SOAK test has not started yet. Best to get your info from Motorola Atrix official forums.
A & C. You can do so by flashing back to 4.1.26, 4.1.57, or 4.1.83 full sbf. All your answers for this are in the dev forum. If you are on AT&T you can go here for guide.
B. Backup your contacts to Google. Backup your apps with TiBu. Backup your music to your external SDCARD. Anything you want to manually backup from your internal SDCARD, just copy and paste over to your computer.

Go here and get Super One click, you can also folow that tutorial but like you I was new to this and ran into a few problems following that tutorial (Very simple problems to get by but i didn't realise lol)
Any way here we go:
Things you need:
Super one click - Get it from here as this one worked for me
link2sd (off the andriod market, this alows your apps to install to sd card)
titanium backup free or pro (you can get busybox from this and also uninstall everthing you don't want on the phone but be carefull)
But first
Lets stats at the begining,
connect your phone/mount just normal connect then go here and follow the steps, after that restart your phone (Don't worry if your phone displays an error before you restart just reboot)
Now go into you settings, applications, Development then tick USB Debugging (You can also go to settings Sound and Display, Screen time Out and set it to 30 mins)
after doing so run super one click on you computer, connect your phone but select charge phone this time, then click root (If the usb conection screen reapears on your phone just re-click charge phone) and when it is done it will ask you if you want to do a test before you click yes disconect your phone reboot it, connect again in charge mode then click yes and ok to the next message then on your phone you should get a message from the super use app click allow.
righty oh asuming everything has gone well download titanium backup (free or pro, i use free lol) once installed go on it and click problem alow it with the super user, and click 'Problems?' then 'Get busybox'.
after that you'll be able to uninstall stock apps, finaly if you want your apps to gon onto your sd instead of phone memory get link2sd of the andriod market if not don't lol, once you have it go on it allow with super user and click the FAT somthing option sorry can't remember but you can't miss it (bottome one) click ok then you can sellect apps to move to your sd
and we are DONE hope this helped as I never had anyone explain in depth to me lol anyway any problems i'd be more than happy to help out
Enjoy and hope everything goes well for you

Dear friend,

I've installed superoneclick then rooted.. then installed titanium back up then busy box too,,, then what do i need to do to move apps to sd card.. i've installed app2sd from market... pls help me what do i need to do?
Once again thank you for your kind informations....

If you are on windows there is a tool called mini partition wizard which can do this for you. I believe you can do it in Clockworkmod now too?

Rooting your phone allows backups/restore, custom roms, able to install/delete system apps. It basically frees any restrictions on the phone

1. nope, rooting your phone will not delete any data..
2. not necessary, well if you insist, you always can backup first, for later use
3. maybe you can check this app here : this app cal MyBackup, if you like this app, you can purchase the pro version

You have to go back to stock firmware and then relock the bootloader (press the restore button in S1Tool), don't use the x10blrelock from flashtool.
I hope your signal will be back by then, and i guess you'll be stuck with ROMS that run on stock kernel.

[Q] Returning to stock?

Howdy Folks,
If [when] I go with one of the "ROM's" (i.e. GreyBlur/GladiAtrix/GingerBlur) if I should desire to go back to the phone's stock ROM how would I go about doing so? Is that just a matter of a factory reset, or do I need to take another approach?
I'm also assuming I would need to do so to update the phone?
Thanks for the help!

Thank you!! By the way, what in the world does SBF stand for?
System boot file?
So back on this topic, can't I just recover back to stock by going into recovery mode (a la http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966648)? Or would one of these ROM's modify the files that such a recovery mode uses and therefore make it not an option?
EDIT: and now I've come across this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038063&highlight=cwm
So can I somehow backup a copy of my phone's OS to restore to? That would be ideal.
I'm not familiar at all with this clockworkmod thing. Sorry I know these are probably stupid questions but everyone has to learn for the first time at some point. Thanks folks for the help.
Sorry for the bump but I'm trying to get this answered. This is the last thing I wanted to find out before I root / install a ROM.

Getting Root without deleting data. Possible?

