So I got the evo 3d and it was working fine until recently. its quite annoying of an issue. every time i delete all my sms threads, they keep reappearing in the phone. i could delete all of them and then put the phone down, and i get messages i've had on my phone from weeks ago. i factory reset my phone and unchecked the google back up portion and i still have this problem. i'm logged into htc hub, watch, my gmail, twitter and facebook account and skype. i've uninstalled look out security , i didnt do any backups besides that look out and that google back up thing. i cant seem to make these sms stop coming on the phone.
any fix to this or is anyone else having a problem???
i'm guessing it has to do with my google gmail account but i cant find any sms portion in gmail. i have all my contacts synced with gmail and i never had this problem on my evo 4g.
I'm almost 99% sure it has to do with HTC hub, go to htcsense.com and sign in with you HTC sense account and you will see those sms you speak of I bet ya
i didnt even know about that site. . but i'm on it now, it says its syncing for the first time. but no place to see the sms's although i did hit the ring button and it played my ringtone on my phone. .
soon as it sync's up i'll see. .
i kept deleting the messages from my phone and so far none have popped back up. and i'm just deleting all the sms's i get to keep it no messages on the phone to test it out.
went to privacy and unchecked the back up thing, and checked it back up. thought that would have made a difference but it didnt. . waiting for it to sync on that site and will post reply again. .
THANK YOU , your reply was greatly appreciated
seems after a while several more sms's popped up . . this htc sense site needs to hurry up, is there somewhere i should look for the sms thing cuz all i see is a big box with the message stating its syncing may take several hours and then i get the greyed out forward calls and messages etc. .nothin about sms unless its the messages thing but not selectable at the moment

So I have one particular contact that always causes "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly please try again [Force Close]" no matter how I get to it. I have a shortcut on my screen that crashes immediately.
If I enter the Contact app and click on the offending contact no information comes up, it just says "No additional Information for this contact" then the force close window pops up.
So this seems like a minor problem except the offending contact is my wife.
And here's where it gets strange. If I go look at her contact on my pc (in gmail) it all looks fine, It has 1st name last name, her picture, 2 phone numbers (mobile and work), 3 email addresses, birthday, anniversary, and google talk id.
So I delete the contact from Gmail, and refresh my phone. I create a new contact with her name and it immediately begins crashing again. If I create a new contact under a different name with her information it works fine.
As a last ditch effort I restored the phone to factory settings, and deleted her contact out of Gmail.
With a clean phone and no remains of the contact that I know of, I created a contact called "Test Wife" entered her information and everything worked fine. Renamed it to my wifes name and bam it starts crashing again.
I'm so lost. There has to be something in either android or gmail holding on to a corrupt version of her contact. I just cant figure out what. Any Thoughts?
I'm running Unnamed 1.2
Weird. What's your wife's name!? I want to see if it happens on my phone.

hahahahah well did it.
Ok, so I think I figured it out. It has to do with her contact info in Twitter. If I go into twitter and tell it not to sync contact info then all works correctly.
Well that's no fun. I was hoping for a glitch that'd be fun to mess with.
I think most people on xda are here because they appreciate humor like:

I've experienced the same problem when syncing with linkedin and facebook. I had to tell android to not sync both of these in order to keep my contact records 'clean' and not force a crash.
I just ran into it again on a different contact when skype tried to sync contact info.
This same thing is happening to me when I go to edit a contact or add a new contact
But i'm not syncing with anything (maybe google?)
How would this prohibit new contacts and/or editing a current contact?
how do I fix this?

It might be helpful if ya'll pulled and posted logcats so any dev who looks at this thread might be able to tell you what's breaking.
I really don't know why it isn't a requirement to post a logcat when somebody posts "I has a crash".
Thank jeebus for the search! I too was having trouble with contacts tab causing FC, and Facebook sync was the culprit. Sadly, I probably never would have thought it was something that simple...
so i have noticed something weird..
my GF's b-day is this friday (4-20). when she happend to call me earlier today i noticed on her contact picture there was a small birthday cake icon and text that said "tomorrow".
today being 4-18 and her birthday not until 2 days from now i wondered what was going on. so i went to the contact app and tried to verify her birthday, only i couldnt find a field to set her birthday. failing that, i went to the calendar app and it says, and has an event marked on 4-20 for her birthday.
has anyone else noticed this on their phones? the contact notification reports 1 day earlier than supposed to? i have verified that the contact information is correct in exchange. i dont sync contacts with any other service other than exchange, i do howerver sync with multiple exchange accounts.
edit> the calendar entry is probably from exchange but i cant be sure, which may indicate why it is set correctly on the calendar app.
i have searched google and noticed the same complaint (although much older complaints) but most of those people were syncing with facebook *shrugs*

