What is your "default engine" set to in Settings > Voice input & output > Text-to-speech settings?
Edit: Actually, what app are you using TTS in? Apps like Google Translate will offload the TTS to Google's servers which gives a realistic voice.

Google navigation. My default is pico tts.

Pico sucks... Get SVOX from the market and pony up a few bucks for one of the voices. Well worth it.

Ah, OK. What you were probably doing in CM6 was running Google navigation without text to speech, which means your navigation was using pre-recorded generic messages like "turn left" instead of saying street names out loud like "turn left on to main street". The pre-recorded messages were of a person actually saying it so it sounds good. Pico TTS is tolerable but definitely not human sounding.
Just to clarify, Pico TSS had to be manually downloaded in CM6 but is now included in CM7, hence why you have it.
If you have S-OFF you can probably try to uninstall it manually. I'm not sure if it's enough to just remove it from the app folder or if you need to do anything else, but it should be possible. If you don't have S-OFF you can reflash a modified CM7 zip with Pico removed.
Alternatively, like tedkunich said, you can get another text to speech (though there aren't any good ones that are free) with a better sounding voice.

Svox works awesome thanks everyone.

I'm using the new music with no problems. I had to uninstall the old one and reboot after install. Google plus works but I don't have a widget like I had with the last version

My only gripe with Google+ is I still haven't discovered any way to change your profile picture without logging into the website.
Profile > touch your photo
Did they fix the overplay issue where streaming music would sometimes repeat instead of moving onto the next track?

music 4.0
i uninstalled the current music (i uninstalled the orig photon music and i was running google music ever since day one) and pasted music 4.0 in system/apps did a reboot and it runs great.
although i do not see to much difference between V3 and 4.0, but it looks like it runs smooth and there are a few settings added (but then again i didnt play much with the settings in v3)
it also has a smaller widget so i added a shortcut to the app next to the widget. its whatev i guess.

I've been running Music V4 for a couple of days and I haven't experienced the overplay of songs(songs repeat after finishing current time exceeds total time) This used to happen at least 5+ times a day so I'm thinking they fixed it in this latest version. Bravo Google.

[Q] Problem with Navigation i777 Cognition X2

I apologize beforehand for my noobiness. I wanted to post my question on the development forum but I wasn't allowed to because I'm completely new to xda. I tried to search the Cognition forum but I came up empty. I took a few hours to try to find the answer myself but to no avail.
I successfully rooted and installed Cognition X2 and modified it so that messages don't appear in the call log. When I use Navigation, it starts out fine, but after a few minutes, it starts saying, "XML version 1.0, [blah blah] h t t p:// [blah blah]," repeating itself for several minutes. Then it'll be back to normal for a few minutes before it starts spewing that whatever-it-is. I'm sorry I cant recall all of what it says but please don't hold it against me as I am driving when it happens.
Is there a not-too-complicated fix for this? Thanks!
edit: I should add that this doesn't happen when I just test it at home, i.e., I'm not actually moving or progressing through the turn-by-turn
I'm new to android as well, maybe wiping everything and reinstalling would help?
Are you using the Samsung speech engine? I have read that switching to pico or another 3rd party engine like svox fixes this problem... I use svox and have not run into this issue...

I'm pretty sure I've been using the preloaded Tico engine. Can't check right now because I don't have the phone around. If not, I'll try the switch.
There are two speech engines preloaded out of the box. Samsung and Pico. If I remember correctly, Samsung was the default when I first booted up... Give pico or Svox a shot and let us know how it goes..

Just tried it out and it seems to have gotten rid of the problem. Thanks. But damn, Pico sounds terrible! Guess I'll look into Svox. I wonder why I didn't see any threads about this when I searched. I was assuming it was an issue with the custom rom so I was probably being too specific with my search.
Also, forgive me for being lazy, but how do I do that signature thing that lists the devices I've used?
Yea, Pico sucks as far as the voice goes. Stephen Hawking sounds like Pavarotti compared to it...LOL. Avocados has some cheap voices that sound more natural...

