I just purchased a new 16gb SD card and have been using an old 8gb that I had from a previous phone since my original 16gb broke in half. At the time of it breaking I was on cm7 7/13 build and otb .13 kernal for cm7. I copied all the files that I had backed up from the old SD and pasted them onto the new 8gb while adding the latest cm7 build and glitch kernals. I just booted into recovery to try and flash these items and it is telling me that there is an error mounting the SD card and under mounts it will not work when I try to mount either. I don't know why this is because all the files on the card are viewable from the regular phone interface and it says that the card is mounted. I just can't enter the "choose zip from SD card" menu in cwm. any idea as to why this is or how I can remedy it?
thanks in advance.

same problem with "cannot mound SD card" in CWM, though I used this same SD card to update to the CM7 7/13 release, but now cannot update to the newest one.. please help!
NEVER worked with COMROM before....HOWEVER
Just like a computer (in a way) your phone saves certain things like how to operate or run on this phone.
Here's my suggestion
Put your mem card in (make sure everything is backed up still) and start the phone NORMAL not in CWM, as you said it reads it just fine so go into:
Settings> Storage
Here hit "Erase SD Card" if it's unavailable just unmount, then proceed
Once you have completed this, put ONLY the .zip files you need back onto the card, via computer...or high speed usb cable, whatever you want but just add the files you absolutly want to do.
Go into CWM and try again....
If it works then go back and only bring onto your card files/pics/vids you ABSOLUTLY want and leave the extra stuff off (meaning maybe one single file on the card is giving the phone a bad taste so the phone is rejecting it.)
Let me know how it goes!
Best of Luck!
Used SD Formatter on my PC, put back the files I backed up onto the SD card, and was able to flash newest CM7! Thanks!
thanks for the info... but sadly my dinc. 2 is set to be delivered tomorrow as I am having the missed call issue quite frequently. I am really going to miss the great dev team and support group that has grown for the fascinate, but it's a shame that this issue is forcing many to jump ship from an otherwise excellent device. thanks again.

I am rooting my daughters Droid Eris. I used the app from the market and flashed Cyanogen 7. Everything went well until I tried to start restoring her apps and found that the phone is saying there is no sd card. When I go into setting to mount it it is greyed out and wont do anything. the gallery and rom manager also say there is no sd card. the card I am using is not partitioned. I tried taking a partitioned sd out of my old Cliq and putting it in and then it says it has a unsupported system or something like that but I did notice that the mount sd in settings was no longer greyed out. If I reboot into recovery it will recognize the card because it lists what is on it. I have searched everything I can find and cant find any answers. Oh, also, when I plug in the usb to the computer it does nothing then either. Any Ideas??
Go into recovery since her phone can read the card from there and reformat the card. You may also want to wipe data and dalvik and reflash the rom to be on the safe side.
Make sure that you backup anything currently on the SD card before formatting it, which you can do from the usb-ms toggle option in recovery. You will need to copy the rom file back to the phone after formatting the card which can be done from this option as well.
There should be an android.secured folder on the SD card. Delete that. You don't want it on there so make sure you don't copy it back to the card (it will come back after the first boot and it can then be left alone, I like to delete mine before each flash though to avoid possible problems.)
EDIT - DONT FORGET TO FLASH GAPPS RIGHT AFTER FLASH THE ROM! ALL CM7 ROMS REQUIRE THIS!
Let me know if you have any problems

Totally of the topic BUT I'm Selling a fully rooted Droid Eris running CM7 port ROM for $90...interested PM me.
i just recently went to the gingerbread leak rom and it was working fine fir the past week. the message said, Damaged sd card, Sd card damaged. you may have to reformat....
and when i try to mount the sd card by connecting the cables, i press connect and nothing happene\s but the circle keeps spinning for like a hour. please help. i have many photos and work schol work stuff on the phone that i need to transfer to the computer.
Hate to tell you, but you're most likely out of luck. The Gingerbread leak is known to cause problems with SD cards, thats why many recommend using a spare SD card.
I've seen utilities that search corrupted SD cards for files, you might try some sort of tool for that and see if you can get anything off of it.
After this if you want to run Gingerbread, I'd recommned you switch to Cyanogenmod 7, MIUI (what I'm running currently, love the miui launcher), or OMFGB.
I'm not sure if this is related but I will say it anyway. On my Droid X I flashed GB and a week later my phone did the exact same as yours. Error on the phone stating the card was damaged and it needed to be reformatted. I tried to reformat and it would not work on the phone. I tried on my computer and it would not even see the card. I searched for hours and hours and it seems like other's had the same issue. The only way I was able to reformat was to stick the card in my Blackberry and reformat. For some odd reason it picked it up. I did buy a new card just in case and will keep this one for a backup. Always back up your card on your computer on a weekly basis if you can. I lost years of photos.
Anyways I know it's a totally different phone but how weird is it that we both and others had the same issue when flashing to GB. Try to reformat on your computer or even try a different phone if you can. Sorry if this does not help you.

