First and foremost, I love this. It has definitely saved my phone. However, I find it hard to find the perfect balance. I tried the gaming settings and ended up switching to the Mega Memory settings, which I've ran until today. Mega Memory was great, however it didn't play well with WidgetLocker (which is necessary due to the horrible stock lockscreen lag).
I recently came across a thread with some custom values (6, 12, 50, 70, 90, 110) and it runs excellent with WidgetLocker. No redraw upon entering my homescreen (actually, 1 in 15 maybe) - so now WidgetLocker runs fantastic. However, I have noticed my picture frame widgets (of my daughter) don't fill in all the way. This never happened with Mega Memory.
I currently have about 65-75 free RAM at any given time. My phone seems to be running solid, except I have the before mentioned issues with my picture frame widgets and lately I can't see any text when typing a text. This is random and happened before using the script. Does anyone know of a "sweet spot" that might fix all of these? I am tempted to bump up slot 3 from 50 to 60 or so to see if that does it, but I'm not sure if that is what controls the issues I'm having.
Any input/suggestions/thoughts would be welcome.
I'm rooted and supercharged as well. I'm also using WidgetLocker. I was using Launcher Pro Plus, but I was getting redraws pretty much every time the phone was unlocked. I've switched to Go Launcher now and I haven't experienced a redraws in over 2 weeks.

I'm using ADW also. Have you noticed any difference between your setting above, and the Megamemory 1 setting, which is supposedly a bit more conventional?

I haven't tried 1, as the 40 mb free turns me off. What do I know though. If my memory serves me correctly, the values are the same as the now deceased gaming option.
On an aside, and slightly related, I've given up on widget locker for this phone. Too many problems...
Well, it's hard to know which settings are best. And, of course those settings that are best for one phone's configuration may not be best for another, even on the same model phone. So I guess I'll stay with MegaMemory #1 for a while and watch my free memory and see if any more sluggishness arises. If it does, I'll give #2 a try.

I have only had y atrix a few days and am starting to get really fed up with how laggy the device is.
I have installed the updates as advised by the handset and even trien using a 3rd party launcer (launcher pro and adw ex) but still have the same problems.
The biggest thing that frustrates me is when i am trying to type a email and it constantly laggs between typing words.
mine is a uk handset on orange network.
any advice how i get over this...do i need to root it and remove certain blootware or upgrade to android 2.3?/
please advise me with links etc to how i get over this
Try freezing the motorola bloatware through titanium backup. Do a search in the development forum to find the thread.
Could make the difference. Will certainly boost battery life!

Is it laggy over all or just when typing? my Atrix is not laggy at all but certain keyboards cannot keep up. IMO Swiftkey BETA in the market is pretty fast, try another keyboard out.
Use cache mate should kill alott of the lagg

No lag here. But yea another keyboard might help.
I noticed that it's app dependent. In some apps its fast, and other apps its laggy/sluggish. The native SMS/MMS texting client slugs behind in screen refresh on the keyboard. Other apps go smooth. I am using BETTER KEYBOARD 8 (paid version), instead of the native keyboard.

lags when sliding between different screens, tried it with standard launcher and also launcher pro in the hope that would be quicker...same problem.
i also fin that it lags badly when typing.just dosent keep up and i am by no means the fastest typer.

My runs perfect with lp plus, you have to much running in the background probably! Better 8th & swift are great I have both, using swift now as I feel it's a little better for me.
I had to uninstall Launcher Pro Plus because it took like 3 seconds for a swipe on the screen (the first/second times) to move. It was unbearable.
The original launcher has a lower FPS but at least it works. It sucks in comparison to LPP but if it works, it beats just about anything.
With Blur, things are significantly laggy.
With Launcher Pro, the default animation times create a lot of useless lag, so, under LP preferences, I changed the animations times to instant (eg. zero) or near instant, and I have absolutely no lag anywhere anymore. This is on rooted stock 1.8.7.
its the stock apps. they arent optimized for our phones. if you ran the 2.3.4 you could tell. the keyboard or anything didnt lag on there. even though its buggy.
install better keyboard, that doesnt lag for me. i use swype and it doesnt lag. also install the TWlauncher in themes&apps. it doesnt really lag at all, smooth as butter.
thanks for the reply
i will give the suggested options a try
The new swype beta crashes my phone... it was great except for emails and passwords.
Sent from my Motorola Atrix 4G on the network with the most backhaul, whatever that is. This post might have errors as I hate touchscreen keyboards.
Laggy?
Several issues to take into account:
The launcher that you use. I use None, so that takes the burden off my cpu a lot
The ROM. Stock 2.3.4 is sloww. but can try Ninja or others
The app killer. Try use one that does the job of getting rid of stray processes at least on an hourly basis. Android Assistant is the one I use.
Try and use Start Up auditor, and make sure you dont have unwanted code getting into the mess.
If you have apps in your ext SD that is also a problem.. mine are all in internal SD.
As one previous post mentioned try and freeze unwanted bloatware.
Believe it or not, if your battery is not in a good shape, that will put a burden on the CPU.
Use SetCPU and create profiles. Dont let the phone run out of memory.. that is also a killer. If u use LP, try ant leave it in memory. See if that improves things.
Use Elixir and see who is bugging you.
cheers !
my 2c (AT&T model but in Australia)
- stock froyo = laggy. Launcher pro or ADW helps.
- stock gingerbread = mostly fixed, would be fine for most IMO. Launcher pro flies. Blur is still there however sucking valuable juice and cycles
The ultimate solution? unlock BL and custom ROM. There is nothing wrong with this phone's hardware, its motorola's build that lets it down.
So, I have narrowed down my own lag issues to being caused by the samsung widgets. I been really annoyed with this phone and the redraws/home screen lag. Now, I have wiped, and _never_ added a samsung widget to the TW launcher, and my device is running very smoothly, with 3 home pages populated.
I came to this conclusion when I tried ADW. ADW was running well, slightly sluttery, until I added the samsung power widget. ADW was completely crippled, which makes me beleive drawing that widget takes a lot of processing. I then tried the myagenda widget with the same results. So, now, as a rule for myself, I am not running any widget that came stock on the phone.
i dont have the lag ither but i use a diff homescreen widget.
I have used launcher pro for my phones before but stayed with touch wiz on this one. I removed the stock clock and weather Alps and installed beautiful wigets and the screens are a bit snappier.

