Hi all!
I have two Samsung Galaxy Ace with stock 2.3.3 rom.
When i try to connect to my Cisco router with DHCP i have a strange problem..
If i have only 1 device connect to my Cisco router it's all ok, but if i try to connect 2 or more galaxy ace with my router all sga have the same ip address.
The only solution that i have found it's to not use the DHCP but only static ip.
Unfortunately i must use the DHCP because this is a public router for all my clients. So there is any solution? Or i must wait the 2.3.4 rom for a solution?

Well, i have to use the DHCP and the router can't receive the MAC address.
On my cisco router i found a strange MAC address for every Galaxy Ace i have connected.
Normal MAC (XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX) - Mac address of my galaxy ace (XX:XX)
And all galaxy ace have the same MAC Address.. so i think that there is a problem with the MAC address module of the new version of android.
Some routers cant cope with more than X number of devices on wireless. Disconnect your laptop/ps3 and try? Hope i helped

I have Three Galaxay Ace Gt-S5830D...
ALL 3 have
Android 2.3.4 with
Gingerbread.DTLKI4
each has different Mac example> not mine. B00:C4:F4:C8:77, B00:C4:F4:C8:44,etc
My rogers supplied SMC wireless router shows in the logs that when 1 connects it is DHCP 192.168.0.190....
the next phone mac shows NonDHCP 192.168.0.190...
and the third shows NonDHCP 192.168.0.190
apparently the 192.168.0.190 must be a preprogramed static IP on the phone model ACE
I cannot find anywhere on the phones to change DHCP or STATIC so here I'am stuck with musical chairs type internet,and application use
SO if anyone could guide me in a way to do that It would be triple appreciated...by me, my wife , my son...

Where to set "Use static IP" with Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that comes with Android 3?
I believe older android devices had that option in settings->Wifi Settings->advance->Checkbox for "Use Static IP". I no more see it with Android 3 in Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. Can someone help?

i just cancelled the password of the AP,tried connecting again,then i saw the option of setting static IP.
it's not the best solution though...
How about VPN setup support? I use one of the VPN services to access the likes of HULU or BBC. Will I be able to do it on Android 3.x?

Yes, the usual VPN settings section is there, with the same options as on my Nexus One:
PPTP
L2TP
L2TP/IPSec PSK
L2TP/IPSec CRT
Will I be forced to enter VPN password every time I want to connect or will "it" remember?
Hi to you all. I picked up the tab 10.1 today and I need to allocate a static address to this device. iAndroidFan posted a workaround of some kind but I can't replicate it. Can someone possibly post a step by step instruction to perform this simple(?) task.

Go to Wifi setting and where you connected to the address. Press and hold your network...modify and choose satatic ip

Getting closer! Thanks to the previous 2 posters. I can now access the menu and change IP to static, set DNS etc but I can't save these changes. When I hit <save> it simply reverts to DHCP.
What am I doing wrong here?

It sounds to me like you're hitting a bug...
maybe someone with the same device/release can perform a similar test
Setting a static IP...Galaxy Tab 10.1 (P7510UEKF3)...Android 3.1 Kernel 2.6.36.3..
Try going to Settings\Wi Fi Settings\, wait util you network shows up, long press it until you get a new option to Modify Config (be patient)...scroll down (this is what got me banging my head for two days) ans change settings to static
or Google Xoom forums and in that search for 5382 :how to manually assign ip address)

Did you ever get a response to this or ever figure it out?! I am having major issues with intermittent wifi connection in my house. It doesn't seem to affect the tablet elsewhere. (Though, I've only had this tablet for 3 days!)
it is extremely frustrating to have this intermittent connection problem with wifi.

I got a Tab 10.1 Wifi about 3 weeks ago and have been struggling with the DHCP problem. I tried some moving around some DHCP and Wifi based settings but nothing has worked. I believe this problem is quite common where the tablet gets stuck in Obtaining new IP address
I'm surprised Samsung hasn't released a fix for it this long. Does anybody have any solid fixes that'll work?

Maybe you have a faulty WiFi Radio
no problem with mine...
This is the first time I've heard of the "infamous DHCP problem." I haven't had any problem obtaining an IP address via DHCP on any of a handful of WiFi networks (open and private) or through tethering to my phone.

I hadn't heard of this problem for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 either until now. The steve-shaffer.com article seems to indicate an older version of the Galaxy Tab as it says its running Android 2.2.
I haven't experienced this problem with my GT. Are many folks with GT 10.1 running Honeycomb experiencing this problem?

Same here... I have yet to hear of any "infamous" problem with the Tab 10.1
Wifi works fine for me.
The articles above are talking about the 7" Tabs - Android 2.x, completely different hardware.

i have an issue with my wifi connection, but only in one specific place.
Here goes: I can connect and use wifi everywhere(without any problem), but not at my friends house. Wifi connects without a problem, but after that i cannot use it (can't download from market, can't surf, etc.). It says there is an internet connection failure, altough i'm still connected.
I know for sure there isn't a problem with routers, modems, networks, etc. coz i setup his network myself (exactly the same as al the other networks i use) So in this there cannot be a problem. My friend can connect his iphone4, my wife can with S+, even a guy with an ACE can connect and use, except for me and my ACE.
Already reset router, modem and phone (even other firmware), but still nothing!
Hope somebody can help with this, coz i'm really bugged out on this one.

