Hi, I'm new here, and I found this website with Google. I hope you already guessed that I've got a question about my phone, the XPERIA X10i.
I have looked at the website, searched and I found some promising things. Things, I would like to have on my XPERIA X10.
I took a look at the Android Development forum, and I found this. Seems very promising, but there is one problem. I don't understand a thing in this thread. The poster in that thread says that I need root on my phone to make it work. What is root? How can I get root? How can I see if I've root?
The poster also warns that he's not responsible for any problems caused by the tweaks. Can it give problems? How big is the chance that I'll get problems?
Also, I've found many ROM in the Android Development forum, what are these things? What can I do with it?
I will keep my questions short for you guys to answer, I've got more questions but I think that will be clear after a while.
Hugs,
Rachelle
Go ahead. download flash tools and root your phone.
Its in Android development section. follow the instructions.
Nothing will happen to your phone. all members here have rooted phones without problem, mee too.
Have fun in XDA. Its a phone freaks heaven
Next if you are interested after rooting get Xrecovery installed using flash tool.
if you like the idea of custom roms, find yourself a nice rom.
I suggest wolfbreaks 2.2 but there are many good roms for everyone.
If you have any issue's or problems pm me, it saves having new threads on these busy pages.
Welcome and have fun.
Sorry, but what is flashtools?

It's best to ask questions in the Q&A thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=745
Unless there has been a thread dedicated for a certain subject.
Try to search for answers before making too many posts.
Thread has already started here, so why would I make another one , and I can't find anything about the x10 boost.

Everything regarding this particular X10 Boost method is in.....

Jokes aside, since you are looking for opinions and experiences on this method and there's already a multi-page thread about it, you should have posted there and not start a new one.

In all development threads there's a warning and a "Use it at your own risk" note, which intends to save the developers/modders from the "You killed my phone, I hate you" posts.
It is true that something can go wrong when you are messing with your phone, that's why I suggest you do some reading before moving on to modding your phone.
Don't worry, we've all been there, feeling lost, not knowing what to do.

Lots of things actually, depending on what is it you do.
For example, in the X10 Boost method you're looking into, if you set too extreme values, you could face freezes, lags, reboots, apps shutting down when you need them to be running in the background...
That's why I said that if you know what you're doing, you will most probably know what can go wrong too.

Thanks, I will try it tonight or tomorrow morning. Is there some kind of way, for if it goes wrong that I can make my phone again ''normal''?
This guy is obviously a newbie so break him in gently. Rooting is a good place to begin but pushing him towards custom roms is pushing it a bit too far for now.

Yes, there are quite a lot of ways actually.
You can backup with xRecovery or flash a stock ROM with Flashtool or repair with SEUS or PC Companion.
Search for the FlashTool thread, download it, root your phone, install xrecovery and read the several guides around here.

Hi guys.
EDIT for the people who dont read
I know there are custom roms for the X10!
My question is whether there are FULL custom roms that replace the stock completely (like HTC phones for example)
back to original post:
I've been out of the X10 world for a while but looking to get a second phone and the price/hardware of the X10 makes it interesting (although I hated it when I had my first one due to the software restrictions)
I had a bit of a read, and it would seem the bootloader has been cracked.
Can we already get full custom roms to the X10, or are we still using xexec tricks to boot a different kernel?
I'm sure the answer must be somewhere in here but I could not find it clearly.
thanks

Yeah. Did you really ask this question?
There are two kinds of custom ROMs for the Xperia x10
1. Using default 2.6.29 kernel by SE, but built with different system files. An example of this would be WolfBreak's CM, and Trip's MIUI
2. Using a customized 2.6.29 kernel, loaded via the kexec exploit. An example of this would be Jerplea's CM7 ROM, RC4 V014 k001 preview.
Next time, at least read the THREAD TITLES BEFORE POSTING

It is the only way to boot custom Kernels ... and it's not less worth than the other ways to boot Kernels ... and the ROMs we have here are very good.

You know, I thought this thread would end up like this.
there are always people who believe everyone should know everything and live and breathe on the xda forum.
I know there are custom roms, but that was not the question, just the title of the thread.
I will edit my first post to avoid confusion.
now for the ones who wish to help.
My impression was the current ROMs were actually piggybacking from the stock SE.
thus the performance was not as good as a, let's say, HTC with same specs.
my question is whether we can flash a rom on the phone, the same as with HTC phones, and completely replace/erase, and not have anything to do with stock anymore since I really dispised the Sony software.

