[Q] auto shutdown cyanogenmod 7 g tablet - G Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just put cyanogenmod on my g-tablet and it keeps shutting off after only 10 or 15 mins of inactivity. Anyone else experience this or know how to fix this? I tried lowering the CPU speed to 1.2 gHz but that didn't seem to fix the issue either...

I am having the same problem and just installed the .41 kernel to see if it helps. I'll let you know if it helps.

Ok cool thanks!

Check you WiFi settings. I noticed the same problem when I first loaded my tab. Someone recommended trying this... Go into settings>wireless & networks>WiFi settings, then press menu>advanced. Change the WiFi sleep policy to never.
Since doing this I haven't noticed the problem. Doesn't seem to affect battery life so I'm going to stick with the change.

I tried .41, .42, and .39 and the problem continued. I tried the "never sleep" setting you described and so far it seems to be working. Thank you so much! I am reinstalling .42 with this setting hoping its all good.

I've noticed this happens more when I use the power button to put the tab to sleep. If I use "go to sleep" from the power controls in the notification drop-down I don't seem to have a problem. But I haven't really let it sleep for a while afterwards,.

I noticed this happening AFTER I messed with the CPU settings in the CyanogenMod/Performance settings section. I didn't see it happen again after I reset it to defaults.

[Q] Wifi connection gets disabled on sleep...

I have a GTab runn Vegan 5.1 and it runs great. The one issue that I have is that my Wifi gets disabled each night when it goes to sleep. When I say "disabled" I do not mean this it disconnect, but rather that something is actually putting it into a "Disabled" state and I must select the connection and choose to enable it.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be doing this? I have dug through every setting I can think of and also looked at any apps that might be doing this. I even went so far as to remove all my battery saving apps, but no dice.
Any suggestions?

Have the sleep policy set at never and this does not change anything. From what I understand this setting will disconnect wifi when the device goes to sleep. In my case the connection is not disconnected but rather completely disabled. So it seems that there is some other thing disabling the connection.
So, to give a bit more info here, I have installed wifi keep alive to try and save the connection. This keeps the wifi from being disabled when it is plugged in, but it still gets disabled when it sleeps and is also unplugged. (I.e. on battery and sleeping)
So, I am starting to think that the setting that fixes the problem while pluggedin is settings / applications / development / stay awake. I have this turned on and it seems that with stay awake and the wifi keep alive I am good when plugged in.
So, does anyone have thoughts for a similar setting when on battery power?
I can't help to much with battery power since I almost always have mine plugged in.
It's odd that not helping you, once I made that chance I stopped having my Wifi turn itself off (not sleep, off, and the tablet would need to be reset a lot).
Sorry that wasn't much help.
Having this problem as well. Anyone know how to fix?
If you notice other weird stuff happening in the future you may need to repartition your internal memory. Mine started with similar flubs and progressed to never remembering logins online. I had to login to xda every time I turned my device back on. Keep this in mind, about 30% of people need to reformat.

"WiFi stay alive" will help you!

can you give some info as to how one would go about doing this?
For what its worth, might help to set a fixed IP address. I often got a problem with Wifi not being able to reconnect because it got stuck on "getting an IP address" and failed to do so. I seem to remember it disabled the connexion to that AP after too many tries on my Nexus One.
On my g tablet, I was having what seemed to be the same problem, so I did the same thing and it seems stable since. Granted I didn't toy with it as much as I did on the N1, but I wouldn't be supprised if it were a general Android problem.
Anyways, its free to try.
The wireless uses a lot of power. When the tablet "sleeps", it should go into a power saving mode. Disabling the wireless is a feature, not a bug.
Either way how can I keep the wifi signal on so when i wake my g tab up the wifi is ready to go and does not have to reconnect?
anyone have anything to help with this?
I am not sure, but it seems to me that downloaded apps can play with wifi this way, as long as they have rights to "access internet, modify and bla-bla-bla".
I am having same problem after sleep. And it was not present from the beginning. It may starts after I upload some app. I will play with this after coming back home.
yes please let us know thank you!

When my tablet is plugged in and it goes to sleep, the Wifi also disconnects, so I don't think this is a feature any more than the screen angle issue is a "privacy feature." I've never had an Android device that powered down connectivity when the screen goes off, that totally negates the notification features. You basically have a comatose tablet after a few minutes of the screen being off.
I don't think the Xoom or Galaxy Tab have this problem, so there's definitely an issue. Sadly, I might be sending mine back to TigerDirect as faulty because of this.
I have this problem too. As others have said, the problem isnt that the wifi turns off when the tablet sleeps. The problem is the last connected access point gets disabled so when you wake, you have to go into settings and tell it to connect again.
In my case, it happens most of the time, but not always. My Android phone doesnt have this problem.
I did a factory reset, then used nvFlash to restore, and then did a fresh install of Vegan (thought it did the same on every other 2.2 ROM I tried). I didn't install any apps, and the problem still occurs. Tried using Wifi Fixer, and the problem still occurs (though on the bright side, it does reconnect about 10 seconds or so after waking).
I'm out of ideas. I hate to send this thing back because it's the most fun piece of tech I've had in years, but a comatose Android device is a dealbreaker Going to try a GB ROM, and then I give up.
I've got the same kind of issue. I lose my PSA key in my wireless settings every time and have to re-enter it.
I installed the Vegan GB ROM (along with pershoot's kernel), and the wifi stays on if you choose "Never" for wifi sleep (you have to hit the menu button and choose "Advanced" when you're in the wifi settings). Only problem is, the GB ROMs, while zippy, are a little raw right now, and my Launcher Pro GMail widget doesn't work
I'm going to try one of the 2.2 ROMs again today along with pershoot's Froyo kernel to see if it makes a difference.
Ok, YMMV, but I am using Calkukin's ROM with pershoot's kernel (was using Clemsyn's before), with wifi set to never sleep, and my wifi doesn't sleep any more. I left my phone and tab here at work while I went out for lunch (felt naked ...), and came back about 45 mins later, woke the tab, and wifi was still connected, without that "looks connected, oh the icon is now disconnected, oh it's back again!" bit.
I still receive notifications and email, and widgets update. Guess I'm keeping it

[Q] How to set WiFi to never sleep?

