So , my problem started yesterday and whenever I connect to 4g I'm not actually able to connect to anything online. Everything works fine over 3g and WiFi but everytime I'm ok 4g , I get nothing . I live in Philadelphia , and in a 4g service area. I've tried a master reset and still nothing. Does anyone have a way to fix it . I tried a search but wasn't able to fond any info for my problem . Thanks in advance for all your help.

Having the same problem in the same area. I called Sprint just now, the rep said it wasn't the towers. I have a OG EVO, I'm about to power up and test out. If it works fine, I'm returning the 3D until they issue a fix. This one was a replacement for one that was running hot, but I noticed weak 4G speeds on that one also.
I actually went through your same ordeal on TWO 3vo's.....third one was a charm.. nothing will fix it, so you'll have to take it back to Sprint for a new one.

Thanks I'll stop in a store tomorrow. Hope 3 is the charm for me too, or I will go back to my OG for awhile. I need my 4G hotspot.
The rep mentioned there was a (bad batch) that was having problems. I was honestly almost going to cancel service and go back to sprint. Once you get a 3vo with no issues you're going to LOVE the phone. And just wait ti'll we have an unlocked bootloader....lol

Thanks for the update. I'm from the philly area as well. I'm going to keep mine on 4g all day to see if i also get the intermittent connection. Sometimes it will work then sometimes it won't
I was having the same issues yesterday. I spent like 2 hours talking with Sprint doing ##3282# data profile restores until the 5th rep says it’s a nationwide issue. The connection showed full reception on my 3D and my wife's OG EVO, but the connection to the internet or any other data services was intermittent. Seems to be fine today.
this was working fine today but stopped working about an hour ago. anyone else have this issue???

sadly this is not only a evo 3d problem...i have an epic 4g and have been experiencing the same problems, the 4g connects yet no webpages will load and apps wont connect to the internet. 4g sometimes starts working again but then it stops again. If anyone can find out what the hell is going on it'll be a great help.
I've had issues where certain apps don't get internet access while on 4G but the web browser always seems to work. I know Scrabble from EA didn't like the 4G, and Google Music didn't either.

everyone is honestly too quick to jump the gun and return their phones. It's quite silly and alarmist.
Just reset it or wait it out; that usually solves most problems.
This is my second evo 3d, this one works fine till today, i work at Bethesda ,MD, the 3g works fine, my 4g no way this evening, they need to solve this problem asap, or else they are going to loose customer, evo 4g has good reputation, E3D please don't destroy that reputation.
They responded to me on their Facebook wall, Wimax cell sites are down (intermittent data issue on 4G). They're working to bring them up.

I'm in Philly and I'm having the same issue (for the past two days now, actually). As of 9:53 EST in Center City Wimax is down, and it was down around 7:50 am today. Yesterday (Monday), I had connection problems from Noon to 4 (in Center City), but could connect to SpeedTest around 5:50 pm in Mt Airy.
If it is just the wimax cell sites being down, as opposed to a bad 4G attenca in my phone, does anyone know of a way to check besides calling Sprint? Their reps vary wildly in competence (or at the least, some suck at reading their memos/emails), and I don't want to have to call 80 of them to get a straight answer :/

Yeah, I noticed Someone had mentioned in this thread that he'd had two 3vos with busted antennas, so I'm a little worried (I've had an amazing streak of non-defective electronics purchases, and I'd hate for this phone to end my streak LOL).
As of 10:40 Am EST in downtown Philly, with 1 bar of 4G and 4 bars of signal strength, I have Wimax data transfer (3.20 Down and 0.07 up, 115ms ping). That's after updating my PRL then my profile while 4G was on. I'm guess they're currently working on getting the WImax cells up.

has anyone else had issues with 4g turning off randomly? the first several days i had this phone, i could get a 4g signal anywhere in my apartment. i know because i had serious issues with sprint signal in my apartment, so i practically haven't put this phone down since i got it.
yesterday i was tethering on 4g a lot and when i disabled tethering the 4g radio turned off and i just had two bars, but it didn't say 4g OR 3g. i went into the settings dialing *#*#4636#*#* or whatever it is and enabled LTE only mode (it had been on 3g/4g auto). when i did that, i had 4g for about 30 seconds to a minute and then it went to 3g. same thing happened this morning. maybe they are playing with the towers because as im typing this i see i have auto switched back to 4g. hmm.