Its not possible to flash directly to the phone yet and maybe never. For this you need to crack the bootloader.
its so dificult to read and search ? stop asking questions in dev thread for this xda created Q&A section ! thx

In short... there are many really nice roms, all of them still on SE kernels except the one from J. My favourite is trips MIUI and it works like a charm. I don't give a **** about whether it runs on stock or modified or a completely rewritten kernel as long as all the things i care for work. And i think in the end that's what counts. To have a fully functional phone that you enjoy using. Sure 30fps limit removal is nice but hey how many can really tell the difference in everyday use? More likely to prove to themselves they had been right when they payed for x10, and yes it can do this and that other thing....
Base is if you like it as a phone buy it if not then go buy something else and not this one, trying to prove that it's something else than it really is...
personally i love it since day one 11 months ago. loved it on 1.6, 2.1 and now on 2.2
And yes: wrong thread m8. u should post in Q&A
pretty sure all the custom roms aren't piggybacking the stock s.e and they are flashed to the nand thus replacing it - the only thing that couldnt be changed was the kernel, which can be now
you can tell it's been a bad day for people on xda forums when they belittle you while not even answering the question you ask....
It is getting close to removing the restrictions SE have applied to their Kernal...
The work the devs are doing here and speed they are doing it will get some nice custom kernals and roms before 2.3 is released by SE...
Hopefully alot sooner...
Good luck in your decision.
~Mod move to Q&A please... Might be more helpful for others aswell as OP!

thanks for the answer.
that was my understanding as well.
I sold my X10 a few months back when they still had the first custom roms, back then i was following all the thread, and knew of the progress.
It would seem things have got better since then but still quite not there yet.
PS: I like your signature ;-)
Yes there's are a few
And right now there is:
- A modded kernel for TripNMiUI (Complete 2.2 Miui) with no frame cap
- A complete vanilla FroYo
- A few complete CM6.1.3 ROMS
- A few WIP ROMS that will get completed from Trip (I hope! (; )
- CM7 isn't far from completion
- And kernel work is making progress
So overall its a good times to join the X10 community with all the progress recently x)

Trip released a Cyanogen 6, which was modified by Wolfbreak.. aside from all mounts being rw and confusion that since followed, it's a complete Froyo. There's many other great choices so in future, search and post questions into q&a
Edit: Trips froyo was based on Zdzihu. The next big issue is the CM7 Gingerbread.

Ok, So pretty much what I have here is the Droid x2 and I want to root it, BUT, I don't know how and I don't want to screw my phone up, so I'm looking for someone to explain in detail step by step how to do it because then I can do it on my own from there, any help would be great, i'm just looking for a textbook definition and a simple step by step process on how to do this without bricking my phone, again any help with be great thanks.
I think you may find this thread useful, if not have a good look around the Droid Incredible forums as this thread came from there.
I was just looking for someone who could explain how to root and the whole process kinda from scratch because there are hundreds of threads to look through and that's just asking for eye sores.. I'm just looking for someone who can explain how to get the files I need and the whole process in a simple 1,2,3 step manner...

It says one click root for droid3 but it is same for all moto devices running gingerbread.
just be sure u are on Android version 2.3.3 or 2.3.4
U can verify ur android version by going to settings >about phone> android version
if u are on 2.2.2 then press the button on top of about phone that says system updates and follow instructions to update ur phone to gingerbread(2.3.x)
Good luck and make sure to follow ALL directions EXACTLY (feel free to pm me if u need help)
Thanks a lot, I'll take a look at it.
Ok, so I used the one click root and it worked... now im wondering, now that its rooted, What can i do with it, say change the button lay out and other stuff like that the theme, and so on
You can run ROMs on your phone now using boot strap recovery. I use Eclipse but there are other great ROMs available as well. Just make sure you understand what version of android each ROM works with.

Do u mean the hardkey layout? I haven't seen a mod for that yet but it may be possible.
U can also now remove/freeze the bloat u don't use if u want((u know...those pesky apps that keep running even after u kill em. Taking up ram and just getting on ur nerves cuz u can't kill it. Like blockbuster, kindle, etc...)) there is a list in the forum of which are safe to freeze/remove.
Just be sure to read before u try. Then read again. Then some more. Then when u feel u r comfortable with what the mod does to ur phone, make sure u follow all directions EXACTLY and have fun and enjoy the different available mods, scripts, hacks, and of course Roms. U will be addicted in no time to flashing roms and making nandroid backups.
O yeah. Best thing u could EVER do right now is MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP using system recovery app from the link above. Trust me. U will be happy u did it when u end up needing one as we all have at one point.
I also recommend posting any question u have in this thread or a thread that pertains to ur question as starting a new thread wit a question that's been asked a hundred times wont get a good reaction

