Reading this forum, i feel I'm the only one with this very annoying issue:
The back cover of my StarTreck slides open by itself... turning the device off.
I'm thinking of returning it. Unless you know of another option?
The old mpx220 used to do this. I used a thin piece of card under the back cover to stop it. That said, I'd return it. You can't have had it very long.

Now that you're saying that I remember! I totally forgot about the mpx220!
I'll try the card thing. Returning an item is always so complicated in my neck of the wood! :?
I badly want a 32gb card for my phone but 1) They're not really buyable yet, and 2) I couldn't afford one anyway if they were.
So I've got the 8gb one that came with it and have got another 8gb one now as well.
Was wondering if there is a way that the spare one can be stored on/in the phone somehow, or if there is a product to do this?
I don't want to use a case for my phone as I hate the things. Companies spend a fortune making a phone as small as they can then people slap them in bulky cases that defeats the point. I understand people wanting to protect their new gadget of course but they're not for me. So that's not an option.
What I was thinking though, is for instance, a replacement rear cover with a tiny little raised bit in the middle which a spare microSD card could slot into. Preferably with the same sort of push in/push out latch mechanism that the phone itself has. If I can get something like that I'd be REALLY pleased but I would bet there's no such product.
So instead I'll have to keep one on a keyring which I may not always have one with me, or keep it in my wallet and then lose it etc etc. I don't really fancy having a spare card 'taped' onto my phone either!
What are the options, and what do other people do? I haven't checked but I'm assuming there's no space inside the back cover to store a spare?
Cheers!
I've seen a product on amazon that seems to be catering for this kind of thing but it looks enormous compared to what you potentially could have:
http://www.amazon.com/Micro-SD-Holder-Storage-Digital-Cameras/dp/B000Y3W51K
This is the sort of thing I want though - not sure if you can just order a single one from places like this, but if you had one of these push in slots attached solidly to a smoothed off battery cover it would be perfect. If I can find somewhere to buy a slot the same as in this link (can't find any on ebay for some reason) I'd try and make one myself!
http://www.findtheneedle.co.uk/products/519700-ultra45flat-microsd-card-holder.asp
Anyone know where I can order one of these (uk preferably or ebay if you can find one) ?
I guess one option is to get an SD adaptor and sort of glue it to the battery cover since they're very slim and some of them can have a very snug fit when you push in a MicroSD card.
Like one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/T-Flash-micro...14&_trkparms=72:1683|66:4|65:12|39:1|240:1318
Not sure how you'd make it look nice but that's another issue.....

I'm always carry a spare SD-card inside the phone with me, there is just enough space for it (figured it out by myself)!
It's quit simple:
1. Remove backcover
2. Lay a spare SD card upside-down on the metal surface, above, the same place/location/ position where you insert the SDcard).
3. Replace backvover, thats it!
Simple as kissing!Succes
No way! I'm picking up the spare card so I'll try but I thought there'd be no chance of fitting one in there. Cool!

You don't have to fit something, lay the spare down on the metal surface, replace backcover, that's it!
Just like I said before, simple as kissing
i carry a sim card and mem card in the same way under back cover
I do use a silicon case, which I do recommend as it adds nearly no weight/extra width to the device, but keeps the case shiny and new, and inside the cover I keep my Oyster/travel card, which means I can just 'swipe' my phone next to the card-reader, and I also keep a spare card-reader/card in there, again it adds no bulk. Glad to know I can fit one inside as well
Actually, this SD tip is in the sticky

would the card reader damage the phone over time?
Possibly. I've stopped doing it now, but when I did I kept it in a tiny sliver of felt, again adding v. little bulk but protecting it.
But I stopped after a couple of weeks as I never used it!
Store 3 SD Cards in HD
1 in SD Slot and 2 on top of SIM card. Cover fits nicely on top. Thats what I do.

just tried this now, as i have a 4gb card, a 2gb card, a 1gb card, the 8gb card i got with the phone, and a blanking card (not a card but a piece of plastic the same shape and size) any way it works the 2 cards are there.
question is will it damage the second card or phone, also why not just buy a 16gb card till the 32gb comes out.

