Bricked Phone. Need Help. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my SGS2 today and everything went well. I then tested some root apps (e.g. deleted the annoying shutter sound, installed setcpu).
But then the Screen suddenly went black.
When I turn it on now, only the first row of pixels displays something, the rest of the screen stays black. It seems to boot correctly though.
I succeeded in reflashing the CF-Root Kernel but the problem still exists.
What could I do next?
Thanks in advance.

Are you able to describe exactly what is on your screen. Is it a phone!computer???

I added a Picture to the first Post.

Did you modify the CPU speed just before this happened?

The big question is can you get the phone into download mode .
If so you may be able to recover by flashing a stock rom via Odin .
Or get downloiad mode via USB recovery jig .
If not its a service centre job .
jje

I'd reflash the ROM again. It seems you can get into download mode since you said you were able to reflash the kernel. However, I think some of the files in the ROM itself are missing or corrupt which are causing this. The kernel won't fix that but reflashing the ROM might.

I did look at the SetCPU possibilities and enabled the default settings. But the Shutdown occured about an hour later after sending a message.

Yes, I am able to boot in download mode. I just flashed a Stock ROM without Repartitioning as described in this Thread. It still shows the same black screen as before.
Should I try it again with repartitioning enabled in Odin?
Thanks.

Just a line as in the image. But the longer I keep it in download mode the more sparkles appear on the screen and it gets brighter.

Service centre if its not booted after flashing a stock rom its probably hardware .

Has my Galaxy 2 Died?

So today I was running my Galaxy 2 like any other regular phone. I had pulled it out of my pocket and was listening to some music whilst playing some game that I recently downloaded from the Android Market. Before I started playing it I recall my battery was at 18%.
Then all of a sudden.
My screen turned off.
I thought hmm. Maybe it just turned off. Attempted to turn it back on. Nothing.
I started to worry.
So I tried to boot my device in download mode or recovery mode.
Nothing
Even more worringly I attempted to charge my phone to see if the charging thing would pop up.
Nothing at all.
So I'm wondering if my GalaxyS2 has died?
At the time I was running CM7.1 Nightly 81 with Siyahs 2.0 beta 6.
any chance of claiming it on warranty as they can't check the actual phone for flashes, or a possible solution?
Hey, sounds ugly.
Did you leave the phone plugged in for some time? because I think the phone needs some juice, when it was down to zero battery, before it will show anything on the screen.
For your warranty, You know I would first try everything to get it back by yourself and if nothing is going to work then I would guess the sammy guys can't do much either. So if you send it back then and you get a new one be happy, if not yeah you know hope that it will not cost too much. Good luck dude.
Try to pull out the battery and put it back in and plug in the charger and let it be for som time.
Well **** me sideways....
On the way back home from the vendor to get the charger my phone turned on.
Like... What the actual hell???
Its currently charging in my USB.
I just tried flashing an old backup I had and that didn't work for some strange reason.
I'm going to try and flash a stock rom from the USB and see what happens. Not willing to turn it off though.

Ah great news....is it still on ?
But I would recommend using stock for a while to see if this problem comes up again.
But as you are using a CM nightly that might be the reason for the problem.

[Q] [HELP!] S3 wont even boot

So my S3 went into a boot loop. And I dont know how I got to this point but now the phone wont even boot, when plugged in to my comp it shows the battery symbol but its greyed out with the circle in the middle, and it stays like that. If i hold the power putton it comes up with the Galaxy SIII GT i9300 screen but then goes back to the battery. I can get it to go into download mode though. I think somehow I may have deleted all the files required for the phone to actually boot(Im a n00b so im not completely sure) Can somebody please help me?
I was on custom ROM before and my binary counter is at 4, so sending into samsung doesn't sound like a great idea :/
Thanks for the help and sorry if this has been asked before, I have searched for hours.

If you also can go into recovery, try to wipe. In addition did you flash any custom kernel?
If not, try to reflash a rom with odin after you got into download mode or did you try this already?

If you mean with CWM mod, no I cant, it just shows the Galaxy S3 GT i9300 screen then goes black. Yes i did have a custom kernel, I believe it was the latest Perseus one. I already tried this with a stock rom and it idnt work, it said it had passed but i still can boot the phone.

as you can go into download mode but not recovery, what about flashing CWM another time (if you did not try it already). Maybe it solves the issue with recovery and from there you could go on trying to wipe etc.
Other options would be to do a mega or super wipe (if this is possible from odin & download mode, not sure though), to get your phone completely empty (mega) or at least to factory reset (super).

The thing is there is nothing wrong with my phone in terms of hardware. The problem that I am having is purely software, I think I just need to restore my phone to a previous version. I did see that thread but didnt feel my post belonged there as my problem is nothing to do with broken battery or mobo or anything along those lines. Hence why I am posting here
Just factory reset via recovery then flash a stock rom via Odin .
No recovery flash CF root via Odin .

I did install a stock ROM and it was still stuck on bootloop, left it like that for an hour, still nothing. So I went into CWM (after flashing it) Wiped and factory reset (noticing it said error mounting /data but ignored) and then restored with a backup I had. it did say error mounting /data and so skipped that step. Still stuck in boot loop. now that I try wiping again the same error occurs, error mounting /data any ideas please?
I did have this problem a few days back. The only thing i did was downloaded my Carrier stock firmwaer and extracted boot.img and used Samsung galaxy toolkit and make a filé that i was able to use with Odin. Dunno if ot helps you but my Phone is still going strong

Cant't get my S2 to start. No image AT ALL

I had just flashed my phone to CF-Root 5.6. It all went very well, took about 8 seconds, and it rebootet normally.
Then my plan was to update to JELLYBAM - v5.1.0.
I copied the .zip file into the SD card, and entered recovery mode.
I Wiped the data/cache, and installed it.
In the middle of the installation, all of sudden, the phone went black.
I tried to turn it on, put out and in the battery, enter recovery mode and download mode and connect it to the pc. Nothing worked.
I can't get any picture on the phone anymore, and i really need help with this. I have tried everything that i know about.. :crying:
How do i fix this??