Care to tell us which ROM you are using?
I had a similar experience on mine but it wasnt limited to birthdays. An event would show up a day earlier or later (I cant remember).
Last week or so, I randomly came across an article that said there had been a bug on some samsung phones that caused this issue when an event was added to the calendar as an "all day event." or birthdays now, I add it to the individual contact and it shows up in the calendar without this issue.

I am not sure if I setup the new phone correctly or not. With my old phone I went under Settings--Call-Voicemail Service and could select voice. With this new phone not seeing the option. Also I have to click and open to view if someone left me a message or not inside of Google Voice application. Is this because of how HTC is doing multi-tasking a little different? Thanks for any help or insight.
I'm not getting voicemail notifications from GV either. It started after I flashed a custom rom.
could be the sleep issue that seems to be plaguing everyone, but other than that im not sure what it could be
I saw someone else post but did not fully understand the sleep issue and since I have not unlock phone was not clear if that is what cause the problem or stock has the same issue. Thanks for the information.

I just called myself from a land line and left a voicemail. Within 30 seconds, I got an email and a text from GV notifying me of the new VM. I'm on Fresh 5.1.1 and have been about a week now. This is the first I've heard of this problem so I was worried that maybe something had recently changed. All appears to be fine here.

That's not the issue. Those are separate notifications. He's talking about getting a notification directly from the google voice app. You can turn off text and email notifications and just rely on the app. I have not been getting notifications from the app either.
You are correct timtlm that the app is not giving me the notifications anymore or I guess ever but still pretty new to the phone. Also wanted to mention in my old Evo 4g I had it setup to not to use the carrier voicemail service. Does not seem to be an option but that might be because of IC version.

OK, I just got it to show the notification. I had checked the settings in the app to be able to review google voicemail within the call history. I'm guessing sense doesn't support that since I don't see anything in the call history. After unchecking that, I started to get notifications again.

I unchecked it. It's in the Google voice app under menu, settings, voicemail display. It was unchecked by default. It's supposed to be a new ICS feature.
I already have that one checked. This is just so strange but guessing it has something to do with the sleep feature of the phone.

He said he UNCHECKED it i believe.
I also was not getting notifications for voicemails, but was for texts so I don't think it is a sleep issue. Sounds like unchecking that setting should give me voicemail notifications too, thanks.
I've been using Google Voice with these settings from the Sync And Notifications menu with no problems. I never did set up the Voicemail on the phone, and for messaging its Google Voice unless its a MMS instead of SMS. Google voice doesn't support MMS so it automatically goes to the messaging app. Notification works fine for all.
Just flashed cm11 and don't get GV text notifications.
Well I see them slide up in the top if I'm looking while I get a text but they don't stick. (Or no notification if it's off)
I didn't set up vm within GV, and I've reset GV app data, still no luck.
Also I use 2 accounts. 1 main one for email (and app purchases), and 1 primarily for Google voice.
I have no sync off for gv account. But the thing is the same setup on my tablet, I get notifications. (Same amounts, same sync settings, running jelly bean on tab, kit kat on phone)
Any suggestions?
So I recently returned to android after about a year's absence.
I was hoping this issue with google voice had been worked out, especially as I am about to do a full convert/port to google voice. I searched a bit but couldnt find an answer.
So the same contact will text me but often times google voice will create multiple threads making it very annoying to sift through them on the Voice SMS Inbox. It does this also on my browser window. Its not 100% of the time, but almost seems like if its a text on another day, another thread is made. Is there a way to fix this or merge the threads under the same contact?
Any ideas? I also posted on the google forums so if I find an answer I will keep everyone apprised because Im sure others have had this issue.
Thanks!
Here is a screenshot of what I mean (see the multiple threads from the same person "rachael").. Surely someone else out there has experienced it and knows what to do..
I have read some people just archive the old texts, which I guess is a decent temporary fix. One friend with an iPhone uses several apps to work it out, but they arent on android. Seems old this problem can be remedied on the iPhone but not the Google android OS.