Brown housing on Ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/T-Mobile-G1-G...14&_trkparms=72:1301|66:2|65:12|39:1|240:1318
black as well if you search, just bought a brown meself! woop.
how are u planning to take it apart?
i wanna get the white housing when it comes out.. but i;m afraid to take it apart
White G1 Housing, Attempt
I have just purchased a white g1 Housing set for $50, don't call me retarded, money wasn't really an issue for me and I hate the bronze color. Anyway, has anyone actually attempted this and successfully got it functioning afterwards? Any quick replies would be awesome, ty!
do a search for the service manual. Its floating around out there. This gives a step by step on how to take apart and put back together the dream
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468673
Let me know how this goes. Curious as to the difficulty level.
What condition is your bronze casing in? lol I have a black, but prefer the bronze.
It's in perfect condition, I only got the phone like 2 weeks ago. No scratches or scuffs, I just prefer a different color. I'm going to give this thing a go lol, unless you're talking about a trade or something.
as long as you follow the service manual perfectly (it's pretty in-depth) then you should have no problems. doesn't look too hard to take apart, just ****ing time consuming
wanna link me to the website where you bought this housing?
i wanted white also.

I'm be interested to know how the transformation goes. I'm not really interested in changin my blakc to any other color, but I'd love to get Telefonica's modded chin installed on my phone http://htcsource.com/index.php/Android/Telefonica-to-launch-HTC-Dream-with-a-facelift.html

Anyone found a replacement housing with memory card cover?
I have dropped my phone and will be eventually looking to replace the housing.
But all the adverts on ebay(uk), none of them seem to list the memory card cover. I could use my original, but I kinda fancy a change to white! ;-)
Anyone know where to get this cover?
Thanks,
Really really sorry to bump this.....
Anyone had any luck finding spare G1 memory card covers?
Little surprised no one else is interested in this issue, especially if they fancy changing their housing (for repair/colour change) in the future.
As far as I can see, none of the sellers on ebay include this cover, so don't lose it or wreck it!
I dont think the G1 has enough of a market to mass produce housings, ebay is prob your best bet. You can try contacting HTC and see if they can give you a lead but other than that I think you'll have to look for someone with a bricked phone.
EDIT: Sorry, forgot u were lookin for mem card cover
@Edit: No problem; glad you noticed before I got round to typing reply!
Like I said, every single ebay listing I have seen does not include it.
Just seems a strange thing to for them to miss out, anyone know a reason?

yeah as ya can tell from the torx thread i bought that ebay one planing to change to white as well and its not as simple as i thought when i started i don't think anyone includes one and the main piece the one that the keyboard is attached to has a metal cover that appears to be glued in place and i could not move it to the one i received with the new housing which is why i decided to go with the 2 tone look. http://stryph.googlepages.com/DSCF2807.JPG Also.. the ebay crap is cheaper than Phuk its allready cracked on me a bit WTF? will post more pics l8r just got in from the fight *wtf man wtf??* (Hope hatton recovers completely and suffered no permanent damage)

Does anyone know for sure whether the replacement screens on Ebay are Gorilla Glass? They have come down in price considerably (under US$50) but I'd rather get a genuine gorilla glass one than a cheap knock off.
Cheers
Why?
Your first one was "genuine gorilla glass" and its broken.
So why get the same one.. IMO the ebay screens are just as good. I have one on my streak. (first screen starting bleeding and dell says not their fault... Go figure. ((after much *****ing they sent me a new phone. Its still sitting unopened in my closet. Lol.))
And at under 50$ (paid 90$ for mine) you dont have much to lose. While your at it you might as well stick a 4gb micro sd in place of the one in it.
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
Yeah I guess at that price it doesn't really matter. I actually haven't broken glass, funny/embarrassing story, I had some chocolate that melted in my bag where my phone was and some of it got into the socket so I cleaned it out as best I could but there was still some residue in there so I decided to spray some contact cleaner in there to flush out anything left and it worked well. That is until I turned on my phone and saw that contact cleaner and chocolate got sprayed in between the lcd and the glass!
So now whenever I'm trying to view a web page or anything white I can see a brown smudge under the glass. Not particularly good when you're trying to show off your phone to people ha ha
I was thinking of replacing the internal SD, really want to put in a 16/32gb card but seems like it's too much trouble. Would the Kingston class 10 4GB be compatible?
I can't believe they went down to $56. I bought one 2 weeks ago for $86
Mine looked identical to the original.
The max card for internal is 4gb. Class 10 is just fine. I installed one just this past weekend.

