Battery Charging Issues - HTC EVO 3D

Anybody else have an issue where it takes forever to charge the phone? The past few days I've been charging my phone overnight and it's only been hitting 85% and coming to a stop. I'm assuming its 100% but the display is lying to me, but I could be wrong.

I have the same issue. Even if I charge the battery on a dock still won't reach past 85
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk

Seems like it just sits at 85 for a while, as if it's really 100 and just waiting to drop below 85 to update the status

Battery Issue.....
Having a similar problem. Mine seems to stay @99% it hits 100% rarely . I've tried w/phone on and off (which charge to 98% win I turn on after charging overnite. Went to the Sprnt Store they couldn't find anything or didn't bother to check it out. Anyway they gave me a "Brand New Phone" GUESS WHAT SAME ISSUE Hmmm???. Next Step Will Contact HTC. LOL

Erm, that's how the phone works.
It charges to 100, then drains to 90, then back to 100, over and over. You're just not pulling it off when it's at 100%. It only sits at 100% for about 5 mins.
As for the 85% thing? That's not something I've seen before... Run it for a few minutes at 85%, see if it drops like normal. If it sits at 85% for too long, it's probably a display bug.

I am not having the same issue, but didn't want to start another battery charging issues thread. My evo3d isn't charging overnight. I will put it on the charger and it will show charging, but then when I wake up it will either be shut off or at something like 12% . I am (currently) on infected eternity 1.41 no tweaks. Taints kernel oc'd to 1.44. Does anyone have any ideas?

The kernel is panicking and shutting your phone off, try another kernel or stop ocing your kernel until after phone is charged.

Instead of watching the percentage get an app to watch the battery voltage,
A full charge is 4330 or so,
CPU cauge from market works well

I'll give it a try then report back

you can also try battery calibration app. shows the batt % and voltage and lets your recalibrate on the fly if your rooted. but yeah the batt will charge and discharge. if it's in discharge phase just unplug it and plug it back in and it'll start going back up.

So I bought SetCPU, and set up a profile for charging which is below the normal clock. This seemed to work as my phone charged all the way up last night. Thank you again.

I wonder why HTC did this. My EVO 3D won't charge to 100%, it will only charge to 99%. When I see the green light I thought it was fully charged but see it at 99%, so I leave it on my charging dock. Then I check later and it's down to 96%
This is my 3rd EVO. The previous EVO's did charge to 100%.

Try this. What ever your battery stops at unplug the charger and then plug it back in if you guys haven't already. This is what worked for me. Maybe it will for you as well.

[Q] loosing charge while charging?

hey guys not a noob but feel like one right now bc i have to ask this.
anyways i have a vibrant running nero 5 w/voodoo. my charger port is iffy at best. i ordered a new usb port off ebay and will be installing it once it arrives.
now the phone charges fine off, however i noticed that when im on it while plugged in charging its loosing percentage. i just finished charging it and turned the phone back on and kept it plugged in to top off the last 4 percent it had to go to 100. and when i check in settings it says 88% about 5 mins later it said 86%
any ideas?
i also did a search and didnt really find anything
I've had this issue since day 1. I've had my vibrant for almost a year now and it's never changed. It's happened on stock and all roms I've used. It seems to happen more when I'm using memory heavy apps or games. I used to play pocket legends and I once drained my battery (while plugged in) so much that I went from %100 down so low my phone died. The charger never lost connection either.
I've also had this happen while streaming tv shows to my phone & using tv out while charging.
Happens to me sometimes. I figured it was a badly calibrated battery. I calibrated my battery and it doesn't happen that much. Oh, and I've learned to not really use my phone when it's charging. Lol.
yea i bought a new battery yesterday. let it die then charged it. drained it and had probs. i wiped the stats and its off charging now sitting at about 92 percent. see how it goes

I've gone through it with the stock battery and my 3000mAz
Are you overclocked at all? Maybe set a charging profile with setcpu to lower clock and/or undervolt if you have a compatible kernel? Not sure, just throwing out ideas... Good luck, hope you get it figured out.
[SOLVED]
issue has been solved. thanks everyone
How did you solve it
it could be an app using the cpu at all times
turned the phone off and let it charge all night and that was about 3 days ago and its back to normal now. it was deff a bettery issue as i have 3 batterys and 2 extended ones and my other batteries would charge just fine. but all good to go now. thanks.

