There are so many Twitter apps out there and I'm having a hard time picking one. I used to use the "official" app but it seems to have lots of issues, it likes to give me a black screen if I open it more than 3 times without rebooting, so I'm in the market for another! I don't want anything too heavy, I primarily just read my feed and post tweets. I only have 1 account so multiple account support isn't a requirement.
What do you guys use?
Sent from my Droid Incredible using XDA App
Plume is excellent. There is a paid version also which I use.
I'd go with Plume, Tweetcaster or UberSocial (what was called Twidroyd).
We did a two part Guide on all the best Twitter apps here:

you should try twicca .. hands down the best
TWICCA
I can't believe nobody has mentioned tweetdeck!
It's the best for me (plus you can add a Facebook account)

i used to use tweetdeck before twicca ... but i just like twicca better. the one thing i did like about tweetdeck though that you cant do on the other clients is being able to RT people with protected tweets
Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on the 10.1 have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, bes sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,
others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
Why is this functionality useful?
Privacy - the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.
Testing - if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.
Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.
Speed - the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.
Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.

The Lite version allows the creation of two profiles, enough to test on.

I m ready for the test...hav been using my tab for more than 6 months now
i was finding this for a long time... just some questions before i begin testing this on my tab.
is it something like two or more accounts in one OS or multiple OS like i gotta keep ICS and stock honeycomb at the same time...is it possible?
on Samsung Galaxy Tab 7500 Indian Version
Stock Honeycomb 3.2 + pershoot kernel
Its multiple accounts inside one base OS. You can clone your current account, or create fresh installations of the ROM.
OK will install it today and start working over it!

Restarted gave me a fresh copy as if like profile after factory reset
Without bugs at the moment
Some applications missing and can't use password coz of lite version

Excellent! If you have any issues or suggestions, let me know!
And please rate the app! All you have to do is press the star button in the top left corner of the apps main screen.
Thanks in advance. Good ratings help us invest more time in apps and give other users with similar hardware peace of mind.
Yeah, works like a charm here. Allready purchased the key to support you guys. Had set up one main profile for daily use, one profile for watching movies and one for my mother if she wants to play some games. No problems at all.

Other than a rooted Nook tablet I don't have much experience with Android. I'm coming from an iPhone4 and looking forward to something new.
What are the must have utilities and apps?
Any tips or must have, must do things?
I've seen doubletwist mentioned and Samsung uses Kies.

I have never used kies with either my captivate or infuse. Don't see the need with other apps, as well as the fact that you can just drag and drop files onto your phone's storage. Syncing reminds me of an iphone, and is stupid in my opinion. Drag and drop allows you to only add the files you need/want, and is much faster in the long run.
I suggest using Google Music for your music, it automatically uploads up to 20,000 songs automatically from your itunes or windows media player to the cloud so that you can access them wherever.
If you use grooveshark at all, check out Dood's music streamer. Allows you to use grooveshark on the go without paying for premium service. If you have not used grooveshark before, check it out on your computer.
Google voice provides a simple, visual voicemail system, though I think I have read somewhere that the note has visual voicemail built in? Could be wrong.
XDA app is a must, though I assume you use that on your Nook already.
Dropbox is useful for documents, as well as google docs.
The note comes with S Note and other various apps that make use of the S pen.
Dolphin Browser HD is a great replacement browser that I have used with all of my androids.
Evernote is useful for taking notes that can be accessed on your phone or any computer. I hope the S pen can have some functionality with this app.
Root explorer is definitely worth the few bucks it costs to have access to all of the files on your phone.
Titanium backup is a must if you are into ROMing your devices, as it will allow you to restore your apps after every flash with ease. The free version works, but you have to approve every app install. I suggest buying the full version, as the restore process is fully automated and can run in the background or with your screen off, making the process much less cumbersome.
Other than that, we will have to wait and see if apps such as rom manager and such will be of any use to the flashing process once the devs get their hands on the device and start pumping out custom roms.
OP, i'm also as green as you on the Android platform. I have an iphone 4s and got the Note just to explore Android.