Hello. Is it possible to get root on Samsung Galaxy S3 with no data deleting and no flashing new ROM. I just want to save current pre-installed stock ROM?
No because most Rom's these days require a full wipe unless stated....follow the procedure in the S3 Android Development section in order to root your device....new process is available, easier and quicker

Root using this -CF-Root- method. I'm quite sure this method won't wipe your data. OTA updates are not available on rooted phones.
I followed this guide
http://www.androidnz.net/2012/06/at-your-own-risk-how-to-root-your.html
and rooted my GS3 without loss of any data at all. Everything exactly where I left it when I rebooted..... it was still a bit scary messing with £500 worth of phone, so that's why I did it within the 7 day period where I could take it back to the shop for an instant replacement
I see.. And how to get new stock updates on Rooted phone? What will you say about http://www.sammobile.com? They offer paid services...
Mate, any new firmware will be picked apart and put back together about 1000000 times better by our devs here on XDA... Look at all the phones we play with.. I have been using this site to hack my phone for years and I can tell you that the roms the devs cook up here are light years ahead of what most companies do...
Anything that appears in the zoo will make it out here to the wild sooner or later....

you can get root without loosing any kind of data or config with the stock rom!
just follow this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1684535
and do exactly what is written in the sections "Instructions - Long" and "Manually rooting" - you will than have root with the stock rom - no need do change firmware, rom or kernel and no need to do a factory reset! I've done that yesterday, and didn't loose any configuration!
cheers Gerald
Thanks Gerald. Guys, what about getting new versions of stock firmware after rooting the phone? Is it possible without deleting data (something like OTA)?

What the hell are you talking about? ofcourse it's possible.. I did it..
You flash the insecure kernel with Odin, then you push superuser via adb.. it's as easy as that.
It doesn't touch the data partition.

You can't get official updates from Samsung with root, but you can flash the updated software via recovery (and I'm guessing odin - haven't got much experience with that since its my first samsung) without wiping data, thus only updating the system.

Yea, thats the first thing you always do. Make a backup and store it some place safe. THEN start experimenting lol.
Ok, got the backup made, flashed Eclipse 2.2.1. I like this much better than stock. Last night I was tinkering with it and installed Supercharger v6 script on it. I ran several different options and then after restarting, it was constantly on roaming for data. It was fine before, I flashed my backup back onto it and re did everything. It is back to normal. Does anyone know why it would be on roaming. Thanks for being patient with a new guy. People on here are a great help

Not sure but you can always check your settings. I had a rom on one of mine a while back and it came as default to rain outside of my home area somehow. Also, try to update the PRL. Not sure how to do it with your carrier. Mine is *228(Alltel) .
Also, how did you do your back up? Im wanting a custom ROM on mine but I have no ABC if all foes bad and I'm not sure I could do a Nandroid.

2.3.6 Rom?
Skinzaholic:
I have a MX2 which belonged to my brother (a technologically inept moron who took the 2.3.6 update). I was finally able to gain root yesterday, and since then I've been looking for a custom rom to get rid of motoblur. Everything I've read about eclipse says that it's for 2.3.4/2.3.5 only, and will not work for 2.3.6. When you flashed it, was it fully functional for you?

All great advice. Just remember you bsr is trash when you wipe system OR data!!
Or even the rom fails to boot. Almost anything can upset bsr on the quaint Dx2. Or the Mx2 same phone ReRecovery works on it also.

Rerecovery has never worked for me.
Also all Roms work on 2.3.6. The down side is it is not downgradable. Check out the mx2 folder in my android crap folder. The link is in my signature. I kept the zips for several Roms in there. If the gapps aren't there Google for them.

Known issue-it just won't take on some mx2's.

Contacts etc should still be synced with your mal. There are also lots of apps to backup sms if you need.

My phone came with 4.1 so i don' t know what will be deleted. But you should be prepared for loosong everything i guess. Best is always to backup all stuff on internal and external sdcard. Doing all this manually (bacjkup and restore) will be pain. So check if you find a backup solution that doesnt need root. Non root apps must be backupable without root.