Battery only charges to 99%

When I charge my phone it only charges to 99%. I'll leave it in for a while, come back and it's only at 99%. Either charging in the wall, or on the computer. It used to make it to 100% then all of a sudden it just stays at 99% regardless how long it charges. So the charging light always stays on and never lets me know when it's fully charged.
Any idea why?
Thanks.
Mine does that too once in a while, randomly.
But the Sensation would do that to randomly.
Dunno why.
Battery is strange...
I get that too. But eventually it will get to 100%. There has been times where it was charged to 100% then suddenly drop to 99% even though it still plugged in.
Did you get your phone recently? I'm thinking its because the battery needs to be conditioned.
Mines always does that, as soon as I unplug it it jumps to 98%. Im hoping ARHD fixes this
I've installed Battery Widget (from Market) and it reports 100%. I plug in every night and in the morning it reads 100%.

New Amaze Android Revolution HD ROM by mike1986?
This happens with many devices. I have not seen this yet on my Amaze but I am sure at some point it will happen. Try turning the phone off and charging it to 100% then power it on also try running the battery all the way down and letting it charge to full UNINTERRUPTED over night. If those dont help you can always try another rom with better battery management or go into a t-mobile store and get a battery replacement if your battery is still under warranty. Hope this helps
HTC does this on a lot of phones. It is a safety default to keep the battery healthy and safe. I had this issue with the Evo. The only way to fully charge a battery is to have other a wall charger or a SBC kernel.
its the best sense rom known to man in my opinion.

My stock battery is 3.8v, and it only goes to 100% if I charge it in the phone. If I use my wall charger, it shows up at 99% when I put it back in my phone. I have two aftermarket batteries that show about 98% when charged from the wall. I am thinking that the phone charging circuit is set for 3.8v, and might possibly overheat the aftermarket batteries (3.7v). I saw one review that said these batteries melted the top of his SIM card. I'm not planning on trying that; I use the stock, charging every night, and swap the spares in if I run out of charge during the day.
I just remember hearing the same stories when I had my evo. You could charge for hours and unplug it and it would almost immediately drop to 99 or 98. So my previous statement may or may not help.
I charged mine over nite and woke up to it being 99%, left it for another hour or two and it hit 100%. I would say to leave it a little longer to get that last 1%.

this is normal for lithium ion batteries...it also depends how the manufacturer perceives the battery...some manufeacturers say that your phone is 100 percent but it might only be around 95-98...overcharging lithium ions are bad...also some manufacturers say you have 10 percent left while you might actually have 15 or maybe to percent left...this is a fail safe method to shut off the phone and keep the battery from draining completely WHICH IS REALLY REALLY BAD FOR LITHIUM IONS...OVER CHARGING THE BATTERY IS BAD TOO...perhaps htc's thresh holds are a little different and actual to the real battery life.
also not a good idea to use your phone or any lithium ion device while its charging
powering off your phone to charge it overnight is the best idea to give you lithium ion a long life but this is not practical. this is why it says 100 percent when you turn off the phone and 99 when you're phone is off....it confuses the phone: " A portable device must be turned off during charge. This allows the battery to reach the set threshold voltage unhindered, and enables terminating charge on low current. A parasitic load (which means using phone or turning screen on while its charging) confuses the charger by depressing the battery voltage and preventing the current in the saturation stage to drop low. A battery may be fully charged, but the prevailing conditions prompt a continued charge. This causes undue battery stress and compromises safety."

This will definitely fix the problem, but only temporarily. Next time it drains down and I try to charge it up again, it stops at 80-85%. But when you look at the battery stats, it shows 4200.
I've tried wiping the battery stats, applying the Juggernaut fix, following the steps in the ultimate batttery guide -- still have the problem. I even switched back from CM7 to stock ROM and can't seem to shake this issue.
Just totally kill it and then recharge it fully.
Thats what I do whenever I get this problem.

I am having the same problem since updating to gingerbread. Will try deleting files above. First time I´ve seen that advice.
Just an update. Temporary fix for me only. Phone still charges only to 60% after a recharge.tried everything so far with no results.
I switched from the ics mod cm7 to nuetrino and also drained it fully. It now charges to around 93ish%, but my phone normally charges to only about 95-97% even when it was on stock.

this method works to set your current level to 100% or 99%. just did it with 67% remaining and rebooted to see 99% battery. tried wiping batt stats and plugging in without booting but it still saw the batt as full.
luckily i was just experimenting so i had backed up all three of those files and restored them and was back to 67% after reboot. so i'm charging it to the max my phone sees now (87%) and then deleting the files to set that as the new 100%.

Let me know if it sticks after a full discharge and recharge. I deleted the files while i was at 100%, maybe if should have done it while stuck at 60%.

