This is a development question, but I felt it should be in Q&A, so I hope some developer will see it.
Is there any way we can manipulate values like hue, saturation, gamma for our displays? Is it kernel/GPU/firmware/none of the above related?
Thanks in advance!

It is possible.
It's GPU related.
Some roms already have similar features. "not quite as in depth"
But it would be a very nice feature to have.
BTW.. i dropped yo a pm.

I got the idea because I updated my NVidia drivers today on my PC and messed with the settings a little! LOL!
It would be interesting if it could be done for our phones...
I think they could use a bit more saturation maybe.

I found this while searching for you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840370
I have been always interested in this possibility too..i tried many times in the past to find out how to do that..but without results! It would be fantastic if we can find a way to do this!

The vibrant is basically just the I9000 (form factor wise anyways).
The mounting stuff was not taken out, just the camera itself, so our hack to get the FFC working is just to snap it in & install a new kernel that supports it.
The I9000 didn't have a flash, so it's not that easy for the vibrant. It doesn't have anything to mount it to or anywhere to plug it in at all.
So, if it's possible, it would probably be a significant hack to accomplish.
Thanks Dude. I figured that if it could be done it wuld have already been done. Oh well I wait till August and get whatever is out then.

this is why all the devs left XDA and started all their own forums because the amount of useless new threads opened is pathetic. Even Cyanogen doesnt mess w/ XDA anymore becazuse ppl dont bother to read anymore....they should remove the new thread button in vibrant android dev forum unless u register as android dev and a MOD approves u...this has gotten waaaaaaaay out of hand
I've been working on a custom mod of mine own with 3 led on my back plate and cover everything with a external another back cover. I'm almost done with the project.

That is the kind of arrogance that makes me glad of the types that left. Yes theres a FAQ, and yes, there are a few that wont read it. Honestly, the FAQ (at least in the vibrant forum) is a frakin mile long! I can easily see how someone may miss it. Informative yes, but give people a break! Not to mention the breakup into 4 separate sub-forums ect ect, its easy for someone new or doesnt come often to not find their way around well.
Been going on for years, and will persist after you leave.
It's not a completely stupid or worthless question because I see it as do-able. I'm no dev...nor have I worked with the hardware on this phone, but I have thought about integrating a luminous LED as part of the flash. I think it could be as simple as finding th current that turns the camera lens on and integrating the LED power into it. Even if it doesn't 'Flash'...it's still a 'flash' equivalent lighting setting.
The FFC was do-able...I think someone can make a suitable flash for our camera.
Makes me want to work on it myself...
I spent a good 10-15 minutes in the camera app trying to figure out how to turn on flash before I realized the phone didnt have a flash on it! What a surprise damn you samsung!

course a flash would be lovely.but realistically the request to some how install a flash even when no original i9000 variant have a flash built into the unit to simply snap in is ridiculous. lollll
Don't be so quick to judge, I myself have wondered what if this phone had a flash. Honestly, it'd be friggin sweet! That goes without saying.
@Haxel: Awesome points, great attitude!
@p unit: I'm intrigued by your project, have you thought about somehow incorporating an LED flash into an extended battery back plate? More battery life, and maybe since the cover is bigger, you might have more room to work with on fitting a flash in.
good luck!

They are talking about a physical flash a light. not the light software program.
I thought it was a great question since the Fascinate has one. I don't see why having a moderator approve your question would be necessary, since none of the questions would ever get posted since they are questions that are usually way below their intelligence level. Let's be honest here, we as junior members look to developers, kangers and such for advice, guidance, and help. Having an attitude toward the people that look up to you for your knowledge, is pompous, arrogant, and simple minded. If you think there are too many questions, then don't read the posts (you should know what it's about by the title anyway). If you don't have anything to contribute other than a bad attitude, then don't respond and the rest of us will learn the hard way. You guys who don't want to read our questions weren't born with the knowledge you have, so don't assume that just because someone has a question, doesn't mean they haven't tried. Give some of us the benefit of the doubt. We don't all have our faces crushed into a computer screen all day you know........