Finally! Something that works over bluetooth. It's a bit wonky (i.e. clumsy UI) but once you get it configured, it gets the job done. Stupid Vlingo.
Might want to check out Skyvi. I haven't messed with it much, but it looks like it's got pretty good voice command potential.

OK success!
First used "AnTek App Manager" to freeze Valingo from constantly starting up.
Installed "Choice Dialer + free"
My voice dialing works great. Starts up at a push of my BT button. Its starts up quickly and every time. unlike valingo.
The voice recognitions are as good or better than vlingo.
Thanks for everyones help.
BY BY VLINGO!
Unbelievable that Google no longer has a native Voice Command. How could Google build ICS without such a necessity.
Or are their VCs on some other ICS ROMs? I love Mystic's Glory, but I need BT voice command!
Speaktoit works well as a personal assistant. For voice dialing the best comprehension I've gotten is from vlingo labs beta. Which is basically a wip svoice

[GUIDE] Stock Alternatives!(:

How to “Beat the Stock”
Written by: ilxaot
Hey! Welcome to my guide, and thanks for clicking on it. If this helps you in any way or form, please click the “Thanks” button.
I need your help! I need your recommendations so I can add them in after testing, this guide is incomplete and should have more options. Also, I need more sections. If there's another set of apps that you want me to review for our phone, just let me know. I'll gladly update this guide accordingly!

Well, in the end, regardless of what some of us may think our L9’s are, they are phones. I know, surprising right? Our phone has a good looking stock dialer, but MAN IT’S SLOW. So I’ve created a list of replacements that operate perfectly on our device.
exDialer: This is my personal choice, and definitely the one I recommend the most. The UI is elegant, and it’s incorporated into an extremely efficient combination of Dialer/Contacts setup. The sheer ability to switch from Dialer to Contacts smoothly without lag is an enigma in itself. If that wasn’t enough, there’s a decent amount of themes available on the Play Store to further mix it to your liking. The ICS theme is my personal favorite.
Dialer One: This is a pretty good app for those who want a fast dialer for their phone, and don’t mind not having a Contacts app to match it. This doesn’t work for me, since I need Contacts integrated into my Dialer like exDialer does. But this app does the job for those that need a dialer app by itself.
Contacts
Contacts+: Same as the app above, it’s just a shortcut to take you straight to the Contacts portion of the app. Recommended to those who want a closely integrated feel of Messaging, Dialing, and Contact…ing.
Messaging
Textra: Download this app NOW. This is seriously, as of now, the best texting app for Android. Ever heard of ChompSMS? It supports native Emoji, Group SMS with iPhonies, doable customization, and an absolutely SICK notification feature. Seriously, download this app, next text you get, click the notification and watch the magic.
Browser
Opera Browser: Okay, so this has been updated consistently for about the last year or so, and I’m LOVING it. It has a ton of options, including cloud compression on a low connection so it speeds up YOUR browsing speeds. It has the usual problems, notably lag when loading multiple images and sometimes not registering your touches when you click links. It’s Chromium based, which means it is similar to Chrome. Obviously.
Chrome: Brought to my attention by @peoplegetpeople, it's a good browser and it is useful if using Chrome on your computer and wish to sync bookmarks/history!
Must-Have Apps
Ttorrent: This app is for torrenting and "sharing" (uh-huh...) files.

Updated with some relevant "Must-Have Apps."
The aviate launcher looks pretty nice. Unfortunately I need an invite code.
Another keyboard to check out is Google's stock keyboard. You can get it from the play store. Uses a lot less memory than kii and quite a bit smoother.

I use Now Playing for music - it's got a cards-esque UI, plays really well, beautiful widgets. And it works with ViPERFX, which is good.
Also, I've found I really like Sliding Messaging. It was buggy, sometimes it doesn't work well with MMS, but it's themeable and the new Slideover feature is great.