I second that this should've gone in Q&A... However, on your pc google 'piriform recuva' and download as this is a recovery utility that should be able to get back some of your data. You could also try formatting/mounting your card in CWR, I believe nitsuj had some luck restoring a fried card this way
tapatalked from my GingerBanged VZ Fascinate
Actually, the SD CARD DAMAGED message always does not mean the sd card is damaged, it only mean the system can not access it.
Try to use a sd card reader on the PC.
Also, there is a huge, gigantic 1559247pt font warning written in red right at the top of the thread that warns you about the rom possibly frying your sd card....
Edit: my bad, I was thinking of the comm rom thread, but there is a warning at the top of the leak thread also.... I don't mean to sound like an ass, but it really helps to read the OP thoroughly before flashing anything

I cannot do anything to get my phone out of this bootloop that it is in. I am running senseless rom from scottsrom. I did a fix permissions in rom manager and now i cannot get it out of this loop. I pulled everything out and restarted it, no sd card, no sim card, back is off. Its still bootlooping. pleaseeee help.. any suggestions?
with the sd card out i can get past the bootloader screen and into amon ra recovery, but no sd card means its pointless. Still bootloops though. If i have it in its asking me to update, but i dont remember leaving anything on the root of the sd card. I dont know whats going on here.
If the only thing you need to do is remove a file from the SD card, then you can use an adapter and delete it using your computer, or just borrow a buddy's phone and insert the card and delete it there. Worst case, you buy yourself a new blank SD card and copy the folder (with full path) for your nandroid backups over to the new card and try restoring a backup.
If those recommendations at not helpful, you can do a lot from ADB. I recommend following some of the available processes in the development section to reinstall the appropriate kernel (boot.img).

aye, thanks man. atm im at work and dont have access to another sd card or anyones phone that can get to the root of the sd card.
So I'll be getting the fire for my wife and probably not rooting that right off the bat but I'll be getting the nook tab16g and was curious as to the safest/less hassle way to get cm7/root on it BEFORE b&n locks it down with either 1.4.2 or what have u. Dont let it connect to my wifi and make a root sd card in advance? Right after getting it out of the box put the root sd card in and then with another sd card have the cm7 rom to load once cwm is loaded? What caches (dalvik, etc) if Any need to be wiped? And lastly how to unlock/unrestrict the internal memory so I can use more than 1 gig. Thank you in advance...from what I've seen the rooting process is very similar to how I rooted my droid Eris back I'm the day