I received my TB on Friday afternoon and had 4G all day and night until this morning. Woke up, powered the phone on and had only 3G. 4G came back after an hour or so.
I bought mine last week and didn't have any problems until this morning. For the first time I left the power off overnight and when I turned it back on I couldn't get a 3G or a 4G signal. It's been an hour now and I still don't have a signal. I've commuted from Maryland to DC in that time so it's not the area.

this is discussed in multiple threads already, you might search them out, but yes, many have the issue. I have that issue specifically that you mention, but even more frustrating also get time where the 4G icon is there, and there is zero data connectivity; all apps show "network connection required".
Sems like LTE isn't rock-solid service yet.
I have the same problem after I rooted last night. I had 4G everywhere in my house. Now I get mostly 1X and maybe 3G if I am lucky. The radio version was much higher before.

I called Verizon. there is a known issue with 4g Tbolt. they said they are working on it. Coworkers with 3g phones are having no issues. I am still getting 1x if i am lucky. Chicago area.

I am also have the same problem as of this morning. Just called Verizon and they said they are working on it. Now my phone is stuck on 1X I am in Queens NY right now coming from the Bronx...funny thing when I power down the phone and turn it back on it stays on 4G for about a second and disconects
I am also having issues with 4G going in and out. I had not had any issues until this morning and it was a bit worrisome as I just rooted last night and I was afraid something I had done might have caused an issue. But it seems like a national problem being addressed, so I'll just wait it out I guess.

I'm having same issue,but mine happened just after I rooted my phone.Before rooting I had never seen my phone go into 3G mode,but now it goes to 1x or nothing.Hopefully its an issue on Verizon's end and not my phone.

Yup confirmed with tech support, there's a nationwide outage with 4g data and they are working it with the highest priority, the tech said. Ah the costs of new technology. Always will have issues at start.
With this evo 3d i cant seem to get a decent data speed during the day time, at night i can get like 500kbs and during the day nothing over 150kb takes forever to download small files from market, i was a mile from the tower today and i still only had like 37% signal strength and was connected at 1x speed, ive tried the data reset. Ive tried calling sprint and htc and no one seems to know of the issue, i dunno if i should keep this phone and hope for a fix or take it back, im dropping calls and cant hear people at home now. im looking for you all to shed some light on this situation

Ya I'm having terrible data speeds too...tried all the hacks, and they helped a bit. But still really bad..I have a tp2 as well and it slowed down a bunch around the beginning of the year as well...Sprint offered an airrave but I don't have cable or dsl so I'm stuck...if you got cable ask retentions for one...they really tried to help me..YMMV..but worth a shot...oddly enough I got a tower Sprint tower at the end of my property, go figure..

One of them is fine, the other is crazy slow on the data connection. I'm going to go through re-provisioning and everything, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up replacing it. Which sucks because I put a screen protector on it.

guys, your phone is working just fine. Its the network thats having the issues. you may have noticed that it got worse when you got your new phone cause a lot of people were buying the evo3d and it slowed down the network. Sprint has major issues with congestion in some areas right now. I know michigan is really bad right now.

