Hi everyone. It's been two days since the process com.google.process.gapps has started crashing, "stopping unexpectedly" whenever i use the browser on my tab.
Reading the error report, it seems (not 100% sure about that) this is somehow related to the bookmarks sync with Chrome, but i can't find a way to disable this.
Has anyone exprerienced the same issue? Any known solution? Thanks
Go to settings > accounts and sync, click on your account then uncheck everything, then manually sync everything one by one to see what is causing the error.
Then go to manage apps and clear the cache of all the problem apps and re-sync them once you're done. It might take a few tries but it should take care of that error.
I'll try that as soon as possible, thanks!
browser sync was causing this for me
I believe that bookmarks sync no long works with galaxy tab. Google changed something on their end that should have worked fine(it still works on the xoom, transformer, etc.) but since samsung changed a bunch of stuff for no apparent reason, it is now broken. samsung is so stupid sometimes..
So you're basically suggesting that bookmarks sync should stay off to avoid problems like that?
well I don't really know. I never used bookmark sync in the first place. I'm just going by what is said in this article.
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/br...gle-or-the-oems/17840?tag=mantle_skin;content
It turns out that at some point Google started making some changes to the backend systems that handle Google’s user account data. There’s nothing wrong with them doing this; it happens all the time. In fact, no other Android 3.1 tablets had any issues at all with the changes, and their bookmark sync continued to work without a blip on the radar.
Not Samsung, however... I did some digging around the internet, and it’s become somewhat well-known amongst Android developers that Samsung actually modifies core source code in the Android operating system that handles communicating with Google’s backend data services.

Well, that's a pity. I had just started to think it was a useful tool to keep track of unread web pages between work, home and outside...
Let's hope Samsung somehow fixes that.
PS: disabling bookmarks sync actually stops the process from crashing, I think I've solved (if we could really say so...) the issue. Thanks to all!
Thanks, disabling auto sync for browser has stopped the error. Samsung developers need to fix this - I can't auto sync my gmail
What am I missing here?
Ok be prepared, this post may be rather long winded however I will try my best to prevent that. I have a Tmobile G2x I purchased on launch date. Ive not attempted to Root, change roms, or anything of the sort. (as much as I always wanted to, I always felt that my skills were not good enough to attempt these ideas no matter how easy they may seem. I just did not want to be the cause of screwing up my phone that I paid dearly for)
So I have a friend who claims to be the master (of disaster so it turns out) of rooting androids and such. He stops by my house just to hang out and eventualy convinces me to let him root my phone and install CM7. Within a few minutes the phone was rooted (super1click) and was running CM7 release candidate. (I really dont know what all these things truly are but I drilled him for answers once he jacked up my phone and left me with a half-bricked phone) So he installed Rom manager and convinced me to upgrade to the premium version via marketplace so I did. He was then showing me how easy it was to flash new roms at the touch of a few buttons. He put on some other rom which looked like CM7 but claimed to have extra tweaks. It worked fine. A few minutes later he put on some Faux Rom which gave a boot up screen like my old Nexus One did. (Multicolored X) It seemed to work fine as well. Then he said lets check out the nightly CM7 Rom so he put it on. (however I dont think it ever actually put CM7 back on.-still on Faux?) Thats when things got crazy.
Now I get the com.google.process.gapps force close message all the time. He tried to fix it for 4 hours and finally gave up. Here is what I know he/we tried: After searching the internet for hours we tried everyone elses ideas. Clearing calenders cashes, un syncing, etc. We did about 40 factory resets. We have tried to install my backup (which was from BEFORE he even touched my phone) and upon holding both volume rockers and plugging in USB (no battery installed) and it still does nothing. Windows recognizes device but phone screen stays black. Tried Debug mode while doing this as well. If we hold the volume down button and power the little install bar comes on the screen and it does its thing (whatever that is) and goes right back to the way it was. I keep getting the gapps message all the time. After factory reset I cant even type in my gmail address to start the initial setup of the phone. The force close keeps cutting me off. If I type fast, I can sync the account but I cant use market whatsoever. Tried installing Rom manager to re-flash but just sticks at starting download and gapps pops up again.
My son is starting school tomorrow and he has a medical condition. I NEED this phone to communicate with the school nurse via emails and such. As of now I can only text, call, or surf web all while dodging force closes. If ANYONE out there can please help me get my phone back to normal Id greatly appreciate it. Im sure its something easy but as I said before, Im not good at this thing and thats why I never attempted it myself. Your welcome to submit answers here or PM me your phone # if you want to walk me through it on the phone. (I have a landline phone to talk to you on) Thanks in advance for everyones time and Im sorry this ended up being so long.
Hello,
Based on your post, I would suggest that you search your phone's development forum on XDA for a compatable clockwork recovery mod which will install a custom recovery on your phone. The thread will give you instructions on how to do so and how to enter recovery mode.
You can then enter the 'Backup and Restore' part of the recovery and restore your backup manually without using ROM manager. If this doesn't work, I would suggest that you then download the ROM of your choice and install it from the clockwork recovery. Make sure you clear user data and wipe the cache before you install.
Any fix yet? This is really annoying me as I rely on my bookmarks tremendously.
try this:
Open stock browser and under settings choose clear cache and deletehistory

