I have installed FreeXperia Recovery through the flashtool. I'd like to start using the custom kernals but these seem to require Z's XRecovery .3. How can I go from one to the other without starting from scratch?
Thanks!

I think you have this mixed up. You can use Freexperia recovery to flash custom roms & custom kernels. It's Xrecovery 1.0 that has issues flashing some zip files but only because most cooks still use the edify scripts that's not compatible with 1.0.

You can flash zkernel or goros kernel with either freexperia recovery or v0.3
There's 3 different kinds of xrec:
- v0.3
- FreeXperia recovery
- Zs new Recovery 1.0.0 which does not use edify scripts but rather amend scripts that's why most of the zip files won't flash using it.

Hehehehehe that and the locations are different. v0.3 is at /system/bin while FreeXperia Recovery is at /system/recovery. Other than that freexperia recovery works exactly the same as v0.3.
And I made a mistake on my previous post. V0.3 & Freexperia uses Amend scripts while Zs v1.0.0 uses Edify scripts not the other way around as I previously posted.

1.0 isn't recommended as it has removed support for amend scripting which most packages uses. While 0.3 supports both scripting method, so its better but not better than 1.0 since it doesn't support dual booting if I'm not mistaken. But XDA VS 0.3 = No differences apart if what Lockon Stratos has mentioned.

I wanted to ask the question in villain roms thread but was not able to.
Anyway I have just installed the 2.4.2 rom and noticed that the cwm app which I had before is no longer there.
Is this normal?
I was using another custom rom, then used the cwm app to boot into recovery, wiped partition, cache etc before installing the villain rom.
I can still access the cwm by holding vol up, home and power, but liked being able to boot into recovery from within the phone.
I want to know if I can get the app back, and if it's normal for the villain rom to have removed it.
Thanks
You may not be allowed to post there yet, but you can search there...

Thanks, I failed the first rule in forums, search before asking sorry
Just one more question on this link with the cwm apk http://forum.xda-developers.com/misc.php?do=showattachments&t=1198334
There are two, cwm 2.00 and cwmmanager which one do I use?
No problem
Currently not using Villain, but 99.99% sure I used the cwm 2.00 apk.
Edit 100% sure now - the first link in post #813 on said thread was what I used, that's the cwm 2.00 apk.
Hi,
I didn't want to open a new thread for this,
so I'm using this thread...
Is it possible to install CWM application by taking the CMWManager.apk from a system already having it (different system having a kernel with CWM) and copying it to the system/app folder ...?
I mean, if I install a kernel with CWM (like CF-Root), copy the CWMManager.apk to my SD card, and then copy it back to any other ROM I install in the future, with any kernel, will I have the CWM app in my new system?
Will it work...?

Yes as long as you have a version of ClockworkMod recovery that is supported by the app, aka almost every sgs2 kernel apart from the CM/aosp kernels which use rom manager.

I can confirm this, I have the cwm app running on three devices, all running different software. But because I have clockwork recovery on all 3 devices, the app works fine.
And it does still work with my sgs2 running CM7.
EDIT: Its the tweakmanager app that is dependant on cf-root I think.

Interesting, i didn't think it would work so well, it's mainly that we can't use rom manager on kernels with CWM based of chainfires version of it, rather than a "stock" cwm version

I might be wrong, but I think that might be because rom manager uses a 'fake flash'.
Currently rom manager sees the backups I've made using the cwm app, and vice versa.

Nope, you need scripting to flash a whole rom, and that's what makes a zip flushable, the bloody annoying and overly complex edifying scripting.
The tar is just a zimage inside a file!

If your using doomlords kernel. You should try this one. Just flash it from recovery, then wipe dalvik cache:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17060763&postcount=404
If your using stock kernel. Use the original. And just follow the same instructions thats on the dalvik2cache thread.
I would like to hear peoples comments on what they like and don't like. What they would like to see removed. Or added in future versions.
I'm thinking of removing the theme. leaving it as stock. And having themes as options extra's. Maybe people can post there own community generated themes too
Well i'd try it but..
Are there any BIGGGGGGGG difference between the 4.0.A.368? I like DOOMkernels BOOTLogo too,its cute Is it still there?
Another few Q's,is Android Maket there? Can i use the GOLauncher with the ROM too ? TYYY

If your Optimus has a new screen (purchased the phone in or after August 2011) you need to use Xionia CWMA v1.2518.6 recovery.

Xionia Clockwork (CWMA v1.2518.6)
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about this will chime-in, but it seems if you use Xionia recovery, you have to use a ROM with a Xiona kernel.
Using a ClockworkMod or ClockworkMod-based recovery is highly recommended. The semi-official IHO Recovery for the VM670 is currently at version 4.0.1.4.3. The aospCMod 3.0.2.8 and stock CWM 3.2.0.1 recoveries appear to work properly for most people as well. Those with newer (purchased in or after August 2011) or refurbished phones should use Xionia CWMA 1.2518.6 to avoid a potential black screen. Xionia recoveries sometimes create problems so it is only recommended if you will be flashing a build with Xionia kernel built in.

I had the exact problem earlier this week after installing a custom kernel. There is a way to reinstall xrecovery without using flashtool. It basically involves moving the files from xrecovery.zip to the correct system/ files.
Go into the development forum and look for the xrecovery thread. Someone has upload the correct files on the last couple of pages bin.zip and xbin.zip. You simply move(overwrite) the two file contained in bin.zip to the system/bin folder...then move(overwrite) the two files contained in xbin.zip to the system/xbin folder..
Thanks it worked =)

Kernels can only be flashed from a PC with flashtool, WiFi fix zips are installed with xrecovery. Both kernel and WiFi fix must be matching pair.
From my XPERIA X10S v8.2 on kCernel @ 1.19ghz
Kernels released these days are ftf files... For flashing with flash tool... But if you have an old version, it could be a zip file. I had dk v6 zip file earlier. Try to download latest files. Also flash kernel first, then the ROM, then addons.., but do switch phone on before installing WiFi modules in any case.
