWM recovery thru ROM manager.
just flash the CF Root Kernel for KI4 thru ODIN , you will have CWM recovery.
Hmm I understand about the CWM version I'm booting with, but as you can see on the first capture, my kernel version is a modified one i got after using Odin (puting this Kernel : GT-I9100_XXKI4_insecure.tar from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1101671).
I got the root access by S2 Root.
Ok I think I installed only the Kernel and not CF Root available here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
I ll try to redo Odin and stuff and let you know if I'm still alive.
So it's not great right now. I have installed CF Root with Odin, so I had CWM on my phone (I could see the application). Then after reboot with CWM Recovery and installing Cyanogenmod, the phone doesnt want to start anymore.....
I tried to apply the insecure kernel again with Odin but still impossible to download. I'm stuck on the screen with the yellow sign and written Galaxy S2.
HALP !!
I just tried to put back the official firware version : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and put it in my phone with Odin.
Ok, I dont have the yellow sign anywore but the phone is still stuck on the boot screen (where it's written Samsung GALAXY s II)...
What should I try ?
I'm still able to boot with CWM recovery but I didn't make any backup and nothing work.
Do you think the phone is dead ?
5 posts in a row?
So, just to clarify, you've tried to install CM7, which amongst other things tells you to do a nandroid backup, and also to flash twice in succession. Did you do either of these things? The instructions are there to be followed, don't just ignore them.
Ok my bad I didn't backup anything because I had no data to backup. This was maybe a bad move...
Anyway, I tried to flash it twice yes. Right now, i'm working with a modified Kernel (with CF Root), and booting in CWM Recovery. When I want to flash again by installing from the .zip I get a Satus 7 Error.
In CWM, every advanced options are apparently available but I dont know anything about them.
And just so you know, on my SD Card i have 1 update.zip and the update-cm-7.1.0-Galaxys2.... .zip from Cyanogen.

Flash a stock rom with Odin and then root your phone again. Start reading and follow procedures when you want to flash custom roms again .See Intratechs`s thread for a stock rom
Thanks for your reply.
I did it, it didn't work, I mean i could flash with Odin but the reboot doesn't work : the start screen appeared without the yellow sign, but it's stuck on it.
--- update
FYI, I installed Rom Manager yesterday, it way interact in a bad way with CWM Recovery.
For now i can mount USB by CWM Recovery but cannot do anything else.
If you have a method to clean completely the phone ? Maybe the bootloader is broken...

I re partitionned my SD Card with Odin and tried to install a new stock ROM. Everything pass with Odin but to finalize the set up (while reboot), I got some errors and still the same problem during the boot. It's stuck !
I installed a insecure Kernel so I can access CWM Recovery but still stuck and now I can't mount anything .

anyone see this? any suggestions? would a wipe fix it?
did you flash a rom if so which one?
no ROMs, simply just tried flashing CWM via Odin
may i ask why 2.3.5?
what were you trying to do?
i am still able to get into Download mode to flash files via Odin, so i dont think all is lost. but, still just stuck in recovery. when i try to reboot it just takes me right back into recovery. i may have flashed an incorrect version of CWM which could be the cause of this problem. if that was the case, any ideas as to how i can get back into a proper boot?

I was trying to flash CWM so i could flash a custom ROM. Had this phone forever and was just looking to try out some ROMs out there.
As long as you odin cwm none of your os is really touched.
try the cwm 4 fixed for cm7. http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...2&d=1311907538
Now when you reboot your device the stock kernel will over right the cwm.
also make sure you put the odin file in the PDA section.
So basically flash the new cwm and try booting into normal that should get you back where you started from. 100% stock.
that link didnt work. tried searching for the thread without any luck
for some reason it truncated the link with a '...' and it thinks that is part of the hyperlink
dl.dropbox.com/u/14764513/cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN.tar <- cwm 4 fixed for cm7
thanks.. so i flashed this via odin. same problem. i start the phone. the samsung logo comes up. it disappears for a second. then it comes back up and kicks me into recovery.
weird right? any suggestions
ok then what is your endgame?
Now before you said you flashed just the CWM, may i ask why...if you did not intend to flash a rom? were you going to flash a Kernel or obtain root?
Perhaps you should try this
Download this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278838
It is a custom kernel.
Now Flash CWM with odin
Put battery back in [dont touch power button yet]
Hold down BOTH volume and Power all at once * Dont let go until you see Samsung Logo.
[should still be plugged into pc via usb]
You will boot into CWM
using the volume up and down-Scroll down to Mounts and storage [select it by hitting the power button]
Then scroll to Mout USB storage
~now you should be able to see your SDCard as storage on your PC, put the Kernel some where on your SD Card~
[back on your phone Then Select Unmount
Scroll to ****Go bacK***** [select]
Scroll to install zip from sd card [select]
Select choose zip from sdcard
Navigate to where you have the zip
Select it
Scroll down to Yes-Flash........
Let the phone do its thing!
Good luck!