Hi all, hoping you can help with a problem I'm having.
Basically, my Hero was fine, working perfectly, until I cleverly managed to lock myself out of it by getting the security swipe wrong too many times.
Long story short, I did a factory reset (had only got the phone that day so didn't seem like a big deal to lose anything).
I rebooted it, contacts came back down through google, everything fine. Then I started getting this message when connecting contacts to facebook or viewing the 'my contact card'.
android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly problem, force close
If I log out of facebook then I don't get the problem, but I'd like the facebook functionality. When I'm logged into facebook some contacts display facebook info, some don't.
My first thought was a dodgy contact, but all the contacts are the same as the first time I sync'd with google, so nothing should be wrong there I hope.
Anyway, any ideas?
Same problem
Hello,
I am having the same problem. I also posted a question regarding this problem yesterday in the forum but up until now I have received any answers. I also send an email to HTC support but haven't heard from them yet. I suggest you do the same, this way they can't say that this is a one time problem ;-)
I was about to do a factory reset, but now I am afraid that this isn't going to solve my problem. My phone has been working without any problems for 2 weeks with a lot of facebook people synchronised to my contacts. I think that 1of the facebook contacts has some illegal character is its name or description and thus giving this error.
Spoke to soon. This is the reply from HTC. But it isn't that helpfull I am afraid ;-(
Dear HTC customer,
Thank you for contacting our Customer Support Center. We are dedicated to providing you with the best quality service and answering all of your questions and concerns.
Thank you for your feedback, please try to do a hard reset of your phone to see if that solves the problem. You can do this by:
1. With the phone turned off, press and hold the HOME and BACK buttons, and then briefly press the END CALL/POWER button. The reset process will start after a few seconds.
2. Wait for the phone to finish the reset process and then press MENU.
If this does not solve the problem there should be a ROM update for the Hero coming out soon which could contain a fix for the problem. Try the hard reset if it doesn’t work keep an eye on htc.com for the ROM upgrade for the Hero.
If the above steps do not resolve your issue, we invite you to visit the support area on our Web site. Please go to: http://www.htc.com/www/support.aspx
Or you can go to: http://www.htc.com/select_country.htm, select your country and then click on the Support tab.

How bizarre!
Tried it now and no problem, fantastic!
From one of those links....
"Lots of people getting it - seems like it could be a Facebook api change if you look at that thread."
I guess with the hero being SO connected with the web, a lot more than just the phone can break things. Ah well.
Thanks deeren.

i am having the same problem with android.process.acore and i have try everything in the phone and nothing seems to work. please if anyone knows how to fix write back. thanks.
Had this start happening to me today, immediately after I installed three updates from the market, Pure Messenger Widget, Titanium Backup and Fat Secrets. I don't think it was the latter two, I think it was Pure Messenger Widget. It was difficult to get that one to install, it took ages, and then it interferred with the download of the other two. Once I was through with the market the force closes started. Managed to shut the phone down but they came back, until I uninstalled Pure Messenger Widget. A few more reboots and it seems to be back to normal. I realize this is anecdotal, and I have no development experience so I have no logic to draw on here other than my own experience.

Suddenly today my phone will not boot up, giving me the "the process android.acore has stopped ..." message. There are lots of forum threads suggesting possible causes and how to fix them, but none address the issue of when you can't switch on the device at all. I'm in an endless cycle of "force quit" and "the process android.acore has stopped". I'm at the point of having to factory reset, unless anyone can suggest anything please ...?