Hello,
I've been using VEGAn 5.1.1 w/ Pershoot's kernel 26.32.32 for about a week now and today the WiFi started to not come back from sleep.
I've seen on other threads to set WiFi to never sleep. How do you do this? When I go to "Settings->Wireless & Networks->Wi-Fi Settings" there is no option to never sleep. Is this somewhere else or is there some other way/application needed to access the setting?
Also, does this (WiFi/sleep) work any better with Clemsyn's kernel?
Thanks,
Joe
When you go to the Wifi Settings screen, press menu. Then "Advanced". There you can adjust your Wi-Fi sleep policy.
Unfortunately, in my experience, setting it to never sleep doesn't really seem to make a difference. The tab will always go into a deep sleep, and the Wifi will go to sleep along with it. Someone suggested Load Monitor as a way to keep the Tab from going into that deep sleep, and so far that's worked for me. I just went out for about 3 hours, came home, woke the tab, and the Wifi was still active. At 10:32 I got an alert that new stories were added to Pulse, and my Tab had been inactive for about 2 hours at that point.
Update: Woke up this morning without touching the Tab, stumbled to my computer and sent a Chrome to Phone link. About a minute or so later, my Tab made the notification sound (it's usually immediate, but not always with CtP). So it would appear the Wifi stayed awake using Load Monitor. This was with the Tab plugged in, gonna try it unplugged tonight.

Ah, there it is, thank you debh945!
It's strange; I had to reboot 4 or 5 times yesterday do the WiFi going out during sleep. Even just the screen going off for a minute did it once so I don't think it was deep sleep.
This morning it woke right up fine. But it had been plugged in charging over night. I guess if it was easy it would be fixed.
Thanks again,
Joe

[Q] Wifi won't stay connected?

I've been having a problem the last week or so where when I'm on wifi it will disconnect after a couple of minutes after I lock the phone; so it always has to reconnect when I unlock it again, which is kind of annoying. I'm not really sure what's causing it but it didn't start happening until I started using Juice Defender Pro and SetDNS, so I have a feeling one or the other is responsible. I know JDP is supposed to perform a similar function when its active, but I've tried disabling that option and even uninstalling JDP and it hasn't fixed it. Does anyone have any ideas? Could it be SetDNS that's causing it? I've tried uninstalling that too. Thanks.
I don't know about sense, but this is an option in AOSP.
Going to settings>wifi, pressing menu, advanced settings, and changing the wifi sleep policy to "never when plugged in" or "never" will fix the issue. If you are running sense or this is already checked, Juicedefender or setDNS may very well be the problem.
That might be the problem; when I checked on it the setting was "Disconnect after 15 mins". I changed it to "Never" so we'll see if that changes it (not sure why it was suddenly set on the 15 min setting, I've never changed it before). Hopefully this takes care of it. Thanks for the tip!

Internet stops working with WiFi?

Hey everyone, I seem to be having issues when using wifi. When home I try to use wifi and it connects and seems to be working fine. After a while when sitting idle everything will just stops working. The phone itself seems fine, but i'll stop getting email and anything that uses internet stops working as well. To get things to start working I have to either toggle wifi or just turn wifi off.
Any ideas?
Check your battery/sync settings. If you changed to normal sync/wifi/etc will turn off after 15 minutes unless you manually change it.
Even at Performance power setting, I found my Wi-Fi would still go to "sleep" after sitting for a while. The culprit I think is the "Sleep Mode", which is enabled by default. Changing that to manual or even off should solve the problem.

You have to go to Advanced under WiFi Settings (Hit menu button) and turn always on.
Mine has the same "problem." I'm ok with WiFi turning off to save battery. I haven't been able to reliably get it to wake up.

Didn't know that, thanks!
Good call, man. I think that's why mine randomly shuts off too! Im gonna start setting sleep mode for when I sleep every night.... It says it shuts off networks when screen is off but when I turn it on, WiFi is on right away...when you turn WiFi off it takes much longer than that to power up so I don't know what networks its shutting down lol

Quirky Settings problem

I dont know if it's just something i am doing or this is a problem no one noticed. Using .28 and i noticed the Asus customiuzed settings arent holding as soon as you exit that dialog and come back. Example: ASUS Customized Settings, go to the bottom and select disconnect network during sleep, it will allow it to be checked, but as soon as you go back to it (i noticed this because the unit wasnt sleeping good) it's not checked anymore. Same with WIFI on during sleep, intermidently this changes to NEVER, then i reset it back to only when plugged in..
Someone else try this and let me know if this is something on mine or everyone has this
Thanks!
Mine does the exact same thing. It started after the. 28 update. I use Juice Defender instead now and it does a nice job of keeping everything off when it's in sleep.

I dont understand why no one else noticed this battery hogging bug!
PS. What version of JD are you using, i tried it but i started to have problems where it didnt detect the wifi signal after starting up.
I'm using the paid JD and I have the same problem with it sometimes failing to reconnect. I can usually fix it by opening the app and tapping the force wifi reconnect button and then rebooting. Annoying but better than my battery draining when I'm not using it.
