Zagg and a smooth screen? How did he do it?
I was experimenting today with my zagg invisible shield. I hate the rubbery feel of a brand new zagg....but you can't beat the protection.
So I applied 3 coats of a small amount of Meguiar's Carnauba Wax. I figured, what the hell, I can always return the protector if it harms it.
Well the result is fantastic. After 3 coats, which took 3 minutes, I am very pleasantly surprised. The screen feels smoother than I can every remember it. Also, it seems that the wax OS finger print repellent....so the screen is staying smooth and very clean.
Id recommend any try it out, just be careful to keep the wax and the protector.
The car wax by nature, at least this brand....which is a popular brand, does not leave a greasy coating. I can't even tell there is anything on the screen.
Let me know what you think.
As a side note the EVO 3d screen is tough...just like my scratch free EVO 4G, that I never used a protector with.
I take care of my phones...but yesterday when I was disecting some tissue samples in my lab....another grad student dropped a razor blade on my phone. Didnt harm it....but I felt compelled to get a protector
I've got Zagg and it's a personalchoice for my phone. It works great but I remember the "not so smooth" feeling of it when it was first installed. But now it's smooth already (I use my phone ALOT!) but I'll keep this in mind for future reference.
So it does smooth out over time? Great....put it on today. Does the dots and streaks eventually disappear? You know the imperfections when you look at the screen from an angle?

The solution will cure and should disappear over time.
Why would you wax your phone? They make screen protectors that are just as, if not stronger like xoskins that don't require you to wax your phone.. Is that wax safe touching your face?
Yes it is fine, it does not rub off. It is car wax, the whole concept of car wax would not work if it rub off at a touch, and if it was harmful to the people using the wax to apply it to.
Car wax is used on playground slides, counter tops, etc.
I purchased a zagg....I got it purchased and installed from best buy for 15 dollars. Can't really beat that, considering the price included the install.
You know how the backing is 2 pieces? I have a line where those 2 pieces meet. Couldn't they have just made it one piece? Ugh. I'm annoyed.
Thanks Mr. Myagi, wax onnn, wax offf ...
I'm trying this now. Except i'm using turtle wax ice on the Zagg
Wax works
i tried liquid glass and this problem with the adonit stylus has been solved!! not to mention the benefit of elimination of excessive finger prints on the zagg.
the stylus now glides like butter

Just got the TP2 and looking for the best screen protector. What do you think is the best and why?
I rather like the one it comes with.
If it didn't have that, I probably would have gone with another Martin Fields aka OverlayPlus. They served all my Treos well. The Mogul one was a little disappointing, but I'm hoping it was just a bad run.
huge thread here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=520544
im using and like the dcmugen ones (ebay seller name , dcmugen88 )
just looked from when i posted on here 6 weeks ago , its still in real good condition , only has a few light scratches
Yea I saw the thread, wanted more to get a poll than anything.
Boxwave Crystal Clear is my favorite. Also the Martin Fields. Both not on your list.

+ 1 installed the one from HTC (with the shower steam method) and it was my first ever perfect (no bubbles, hair lines etc) application... been on for 6 weeks and still looks great
Waiting for Wrapsol...saw a YouTube comparison between this and the Zaag...very impressed as it appears to be thinner and virtually a smooth/clean fit....Wrapsol told me they should have one for the VZW TP2 this week.

If I put on a protector that is NOT anti-glare, does it cause it to have more glare in the sun? Because Id rather have more transparency then anti-glare.
the HTC default one do get scratch up rather easily compare to other SP
I've tried a bunch of screen protectors, and my favourite one is the Martin Fields one.
The only problem is that because it is an edge-to-edge screen, I've peeled each and everyone of those screen protectors off, while getting it out of my pocket on the plane. They need to give us more leg room!
Btw, the TP2 is perfect for plane flights =) Beats the on-flight entertainment anyday.
Looking to get a new screen protector and case now >.<
I've tried InvisibleShield and BestSkinsEver...
So far I've used BSE for almost every device I have and they're the best to me.
Waiting on my BSE in the mail that I ordered a few days ago.
The SP that the phone comes with is CRAP!

If you put on BSE (BestSkinsEver) right you can hardly notice that it's their. NO SMUDGES on the screen after a call from your cheeks (BB 8900)! VERY LIGHT finger prints on the screen after scrolling or whatever. (iPod Touch).
Most importantly no dirt around the edges after a while. You know how sometimes you would start seeing dirt or whatever around the edges when using a screen protector.