Unfortunately I think a factory reset is your only option at this point. That's what I had to do when my phone was doing the same thing. Hopefully you have a recent backup to fall back on, however, be careful - do not restore any system data, that's where the problem lies.
Many thanks. I've performed a factory reset and successfully restored a Sprite backup made five days ago. But to my great disappointment I find that none of my programs have been included. Is this normal? All other data, settings, etc have restored fine, just no programs. I can of course reinstall them one by one since my market data is saved in the cloud, but is that normal with a Streak backup, that programs are not included?
Have no idea why your programs weren't backed up, sorry. I use Titanium Backup Pro, so my backups are complete.

Make sure you've backed up everything you want backed up and do a factory reset - it seems to be the only way to fix this. If that doesn't fix it, then try flashing a custom ROM, I know that will work - that's how I ended up delving into the custom ROM world
I have had the same problem today and just finished doing a HARD factory reset with samsung...DOESN'T work...still get the error message and will not operate. Finally called AT&T warranty department and they are sending out yet ANOTHER phone..this will be our 3rd refurbished phone.
If anyone comes up with a solution please let me know. I am going to play around for the next couple of days and see what I can come up with....
Thanks

Like I said, they'd no solution other than flashing a new rom, be it stock or custom. I choose custom and learned I'd never depend on AT&T or Samsung again.

Thanks, I used odin2oneclick and it put android 2.1 update 1 on the phone. Then I didn't have a clue how to get android 2.2 on the phone so I called samsung and they walked me through using kies mini. Now working and have it rooted once again.

Hi guys
Little help needed.. I've had the phone since Aug 09. Had loads of problems with it, but have now decided after nearly a year to update phone as I've lost all notification lights, the charging light, etc. etc. It's not a great phone at the moment!
Donwloaded latest ROM from the HTC site, plugged in phone, and it wouldn't work. Something about the abl, or acb? Wouldn't connect properly when searching etc.
Anyway round it, Tried disconnecting from net, but figure it needs the connection. But didn't work either way.
Is the latest Orange update the one to go for? Does it help the lousy signal, the frozen text messages?
When it says you lose all data, can someone clarify that for me please? Numbers, Sim card info, Phone numbers info, Pics, Music, Email set ups? etc. etc.?
Thanks
Which ROM have you tried?
If you haven't tried it yet, try the VillainROM 12 I think its pretty stable.
Hi, its the latest one for Orange on the HTC forum, but that's not the problem.
It's the fact I can't get the programme to take. It's that ab thing that keeps stopping me and the ROM just exits..
If your ROM is rooted then you shouldn't install the HTC official updates, instead look at the developers forum here and try ROMs from there. For example VillainROM 12 and many others are based on the latest official HTC update.
If your ROM is not rooted, I am not sure what the problem is. Assuming you don't want to root it, maybe you can get support either from HTC or from the shop you bought it at.
Have you got the latest HTC Sync installed?
Hi
Thanks for your replies.
No, not rooted, not anything, since I got it 12 months ago. Other than plugging into pc to transfer pics which always worked. HTC sync? Not aware of?
Never updated Rom ever, but its given me so much grief over the last year, I get maybe 2 web pages and then it freezes for ages and the green line sits for 10 mins before another page. Is that the nature of this phone? Would an update make a difference to that problem?
I downloaded few apps the other night and removed them and now all lights notifications and charging lights don't work. Typing is so laggy and painful to do. Texts won't scroll for minutes...
I just can't understand how everyone says this phone is so great?
I know its a year old now but its always been like this.
Any help much appreciated.
Install HTC Sync and you're problems should go away, though you may need to boot into fastboot and install the driver for that too for the update to work. I can describe that if necessary.
Thanks again ...
Fastboot? Lost me on that one
What does the Rom update erase?
Will try this tomorrow and see if I can get sync on there
You lose everything, but considering the problems you're having this may not be a bad thing. You can backup certain data without root access (such as texts i believe) but that is about it. Check out SMS Backup & Recovery for that. HTC Sync will do contacts (though you should really be using Google contacts by now rather than phone or sim).
Having said that you should lose nothing on your SD card, but I would format that after putting the new system on just in case (so backup to computer etc).
I'll explain fastboot if it's needed. Post back detailed error messages if you get any after installing HTC Sync.
Thank you for your help. I will attempt that when I'm at home, can't do at work.
Forgot to ask, have many others had the phone switching itself off problem? It still does this, and only when you remove battery will it switch on again. No idea why, but you can press every button and nothing doing till battery is removed. Love to know what causes that...
I'm a great ad for this phone huh.
I just recently got the vibrant and got the OTA the same day, the gallery freezes about half the time, and about half of the time that it freezes i have to pull the battery, i cant get to task manager or put the phone to sleep and wake it up.
I searched google and there are alot of links regarding it but i didnt find any that gave any ideas to fix it.
I searched this forum and nothing came up. Anyway, I have a class 6 card, the gallery on my nexus is very quick and has never frozen, so it is definitely the phone.
In my experience with the g1, MT3g, N1 and now this vibrant, any time ive received an OTA it has come with costs, it always brings fixes and features but also causes new problems, large and small. So I dont doubt what I found while searching, that the gallery issue is a result of the recent OTA for the GPS fix. Anyway, its kind of silly that this awesome, technologically advanced device freezes when you open up one of the native apps. But can we do anything about it? And if not, is it likely that Samsung will address it in another OTA? thanks
edit: ive also just recently had my phone just turn off every day or so, and it wont power back on until i pull the battery. Maybe these 2 issues mean i have a defective device? Or is this par for the course with the tmobile galaxy s?
Overclock your phone to only run at 800-1000MHz. It completely solved this for me, 400-1000MHz still hiccups.
thank you, yet another reason to root i suppose...
So no way to fix that with stock phone? =(