I'm also having this issue. Someone told me that emptying your texts and inbox solved the issue for them. It had something to do with a bug in google voice for older accounts that was fixed for new accounts going forward. Maybe that may solve your problem. Another thing you could look into is using Talkatone. It manages your Google Voice SMS too.

gosh I'd hate to delete everything in the inbox, but maybe if that will fix it..
I have had the gvoice account for several years, i might create a new one and see if that fixes it or something.
Let me know what you find out, if cleaning out your box works.
Before you do that try downloading and installing Talkatone. Talkatone manages your Google Voice texts too.
Thanks.
Hmm I had tried talkatone a few months ago and it didnt work as well as sipdroid with my setup for voip.
Maybe I will give a second chance. Also the issue would still persist on google voice in browser right?
UPDATE:
I started a new google voice number with a different gmail but the same problem persists.. Quite annoying
3-4 months going and still this unbelievably annoying issue.. Im surprised more google voice users out there arent tearing their hair out.. I have submitted feedback and suggestions several times to google..
Gawwwwwwww
I have the same issue, and yes it's annoying when trying to find old texts, but as a workaround, I forward all GV texts to my regular number. The stock messaging app doesn't have this issue. This might not work though if GV is your only number.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
Thanks. I have thought about that (through google integration apps) but I send at least 50% of my texts from the browser on my computer and I think if I forwarded all the texts to stock messaging if I were to send a text it would not sync it with the browser?
If thats not an issue please go into more detail as i would be interested in forwarding the texts to the stock app..
When you forward to your stock app, all your messages come from different numbers. When you text those specific numbers, it goes through GV and is synced with your GV app and browser.Give it a shot, if it doesn't work, you can always set it back

Agree.. So aggrivating. I thought with the latest google voice update it seemed to fix it because I had a few day old replies stay in the same thread but then it happened again later.. Grrrr
Same problem
Yes. I have had the same problem with the multiple threads. Its a big pain. That and my outgoing call log that shows the number i dialed and the GV proxy number. WIsh there is a way to hide that proxy number as well as consolidate the text messages.

I did a lot of research on this as it annoyed me to no end as well. Everything came up dry, except for this post on the Google forums saying it was by design.
P.S.: Sorry for the necromancy... I didn't pay attention to the date...
Seriously, this really infuriates me.
I have to regularly send text messages to 30 people. Sometimes they are up to 3 messages long, that's 90 messages. This should not be a problem.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 with the latest CyanogenMod.
- First, Android seems to have a 100 messages per hour hard limit. Still, if my messages are max 3 texts long, this should not be a problem.
- The native Messaging app, nor Google's Hangouts have the option to text a contact group.
- When I enter all recipients manually in Hangouts, it keeps erroring. I'm fortunate to have noticed that DeskSMS can show me which messages got though. Usually around half of them. I them manually select the others and retry. (The built-in retry option retries to send to everyone and so it can take hours and multiple retries before everyone received the message at least once.)
- There are specific apps in the Play Store for Group Messaging. I tried several ones:
- [Group SMS & Scheduler](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.baole.app.groupsmsad2) - This app used to work on my HTC Desire, but fails for my S4. It just sends some random messages (last time I checked it broke the multipart sms up in parts) and sends some random parts to maybe 5 people. Absolutely worthless.
- [Groep SMS](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobappli.groupsms) - This app just does nothing when I tried it last time. It also feels quite weird so I didn't try it again.
- I also tried to use replacement texting apps like Go SMS or Handcent, but they don't work if you don't configure them as the default text messaging app. I'd like to stick to Hangouts if possible.
- Lastly, whatever option I tried, something I always get is 5-10 popups telling me that "App X" is sending a lot of messages and if I want to allow it to continue. I'm suspect that this messages may cause group texting apps to fail because they just try all messages sequentially and don't place them in a queue or something. Once one of them fails because I have to confirm it, all other after it may fail as well.
Google really sucks at providing a good user experience. They always come with "innovative and shiny" new features no-one needs, but fail to provide a good experience for the core functionality of their (Android) products.
Is there anyone that knows a solution for my situation? It would be much appreciated!

CyanogenMod has an option to increase the SMS limit, at least CM10.2 does, I believe they ported it to CM11 as well. You can look into Settings - Security - SMS message limit (near the bottom).
If it is not there, you can try this.

The native CyanogenMod Messaging app does have the option. When you write a new message, press the + sign to the right of the contact input option, and from there you can add contact groups. See the attached image.