I was in email communication with BSE but they still do not have a skin for Tilt 2 and they weren't even aware that the tmo version was different than AT&Ts...
Ordered one from bodyguardz, I've never used theirs so will be interested in their quality vs BSE or zagg.

Yes, I was told they had an issue with that and my order had a delay. I should receive it this week.
I'm using the ClearProtector Extended kit. This is the second phone I've used one on. Once on correctly they're very protective and can't be scratched. They're also completely clear. The trick is doing it right, which isn't as hard as it seems, especially if you do it in a room with no dust, such as a bathroom after running the shower to take any dust out of the air.
oy, I can't even make a decision because someone keeps throwing out another brand.
Bodyguards!Bodyguards!Bodyguards! No fingerprints, clear as no screen protector, and way better control over touch! Yes it actually is more precise with Bodyguards on and its just as smooth as without a screen protector! Plus you get to cover your whole phone! Tip: once you install it will look ugly with lots of bubbles- squegee them out with the included card as best you can but within a day every little bubble will be gone. I tried to clean it because I thought it was dirt but luckily they include two sets. There's also a lifetime replacement with $4.95 shipping. By far the best purchase I'VE MADE - the total body coverage makes the phone glossy and sleek.
do the bodyguardz look visible or feel weird (such that you have many different pieces)??
oh no you don't feel it at all. If you do it perfectly there will be no gaps. The covers are stretchable though if you pull hard enough and on a couple corners I did overlap because I kept stretching it but its not noticeable at all. The phone feels a lot better to handle, no longer that cheap plasticky feeling.I love the screen, it feels smooth but there is just enough resistance that it doesn't slip. I finger it a lot with the screen off - it just feels nice to touch lol and I like watching people stare at me when I scratch at it with my nail when Im bored in class or church lol.
Hi all it's me again lol. I wanted to know your guys' recommendations for screen protectors for our wonderful device. I know it's made of gorilla glass and that it's really durable, but I have more of an issue with leaving fingerprints on the screen and not being able to smoothly drag my fingers across the screen and I wanted to know if you guys knew of any screen protectors with more of a matte feel. Thanks!

Personally i don't use anything
If you get the anti-glare ones from Verizon, they definitely help. It gives you a matte look and also takes away some of the "prettiness" of the screen. I bought some because my daughter was making my screen filthy, but ended up taking it off.
I bought some Vizio screen cleaner at Walmart and use it every morning. It's supposed to protect as well as clean, and I've noticed a difference in the amount of smudges everyday.
I use the built in screen protector that came with my otterbox defender. LOVE IT!!!
i got the only matte one they offered in the Verizon store
despite a big ugly gouge at the bottom-left that i could have complained about when the employee put it on it's super awesome
if it takes from the prettiness of the screen, then my eyes are in ruins.
honestly if you've ever applied a slight blur filter to really colorful objects(aka ANIME LIKE), then you'd see it actually does favor
that and, no-1 likes to clean smudges/have their finger get caught when trying to drag across the screen, really annoying, good riddance smudges + glass finger hold
I bought some 3 pack on amazon for $0.69. Seems to work as good as the $10 ones at the store.
I Use ZAGG, Lifetime Guarantee/Warranty. The Only Thing It Costs You For A Replacement Is An Envelope And Stamp. You Can Get One For $24.99 Straight From ZAGG.

+1 To Being Lazy.
I'm on the fence with the whole screen protector thing, too ...
I put a ZAGG on my old HTC HD2 Leo, and had one of the mall kiosk guys put one on my wife's Incredible, but I couldn't get over the change in tactile feel and (what I perceived as) the loss in sharpness.
I dropped my DX2 for the first time last night and thank God it was in a decent case. The phone was unmolested - as was the case (a Yoobao plastic/rubber number that fits over the super extended battery) - but I practically had a coronary. I can only imagine if something had hit the screen on the way down to the concrete ...
Does anyone have personal experience with a screen protector actually protecting the screen from impact? Or do they more or less prevent some of those niggling scratches that inevitably plague the screen over time?

I happened to read the separate thread on ZAGG, which really provided for mixed reviews.
I hate any kind of unnecessary distortion, so I'm a bit reluctant to try another screen protector - especially if the protection provided is minimal.
Someone did mention the Zeinheil Crystal protector, which seems to strike a better balance between scratch protection and clarity preservation. Apparently, these are available in a 3-pack off Amazon for $14.99.
Something to think about, in any case ...