I got it from this link and also followed the video tutorial there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500234
I had rooted my phone and had CWM recovery v5.0.2.6
Now when I try to reboot, there is just an blue screen.
I did exactly like in the video, I tried 2 times. Still it didn`t work. Please help. Could someone provide any step by step instructions other than the video?
Thanks.
I think you needed to use with CWM 5+
Try to get back into CWM and root your old ROM.
I am very bad at this... So I dont really know how to do that... could you provide any steps or an tutorial?
Edit:well I tried to format sd card and system but nothing. Could someone provide a link to gingerbread 2.3.5 and a way Icould put it on my phone? Also, could I do anything with samsung kies?

NO NO. Don't use kies. Kies sucks a lot. Search the developer forum for "clockworkmod 5" flash it normally (I suppose you already know how-to since you have CWM4) after getting CWM5, flash ICS/CM9 Normally. no need to flash GB

Ughh I forgot to root my phone right after flashing. So I installed CWM before rooting.. how do I root now? And also I think it is still not working. The phone has been blue for about 2 minutes now. I followed the video exactly like it was.
EDIT: damn... so after getting the blue screen again I thought of going back to normal ver and maybe some other custom ROM... but guess what.... It doesnt work anymore... I did just like before.Went into download, used ODIN to download 2.3.5 french ver to my phone, odin says PASS. But last time It had booted correctly by 4:40 or so. This time like 10 minutes have passed and still rebooting. What to do now?
EDIT2: Am I allowed to make a new thread since the problem is not with cm9 anymore?

i dont think you need to root it before flashing this (i didnt)
i just flashed this over the stock rom (non rooted) and then flashed cm7.2
i too had such problems but dont worry flash some stock rom with odin then it wont boot so remove your battery and place it again.now go to stock recovery wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition then reboot.then use cwm 5 to flash cm 9.

First, let me apologize for what I'm sure is repetition, I searched the site and could not find the step by step process that I need. So again sorry.
I have a rooted Vibrant (I think, the superuser permission icon is there, from the market I downloaded "SU update fixer" and "BusyBox"because somewhere online it said I should) I updated to froyo when it originally came out and was told I had to go back to eclair to root which I just did 3 days ago.
My problem is I can't get clockwork recovery on my phone so I can flash a rom. I've downloaded heimdall and went through the steps (when I'm in the command prompt screen I get the error that it is not recognized as an internal or external command. Also "rom manager" Google market link does not recognize my phone, so I can't just download the app directly. It doesn't even come up when I search the market on my phone.
Another question, I thought once I rooted I'd be able to delete some bloatware from the device? How do I do it? Do I need to flash a rom before I can do this?
If it helps here are the current specs of my phone:Model SGH-T959, Firmware 2.1-update1, Baseband T959uvjfd, Kernel 2.2.29,Build Eclair

Try this (Use method B) it works like a charm every time.
also note that you dont have to install a custom rom if you prefer not to.
if you just flash the zip and reboot to clockworkmod then your set.
this is from s15274n's guide found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849028
There are two options here. Choose which is best for you, before you start.
ROOT ONLY METHOD:
A – This is an update.zip (633KB) that roots your phone only. You can then install Rom Manager from the Market to flash CWR (Clockwork Recovery) and install custom ROMs.
INSTALL CLOCKWORK RECOVERY AND FLASH A ROM THAT WILL GIVE ROOT ACCESS (MY PREFERRED METHOD):
B – use the other update.zip (1.7MB) and this will flash CWR for you – allowing you to immediately flash a custom ROM.. I do this because it's faster.
1.
A: Download this update.zip file to root your phone. You plan to install Rom Manager to flash CWR and a new ROM later.
B: Download this update.zip file to flash CWR... you will need to flash a custom ROM for Root. I prefer this method.
NOW DOWNLOAD THE ROM YOU PLAN TO FLASH
2.
Copy the update.zip (and the ROM) to the INTERNAL SD (not the external SD Card). sdcard/
3.
Unplug the USB (assuming you are still connected after using ODIN)...
Hold down volume up + volume down + Power for about 9 seconds.
If you prefer, you can power off your phone, then hold in all 3 buttons to boot into recovery, I don't see the point in waiting for the phone to power off.
This will get you to a recovery menu (blue/purple text) after some yellow text.
4.
In this (the stock recovery menu) select 'Reinstall Packages'
Use volume to navigate + power to select.
5.
It will cycle a bit, you will see that yellow text again, then it will return to the stock recovery. Select Reinstall packages again.
You are now in CWR (clockwork recovery).
You can either reboot, flash your new ROM or make a backup now...

