Galaxy S3 jb 4.1 update - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so my friend has a galaxy s3( international) and he doesn't want to update to 4.1 because he thinks it will delete some of his stuff as it said in the update warning. Also is it smoother than 4.0. Thanks we live in Australia

Hi, if update told you it will delete data i recommend doing a backup to external sd or pc. I find titanium backup for all apps and settings beeing enough for me + backup your pictures etc manually. Contacts etc should still be synced with your mal. There are also lots of apps to backup sms if you need.
If backuped all do the update and enjoy jb

My phone came with 4.1 so i don' t know what will be deleted. But you should be prepared for loosong everything i guess. Best is always to backup all stuff on internal and external sdcard. Doing all this manually (bacjkup and restore) will be pain. So check if you find a backup solution that doesnt need root. Non root apps must be backupable without root.

hey,
there are some backuptools that require no root access. Haven't tried any of them.

Think this should help you to backup game data etc.

SOAK test has not started yet. Best to get your info from Motorola Atrix official forums.
A & C. You can do so by flashing back to 4.1.26, 4.1.57, or 4.1.83 full sbf. All your answers for this are in the dev forum. If you are on AT&T you can go here for guide.
B. Backup your contacts to Google. Backup your apps with TiBu. Backup your music to your external SDCARD. Anything you want to manually backup from your internal SDCARD, just copy and paste over to your computer.

use titanium backup, remember to back up before uninstalling.
there are other apps that remove system apps too, but titanium is the most widely used.
Thanks for the reply.

You just need to make sure that the bloatware you're removing is not needed by the phone.
Freezing the wrong thing with Titanium could cause your phone's other functions to stop working.
Just go one by and one and see if it affects anything.
If it doesn't than you're safe. Move on to the next one.

Trying to restore S4

I recently screwed up a rom by not reading in the middle of the night. I accidentally flashed a T-Mobile rom . Anyways, I have everything up and running, but I'm having a problem with restoring. Really, it just can't find the file for it. I'm not exactly sure how to fix this either.

No, I'm trying to use a restore I made before messing up.
You need to do that from the recovery console with CWM or TWRP. I'm not sure what you mean by looking for a file. There is none if you made a nandroid backup. Just browse to that file and your set.

No, no. I already made the back up but whenever I try to restore it, it claims nothing is in the folder or even there. I've made three copies and can show you.
Sorry for double posting, but I really need to get this settled. I had some info on there that was important.

In that case I would do an Odin restore then root then install CWM/TWRP and restore your backup. I can send you info via PM on restoring via Odin with links if you need.

All S4 roms can be run on other s4s except octa core i9500 rooms. I9505 tmobile att and sprint roms will work if you flash a verizon s4 touch wiz kernel and a verizon modem.

1.What program did you use to make your backup? 2.Did you save it in internal memory or SD card, remember that if you wiped internal it may have wiped along with it, if its on your SD and your using twrp you have a few options.. You can hook your phone to your computer and search your SD card or find the file path by going through twrp. I have done this before, it's just simply a case of finding your backup...let me know if you still need help

This is exactly what is happening to me when I try and restore an old backup from my ext sd card. I know the backup is in there, but recovery is telling me there is nothing in the folder...???

updating a rooted Galaxy S2 to android 4.x

Hi there,
I have my rooted I9100 (su binary v3.0.3.2) still running android 2.3.4. I think this is time to update to 4.x (JB is the latest available I guess) but after some research I couldn't find the firmware from a trusted source (since I have to perform the update manually due to root). Could anyone help me out? Some instructions would be nice too. Thanks
Sammobile.com (or JB thread sticked in the general forum) and flash with Mobile odin Pro.
Don't wanna pay for the pro version?
Mobile Odin Lite.
It doesn't get any easier than this.

thanks. Just flashed and everything's working fine. One more question: is there any way to remove all the pre-installed bloatware?

Yes, see @Sun90's post about which apps are safe to remove. And you can use titanium backup (from play store) to freeze/uninstall the apps you do not want.
Edit: gastonw beat me to it..
Freeze the apps first.....in case you mess with something you shouldn't. And make a nandroid before you start....that way you always have something to 'fall back' to if you freeze/delete something that the phone needs to boot .....

thanks @ all. I just found the Root Uninstaller Pro and removed everything I was sure that will not damage the system, like those Hubs and some carrier specific bloatware. Seems to work fine

[Q] Android Upgrade App that upgrades while keeping settings and data

Is there an easy to use and Free Android Upgrade App that upgrades the Android OS like from 4.0.2 to newest 4.2.2 while keeping settings and personal data and installed apps. Seems like a common sense thing since everyone expects this on Desktop OS updates right? why not with Android.
Thanks all

Which phone are u using, normally manufacturers push out updates, for example, nexus 4 got updated from 4.3 to 4.4, it happened via OTA ( over the air ) update in which all data remains intact.
In case u want to shift to a custom rom , u can use an app called titanium backup, which will backup and restore all apps.
there is also Nandroid backup via CWM and TWRP