Screen protectors do protect from falls to a certain extent. I'm sure if it feel over 10ft and landed on the screen or a pointy piece of something it would crack.
One time I was running in Home Depot (lol) and my phone flew out of my pocket. It hit the floor and then, I unknowingly kicked it another 10 or so feet. It was screen down the whole time and had not a single scratch. I had one of those cheap Verizon ones on too.
Another time I was skateboarding..my phone fell out of my pocket and landed facedown. Thankfully I bailed in midair, so my board just missed it, but my heel did hit it. Luckily, I'm a hurdler, parkourist, and skateboarder so I landed mostly on my toes but I did lean back onto my heels and my screen was fine. That was without a protector.
Earlier this year, I think I threw my bookbag, and my keys scraped against my Droid's screen, it has a small shallow gash now. My phone was naked..no case no protector.
Just curious as to how many people use a screen protector on their TF. If you don't, how's your screen holding up?
I've had my transformer since black Friday and the screen has not one scratch and I take it to class everyday. I have a case on it too.

I have dogs that like to jump on beds, so I use one just in case. Also I use one so I don't fret about my glass being dirty or when a girl with rings on is playing with it, I will always know I have a perfect glass behind the screen protector. Sadly my screen underneath has funky **** going on like light bleed and a discolored spot

I don't have a screen protector, but I am looking into getting one.
I have a very tiny dot on the border of the glass which I don't like much, just in case.
But the problem is how to apply a screen protector!! on my HD2 with its 4.3" display I had too much difficulty to put a screen protector without leaving dust underneath it, on a 10" display it is impossible....

Biggest tip I can give is to apply the screen protector in the bathroom after running a hot shower to get the steam in the room to make the dust die down. Also, the bit of added moisture in the air helps to let you slide the screen protector around a bit before letting it become settled.

I use clear tape to get dirt out from underneath. But yes bathroom helps although I don't make it steamy. The biggest problem I ran into was aligning the whole thing. One corner would always be off just a tad. I ended up trimming it a bit and I can't even tell.

checking for videos on how to apply a screen protector, I found this video:
where can I find this Dust Isolation sheet ?!? it seems GREAT
I use a screen protector on my TF101 mainly because it reduces glare and the fingerprints come off easier and it feels smoother that the regular gorilla glass
My tf101 was a best buy display model. It didn't have a screen protector then and it doesn't have one now. I sell saltwater livestock for a living and I'm a mechanic on the side, so it frequently comes in contact with dirt, grease, and saltwater. Not a scratch on the screen. I use a targus case to protect the screen when its not in use.
Regarding putting a screen protector on. Its just like window tint fellas. Clean screen as best you can. Mix some hand soap and tap water in a spray bottle. Spray screen protector and device and apply screen protector. Now spray front side of screen protector. Use a credit card or rubber squeegee to squeegee the water out from under the protector. As the water comes out it will drag the dust with it. Keep a towel on hand to dry the device as the water runs out. You might see a little water left under the protector after squeegeeing but it will dry completely over the next few days so don't worry about it.

its just too bad that SGP has no longevity... and by that I mean I can still get a martian fields and skinomi products for my old Touch Pro 2 but cant get a screen protector for either OR my TF101 through SGP/Steinheil...
When it comes to screen protectors for me its SGP/Steinheil then Martian Fields (then pretty much anyone else), but like I said, 8-12 Months later they drop it completely... so unless you stock up on them, be prepared to be screwed to find a different brand if you have an issue (I had my nephew destroy one of mine... I couldnt get my finger under the side but 2min with him and me not looking and it was off and bent in half )

And...you'd be wrong. All those things he did most likely wouldn't scratch regular glass. For the most part keys and coins aren't hard enough. What will scratch glass, gorilla or not, is sand. Sand and grit is everythere. If your hands are dirty its there. It there's lint in your pockets its there. That's the enemy of screens.

Had the transformer since it was first released. After a few months of ownership i tried the SGP ultra fine matte protector as the insane glare was starting to bother me. Had that on for a few months during which the screen nor the protector took any damage as i keep it docked when its not in use. Took it off 3 months ago and since then i've gotten one hairline scratch thats about a cm long, not noticeable unless you knew where it was.
I would say if you keep the thing docked and take care when cleaning the screen its not necessary to have a screen protector. However if you don't use a dock and the tablet is constantly exposed to any number of things that can scratch it, or you're not in the habit of taking good care of your gadgets then a screen protector might not be a bad idea.
Every time i see one of those glass scratch demos i facepalm as i've had quite a few devices that were supposed to be "scratch proof" get scratched by the most mundane things. Its all about angle, material, and force. I can slice a screen and not get a scratch but angle it a bit and give it more pressure and I bet i can get these screens to scratch pretty easily.