That is odd, I've never had my gallery freeze or my phone reboot... Are you sure you don't have some rogue app? Perhaps you should factory reset and start fresh? Do you have any "junk" apps on your phone (stupid apps)?
I had a freeze on opening gallery right after the JI6 was released. I think it was trying to recreate the thumbnails from scratch and download pics from my Picasa acct.
Happened one time only and I actually had to pull the battery since it went unresponsive. Never had a problem after that.
~SB
perhaps unmount and remount the INTERNAL memory card. I've done this before just because I saw it as a suggestion and it recreated my gallery.
I having the same issue. I am ready to delete it and use a different app. Is that possible?

If you're rooted you can probably remove it.
I have tried factory reset so I don't think its a rogue app. I got the ota the day I got the phone so I can't compare before and after. If some people aren't having the issue period maybe a warranty replacement would resolve it. Of course, if we do end up getting froyo maybe that's something that will improve. Love the phone either way, I just get fed up with stuff like gallery freeze, random reboot, GPS issues, etc... stuff that i would think shouldn't get past product testing.
OP, this is discussed at the thread below. (use the search next time)
You are not the only one having this issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=805784
Quick Summary:
- Even with the removable card blank, the Gallery still have the same issues.
- I did a complete wipe and still have the same issues.
- I cleared data through System Settings which recreated thumbnails and other data, still have the same issues.

Wow i am so sick of reading some loser tell somebody to "search next time". You'll be so very relieved to know that I actually did search, and all i found out is that you dont have any friends. But honestly I did find your thread, however it didnt seem to me to be on point with what i wanted to ask specifically. Your post says that "watchdog" told you your gallery is a "resource hog" and that you have to kill it. I dont know what watchdog is, nothing told me anything i just cant get into my gallery app very often, so that didnt seem applicable. Also, i got ji6 the day i got my phone so putting the gallery issue in the context you did ("since ji6 update") didnt mean anything to me, i dont anything about this phone pre-ji6 update. All I know is that my gallery app sucks, your thread was a bit technical for me to be able to apply to my particular issue
Anyway, now my gallery freezes every single time i initially try to open it, i have had to pull the battery 6 times in a row, it works after the pull. This has been my favorite android phone (of 4) but now i just want to set it on fire and run over it with my car. I guess Samsung and Android arent interested in making their $600 products work, does anybody know how i can fix my phone so that it does what it is supposed to? Also im not rooted which i assume probably makes it impossible for me to fix? thanks for any help.

i have been really really happy with this phone ... until recently. stock ROM. not rooted. over the past couple weeks i've been having problems where the phone dialer doesn't find a name i type in. says "unknown recipient". then i have to click the people icon and manually find the person ... the contact list take FOREVER to launch. once i do this, it works from then on for some period of time. also when i go to read a text it says loading for a LONG time. seems like the android native apps (contacts, messaging, etc ...) is having some problems. not sure, but all this seems to be happening since installing the last OTA update.
A restart of the phone fixes the problem but only for a short period of time. any help would be appreciated.

