Hello,
When Android 3.0 releasing? and when it released Can I get it on SGSII/SGS2?
3.0 is already released, its honeycomb, 3.5 ice cream will be released in the fall at some point. The SGS2 will get it first through CM8 and we will probably wait 3-6 months for a Samsung release. This is all based on past experiences... May differ

Ok Thanks Cant wait for updates
3.X is tablet only
4.X will be icecream sandwich which will be 3.X fused with 2.X to form a unified OS for phones and tablets.
We are most likely to get 4.X via CM or custom rom before samsung official.
Version numbers, and any other info about icecream sandwich are rumours or guesses at the moment.

Announced at Google IO, will we see the next Android version Ice Cream Sandwich on our SGS2?
They also said samsung have signed up to providing updates for 18months on new phones, does that include the SGS2?

I'm guessing (and hoping) that will mean yes!
As far as ive read, the android carrier alliance has promised updates for atleast 18 months on all phones in their current lineup. Since the sgs2 is so new we should be ok.
All phones released after the signing of the deal are covered.
I suppose the next question to ask is how dry is that ink?
Considering the hardware specs on the SGS2, ICS will be eaten easily. Since Samsung has been more than adequate in updating their phones, especially the flagships, I'm very confident that we will be eating Ice Cream Sandwich this fall.

Brilliant, that would be really in keeping with the naming scheme they currently use.
Hint:
Cupcake
Donut
Eclair
Froyo
Gingerbread
Honeycomb
Ice Cream Sandwich
Jelly bean

I should have specified. I ment like a ported version to flash to the GS II compiled from a system dump of a nexus prime. my guess is about 2-3 weeks.
Samsung and Google reschedule the Ice Cream Sandwich media event to Oct. 19 in Hong Kong
that was a headline off android central

Um, Nexus Prime is COMPLETELY different hardware. It's not going to be possible to port a system dump.
Our best hope is going to be ICS hitting the I9100.

Boo....
How does CM plan to do it then? I read somewhere on here he had mentioned working on ICS.
Samsung announces devices to get Android Ice Cream Sandwich
http://news.in.msn.com/technology/article.aspx?cp-documentid=5564559
Ace is not there but s and s2 will get it next year.
Well CM9 is our only hope then
EDIT: 1. This is old
2. S is not in the list, its just a guess by people, official only include Note, S2, and the three tabs
Eh. Nexus one will not get Google's update. Nexus one uses adreno 200. Ace uses the same, and Ace is SAMSUNG. So we'll most probably not be getting it.
There are some devices missing from the list, however, it does not mean that they will not get *this latest OS upgrade

Official(if it even comes) will be touchwizzed, will contain lots of bloatware, and will probably be not much like the AOSP one, so why not hope for CM9?

True dat, bro
I'm seriously thinking of buying the 5" version of the media player BUT I noticed it comes with FROYO?? Has there been any official upgrade OR some kind of stable ROM for it? A simple response and maybe a point in the right direction for the ROM would be AWESOME and much appreciated. THANKS!
I just bought one (USA) and it came with gingerbread.

I don't know where you got that information, but the US 5.0 has Gingerbread, and there is a custom ROM as well in the development section of this forum.

No the international/Europe version came with Froyo 2.2 as did mine when i brought it (Uk) but there is now a official update for Gingerbread by Samsung for this device
the USA version came shipped with Gingerbread from day one
I need advice about which galaxy player to buy? The 4.0 looks nice, but maybe I should wait for the 4.2, or get a 5.0? I'm confused.
Either 4.2 will come ready with gingebread but hasnt got much hardware improvements so theyre equal.
Do you think the 4.2 will get ice cream sandwich?

Yes, if you read the other (new) thread about the 4.2 device, you can see that it will be launched with android 2.3
I got the 5.0 because I already have a 4.3" phone.
The 4.0 has a better sound chipset and replacable battery. The 5.0 has a bigger screen and seems to have slightly more developer attention.

99.99% certain that we don't get it officially, but there is a high possibility that cm10 will find the way to our tab!
but as kilometers4 said we should wait for ics first.
If this is what all the posts in the forum are going to be about once we have ICS, please kill me now...

Agreed.... Just shoot me now......
The rumour is that we get ICS in August 2012 or 15 months after official Google announcement. So if there is a chance to get JB, add another 15 months to the official Google announcement (is gonna happen in few days) and you have the Samsung release date of September 2013.
jb uses same drivers as ics... It's still android 4 it's like froyo and gb... so for sure cyanogenmod and aokp + kangers will release jb for us and samsung can go to h....

Afaik the driver model has not changed from Android 1.0 to 4.0, it's still all linux. 5 years old linux drivers work on new systems.

I am --- on my Nexus 7. Sold my Nook Color and my Galaxy Tab Plus is on Craigslist as I type. Not sure what to do with the GT10.1, though... I still love this tab (and unless the difference between ICS and JB is as big as between HC and ICS, I give two ****s if Samsung gives us the 4.1 update...).

This is because Samsung refuses to release the source code for the camera driver, so you cannot compile it with an alternate kernel. The driver would work for ICS if we had the source code.
Jb has been ripped already according to reports, so we shall see
Are you f'ing kidding me? I knew as soon as I saw the Google io release about jelly bean everyone would start asking this question.
A) how bout waiting for ICS first, then worry about an official update from 4 to 4.1.
B) According to Google it won't be much different, you can do all that 4.1 does with a launcher or a ROM
C). 4.1 will be an easier transition to accomplish whereas 3.5 to 4.0 is a harder undertaking thus the long wait.
D). With the injunction placed on the 10.1 in CA there will be no more galaxy tabs 10.1 for sale in the US anyway assuming Samsung doesn't win an appeal.
E). Its time to upgrade to a new tablet soon, ASUS has some amazing stuff and they are QUAD CORE! Compared to our two.
F). Once we get our cameras working on official ICS who cares anymore??? We will never get 5.0 officially so for me my tab ends at official ICS . CM9 is good now..cm10, cm 11 will suit your needs just the same.....
I am very sure we are gonna get jelly bean on our tab since the drivers for jelly bean and ice cream sandwich are the same, so Samsung only has to do very small things to get jelly bean to our tab. The reason why its taking so long for ice cream sandwich to come to our galaxy tab is that ics is a major revision and lots of drivers need to be updated.

The drivers are the same for Gingerbread, Honeycomb and ICS. There is no new driver model. These are all Linux drivers and the driver model does not change. Since Samsung has not released the Source Code for the Camera driver, and this Camera is not used for any other Tablet there is no Cyanogen camera support for the 10.1 tab.
The only reason there is no official ICS for Galaxy Tab 1 is the presence of Galaxy Tab 2 (with almost identical hardware, but a different camera), which has ICS. Samsung hopes to make some more money on users who don't want to wait and ditch the Tab 1 for the Tab 2.
Sammy will indeed update the tab to jelly bean in the year 2016, stand-by for further announcements. :highfive:
Guys this is Samsung's first flagship tablet....so Sammy 'll lose its already bad update release status completely if it lets down our tab.
With nexus tab given to azus Sammy 's got one less tablet to code for.
" THEN WHY THE F'kin HELL DOES SAMSUNG HOLD BACK UPDATES?????"
Damn frustated man.....

I believe once the JB is officially released the migration from AOKP/CM9 to it would be very smooth except for camera driver which has it's well known issue..
ICS
:good: What I heard lately Samsung announced Galaxy Tab 10.1 ICS upgrade and it's scheduled for July and August '12...