Just received my nook tablet yesterday and here was what I followed
Before receiving NT I got my sd card ready days before using these directions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22029125&postcount=131
Opened nook took it out of box, created account blah blah got to home screen just to make sure everything was ok with it (screen, etc).
Then I continued following the directions booted to cwm and flashed the update.zip from the post above. After that I booted up NT and updated the nt hidden settings app in the market (after flashing update.zip you get adw launcher, market, etc)
Made sure in nt hidden settings block ota updates as well as allow side installing was enabled.
Then installed CWM to the device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458630
Took my sd card OUT of the tablet and formatted from my COMPUTER (had to be re-partitioned using easeus partition magic, then formatted fat32)
Then from there you can either insert sd card and use tablet or install cm7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481826
Preparing the sd card before receiving tablet (takes a while to write image to it) this entire process from unboxing to booting cm7 took 15-20 minutes and was extremely easy
You said you formatted your COMPUTER? I have to format my computer in order to root? Or do I just need a computer that is using fat32? Or did u mean sOmething else entirely?
Edit: never mind....6am reading mode fail....you formatted your sd card with your computer. Thankfully I have 2 sd cards so should be easier
Edit2: you did indeed initially register and create an account with b&n...is it safe to do that? Doesn't the newer 1.4.2 update block rooting?
he said "formatted FROM my computer" - ie. do the format in your computer using card reader
Awesome newb video by the way! Made me laugh...
Just rooted and I like it, I don't wanna go back, but I can't get the microsd to pick up...I'll give all the info I can--def newb to root/droid but my background is IT, so hopefully we can figure out how to fix it so I can keep the root and not go back to stock(if that would even repair the problem)
Got a pny 32G microSD, droid incredible 4g lte(Verizon) that I rooted using the unlock script and fakeCID and then loaded Vipers Venom LTE custom rom...somewhere in this process-I think right after unlocking-it quit accessing the sd card...I've looked around and read some things about this 'USB brick' thing, but I don't know if it's applicable to me...here's what it does now:
SD card is in phone, but under 'Storage' Total Space and Available show unavailable, and everything else is greyed. If I try and pull the card the phone gives me the 'sd card unexpectedly removed' error.
Windows XP has no issue reading/writing to this card with a card reader. I've formatted a few times fat32 with xp(which i hate doing)and put it back in the phone, with the phone off, booted, and nothing happens. Oddly, when it first happened, after installing the custom ROM, when I'd do this procedure the phone would see the card on boot, but stay forever on 'preparing sd card/checking for errors' and never complete.
Back on the phone side of things, booting into the 'recovery mode', where you flash and whatever, it can see the card, see it's contents, and I wrote some sort of log to the card(option in the menu), so it can access it...oddly, I could not load my Viper rom from the microsd card, it failed on the file, but put it under some folder on the phone and that's how i ended up flashing the ROM, which I was nervous about doing as everything I saw said put the rom on the external sd card...
If I plug the phone into the XP pc via usb cable, choose use as disk drive, no problem accessing phone data, but 'please insert disk' on the card. Cannot push data when in usb debug mode via adb commands either. Oddly, dunno if this is related, it gives me 2 drives and also a CD ROM drive--tried dialing that##7 number for the option to disable cd rom, but it was already disabled. Dunno if this is related, but throwing it in there.
Tried chkdsk on the sd card with Xp, no errors, no problems. Hell, the card's not two weeks old and I've only had the phone a little over a month. I've done a bit of research the past couple of days and the only thing I haven't tried is the very confusing procedure i've seen for some of these 'usb brick' problems, but is that my problem. I'm hoping if all else fails i can go back to stock, just downloaded the stock rom, but will that even fix it? Gots to have my trailer park boys on my sd card to watch! Thanks for the help guys and gals! Sorry for the long post, but I like to give info--if kernel version or any other data like that is required, I can post it.

i tried to slim down your quote, but from my experience i'd still say the sd-card is somehow busted! i had a similar prob with the SD card in my Dinc4G two weeks ago. i _was_ r/w quite fine even from custom rom and at one point, the card just quit. removing and reinserting just ended in "preparing sd-card" and directly after that "safe for removal" ... wasn't able to access it any more within Viper, recovery (TWRP for me) was still seeing the card fine just like on your end.
putting the SD-card into a Win-laptop it _appeared_ fine and came error-free with scandisk etc ... BUT when i tried to backup all data from it before formatting (had like 10G on my 16G card) there were a couple of files that failed to read and i could NOT recover at all anymore. I formatted the SD-card again after that (full format, not fast/quick!) ... and put most of the files back. it is working again now in my Dinc4G but the card sure has some defect sectors (and usually _tends to die soon_ after such errors appear first!
i'd heavily recommend that you try to source some other micro-sd card first and try if you custom rom can read from it again. if that works fine and you see your SD-card from within the settings menu in the rom. you can be pretty sure that it's really the card.
PS: even brand new mem cards tend to fail at times :cyclops: ... just try to erase all private data on it (means: _fully overwrite_ with other stuff until the card is completelly filled) ... and then try to get a replacement from where you got your (fairly new) SD card from.
hope that helps a bit
i agree with the above post... try a different card. if formatting it doesn't fix it, it's time to try a new card.

Thank you for the help, I resolved this issue, as it is the card, but now I have a different issue, unfortunately...