Thanks a million!! I'm now running Android 4.2.2 using CM 10.1.3.
My only problem is I seem to have lost my apps/contacts/etc. I don't have android market anymore. Would you know how I can get my apps back??? I see my backups (reware) in the file section (external sd) but I don't know how to get them.

if you backed up with Titanium backup you'll need to restore them with that, but to do so you'll want to have the market to download titanium backup.
So to get the google apps back you'll need to flash the gapps package (Cyanogen mod doesn't include them by default)
here is the full list for all versions of android: http://goo.im/gapps
but I beleive youll want this one for 4.2.2: http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip
just reboot into recovery and flash it (no need to reflash the ROM but if you ever change roms you would flash the rom first and then the gapps package)
once you boot back into android you'll have the market back.
Thanks Again

Odd, I've really only seen that when you try to install a carrier ota update over a custom ROM
Flash the ROM and then the gapps files again in that order and you should be fine though you'll need to restore your apps with titanium backup again afterward.

If it happens again you might ask someone in the thread for that ROM if it's a known issue.
Or try an alternate ROM

I tried. Mighty Odin has failed me.

For about 6hrs yesterday, I tried using odin to get back to original stock(eclair) it has not worked. I get a pass each time but the phone does not reboot, at first it just relooped the vibrant screen, now vibrant screen flashes then screen goes black. When the phone is plugged in the battery icon just reloops. I noticed that when odin was done the beginning of the recovery screen had a red "data wipe failed" within the normal yellow text then it would turn off and go to the battery screen again. I've used several versions of odin none have worked. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I'm afraid it may be dead forever although I've read many posts that state that android phones are almost impossible to brick. I'm at my wits end.

I had that happen once but it was because of a lagfix.
below is a thread with someone with the same issue:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8734352
Also below is what fixed it (it also worked for me but my issue was for sure a lagfix issue):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8698655&postcount=150
Hopefully this helps.
luckily the Vibrant is famously hard to completely brick.
it usually just takes some trial and error to fix it.
don't give up

Thanks again, I've been at it for a few hours now, it goes into recovery but does not respond to my power button to reboot. Also beginning screen now says 1900. As though it flashed a different version.

the initial odin file you are flashing is a modified 19000 file.
if the 19000 kernel is flashed then the hardware buttons will be mixed up.
dont worry though if you got that far its good dont worry about using the power button to reboot.
just pull the battery.
then you'll need to use Odin again to flash the original android 2.1 files again.
this time it should go through and you'll be back where you started.
from there you'll need to re-root and flash the ROM of your choice.
Still not working

Ok so I pulled the battery, went back into download mode and tried to flash the original android files. When I did that I ended up with the stuck vibrant screen again. or if its plugged in the battery icon just keeps restarting. I've tried several versions of odin, nothing seems to work. I just keep going back and forth flashing the 19000 and trying to flash the original 2.1. I keep ending up at the same place. Every time I go through the odin process I always get a pass, but the original files do not flash. Again I appreciate all your help, I'll keep at it for a day or so but I'm losing the bit of patience I have left.

try following the steps below, I added the links for the files you'll need (hopefully the links are working, I cant test them from work unfortunately)
note that the first odin file is an 19000 file and the volume buttons on the phone will be reversed and menu selection will not work in recovery.
if you need to reboot you can use ADB or just pull the battery.
1. Download Eugenes 'Froyo that does not brick' file. HERE
2. Extract the files.
3. Open Odin, plug in your phone, then put it into download mode.
4. load the PIT file in appropriate area.
5. load the .tar file in the PDA area.
6. DO NOT check 're-partition'.
7. Click start, let it finish. Your phone will load and reboot into stock recovery. It will error out again. DONT panic! This is what's supposed to happen.
8. Now, pull your battery.
9. Download the 'True stock 2.1 firmware for the vibrant'. HERE
10. Extract the files.
11. Once again, open Odin, plug in your phone, put into download mode.
12. Load the PIT file into the appropriate area and the .tar in the PDA area.
13. THIS TIME you want to check the 're-partition' box.
14. Now click start, let it finish, and this time your phone will load up just fine! BAM!
Still no luck.

Yup, This was the order that I followed to the T. So step #7 was what got 19000 on my phone. It never errored out or rebooted just went to 19000 recovery screen and stays there. I took the battery out, put it back in, went back to download mode, I downloaded and tried to flash the True stock 2.1 and that's what got me to just a Vibrant screen. I'm not sure if my PC(windows XP) is the problem though this is the same PC I used to root and flash cyanogenmod, or if something inside the phone is messed up. I did notice during an earlier recovery the words "wipe data fail" in red among the normal yellow text. This may be the cause of the repeated bad flashes of the stock 2.1. I'll keep trying when I get off today and tomorrow but I may have to bite the bullet and get a new phone on Thurs.

You might have already tried this but you might try leaving it at the vibrant logo for a good 10 minutes.
I find that when I odin back to stock it takes a bit longer than usual to boot.
If it stays stuck you might try pulling the battery and try booting to recovery (if Odin was successful back to stock it should be the stock recovery)
if it lets you into stock recovery we will at least know the odin flash worked.