The phones performance between stock and rooted MeanRom 4.4 is like night and day. HTC should be embarrassed for the way the phone runs in stock condition, it really boggles the mind given its hardware.

Its really not too long of a process with the right tools. Backup apps like Titanium Backup, My Root Backup or this newer one im been using, App2zip. I use to be like you. Spent why too long setting things back up. Now i use App2zip for my user apps and flash right after i flash a new rom. Upon bootup, all my apps are there. Not recommend to do with System apps..hint hint.
I bought the Galaxy S3 two months after the EVO. EVO was driving me nuts. I kept the EVO anyway. Can never have too many devices, right?
Running Mean 4.4 rom now and its like night and day from the first two months with the EVO. New advancements from Zep with multitasking and all the incredible work from all the devs in the community, im enjoying the EVO now.
S3 for sale... Just kidding.
This latest update fixed google wallet but looks to have made all of the google apps buggy in the process. Hopefully they'll push an update to fix it soon, but in the meantime rebooting the phone when it acts up will help temporarily.

Yet another reason to leave well enough alone lol
+1 for mean rom, I don't think I could go back. Part of the reason I like it besides the obvious fact that the phone runs way better the ota updater is fantastic this is the first rom I have used that has had it and probably won't go back to a rom without it. I actually have an update downloading in the background now. You deffinty should hard reset and since you have to do that anyway might as well root.

I have had the same issue since the last OTA update, and have tried a few things with limited success. I've tried removing all contacts, and resynching, backing up and clearing the data from the messaging app, soft and hard resets.
Of everything, the soft reset seems to have cut down how often I get this bug. Interestingly, my brothers phone has about the same frequency of the issue, but neither of my parents phones have the problem.
So HTC responded and said to try rebooting into "Safe Mode" and if that doesn't work to perform a factory reset. Here's the email:
If you have backed up your information and cleared the data from Phone, Messages, Contact Storage, and Dialer Storage, but you still have this issue, I would then recommend that you test your Evo 4G LTE in safe mode. This will disable third party apps and processes from launching when the phone is powered on. You will still be able to make and receive calls, text messages, email, and use the internet.
To put your Evo 4G LTE into Safe Mode, use the following steps. Be patient with these steps, you may not get it into Safe Mode on the first attempt.
Go into settings>power and uncheck Fastboot, then power off your phone.
With the phone powered off, press the Power key on your device.
When you see the first load screen, press & hold Volume Down key until OS loads.
"Safe Mode" text will appear on the lower left of screen to advise that you are in safe mode,to get out of safe mode just restart the phone.
If you can access these apps fine in safe mode, this would indicate some kind of conflict or interference from a third party application. You would need to rule them out by uninstalling the apps until you find that the phone is working normally again.
If the issue persists in safe mode, I would then recommend that you back up your data and perform a factory reset. If you would like assistance with backing up your data, please let me know and I will walk you through this process. The reset will restore the phone to a "like new" state. All personal data such as emails, text messages, internet bookmarks, photos, videos, music, documents, settings, call history, market apps, and any contacts and calendar entries that have not been backed up to a PC or server will be erased. Data on the SD card is not affected by the reset.
To reset your Evo 4G LTE, use the following method :
***If you use Google Wallet, please perform these steps before you perform the reset***
-Open Google Wallet application
-Tap on Menu
-Tap on Settings
-Tap on Reset Google Wallet
1. With the device turned off, press and hold the Volume Down button. While continuing to hold this, press and release the Power Button.
2. When the factory reset menu appears, then release the Volume Down button.
3. Use the Volume Down button again to highlight FACTORY RESET, and then press the Power Button to select it.
I hope that these steps help you to gain access to these apps properly again, Stephen, and I hope you have a great day!

Im going to have to disagree with people and say, being stock along with all the updates have really improved my experience with sense 4. I've owned this phone since launch and really hated its performance. I eventually sold it and got a GS3 for 2 months and now I eventually want Galaxy Note 2. Anyways I sold the GS3 in a attempt to raise money for the note 2 but came across a great deal on a stock white Evo, which i now own. Let me tell you. This baby is silky smooth in stock form, much better than anything I've been flashing.