I use a captivate and have used froyo and gingerbread. I suspect you will find the gingerbread used on the g-note okay but not as polished and as smooth as your iOS. That said, the new android ICS (using cm9 alpha, build 16) is is incredible. Smooth, clean, powerful and intuitive. A pleasure to use, I believe It offers the best of both worlds. The ease of apple and the configurable power of android.
Since you have a nook you can try it out, the nook ics rom is very usable and will give you a hint of the g-note goodness to come with the ics operating system the xda guys will cook up. I have a nook to, and if you have rooted it, the ics install will be relatively simple.
The following list are some Apps you might find worth looking at, and depending on your interest, might even be worth paying for.
Music; I use Power Amp, paid app. clean seductive interface, lots of audio magic for the music lover, and great developer support.
Files; Webdav; paid ver. Nice little app let's you wireless mount your android as a drive so you can cut/paste files and folders as you would to and from any other drive on your PC. Great for lots of audio book files, movies, or just cleaning up your phone. You can use 3g instead of wifi but I've never tried it.
Podcasts; Dogcatcher, paid app. simply the best. Its biggest competition is Mypod. I used it for over a year, but never was able to get comfortable with its interface. Dogcatcher....you can just start using it, and it has lots of options.
Sling player, TV goodness, paid app and home box. Watch anything straight from your home cable, sat., or ota tuner, perfect if your a sports nut.
Launcher; Nova , free app. I am still testing but it is just so sexy and free so I figured I give it a mention.
Radio; Tune in , free app. music sports news radio stations with easy search presets. It is to good to be true but I haven't found a downside yet.
Browser; Dolphin HD, free app. I can't get excited about this one. It works, the speed is good, and it is not going to choke on flash. I would like to recommend Opera but it has been very buggy lately, I don't think it is playing nice with ics.
Google chrome is getting great reviews but it doesn't support flash. Then there is Boat browser and Quick Ics browser both show great promise but not sure about them yet.
I've got a G-note on order, for the lte and its monster screen. The thing is, since I got ics, my captivate is such a pleasure to use and play with I don't know how I'll survive waiting for a ics port.
Oh, and samsungs kies program might have some use but I've never found it.

I'm very disappointed to hear that Opera is buggy with ICS--it's my favorite browser by far. <sarcasm>Fortunately</sarcasm>, we probably won't have a working ICS ROM for I717 any time soon. For the OP, this is Opera Mobile, not Opera Mini--the latter handles all traffic through opera's servers and compresses images to speed up browsing for slow phones or phones with poor connections, but the result is that many webpages with active (javascript or flash) content just don't work right.
Also a word of warning for the OP: if you choose Dolphin, make sure you are rooted and block en.mywebzines.com (and maybe some other related URLs) through your hosts file. The spyware seems to be removed in the latest update, but I still won't trust a browser that, at any time in its history, forwarded essentially all of your web activity to a third party server. There's a long thread around here that discusses these issues in more depth.
Browsers are very much a matter of personal preference though; also, if you use a browser that matches your desktop browser, it makes syncing the two much easier--firefox, opera, and chrome all have great sync capabilities between their desktop and mobile counterparts.
Thanks for the link, a very disturbing read regarding the Dolphin Browser HD. I took aggressive data mining for granted, but damn the DB-hd boys are into strip mining personal data...... thanks again for taking the time to post...
OP, please forget i even mentioned Dolphin
(i going to.. ; ) and give Opera a shot. He is right were not gonna be on ics for good stretch, and by the time we are any quirks will be ironed out. It is a great overall program with lots of features. It has usually been my daily driver since the long gone days of windows mobile.

root question?
Since ICS is a ways off, If we root for TiBU, or Root explorer to remove certain system apps, will we get ICS FOTA, or will we not get it without unrooting and replacing all bloat we removed?
So my question is -any advice for those of us who root but want the OTA ICS when it comes out?
Should have put this out first- will the method for the international version for root work for the ATT one?
Update,

Hey,
I'm looking for beta testers for yet another 9GAG client for Windows Phone (8+). I know there are already plenty of clients available but none of them satisfy my demanding Actually there's only one client by Rudy Huyn (Market Link) which is quite good but keeps crashing since the last few updates. In addition it's somehow slow - I don't like that. So, I came up with another one

I attached some screenshots of the app. If you'd like to help me, just send me a PM with your LIVE e-mail address (the one you are using for the market). At the moment I'm looking for up to 10-15 testers.
I wish I could pay you for your efforts but I can't However, I will offer each beta tester a refund for the in-app purchase to remove ads (~1.5$).
During beta stage there won't be ads and if so, all in-app purchases are free during the app is published within the beta market. There won't be a "stand alone" paid version of this app.
I appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.
Yeah, Rudy Huyn app is good, but crashing (mostly on devices with 512MB RAM).
9gag app for devices with less RAM would be good. Lookin forward.

Are you sure on that? Coz actually it isn't possible. The list maps directly to a database. When you remove an item from the list, it's removed from the database automatically. I also cannot reproduce what you are saying. Is anybody else experiencing the same?