Not necessarily true. I just did a speed test on both of my Evo 3D's at the same time sitting right next to each other. One phone got a ping of 1346ms and the other got a ping of 238ms. There is clearly something wrong with the first phone. It's noticeably slower when doing any task that uses the data connection.
horrible speeds here. just did a speed test, 51kb down, 6kb up. typical speeds for me since getting the phone. i have one tower east of me, one tower west, both within a mile.
Look to see if your evdo is set to cdma only... Changing mine to auto has made my data speeds normal again

My 3d sucked and would always get high ping/low data (under 100kbps). I called there was no outage and they said to take my phone in... I never did due to the "service center" is about 120miles away but they gave a month of free service (130 dollars)
Because I've had a nexus s 4g,EVO 4G, and now a EVO 3d all with the same problem...
About a week ago I ran a speed test and i hit 2.1mbps download... And have been getting great data speed ever since...
I dunno what happened I think it was just the network but even during "peak hours". I still get 1600kbps so I guess it worked its self out :/

Well I'd say call in and "*****".
My aunt has had sprint in our town for 3 years and she never got anything close to 600kbps as they advertised...
Now for some reason they must have upgraded our towers or something.
But either way call in ***** and get a few dollars off your bill... No point paying for a service if its not what they advertise. Or if your unhappy

It's def a network issue. I congestion issues. It drags during peak hours and runs ok at night. I ran speed tests on multiple phones all were awful. EVO, epic, and 3D. Plus sms was down for a few hours. Def network issues!

Sprint stores suck..before I returned my first e3d I called cs and they made a service ticket and sent me to a Sprint store .they told me where to go..anyways I get there and they act like there are aggravated that Sprint cs sent me there and said they have nothing to do with Sprint..looked like a Sprint store to me..anyways they tell me they can't run diagnostics because there is no equipment to do so yet..and since I was in my thirty day Window they wouldn't touch it..kinda sucked because the Phone was great besides the service..which maybe could of Been fixed If they would of tried..anyways returned it, got one with a blown speaker ..another return..Now I got another one with a seemingly weak radio..better than the first one at least..but not even closeto the one with the blown speaker....thank god for my airwave. I get 1.5 mb/s with that at least
This is probably posted in this thread or some other thread, but when I got my phone and activated it, I had Sprint do a data refresh/reset...whatever the hell they call it and I updated my PRL and what-not. I have not had any data issues beyond normal.
Although for the life of me I can't seem to get a 4G connection, but that could just be the area I'm in. It's very spotty here in Apple Valley.
And no...no connection to Cupertino...the city is really called Apple Valley. There's one in California too.
So... About 4 days ago, I noticed that I couldn't connect to 4G anymore, but 3G works fine. You can imagine how many times I went to recovery, cleared data, wiped, re-flashed, all the while thinking it was the ROM that had problems.
The answer came to me in the form of my younger brother. He has the Evo Shift and also had been having issues with his 4G. Now his phone is stock, so that ruled out the ROM being the issue (thank GOD I thought I somehow screwed my WiMax). So he tells me there was a power outage about 4 days ago at around 3am, since then he hasn't been able to connect.
What I'm thinking is- IT'S BEEN 4 DAYS... You guys here who work at Sprint, do you think a small power outage can bork the 4G network for 4 days?
And if so, how come it hasn't affected the 3G network as well?
Maybe It's another issue altogether...

4G is WiMax and 3G is EVDO so one getting knocked out might not affect the other....also, if they haven't had reports about that particular tower, they might not know to fix it.

Can a power outage kill 4G? Certainly. Cell towers work like many other electronic devices, and are still prone to things getting shorted (Even if there are several layers of protection to try and stop that). I would honestly recommend calling tech about it and seeing if the towers near you have any posted outages, or at least report the issue.
They likely cannot fix the issue unless they know about it, and if everyone presumes everyone else will report the issue; it may never get reported.

I'll call tomorrow and bother someone over at the local sprint. I'm just wondering how did the 4G go out and not the 3G network. Oddly enough I also noticed the 3G network is slightly faster now... i.e. - I could never watch HD movies on Youtube without having the 4G on, now since of course I can't connect I tried on 3G and it didn't skip a beat. Maybe breathing too much spray paint fumes is making me crazy
The 4G sits on a separate tower from the Sprint tower's as the 4G is provided via Clear.

