depends on what you have already on your phone... is TiBu the only app you've downloaded from the market? then you may want 'all your apps with data', i think the missing apps option is if you can't find or forget some apps from before

As long as you don't restore any system apps, you're fine.
It also depends on what ROM you're restoring from and too. If you're switching between a TW ROM and CM7/MIUI or such, then restoring data is likely to lead to force closes. It can work if you get the settings right in TiBU, but you have to be cautious.

Normally when I do a backup using Titanium Backup, I use the batch function and select "Backup all user apps + system data." Then, after I flash my new ROM, I'll do "Restore missing apps + all system data."
My concern is that if I'm making a backup from a ROM that contains bloatware, then flashing to a debloated ROM, wouldn't restoring all missing apps cause that bloatware to be installed again?
What about restoring system data? Would that reinstall anything that I wouldn't want?
Is the best thing to do is go through each item individually and select what you'd want to restore? That seems very time consuming, and I'd hate to overlook anything.
I guess I'm mainly interested in what most people do when they backup and restore apps and system data when flashing from one ROM to another.
Thanks!
When backing up and restoring, you can choose which apps/system data you want to backup. And if you accidentally do backup one, you can just select it and delete the backup.
When doing a restore, you must make sure you are restoring things that will work with the Rom.
Like for example, system data made for a froyo Rom, could mess up a gingerbread Rom and vice versa. Just depends on what you are trying to restore. For system data, the only main thing I restore (that I remember) is the sense launcher settings, which restores how my screen was set up.

I have this same question. What is the best practice? It seems there is no need to backup system data... only apps + data, is that correct?
i always back up and restore system data that shows up with green text instead of red. these are consider to have "useful" data. theres around 22 or 23 if i remember right. i would start with these and then de select the ones you dont want. for examples i dont use the stocks app so i dont back up stock data. otherwise back up all user apps and data these dont include any of the stock or bloatware apps that come pre installed so its best to keep them all.
Here is what I do.
Open Titanium and Click "menu" on your phone and then select "batch". You will then see a list of different scenarios, look for "backup all user apps" and select "run" . This will back up all your apps. If you want to do system data too select "backup all apps and system data". I always backup up apps and data. Once you select either of these it will show you a list with everything it is backing up. If you don't want something backed up for whatever reason, just uncheck it in the list.
Now if you flash a custom rom that wipes everything and you want to restore all your apps, open up titanium and click "menu" then "batch" and scroll down to the "restore" section. I always do "restore missing apps with data".
Just remember when you make a selection (click run), nothing happens right away, you always go to a screen that shows you what is being backed up or restored. So don't be afraid to click "run"
I have never used titanium backup and would like to confirm something. If you backup system settings, you can restore the all the shortcuts, apps, folders, etc. on the screens? Also, if using titanium backup, I should probably disable the automatic download by Google of all my installed programs, right, when you first reboot the new ROM? Thanks and sorry if I am asking something obvious. I am thinking of upgrading to das bafm 1.7 from 1.6.3.

Hello,
After changing Rom from X to Y. Do I restore all user apps+system data? only user apps?
Please clarify.
Thanks
Oren
Do not restore system data if changing firmware .

Titanium Restore
So how do I restore the settings? My desktop, all the configurations?
What exactly should I restore?
It's never a good idea to restore apps AND DATA, just apps, if you also restore data you will likely get FC's particulary if your moving to a new ROM or new formware.

ok i have a question for you..when i go to restore apps through TB i always do the first one..restoring missing apps with data....is that good or bad? and didnt TB had an option were you could only restore apps with out the data? or im i being mistaken
Restore "apps with data" isn't the same as "system data," AFAIK.
I've always restored apps with data without incident.
I always restore apps with data but never system data just to be sure. I use Go launcher EX and all my desktops end up exactly as they were (exept for some widgets, but that's unimportant). The only thing i have to do is reconfigure some of the settings, basic things like ringtone, disable haptic feedback, etc...
Hi.
I backed up all my user apps with titanium and now after flashing cm9 I don't see any apps in the batch restore menu (says 0 apps to restore).
The backup folder is configured to the right one and the folder have all my backed up apps.
Tried: reflashing, wiping, reinstalling TB, rebooting.
What can I do to see and be able to restore my apps?
Thanks in advance
Have you changed the backup location to point to where you have backed up all of your apps through Titanium? That could be why it is displaying that there are no apps that may be restored.

As you did all the above you surely checked that TB's filter function does not prevent your applications from showing up, did you?

Is there any other app to restore te titanium backed up data....?
Make sure "Normal apps (apk)" is checked in Titanium Backup app
In order for the backup to properly be restored after OS upgrade/update, you would need to have the apk files. The apk files are backed up by Titanium Backup as apk.gz files ONLY if the Menu -> Preferences -> Normal apps (apk) is checked before you back up the apps. Otherwise, it would only backup the app properties and data and not the apk files.
So this is how it works:
Scenario 1: Menu -> Preferences -> Normal apps (apk) is checked
With Titanium Backup, you can restore the APP + DATA.
Scenario 2: Menu -> Preferences -> Normal apps (apk) is unchecked
With Titanium Backup, you can restore only the DATA, but you can do so only after you install the app either from playstore or manually (in case if you have the .apk file).
Hope this helps.
I am new with this and I have one question.
Is it possible to back up wifi passwords, email accounts and all those stuff, before flashing a custom ROM so I can just restore them after flashing.

Yes. Root your phone and use a backup app like Titanium Backup. Then save the folder somewhere, flash the new custom rom, restore the folder and then everything else you want with the app.

No, just copy the TitaniumBackup folder with all the backups somewhere that won't get lost.
Also, when you restore after installing another rom, DO NOT restore the system data. Only the user stuff. Or at least not all the system data. For example wifi points are ok, but don't restore any system apps.

Is it a problem for you to be a little more specific, please.
When I look at "Restore" section of Titanium, I don't see how can I restore only wifi points or email accounts.

Press the option button on the main page from TB.and scroll down to:
Backup data to XML....
Than you can choose to back up your WiFi,email and call log.

You can restore user app and data without any problem but if you want to restore system data then always use xml (TitaniumBackup will suggest you for that). If you will not use xml for system data then after restoring data your phone will crash and a lot of services will not work and terminate itself.
and finally you will have to reflash again.

Hi All
I decided to flash meanbean 1.03. Everything flashed ok and restored with titanium backup. I didnt reboot after titanium restore and everything was working fine. I rebooted and got a bootloop.
How can I find out what caused the bootloop?
TIA
Al
Idk how you could find what went wrong but it probably has top do with Titanium resorting some sort of system data from a different room ROM that conflicts with mean bean. Do you do a "Restore all Apps and system data" in Titanium?

I restored all apps with data. I think that caused the problem. I recreated my starting point then restored missing apps with data and that solved the problem.

I normally wouldnt disagree with you but I know for sure I hit "restore all apps with data" and not "restore missing apps + all system data".

Remember though all apps with data is every app you backed up including system apps. But either way you're good now!