- added (basic) settings. choose which channel shall be displayed on the hub page and whether to start browsing channels in fullscreen or in "quick browsing mode"

Maybe it's normal but when you navigate through the two pages of channels sometimes it makes some lag, but not everytime.

I will definitely think about this feature. At the moment I don't have clue how to implement it without breaking user experience.
The problem is quite simple. The collection of items displayed in a list are fully virtualized. That means items are both loaded and rendered on demand - starting with the most recent post in a channel. It's more or less simple to initialize a channel from a specified point (last position the user left) but at that time I don't know anything about the ancestor items (posts). In the end the list, which is shown to you, will start at the last position you left and you won't be able slide left to view newer posts. The only solution which currently comes to my mind is to load a channel from the beginning and skipping all items until I reach the one you viewed last time. Of course I can do this but it's a damn waste of resources (CPU, memory and traffic).
As said, I will think about this one. But not now

Well, it shouldn't be normal
Just to make sure I get your point. You're talking about the list view and fullscreen view of a channel? The lag occures when you switch between those two views?
An Italian translation would be great but at the moment I need to finish the app first. Afterwards I could provide you with a list of strings
Starting to test it tommorow
ok tried a lot and no more lag , never! I think there was some bloatware running on the phone.

1. For the channels icon you can take the latest picture from tha cahnnel (you can make it refresh every time the app starts or sth. like that)
2. Resume from the last picture you saw in the channel. That means when I'm watching a channel and than go back to the menu and watch other channel and wann go back to the previous channel so that I musn't start watching from the latest picture but there will be a pop up window or sth like that so I will be able to choose if I want resume or start new session.
3. When I tap on the picture there is always some free space under tha picture (see in the attachments "screen 1.png"). It looks really crappy so you should remove it.
That's all till now I will tell you when I found sth.

like to help you with beta testing, wrote you a PM with details
Aside from games, which apps can you not live without on your phone/tablet? I have numerous apps I use every day without fail...Some before I even get out of bed.
First port of call is always Gmail, quickly followed by a scan of Google+, Facebook and Twitter
Facebook, Twitter, and in China WeChat is the most popular, Sina Weibo is similar to Twitter (would be daily, but I'm not such an addict that I can't wait to get to my PC)
My favorite todo list manager is AnyDO and I use both the Android app and Chrome extension to manage my deadlines
Chrome, obviously The big daily apps for me...
There are several others that I frequently use, but are not quite daily for me.
Infrequently used, but occasionally invaluable
Quora for Q&A, read millions of fascinating answers about every subject
italki for language learning, communicate with people all around the world and learning by the way
I love having an Android phone. I would feel lost without it. So.... What are your must-have/can't live without apps?
Telegram. I'm using two unofficial Telegram clients for my dual SIM device though : Plus Messenger and Dgram.

You mean the "Telegram" is an app? I have never heard about it, I think it would be very useful for dual SIM and how to get it
Adguard, Lastpass and Outlook. For me these are the top three most important app right now.
NoRoot Data Firewall. Its ability to block hosts, block IP, block apps, set DNS, and block image sistem wide in one VPN service is unmatched yet. That's important because Android can activate only one VPN. Need update though.

I found Lastpass on Google Play, it is really an amazing app, thanks for your recommendation:highfive:
The Adguard is the exact app name? I cannot search it on GP... The Ads always annoy me, I think I need one this app

No problem
And yea, Adguard is the exact name. But the one you'll find on play store isn't the best version.
Download it from their official website.... https://adguard.com/en/adguard-android/install.html
You can also find it here on xda... http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/adguard-ad-blocker-doesnt-require-root-t2958895/
Lastpass also has a desktop chrome extension. And your data is synced for free. So any login details you save on your phone will be available on your computer and vice versa.
Adguard too is available for your computer (if you're interested).
And since you use fb, g+ and twitter, give reddit a try, if you haven't already. You can directly visit their website @ reddit.com or you can just use their app (named Reddit on play store). At first it might seem overwhelming but trust me, you're going to get addicted.
APP2SD for low internal memory problems and xposed module PREVENT RUNNING..and AMPLIFY for battery save.

:highfive: The developer of Prevent Running comes from China, I used to use it very often, and the Greenify is also awesome.
It seems that the 2SD is also available to hide apps, is an app manager, NICE!

Yep. I use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Powerpoint for that. I've never tried anything else. Microsoft products worked really well for me. And so I stuck with them.
Btw I sent you a PM. Do check it