Awesome, so do I basically just take out the old one, put the new one in and just install 1.9 again?
Then just use Backup & Restore? Are there any backup programs that will backup my app installs so that I dont need to download them again from the store?

Search for "Nandroid Backup" and wade through the million hits until you find a set of instructions you can follow. I'm not trying to be a "search is your friend" jerk, but there are many instructionals out there and I have not personally tried them yet so I can't recommend a good one to you.
Have a look at this thread over at Modaco;

You will find good info about replacing the internal memory
Hi guys,
I have been facing a problem with the falp on the left side of my xperia z2 (white, but has no gaps nor missaligns), which is that it keeps coming off. First it was ok, nothing moved, then, after opening and closing 4 times to connect to the PC it started coming off.
Now i only take it off to plug it tot he charger. infact, i bought and adapter so that i can use the wireless charging already.
The only solution I found was on a thread where someone said to put sillicone lube on it. This worries me, since i've put some (not to gross out people) "mouth moisture", AKA spit, on the rubber and it instantly makes the flap jump out of position, so i assume a lube will only make it worse.
I have contacted sony but if i send it to repais i will be without a phone for atleast 10 working days, and that is if i'm lucky....
This is a problem, since the phone is waterproof, or i would just cut off the damn thing
Does anyone have a solution for this?
thank you very much
Ive found that the flap its self losens after time but it being closed is only problematic when there is dust in the port, cleaning it out solves my problem

Well, unfortunatly not mine... that was the forst thing I did when it stopped closing.
Amazingly now it is staying closed, has not self-opened for about 8 hours.
I guess it just gets posessed now and then...
I'd get that checked out, been using mine a lot since I got it a month ago and this has never happened, surely this will affect the water resistance.

Same with what Envious_Data said, cleaning out the dust from the flap and the "socket" where the silicone seal seats solved the problem for me.

This is what you answered on your post and i have seen the answer, but " doesnt seem to fall as often now" is not, imho, the ideal scenario for a 700 euro phone, now is it?
Mine has not fallen today, which is a freaking miracle. Did not do a thing to it, it just... fixed itself i hope. Not gonna put it under water though

Haven't have it pop open on me since then actually. However I do fully agree with you that it's totally unacceptable for a shiny new flagship device to have such flaws.
I got the damn same problem! It looks like is the dirt but it might be something else. I cleaned the flap pretty (really) well. I did it with a slightly weet (with alchol, be carefull)cotton swap. I had to do this two times to be sure its really clean. Its holding more time in its place now. I'll post if the flap pop out again by itself.

Sony do, either send it for repair or live with it.
Bear in mind if any home made repairs ie silicone gel worsen matters you may find Sony refuse to fix ot

Thanks, must be the flaps have been twisting too much and it was trying to twist back or something which made it push off.
Taking it off and putting back in fixed it 100% for me, just ordered a magnetic charger though. Dont wanna remove and put it back in every month.
Thanks so much for your post, I used a wall pin and de-dusted my flap and it no longer wants to keep opening.. It was quite surprising how much was actually there
Thanks again!

Buying a replacement isn't so easy, well it is, but 99% are copies unless they have been pulled from old phones now. Most if not all the reviews condemn these replacements as poor quality and unfit for purpose. I have recently lost my micro USB cover and am waiting on delivery of a "copy" port replacement. Cost just under £5 for a pair of covers. Could of got some second user official ones for £7 but I thought I'd take the risk with the copies.
As for cleaning I just use ear buds/Q tips to collect the lint/dust.. anything sharp will only compromise the water proof nature of the seal.