Okay, starting this morning my 4g will connect (says ip address and connected to sprint) yet will not pull down any data. That includes no webpages or if I try speedtest it hangs at testing ping. Zero data. I'm currently using warm rom with stock kernel for the past few weeks. Definitely not a 4g service issue as someone with an Evo 4g was able to pull data with no problem standing next to me today. Tried wiping all and flashing the latest warm rom to no avail. Any ideas? Anything else I should try?

I have no data also. Never rooted and with the original stock firmware (so if I want to root) and the most recent PRL. I am in Boston if that matters. 3g works just fine.

Thank you that makes me feel a little better as I am in the Boston area as well. Really strange though that someone with an original evo was able to down 4g data today. I might give sprint a call to check on any outages.
Talking to sprint now and they say NO network outages in Boston area. Strange.
I had this issue in the morning a day or two ago but it went away after an hour or so. Problem returned this morning and have had to use 3G since then because Wimax isn't working.
I'm on the latest Warm nightly and too am in Boston. Sounds like it's specific to Boston.

Let us know what they tell you at the store. Hard to believe that this many of us are experiencing the exact same issue and its not on sprints end. Lol I forget how slow 3g can be as most of my travels are normally covered with 4g. Hope its back online soon. Anyone else in the Boston area that wants to chime in?

An OTA should not affect it since I haven't upgraded since the first one. Also, people that I know who have the Evo 4G can use data just fine.

Wow, glad I found this thread! I got the same problem on Nexus S 4G located near Norwood. In my case, I just got a replacement phone yesterday. 4G was fine yesterday but today, nothing. I was starting to think I got a defective phone. The worst part is that with 4G enabled, I got a signal so it doesn't even try to fall back to 3G. I just checked Settings > About phone > Status > Mobile network state says Disconnected when 4G is turned on.
I can only get 4G service while at work so if they've disabled it, I'm gonna be mad!

No data here as well in beverly ma. It shows as connected but no data flow.

can't speak for everyone else but i don't mind at all. Just don't like the fact that Sprint has no idea whats going on and sending people to local stores to me is BS! they should be more informed of something this major going on and not making everyone think there phones are junk! all they have to do is inform their customers of the testing and to put their phone on 3G! i had no idea of that and had no data till i went to the local store today and they told me to put it on 3G.
I've made references to this in Q&A, so apologies if you've read this already.
Simply put, my mobile data does not work on this phone. What I'm finding is if I leave a WiFi network or go to/from Sprint to roaming data, the hand-off to cellular data never happens as one of three things invariably occurs:
a) Mobile Data is stuck in 'turning on...' and thus I have no signal at all;
b) I have signal but no throughput (the up/down arrows never light up and I get no data connection);
c) the phone just reboots.
So basically if I change my network state, I can't go back until I reboot. Toggling Mobile Data does nothing in any of these instances. Now I expect holes in the software during a device release, but not holes you can drive a truck through. If anyone is experiencing the same issue or has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. If it's not solved by the end of my 14-day rescission period, this thing is done for.
I had this same exact problem. Update your profile and PRL. That fixed it for me but I dunno if that will fix the problem permanently. Might be a hardware defect but I hope it was just a prl/profile issue.

I've tried updating my profile and PRL and unfortunately that did nothing, and moments ago I gave up and called Customer Care to reactivate my OG EVO.
Of course, 30 seconds after that was all done the representative told me there's an EVDO data issue/outage that has been persistent in Philadelphia since the 22nd. You'd think they'd tell their store reps this valuable information, but such is not the case. I'm going to try running some tests on my OG EVO for comparison's sake and see how much truth they're telling me before I put the LTE back in the box and tell Sprint where they can shove it.
I have noticed some quirkyness with the WiFi/3g handoff on the phone on stock and viperROM. I am in the Philly market too, possibly the issue.