Hey the exact same thing happened to me yesterday, and I was also installing JellyBam. I followed the exact same steps as you and my phone also went black during installation and is now hard bricked and needs to be JTAG repaired in order to work.
Looks like you guys have encountered phonus brickedus
This happened to me too, yesterday. There are lots of threads that discuss these things. If you cant access anything you can try a jig. (look it up)
I, however, tried jig and JTAG but no solutions found so i sent it to service center. Now i just pray to god that they don't find out that my phone's rooted (which makes my warranty vioded).
As far as my expertise says, if you cant find a Jig or JTAG solution, send it to service. When my phone arrives (if it does) i can tell you if they knew that i had rooted or not.
Regards.
PS. Did you follow it's flashing steps carefully?

What diff does that make? He was on custom kernel not stock.
Did you guys have at least 55% battery? On some occasions flashing roms can use allot of processing power and drain unusual amounts of battery. For example sometimes I have been on full battery, flashed a rom and its used 40% so if you guys was on low battery it could have died and screwed up your rom, kernel or worse your bootloader resulting in brick.
Sure that custom kernel was safe atheist?
Sounds like emmc to me.....

I also don't think it was the bug as the phone died while flashing the rom, not during the wipe. Perhaps it was a bad download or a link that took users to a rom for the wrong model of phone. Hopefully every user effected will get there phone repaired.

[Q] SII stops at the very first screen

Hi,
My S2 was working perfectly and I put it on charge. About 15mins later I walked past and noticed it was displaying just the very first screen ie the one you see as soon as it starts and says Galaxy S2. Tried all the usual things like removing battery etc. I thought I might have a corrupted ROM so I have re-flashed it with Odin and whilst that was successful it is still at the same screen. I flashed it with the Australian XSA ROM. I can get it into flash mode but nothing else.
Anyone have any further thoughts?

OK thanks for the quick reply. Tried to get there but what happens is the android appears with his whirling blue bit....then it goes to black and the samsung galaxy s 2 screen again appears and thats where it stays. The only mode it will go into is the flash rom mode. In other words vol up plus power and home buttons does the above whereas vol down plus home and power gets me successfully to the rom flash screen.

The only other thing I can think of is to flash a .tar recovery from download mode(vol down+home+power).
Try the modified kernel from philz HERE You will need to match the kernel to the rom version, read carefully particularly the 2nd and 3rd posts
Just untick reboot on finish in odin and once you succesfully flash the kernel try to enter recovery from power off. Good luck

Do you still have the stock rom file that you used with odin? If not you might be able to identify the rom from the website you got it from.

Yes, thats the kernel you need. Just get the .tar version of the kernel and flash in download mode(vol down, home, power). I'm hoping you can get a working recovery to give you a few more options. It may not work, as I suspect you have filesystem corruptions or something, but try that anyway
OK ...will try that in a few days ...again, thanks for the help

Samsung s3 i9300 without screen touch support problem

im using cm12 archidroid 3.5.14 and decided to update to 3.5.15 version last night. but the update didnt went well, something went wrong and i got 'recursive' error, and it started to boot loops.
i tried so many solutions, i odin this and that and nothing worked. i downloaded cwm 6.0.0.47 i think, and managed to install the AD rom, but now im stuck at languange selection, i cant select anything because screen support isnt working
what do i do now?

You did "odin this and that"? That's never a good idea. Just saying...
I would try to flash latest AD again but with a proper up-to-date recovery e.g. latest TWRP after making a nandroid backup.

Well then, if you already flashed stock rom via odin, your data is already gone. Make sure your phone is working on stock first now. Please be aware that the first boot after each rom flash might take up to 15 min or so because the cache has to be built at first boot!
You can find the link to TWRP recovery in my signature (see My Gadgets). I suggest your read the tutorials that are linked there also for more information.
thanks again, glad to hear there's still hope. i will do as you advised.
So, in order to get stock firmware flashed and running, can i use twrp-2.8.6.1-i9300.tar from your signature?
1st i odin the twrp-2.8.6.1-i9300.tar, and then reboot into download mode, and odin firmware stock?
in that order? i havent done this in a long time, i've been using AD for so long without any problem, i dont really exactly remember how. i just concern about the touch screen not functioning, i really hope no hardware failures. i never experience anything like this, even in recovery mode, the touch screen doesnt work, i had to flash entire process using up/down and power button
right now i havent done anything since the last attempt ( flashed stock rom, and stuck at samsung logo )
currently., im charging the battery, will try get it up and running after the battery is full
thanks mate

1st i odin the twrp-2.8.6.1-i9300.tar, and then reboot into download mode, and odin firmware stock?
in that order? i havent done this in a long time, i've been using AD for so long without any problem, i dont really exactly remember how. i just concern about the touch screen not functioning, i really hope no hardware failures. i never experience anything like this, even in recovery mode, the touch screen doesnt work, i had to flash entire process using up/down and power button
right now i havent done anything since the last attempt ( flashed stock rom, and stuck at samsung logo )
currently., im charging the battery, will try get it up and running after the battery is full
thanks mate