I find that "noobs' are more or less "afraid" that they will brick and are just looking for info and guidance on how NOT to do that.
But that's the great thing about these types of forums. If u don't wanna help then don't. There is no need to be mean. Im not saying that u or booked were outright mean but if u can see that the OP has already been pointed in the direction and/or is receive help them why post telling him to do everything himself when he obviously doesn't have to. I was a noon my self at one point and yeah I did a TON of reading and rereading but some things don't set in until its said specifically and I have asked my fair share of "noob" questions also. Everyone has to start somewhere.
I don't even know where im going with this other than just be respectful and be nice lol
I creeped these forums (and all others) for a good 6 months before I even laid my first post. I googled everything, and READ! And you know what? I learned a fair amount.
The last month has been horrible. You see the same question/scenario in almost every subforum on here. The problem is, Android exploded as well as "modding" and became popular, and now everybody is tinkering.
I've only been involved with android for a year and a half, but when I got in it was almost a 'niche' cult type of thing. It was kind of uncool because it wasn't an iPhone. I loved it, I actually miss it. I remember showing my friends what a DROID 1 was capable of with a custom overclocked kernel.

Hey guys! I've lurked around here for a while. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S II for ATT a few months ago after being a longtime iPhone user. Therefore, I'm fairly new to the whole Android tweaking process. I want to install an ICS ROM onto my phone, particularly CM9. I've read the stickies, and am really trying to understand, but at the same time, do not wish to brick my phone. So could someone tell me if this is correct? Or where I'm wrong? Based on what I've read here, to install ICS, I need to...
1. Root my phone as outlined in the thread for that. (The one about not activating the yellow triangle. Since I'm on 2.3.6, I'll need to use "Odin3 One-Click Downloader".)
2. Backup my apps and texts and crap using Titanium Backup to my SD card.
3. Install the proper kernel (where do I find this?) using Mobile Odin.
4. Make sure CWM is active, backup NAND (I assume this is an option?) and flash CM9.
5. Flash Google Apps.
6. Restore my Ti backup.
Thanks guys for the help! And sorry if I'm being stupid/completely misunderstanding.

Read, read and read some more. Do a search for Hellraiser as there are no true ICS ROMs for this phone yet, only i900 ports.
If you need to ask questions like this, you are not ready for ICS and ICS is not ready for you.
Since I9100 kernel source code has only been out for a week and we had a bunch of I777-specific **** to fix - while lots of progress has been made things are not quite working yet.
man some people are rude in here....
And others are lazy. Welcome to XDA.
There are a lot of different roms. Usually they rewrite the kernel within the install of the rom. But basically you have the right idea...

This is a legit question. He's done the research and just needs a little reassurance. If you can't help keep your troll mouth shut.

Actually, it isn't a legit question as there is not yet a legit ICS ROM for the i777.
You're logic is just plain wrong. What has that got to do with anything, you just like to troll.

Facts are facts, loser. There is not yet a fully-functioning official ICS ROM released for the i777, so any talk of one is premature. The guy admits in the title of this thread that he is a noob and doesn't quite understand. These are exactly the people who should not be flashing ANYTHING, let alone a ROM that is not ready for primetime. But keep on encouraging him and others so that the forum gets filled with people needing help to fix what they messed up. I'm sure you'll be rewarded with tons of adulation for your efforts. Troll indeed.

Like the majority of us, we were excited when we got out SIII's however all the information you need is contained with the SIII walls on this particular corner of XDA. What people are suggesting is you take a look for yourself first and have a read of all things before asking such a question as the answer is but a quick look around.
So, instead of spoon feeding, go for a wander and have a look. You will be amazed at all the info there.
Find the latest leak firmware and use odin to flash it on ur phone

As Mr Tuff said......we at XDA are here to serve you and all your smartphone needs. please put your phone into download mode open Odin and click repartition and add any random .Tar file ( jellybean will be in there somewhere, have faith ) then click start.
now once you do this you will need to send your phone off to a repair shop where they will activate your newely installed JB build on your phone.
then just wait.........
Hope this helps......................................Probably will not though, lol

Honestly, and I'm not saying this to be rude to you in any way. But more a concern when reading your posts.
You honestly don't sound like someone who should start messing with flashing and rooting........

What he said.
If you can't follow those excellent HOWTOs & FAQs you surely DON'T want to flash your phone. If you have a specific question, ask in the thread about flashing and installing. This here won't help you a bit.

Ya, I agree with this.
Op, just enjoy your phone for now the way it is, the JB leaks are not for people with little experience in these matters.
Hang around xda for a while and learn how things work here, learn why making these threads is frowned upon, read through the JB threads, learn from them.
Then, when you feel comfortable enough to flash it on your own, you are ready to give it a go.

Thread closed, we are not here to spoonfeed you, search and read.
On another note, let's NOT start personally attacking people, report, ignore DO NOT RESPOND.
I understand your frustration, do you know what poor sod has to close all these threads?
But thats not an excuse to flout the rules, and bash people, be calm, be cool, IGNORE and report!
Now carry on and have a happy XDA experience (tm)
