If your Optimus has a new screen (purchased the phone in or after August 2011) you need to use Xionia CWMA v1.2518.6 recovery.
I Tried Rom Manager but the Screen goes All Black, No Recovery!!!

Xionia Clockwork (CWMA v1.2518.6)
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about this will chime-in, but it seems if you use Xionia recovery, you have to use a ROM with a Xiona kernel.
Using a ClockworkMod or ClockworkMod-based recovery is highly recommended. The semi-official IHO Recovery for the VM670 is currently at version 4.0.1.4.3. The aospCMod 3.0.2.8 and stock CWM 3.2.0.1 recoveries appear to work properly for most people as well. Those with newer (purchased in or after August 2011) or refurbished phones should use Xionia CWMA 1.2518.6 to avoid a potential black screen. Xionia recoveries sometimes create problems so it is only recommended if you will be flashing a build with Xionia kernel built in.

which kernel are you trying to install?
there is a new kernel, that you can flash through recovery, all the older kernels out there must be pushed through ADB.

Nope. Just install and go! As a heads up: It's usually preferable to make a backup using ClockworkMod Recovery/ROM Manager before installing anything.
Well I have a backup of my stock ROM already. Should I let it back up my custom ROM as well? Will that erase the stock backup?

yeah you should prob take a backup of your current setup. the whole idea is that anytime you install something, you should have a backup in case the install goes bad (rarely does though). having a backup of your stock ROM is fine in a last resort kinda way. but i'm sure you'd rather restore right back to your custom ROM should something happen.
I need clockwork installed instead of Amon-Ra. Can I just flash CWM over AR, or do I have to flash back to stock, root etc...
Thanks.

Flash whatever recovery you need from here. You can flash CWM from your amon-ra. Read the thread.
Oh my God!!! Whatever you do don't flash the clockwork from inside amon!!!!!!!!! You will **** everything up

Easy way is to just download the free rom manager app and flash it from there. First option in the app. Or put the PC36100.zip from the clockwork mod thread on the root or your SD. Then power down your phone and hold volume down+power button and it will get you into the bootloader it will scan automaticly foe the file and it will ask you to update. Hit yes and then it will ask you to reboot. Hit yyes and you will have clockwork mod

You can flash cwm over amonra. The above quoted thread contains flashable zips of the recoveries. This is the best method to switch recoveries. I have changed it 2 or 3 times and have faced no problem. The zips are unsigned so you will have to disable signature verification before flashing. Using rom manager has caused bricking in many users.

There are 2 safe methods to flash ClockworkMod:
1) using adb method and flash .img file
2) download from the market Rom Manager, install, open it and choose "Flash ClockworkMod recovery", it will auto download cwm and flash it.

Bottom of my scroll is Hauwei...anyways, thanks all for your help, I found it finally following maybe 50 links, one worked - 99% of them though pointed to "megaupload" which doesn't work.
Now running CM7 AOSP variant, yay.
I wanted to ask the question in villain roms thread but was not able to.
Anyway I have just installed the 2.4.2 rom and noticed that the cwm app which I had before is no longer there.
Is this normal?
I was using another custom rom, then used the cwm app to boot into recovery, wiped partition, cache etc before installing the villain rom.
I can still access the cwm by holding vol up, home and power, but liked being able to boot into recovery from within the phone.
I want to know if I can get the app back, and if it's normal for the villain rom to have removed it.
Thanks

Just one more question on this link with the cwm apk http://forum.xda-developers.com/misc.php?do=showattachments&t=1198334

Edit 100% sure now - the first link in post #813 on said thread was what I used, that's the cwm 2.00 apk.

Is it possible to install CWM application by taking the CMWManager.apk from a system already having it (different system having a kernel with CWM) and copying it to the system/app folder ...?
I mean, if I install a kernel with CWM (like CF-Root), copy the CWMManager.apk to my SD card, and then copy it back to any other ROM I install in the future, with any kernel, will I have the CWM app in my new system?
Will it work...?

Yes as long as you have a version of ClockworkMod recovery that is supported by the app, aka almost every sgs2 kernel apart from the CM/aosp kernels which use rom manager.

I can confirm this, I have the cwm app running on three devices, all running different software. But because I have clockwork recovery on all 3 devices, the app works fine.
And it does still work with my sgs2 running CM7.
EDIT: Its the tweakmanager app that is dependant on cf-root I think.

I might be wrong, but I think that might be because rom manager uses a 'fake flash'.
Currently rom manager sees the backups I've made using the cwm app, and vice versa.

Nope, you need scripting to flash a whole rom, and that's what makes a zip flushable, the bloody annoying and overly complex edifying scripting.
The tar is just a zimage inside a file!

Another few questions. One, from what I understand the highest version of cwm specifically for my droid DNA does not go up to 6.0.4.4, but rather 6.0.3.1. Is there a way to get this working or do I have to wait for a newer version. Also, how would I update my cwm to this version; what do I do to update it IF I get that 6.0.4.4 update. One more thing, you said I need to flash root after cyanogen mod 11. How do I do this?

The 4.4 threads should have a link to a compatible version of CWM. Flash it in fastboot just as you did with the prior version. As far as superuser, you shouldn't need to flash it in recovery since its already rooted and has superuser. I believe flashing superuser was required for the new Sense 5 update until developers released prerooted ROMs.