not sure i'm comfortable removing all these yet since Clockworkmod is still beta and having issues (means no nandroid backup).
I also run ADW - You should definitely run the V6 Supercharger script version 9.3.6 on setting 9 ( ends with 250,300) and i saw a big difference... also using setCPU performance setting gives me great results. still about a 10% lag i notice.... i've been bugging the devs of golauncher to optimize galaxy note and they been working with me so don't worry.... we will have our cake and eat it too, very soon!

I should have been more specific. You don't need to remove them from the phone, just remove them from your home screen.
I've been testing go launcher to see whether it suffers from home screen redraw issues and so far it seems that after about an hour of testing by using apps, keeping around 8 max apps in memory , the launcher has not redrawn yet.
The phone has killed apps but not the launcher.
Sure its a tired launcher but its fast as hell especially with animation settings at 0.5 and seems so far to be resistant to home screen redraw.
Will post back if anything changes but so far all good.
Cheers.
Nova launcher is waaaayyy better than go launcher and never redraws either!

Surely this procedure is just moving the problem elsewhere. The screen re-draws because it needed the RAM to service what you were just doing. Then you hit home and it assigns the memory back to the launcher.
So, what would the performance have been like with the app/webpage you were looking at before hitting home if the launcher is now hogging the RAM it needed. Surely instead you'll now get crashing browsers as its out of RAM.
The real cure to this is trying to reduce the amount of RAM the whole OS is using. The ROMs are huge especially compared to the S2 which never suffered with the re-draw problem as it always had loads of memory/RAM to play with.
All these new features have cost us performance as the RAM is the same as the last model. I'd rather of had 2 cores with 2MB of RAM rather than 4 cores with 1MB of RAM. How did Samsung get this the wrong way round? Guess it must have been the whole "Quad Core" marketing crap balanced with cost of production.
The problem is de-bloating and thining the ROM down to stop this RAM issues makes this an S2 with a bigger higher res screen. All the new features need to be taken out.
I experienced my first redraw on Go launcher first time i launched firefox after installation yesterday. I uninstalled immediately as I didn't like it.
This issue would suggest 1GB internal RAM isn't sufficient for the S3.

It doesn't move the problem, the oom settings were too aggressive.
I haven't had a launcher redraw since, never had an app crash and don't experience this music stopping problem that other people are having.
Its not a lack of ram that's the problem, its Samsung poor ram management settings.
Although that's not to say these roms couldn't do with losing a few pounds, 600mb+ for a rom is obscene.
Its still early days in S3 development so I'm sure the devs will sort it all out.
Remember the s2 has had loads of time for devs to fine tune every aspect of roms and kernels etc.
Modifying the launchers oom priority has worked for me so at the end of the day people can try it or not.
I'm happy with how I have my system running.