Check if u have a WPA protection.. My ACE doesnt work with Wifi with WPA pwd..

Try this:
Go to Wifi Settings, select the hotspot you are connecting to, forget the connection, restart ACE, connect to the hotspot again by entering the password

Hmm, strange i can't download either. Nothing, not even textdocuments always get message "download failed".
Try to find out from this other Ace which modem he has installed. Check yours as well. If they are different, it can be a clue...

Nope, already tried this like 100 times, but thnx.
Gonna try a diffrent way now. Trying it with some tweaks in build.prop, a tweakscript, implemend a dns-server file and gonna mess around with wep/wpa again.
Hope this will workout.

Check on router setting the ip address your phone is using is not bind to another device,s mac address this is on the router settings something like ip & Mab binding.
It could be the ip you are trying to use alocated for use by another device only.
However u will be able to connect to the router it will show in the router you phone is connected and alsoshow in wifi on the phone you are connected but you will NOT be able to connect to the internet.

Question: If my phones ip-adress is indeed the problem, is it possible to change it without any problem? Or should i delete the binded ip at the router?

You can set another ip address manually for phone first find out what routers ip address is
normally 192.168.1.1 is default for lots of routers then see router has DHCP
enabled this means router issues ips to devices. if it is enabled the leave your phone as is and check on the router under ip & Mac binding see if it is enabled UNanble u can always put it back
even better see on router what ip your phone is using then checxk in ip & mac binding that it is not assigned to another device for use. if it is u can delete that binding.
binding means you give a certain device's mac address a certain ip so only that device can you that ip
for example say your phones mac adress is 12:34:56:78:90:00 and you assign or give it ip adress 192.168.1 10 then in theory only your phone can use this ip. THIS not always the case depends on what make router. Whilst we are at that what is your router model.

I have weird behavior! I have 4 SGS2s with OFFICIAL 4.0.3 release. 3 of them are OK, the fourth I had to force a static 192.168.0.x/24 address and DOESN'T CONNECT! And I have 5 other wireless devices (laptops and net tops) connected and working!!!
Net tools app shows me unbelievable results like wrong routes and 0.0.0.0 gateway!

Sounds more like your router isn't able to give it the IP Address its wanting.

Is the DC server that has the DHCP to release addresses. The IP address IS released, but the SGS2 doesn't get the default gateway. Funny is: a browser on a PC can access the phone's Kies Air.
And: the server DHCP can't give the IP address JUST to THAT phone?

Im a proudly owner of a S3 and a GNexus and I have some problems regarding Wi-Fi, I know that this is not an S3 problem but its and android problem but perhaps someone can help me in here..
the thing is, I have two routers in my house, one is the master one for cable/internet company and the other is and range extender to expand the signal of the wireless lan....
every morning, when I wake up, if I go to the floor where is the first router both my S3 and Gnexus connect successfully to the wireless network and evevyrthing works fine....however if I go to the floor where the bridge/extender is located, both phones detects the wireless network, however can't connect to it, on wireless settings says...Obtaining ip address...and stays there for ages...and nothing...cant connect...for me to connect to the bridge, I have to restart the bridge and both phones connect immediately...
please any ideas??

Is it password protected? If so try making it 'open' or change the encryption type.

yes the network is password protected...I changed the encryption type for the WPA not the WPA2 and the problem still persists...
the thing that kills my brains is that, to connect to the bridge I must restart the the access point every morning,....

Are you sure the second device extends the main access point and not just create a new WLAN?
Have you updated the firmware of both devices?
What devices do you have?
Am I understanding correctly that your laptop does work even though both Android devices don't (before you reboot the extender)?
Nope...its not creating another wireless lan... it extends the main plan correctly cause my laptop connects perfectly to the Wi-Fi from the extender even prior to the restart of the extender....
The devices are...main router from the ISP- Thomson
Range extender- tp link 701nd

Both have latest firmware? Might be a bug in the WiFi driver of the AP/ROUTER... or it's in Android.... you will need to test by trial and error I guess...

Dynamic would be the friendliest to work with... you could try if it's a DHCP issue by setting a fixed IP when the problem occurs, but I don't think it is.
This is not a problem with the phone(s)....is with the router config. Contact the manufacturer for further assistance...

If you got a router and a range extender, there's nothing you need to fiddle with because the range extender will just Relay DHCP requests between client and master router.
Two routers* pushing out IP addresses is a no go, there will be a conflict in your scenario, and all range extenders will of course take this into account.
If you had two "real" routers*, it would still be possible to set everything up, although then there's a lot to take into account.
* Router is a inaccurate term used for the consumer grade combination devices. They're in fact a router, a switch, and a wireless access point bundled in a neat package. Sometimes with a xDSL modem or something on the external interface of the router.
Try setting the IP to static and more important, try giving it a default gateway to the routers IP. That should make it easy for your phone to directly look for the gateway it is looking for.

I have three routers, one main, one extender, one repeater (creating a whole new network for other building). Both main and repeater are the same network. All is config as per DD-WRT documentation. All three have latest DD-WRT.
After trying many things, all I can say is the (or mine at least) S3 always has trouble when many APs are nearby. I don't use VOIP because of that (it could disconnect at any time).
Next step on my list is to have 3 different SSIDs (only two now) and try using tasker to debounce the wifi switching (if that is even possible).
