Got the tab a week ago. The front facing camera was working fine, tried it again today and the color was all screwed up. Is this a hardware or software problem? The back camera still works fine. The picture attached was taken from the front camera.
I would think it is a software issue. Did you install any rom or photo software?
Nope. Havent installed any camera apps or messed with any settings.
If you have root, and you can try flashing a fresh rom.
I have exactly the same issue on my Nexus S. Back camera also works fine. I have stock 4.1.2. Never flashed anything else. Phone version is I9023XXKI1. I know it worked flawlessly for months in skype. Then it changed to this weird color mode for some calls and back without any apparent reason. Now it doesn't change anymore. It just stays this way. I tried to change many settings, nothing helps. I'm also attaching image.
This is the only post I found that seems to be the same as my problem. The hardware is different (well, they are both from Samsung) but result is the same.

since new camera never worked i upgraded stock firmware made a factory reset but the problem is still there, the camera keeps a black screen freezes, buttons dont work and sometimes it says "camera fail"

The camera should work with stock (out-of-the-box) firmware. You did the right thing and flashed newer firmware and also factory reset.
That should have fixed it if it was firmware issue...........
Rooting and installing any custom firmware would be a waste of time.
It's obviously a hardware issue, so re-flash the original firmware and return it for replacement asap.

Hi, I have bit different symptoms.
My back camera is working fine but I have problems with my front camera.
When I use my front camera it shows very darker screen than other GS3.
Also, when I want to switch from front to back camera it lags and switches after 5 seconds.
Sometimes it gives me error message when switching and it kicks me out to the home screen.
I don't know what is wrong.
I did the factory reset and the symptoms were still there.
When I reflashe the phone the symptoms are gone but it appears later.
I thought it was caused by one of the apps so deleted all the apps I have one by one.
Did not work out.
Will this be a hardware problem?
So when i open up my camera app the screen in just black and i can see all the buttons on the app. I tried downloading a different camera app and still its just picking up a black screen. Anybody else ever have this issue or know of any possible solutions. Ive already tried restarting the phone...

What Rom are you on? Need some details. Best thing to do is revert to stock and see if it works. If it still doesn't...it's a hardware issue and need to get it replaced.

About a week ago my camera (running CM 10.1) started to have issues focusing. I tried changing camera settings and used different camera apps but the results were same.
When a factory reset didn't work I tried a stock Samsung ROM and to my surprise the issue persisted. I never had this problem before. The camera seems to only be able to focus when objects are very, very close otherwise pictures are incredibly blurry.
Any thoughts? I'm afraid it may be a hardware issue.

I have Z2 with latest 5.0 build (.28). 1-2 days since i updated my phone, camera app stopped working. I opened it and it's just a black screen with control buttons. It doesn't make pictures. I tried to reset my phone with PCC, but problem stayed. I downloaded other camera apps from Play Market and they also didn't work, then i turned off stock camera app (in settings) and other camera apps worked fine. When i turn stock camera app back it works for some hours and then again black screen.
Is it a SW or HW problem? Does enyone know what to do?

i have never faced this problem, but i have heard that it was a couple of bugs in the 5.0.2 builds.
Try to upgrade your firmware and se if it works better
I have a stock rooted G3 running ZV8. One day last week, my rear facing camera stopped working. No warnings or anything like that beforehand, just no longer working. I get a black screen with only a back button and the last pic taken icon, but nothing else. When I try to access the camera from another camera app I get the message that the camera can't be started or is in use by another application.
The front facing camera seems to still be functional, but can only be accessed by a camera app that goes directly to it, like Camera360. I'm at a complete loss as to ideas about whether this is a software issue, or a hardware issue. If anyone else has had issues with their camera no longer working, any info you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem, and it just appeared out of nowhere as well... I have tried clearing the camera apps cache and data and have wiped davlick from twrp but to no avail. Going to try wiping and reinstalling the rom and will get back to you if it works.