You can try moving your launcher to the system/app folder ... tha "status" of system application is different than "standard" apps.
I haven't had a redraw since the latest few jb. I completely forgot about the problem until I saw this thread.
not that it matters, but I'm on apex launcher.
I have tried this on both my Razr ICS and my gf's Galaxy Note ICS and it works.
On both phones, they are pretty fast until you start to install stuff.
After applying these, the phone is much smoother even with around 200 user apps.
1) Use Autokiller memory optimisation, root needed.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rs.autokiller&hl=en
This is a common method which android veterans already know, which is to change android's internal autokill values. This is not the same as task killers!
On both phones, I use "aggressive" preset.
For other tweaks like V8 supercharger, it's recommended values are closed to autokiller's "Extreme".
I added more tweaks to the post.
2) Turn on Force GPU rendering under developers mode. Most games and apps seem to work fine with it on.
3) Turn on background process limit to 4: I thought this is interesting (from JerseyFF) so I tried it out, seem good for daily use.
(update: after a while setting for this will revert to standard, there's no way to fix this yet)
4) Use Nova launcher. (root required for Motorola widgets)
The default launcher is smooth but it likes to reload every now and then (even with default autokill values). Tried Apex launcher but it's not as smooth as default launcher. Nova launcher is close to the default launcher which allow more tweaks and and yet it is buttery smooth. Do not update to beta though. I tried it and it's a lagfest.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher&hl=en
VM heap size app no longer works after ICS update. If anyone knows how to fix that, please share.
Feel free to add any more tweaks or tips to make RAZR ICS better.
Is this at all somehow related to the Background Process Limit that is able to be set under Developer Options with ICS now?
It has a Standard Limit setting, No background processes, and At most 1 (through 4) processes for options.
Does anyone know what the value for Standard is?
In background process limit, it limits a number of background apps running, while the autokill values limit the number of bg apps running based on the amount of memory left, and killing off lower priority processes first.
The default values for background process limit is therefore "varies".

Wow the auto killer is quite the find! Sped up my phone allot. Still running quite hot though
Thanks!
Thanks for the info, I'll confirm that upon bootup after applying the Aggressive setting, I tried scrolling around the Motoblur homescreen and thought it was smoother. But then the Superuser allowance for Autokiller kicked in right in the middle of me scrolling around and I noticed quite a difference in scrolling speed, it just suddenly got faster and smoother and the framerate looked as if it had increased by about 5 FPS. I also did tweaks #2 and 3 as well, but I think Autokiller makes the biggest difference. A good find for sure!

Use setcpu and create profiles to set cpu speed lower when screen off and when battery is overheating. There's a free, older ver on xda.
Also you can use juicedefender to make your 3g connection turn off when screen is off. This should also help keep your phone temp down when you're not using it. Note that it will turn itself on every few min to receive whatsapp, mms and emails etc. (not for whatsapp hoes)
Hi, thanks for your tips. I don't know what lag experience you experiment but I hope this works for my RAZR lags. Also when I exit any app and go to home, none of the icons of widget appears, they take half second to reapper.

When I first installed Nova launcher, it asks for root access when going into widgets.
Try going to Nova settings ->Drawer-> Check Widgets in drawer (requires root permissions for system app)
Moto widgets like fav. contacts doesn't work well because I can't "pull down"... but it's there, including Motocast widget.
You may want to manually grant Nova launcher root access.

This is why I'm using Nova launcher instead. There's a free version, do try it. It may still take a while to load the app drawer icons after playing a game, but the 'redraw' for Nova's desktop pages are pretty fast. I also liked how it switched to a tablet version when I'm using Webtop mode.
Do try Apex as well. I didn't like it as it felt laggy when I'm scrolling my desktop pages few months back. It may have improved now and many users are complimenting it. As for myself, I have already bought Nova Prime and I'm sticking to it.
Hi all,
I am on a Cyanogenmod 11 Nightly Sprint Galaxy S4. I REALLY wanted to like Themer. It looks AMAZING.
However after using it for a couple days and trying different themes, it came down to one thing - performance.
It just seemed sluggish. When I press the Home button, it took up to 3-5 seconds before switching for the active program back to the Home screen. Then I was frequently seeing a "loading" message.
Secondly, the time it took from tapping an app icon and actually seeing the app was pretty delayed.
My benchmark is that my current launcher is Go Launcher Ex. It's really quick and responsive. Match the performance of that, and I'll be switching.

hmmm what version are you running ? running latest here on galaxy s4 and have no noticeable lag when launching an app or going back using home button.Actually running really smooth here.Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling, maybe it is rom related and not themer related.

Hi,
Here is something that might help:
1. Uninstall Themer.
2. Delete the /sdcard/MyColorScreen/ folder (removing the Exported folder within it in case you saved any themes)
3. Reinstall Themer.
I've seen the "loading" issue.
I run the Note 3, and Themer runs great on it.
However, I notice that if my memory is pretty full, Themer will be 'loading' whenever I return to the home screen.
I imagine (not certain) that to not eat up too much of your phone's active memory, Themer unloads the widgets when it isn't up and using them and your free memory is low.
So when you return to the home screen, it must reload the widgets.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
However I do find that keeping a good amount of open memory eliminates the loading issue.

Same here. Nice idea but implementation is sluggish unpredictable and smoothness is dependant on theme used as well. Back to Nova.

Hi, have you tried this method, as it should help fix the issue:
1. Uninstall Themer.
2. Delete the /sdcard/MyColorScreen/ folder (removing the Exported folder within it if you saved any themes).
3. Reinstall Themer.
Hope this helps, if not, please contact [email protected] for more assistance.