I have seen an external clip-on type of flash light that you can clip it on your phone and take picture in the dark. I forget which website I saw it. However, it is still in production and not yet available until probably mid or end of this year, so just keep your eyes open.

Hey Ppl Let's Try To Make Enogh Noise to give the live a subforum instead of relying
on the Mini/Mini pro/Ray & Active subforum.
how are you going to do that?

That's why we need a proper forum to work in development would be much better if we had the space of our own forum
Am I the only one who sees this as a redundant idea?
Why make a subforum for a device that is almost identical to the mini/mini pro/active, that so far has no development on it other than FXP. The only reason Xperia Ray has a different development subforum is because it has a completely different screen size, along with different internals. Instead of petitioning for a possibly completely empty subforum, try and help to fill up the already development-wise Mini/minipro/live/active subforum.
Splitting each device differently has various negative impacts. Since they are identical, most apps will work on all of these 4 phones. For example the 4x4 home. It works for all. The quick menu, etc etc etc. Having each phone in a different subforum will drive off people who can work between devices.

well these threads will get lost becaus off litle support, then what about adding the name to the forum of MINI/PRO/Active because maybe some devs can't find it on XDA
Yeah the Live isn't even in the name of the sub forum we at least need a a little recognition

So, my previous phone was a HTC Rezound, and the camera was better good, but the software sucked. Somebody who was good with cameras did tests and found good setting for the hardware, and it made a world of difference. Anybody here really good with cameras and would like to do the same? I would, but I really don't know anything about advanced settings. Here's a LINK to the thread if anybody would like to take a look at it. :good:

My question is this:
Is there anyway to port floating touch to Xperia Sole's brothers? In particular i'm interested in doing this for Xperia Go. due to his characteristics i think it would be great if you can use it with gloves!! I'm asking this because one of my closest friend is a Chef and bought the xperia go to use it in the kitchen but he always has gloves on so he dream of Glove Mode for his Xperia Go!
I know that there are some hardware issues, but i want to ask anyway. Hopefully a hell good dev here can try so!
Thanks in advance!

Your friend can use a conductive thread n make some knots of it on his gloves ! its a thread that can conduct charge and washes like a normal thread ... google " make a glove work with touch screen" u ll get it there... no need to develop anything for GO
Well its not about a developer spending hours and porting it. What you are talking about it like removing a hardware component and porting into your xperia go, which isnt possible right at this moment!
Xperia sola hosts dual touch sensors while all other phones just have one! Single capacitance and mutual capacitance touch sensors!
And one of those enable floating touch! Its not an app but a hardware!
For more info read about it on sony website! Hope it helped

ok thanks for the infos. it is just that for mine Galaxy s Plus they have done something similar by working on some touchscreen value. we have also an app now to control it. Here is the thread

Well yeah that may work as the app is used to increase the sensitivity of detecting electrical impulses which allows it to detect it a bit above the screen! Well thats what I think!

Hi guys,
I've just bought myself a new SGSIII, and as a huge android development fan I instantly started to think of rooting it. I've moved from a 'grandpa' i9000, which was slow and laggy, so rooting and installing custom ROMs was my only hope. But on the i9300 there is no lagg at all, the phone is flying. So the question is - is S3 worth rooting? What advantages and how much of them could you exclude? (I don't count JB 4.2 as an advantage as I've been using it on my old phone for quite a long time and even got bored by it..)
Thanks!

I did, but I didn't find anything new in there, just the basic info. I know what rooting is and what does it do, I just wanted to know how much does it affect particularly i9300.

It's still not what I asked . Of course rooting does the same thing, but what I'm interested in is the opinion of S3's users about it - how much of a boost was it, are custom ROMs more handy than stock and so on. These things differ.

It is what you asked. rooting opens the same doorways to new features and a higher level of control on any phone to the same degree. IMHO every phone should be rooted for these reasons.

And I want to know what these doorways lead to. Maybe OCing or installing/uinstalling any particular app/kernel/ROM gives a performance boost. I'm not interested in the fact that I am able to browse or make changes in more directories than normally. I want to know if it's possible to make a difference in S3's performance and how big the difference would be.
Work it out yourself man.

Yes you can alter performance and those alterations can be construed as perceivable.