It's becoming unbearable. I lose my 3g connection about 3 times a day. But today, it's lost it about 20 times and that's no exaggeration. It's lost mobile data at least 5 times in the last hour. HTC has got to do something about this.

So I reactivated my OG EVO and sure enough, 3G data speeds are nothing short of awful in the 19103 area (~6KB/sec on average), compared to the 19106 area a mile or so away -- there's definitely an EVDO issue in the area. However, the OG EVO is not exhibiting the same WiFi/roaming hand-off issues that the EVO LTE is; that has to be a software issue specific to the phone. Seeing as I frequently walk in and out of various WiFi blankets throughout the city several times every day, this bug is a deal-breaker for me.
When I leave a wifi area I've noticed it takes a very long time to pick up 3G. It was nearly instant on my E4GT.
I just had the same issue with my mobile connection. Updating my profile and PRL seemed to do the trick. Changing from wi-fi to mobile also takes over a minute...
change your phone from cdma/lte mode to cdma mode, did the trick for a few friends of mine.
I've also been having the same issues. My phone will just drop 3G and go to roaming or no signal at all constantly. I also live in the Philly area so I'm hoping since we're in the second wave to get LTE that its just Sprint working on the network but I'm starting to suspect that we have a serious problem with our phones. Im on my second phone & a few different ROMS including stock & I've been having the problem since pre relase while my wife's Samsung E4GT has had no issues.

Well I took the advice from another thread and switched from CDMA/LTE to CDMA only & I haven't had any issues with my 3G dropping or with the WiFi to 3G handoff. Don't know if that fixed the problem or if Sprint just isn't working on the towers today.

Okay this is starting to piss me off. I loose 3G service anytime I unlock the phone. In my house I can not keep a call connected to save my life, even though I have 4 bars. My 3G just looses signal. Its not when I switch from WiFi. It just does it on its own.
The first thing I tried was to turn the CDMA/LTE to just CDMA, tested this for 2 days nothing. I updated both Profile and PRL.... nothing.
I am really tempted to walk into a Sprint store and through down because this is unacceptable. And this happened to my first EVO LTE, so I returned it within my 14 days, got a second one and its doing the same thing. I thought well maybe its because I am in the Chicago Subbards but I have been in 2 other states and I have the same issue.
Anyone know of a fix or when HTC will actually fix their newest phone? I mean come on really guys, how is this okay?

Also, I tried turning off NFC and that doesn't help either.
And is anyone else's EVO get REALLY hot?

Have the same issue on 2 diffrent EVO lte's . I heard it could be towers or the software on the phone . I think its the pho e because I've heard the s3 dosnt have these issues .

Im in naperville and im waiting for lte to be up and running before I buy the Evo lte...my brother is having the same problems as you...looks like another month before its ready...patiently waiting...hang in there

As of today, dead. Voice is ok. 3G is gone. (Philly)
Im in lexington sc and for about a week now my data (which i had inside my house just fine) has been out almost completely and i have called 3 times and got 3 different reasons on why this is. Now last night they tell me that there is NO eta on when it will return????? WTF! This better be a LTE thing. If not this is getting out of control fast... They said id be credited for the outage, well data is 50% of what we pay for. This is unacceptable sprint...
Say if it is a software issue shouldn't most people have this issue ?

probably, depending on which software/firmware version you're running. I think it's more specifically related to the radio version/fw vs the towers causing it. it seems more and more like i get varied results depending on where i'm at. always the same end result, just the behavior in how long 3g stays connected varies.
I have been dealling with the same issues. I was driving and my data went out. Can't get data only if I connect to a WiFi, I tried everything. I am on the latest firmware, prl, ect. I got it back yesterday about 5 hours later but as soon as I go to an area with no service it will not come back. (Voice and text work fine) I am still without data since Noon today. I know I have 3G because my old Epic 4G is working fine. I even flashed the radio again and flashed the whole firmware again. Still doesn't work. I am about to take it back and get the Samsung....