I also just deleted the files, i had a full charge (showing 93% (and thats been the highest in weeks!)), i will post back my findings as well
~~~EDIT~~~
4 hours later, full brightness and no screen timout, i am down to 1%.... just waiting for the phone to turn off. i want to post my results so you guys can see when you come on next... the longest part now is going to be the full 100% charge, which i have not had in weeks.... fingers crossed!
~~~EDIT 2~~~
Well I have been stuck at 93% for the last 30 minutes or so. looks like if you let the phone go dead or power down, it reverts back, or there is something else causing. this issue
It seems to me deleting those files results the same as removing the battery while charging and placing in back.both tips gets you back to 100% but only temporarily for some of us. After a discharge it will not charge to 100%, just as before. I have no idea what is causing it, but my phone battery is about to die from overcharging. like everyone else, it started after a flash.but for some reason it is permanent for some users. Will be getting a new phone if I cannot solve the problem. If anyone had any insights feel welcome to contribute.
ya... after leaving it charge overnight, mine is only at 94%.... so this is only a temp, VERY ttemp fix.

Phone not charging properly while off?

OK, guys, I heard that ClockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0 has issues with off-charging. I tested that for myself.
I flashed Revolutionary Recovery 4.0.1.4, and the phone seems to CHARGE while turned off. There's a bit of a problem, though.
A few friends suggested that I discharge the phone entirely then charge it while it's turned off, for 12 hours. I did that! LED was green when I woke up (12 hours since plugged in), so I disconnected it and turned the phone on. SURPRISE ! 64% BATTERY ! I rebooted the phone, thinking that maybe the % counter isn't showing it properly. No, it WAS showing it properly.
What is the problem?! Is it because of the recovery, again? I thought Revolutionary CWM 4.0.1.4 isn't broken like that?!
The problem is not that it doesn't charge while off. After the phone's battery depleted, I plugged it to the wall charger, then the red LED switched on, 5 seconds later it went off then it switched back on. I believe the phone charged to 100% then it was supposed to discharge to 90% then charge back up to 100%... and it didn't recharge once it went back to 90%, but continued to discharge. Otherwise I see no explanation why it was at 64% after 10 hours of charging...

It's 2012. It's time to aggressively spread the word that discharging your phone, charging it back up and repeating the cycle 3 times while you chant monk songs will do absolutely nothing for your battery.
Battery 'conditioning' methods do not work, are not needed, and haven't been for a very long time now.
That is all!

Yeah, well, I did do that 'conditioning' and it seemed like it worked, at least for a few days. I guess it's just a placebo. That was when I had the Desire and the Desire HD. I didn't have time to let the phone charge while off lately, perhaps I will, soon.

Whenever there's a socket nearby and I have the cords with me, I preffer to stay on the charger and take out the battery. I know it's reccomended that you use the battery 2-3 times a month and never stay without the battery for a long period of time.

Are there any alternatives? Or does anyone have an older ClockWork and a method to install it without using ROM manager?

3rd party battery makers (like Momax, Seidio etc.) claim their batteries hold up to 80% of the specificed capacity, and sometimes, EVEN 60% ! That is RUBBISH.
I had a solar battery (China). It said it was of 2600 mAh. Wouldn't charge my old Desire even up to 80%... So it barely had 1000 mAh, lol.

And yeah, ClockworkMod Recovery by Revolutionary (not sure how to really call it, lol) 4.0.1.4 is the best... Too bad TeamWinRecoveryProject isn't available for us, GSM owners . WHY THE F*** is it for CDMA only, though. The hardware CAN'T DIFFER THAT MUCH .

Rezound battery dies even while charging.

I installed CleamRom 4.3 yesterday and everything seemed to be working great minus when I put the phone on the charger and went to bed.
I woke up to a dead phone and I have no idea why. Anyways, I get in the car and charge my phone on my way to work and it gets to maybe 15%. I take it into work and plug it in USB and check the phone to see it is almost dying. I got a pop-up message about the phone is currently using to much current for the charger.
It went from 100% to 0% in less than 30 minutes while plugged into the wall.
So I pulled up the battery usage and this is what I see:

If anyone has any ideas how to fix this please let me know cause I have no idea what is causing this.

Did this problem start with this rom or did it have issues prior to it?

It just started with the rom. It has shut off before at night while charging though but the battery was not dead.
How it is even possible the battery went from 100% to 0 in like 15 minutes?
It's not reporting right or a bad battery. The phone would overhead before draining that much power.

Try charging it to full with the phone off, then boot into recovery and clear the battery stats.

I'll give that a shot once it gets done charging which is going to take forever at work.
Also make sure you are running amon ra recovery....cwm has issues if your phone battery dies....

Are you using the HTC charger, or something else? A lot of chargers will only put out half the current the HTC charger puts out, and the Rezound draws a lot. I have several chargers, and my phone runs at a discharge on more than one if the screen and/or radios are on. If I set the phone to stay awake when on power, on some chargers it would deplete the battery overnight.
All chargers have a 5v output specification. IIRC the HTC charger is 1000mah. A lot of devices that work on early USB specs will only output 500mah or less. Check your chargers.