I've used ZAGG a few times, once on my zune, once on my evo and again on my evo LTE. The original ZAGG product is one of those soft wet apply films that are a bit grippy compared to a hard plastic film protector. I hated it for my zune and i hated it for my evo because of the grippiness as well as the slight orange peel effect. Over time the zune's wore down enough so that it was smooth and had no orange peel, but that took about a year and only in the spots you swipe around to change tracks and volume. Same thing happened with my evo.
On the Evo LTE I was tempted to try zagg HD, which actually was much better than the original film in that it was a lot more clear and had less grip, but alas it was still a soft wet apply film and i just couldn't get used to it.
If you like the grippy texture then the zagg and similiar soft films last longer than the hard plastics. It seems like a love it or hate it situation for a lot of people, myself included.
I will always go with the hard plastic dry install as those are in my opinion easier to apply because you can hover over the screen and slowly lower it as opposed to sliding it around on liquid and then have to squeegee it all out later. Even if i have to replace it once every few months as opposed to once a year for the zagg, i will still stick with the hard plastics.
I found this old thread about Rain-X on the screen to make the screen finger print resistant. http://www.droidforums.net/forum/motorola-droid/14456-quick-cheap-anti-fingerprint-trick-2.html
Quite curious who else uses this trick. Currently using Steinheil SGP UC on my screen (finger print city) and a cruzerlite tpu case.
Does anyone know if it would ruin the properties of the screen protector and/or the plastic back door?
Just thought I'd share this in the case we feel like going naked
i would also like to know this. i read somewhere that if you put silicone spray on your screen if should have that same effect but i never wanted to try it because well... i don't want to ruin my $700 phone haha
Oh, I hear ya. That's why I wanted to see if any brave souls have tested the waters
i actually just remembered that i still have my og evo laying around so i felt adventurous and sprayed a towel with some rain-x and rubbed it on there a few times and it seems to have done the trick! my finger prints aren't showing up and when they do they are much less visible and the screen feels much smoother. but i heard this wears off after a while but i also found out that car wax's with carnauba wax in it works wonders and doesn't come off as easily. so if you got some rain-x or a car wax that is made from carnauba wax i say go for it! haha
edit: also the finger prints wipe off easier
edit edit: update on the rain-x - ok so, so far its working pretty well but i noticed i gets a little smoother after a while. so after you rub it in and then dry it off its not gonna be all that smooth and actually seem a bit worse but if you keep using it and just keep rubbing your thumb across it for a while and kinda work it in, it seems to get better.
Cool great tip man! I woulda tried on my old phone but I gave it to a family member. Do you know if the Carnauba wax is safe on the plastic back door? I kind of assumed so since it's painted but I don't have any wax to try it.
i assume it probably couldn't hurt to put it on there so if you wanna try go for it. my neighbor is always cleaning his car and such so im gonna pop over there eventually and see if he has any wax to try on my old evo
Sweet deal, think I may pick up some carnauba wax from the store if I have time tomorrow. I'm sure I have some extra glossy plastic to try it on.
Didn't get to reply to this, but I just used some mothers carnauba wax on the steinheill ultra crystal and on the back door of my EVO.
Little to no fingerprints what so ever! No scratches or warping on any of the material, no residue or stickiness. My evo is still smooth as glass and plastic!
Just apply a tiny amount on you index finger and smudge the wax around carefully not to get it in the speaker then buff it in with a microfiber cloth and voila! Instant fingerprint resistance!

I'm not too sure yet. I'll make a post to see how long itasted for me.
I put it on the other day I would assume just like a car it'll last a good couple weeks. Unless, I was too impatient to use my screen right after applying it, it doesn't seem it protects against face oils. But as for texting and touching the screen its pretty repellent. Meaning the only time I really need to wipe my phone is after my face touches it.
The backdoor seems to do a better job but maybe because I don't touch it as often.
Update: its been about a week and its still keeping the resistive properties. Pretty nicely if I might add. I do advise again not to use too much wax and to keep it away from any crevice on the phone (speaker, microphone, etc) it could ruin your device so keep it to the glass and the painted plastic door.

So about 3 weeks and going strong. The one thing is that you may build of dried wax residue on the perimeter of the screen but really simple clean, just lightly brush it off.

I let the Verizon salesman get me to buy their overpriced protectors (3 for $15...) I really don't like it. It's as wide as the screen, but long enough to cover the Verizon logo on top, and the softkeys on the bottom. It has cut outs for the camera and the light sensor.
What I don't like, is that despite the best efforts of the Verizon salesman (and he did try his hardest, there isn't a spec of dust under the cover) the edges don't stick. This is because the phone's glass curves to the edge. This leaves a tiny bit of the protector that isn't stuck down. Not only does this look bad, but it's also going to attract dust and pocket lint to get in there.
Furthermore, the screen protector also detracts from the aesthetics of the phone, it shows finger prints much more than the gorilla glass 2 does, and it adds a very slight color tint.
I think I'm going to remove it and just go without.
If you like Zagg then xtremeguard already has the DNA protectors available. Current sale means they are only 5 bucks a pop. I have used them before and was very pleased.
That is strange I got the Verizon screen protectors and don't have the issue ..however mine isn't edge to edge .. did he give you some type of aftermarket or does it have the droid stamp on it ..?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
The Verizon protectors not covering the entire screen (not edge to edge, only the part that's illuminated) is a deal breaker for me. I'll just keep shopping around.
Also, I have nothing against Zagg. I've used Zagg on two devices and they held up great without any of the (noticeable) orange-peeling effect I've read about. My only big complaint with them is the outrageous price.

I am patiently waiting for sgp steinheil, and a decent sleeve.
screen protector
The ArmorSuit MilitaryShield Screen Protector is the best!
Are screen protectors even necessary? I owned my DROID X for 2 yrs without a screen protector and it looked as good as the day I bought it. That only had Gorilla Glass 1, it looks like Gorilla Glass 2 is supposed to be thinner is all, and I assume the same strength.
I am not for one going to put one on. Besides I love how silky smooth the screen is, and despise others with their sticky rough screen protectors.

Because of the curved edges the display has, I doubt there will be ones that will cover the whole thing, unless they come curved... I don't use screen protectors, but for those that do, that's most likely all you will get.
The more I use the phone, the more I'm thinking about just skipping the screen protector this time around. It seems pretty substantial on its own and the great, smooth feel is something I wouldn't want to lose (along with the clarity of the awesome screen, too).

Do any of you guys that don't have screen protectors on have any scratches yet? I know it is not supposed to scratch but that's not always the case. I currently have the Verizon one on mine.

Like I said above, I'm currently not using a protector and I have been shoving it in/pulling it out of my pockets and even dropped it on a wood floor (screen down) and no nicks or scratches...so far.

I just can't use screen protectors no matter what. Some of them have a haze foggy look to them, others feel a tad sticky, and sometimes I'll have the tiniest dust particle under the glass or just a small bubble around one of the edges. <<<---- Each, and everyone of these drive me nuts! Also the touch never feels the same, or as smooth. I don't know about most of you, but I'm very anal about my phones, and never had any glass damage, or scratches for that matter.
My final word.... GO NAKED!!!!!!

I work in construction sites a lot. And I use my flash light app a lot. I will sometimes lay my phone screen down above the ceiling. There is always metal shavings and chunks of cement up there and I do not have the smallest hint of a scratch on my screen. I have also dropped it on concrete and asphalt, still nothing.
I honestly think it is a sales gimmick.

I have a Gnex right now... went naked with that and it was a mistake. I have 2 or 3 small hairline scratches and I take pretty decent care of my phone. I dislike screen protectors but I dislike scratches even more.
i've had an old LG Xenon (text phone) i had a cheap case on it which i ended up destroying after repeated drops on concrete, I've even cracked the screen a little on the side with the case and screen protector on, but after all of that i went naked anticipating an upgrade, but i've dropped it off a 2nd story porch straight down onto concrete with screen face down and not even a scratch. I think that the screen itself will survive alot of impacts, it's the rest of the body (as well as the corner of the screen) that can't take the damage.
I'm going no screen protector, but will put a case on it once the one i want comes out. I dont believe it makes enough of a difference to counter the cons of it.
Hey people, just wanted to do my part and contribute.
Xtremeguards https://www.xtremeguard.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=droid+dna has the Droid DNA wet apply screen protector on sale for $1.50 (originally $15) with free shipping. Just enter in code "70OFF1" at checkout. I bought 3 of them. Hope this helps someone. I haven't personally had experience with xtremeguards but I've used xoskins, another wet apply option and it worked pretty well.