It's definitely no fun when your phone stops working as expected, and I'll be glad to help you get your phone back in working order! To best assist you I'll need to know what phone you have, but from your description it appears you have an Android powered phone. With this is mind I believe that we should try wiping the phone's cache partition. For your convenience I've attached a document that details how to perform the wipe. This does not delete any critical data from your phone like contacts, so you don't have to worry about losing any data. If this does not correct the concern please let me know, and also include the serial number for your phone so we can research the situation more deeply. Thank you for being a member of the HTC community, and I hope you have a wonderful afternoon!

It appears that clearing caches/app data doesn't help with the problem, but rebooting into safe mode (press and hold vol down during the splash screen) does fix it. I believe this means that there is a 3rd party app causing the problem. Now to start uninstalling apps till the problem fixes itself. Ugh. Considering the problem doesn't occur half the time this will be a difficult process... Anybody have any suggestions on how to quickly figure out which app is causing this aside from uninstalling them one by one?
Check for cpu hogs
It sounds like u may have a cpu hog or a poorly written app. U might be able to tell what it is by checking your battery usage. Setting ngs/battery/battery usage
Biggest usage should be screen and android system ect.
If not, there may be a some apps to check that for u.
but if it comes to it, after the factory reset, start with the necessary apps, stock plus Google apps. After that do ur widgets, wait a few hours, add a few more, and wait.
This way u can limit new processes and boil it down to a few.
Good luck
Interested to see what app you are using that's causing issues. Good luck as well.
My wife's Rezound has gotten really flaky the last couple of weeks. People will call and the phone won't ring. Some apps will work only on occasion. The system date/time will go haywire (yesterday it was reporting a year of 1992). The camera stopped saving pictures two days ago. Today, the camera app will start, with a black screen, then immediately shut down.
Phone is bone stock. Has never been rooted. What looks really odd is that every app that I looked at this morning shows zero cache. Can't see anything untoward in the list of running apps.
And something on it is eating the battery like nobody's business. She put a hi-capacity battery in it a couple of months ago and things were happy until this flakiness started. Now she has to put it on the charger a couple of times a day.
Anyone have any ideas why the phone would start acting this way?

Did you use an HTC branded battery and back cover? There are lots of reported issues with non-HTC batteries, this could be the issues with time (battery cover is the antenna, loss of signal perhaps)
Also, when is the last time you did a factory reset? It might be time...

Yes, HTC-branded battery and cover.
If I could get a "third-party" assurance that a factory reset would not get rid of her data...
(As if...)
She doesn't want to lose anything. Reset blows away apps and settings, so that will likely be a no-go.

Exactly, it will wipe everything... this should be done periodically in smart phones to clear out "junk" that accumulates over time. I wrote a guide a while back on how to do this with the least amount of disruption, I'll see if I can find it again and link it.
On another note, have you tried just booting into stock recovery and clearing cache?

No. Haven't tried that. I'll give it a go before doing the wash & wax.
I have a feeling it has something to do with all the stuff on the phone. She has tons of pics of the grandson (at least two a day) that have been accumulating.
We're going to offload them (ALL?) to an external drive this evening. Maybe that and a clear cache will take care of things.
A link to your guide would be appreciated as well...
Thanks

I can't find the guide... it is buried in my hundreds and thousands of posts across half-dozen forums somewhere.
EDIT: FOUND IT!!! Hear ya go... It's a little outdated but it's close, make sure you have your Google account password
I am going to assume you are NOT rooted...
1. (Optional) Use a utility like MyBackup Pro to backup all data (this is a safeguard, do NOT restore from this unless absolutely necessary)
2. Go into Message app and press MENU and select Back up SMS, then save all messages to a file (note the filename)
3. Plug the USB into a PC, go into Storage mode, and copy everything from both drives that appear in Windows to a spare directory.
4. Backup contacts, if you are using any "Phone" contacts, use VZW Backup, if they are all Goggle contacts you can skip this step. (Facebook and Exchange contacts are held on the server, no need to backup)
-- Note in newer Rezound ICS firmwares, the People app has the ability to Move contacts, you can Move all Phone contacts to Google, this is preferred if your software supports it
5. Take screen shots of all home screens, and the application launcher screens
6. Make sure you have all usernames, password, WiFi codes, etc., for all accounts and WiFi networks you have in the device
7. Go into Settings-Apps-All and note which apps you have disabled
Once you have everything you think you need, do a Factory Reset via the menus, then once it completes and you are back at the setup screen, power off, remove and reinstall the battery, and power up holding VOL DOWN+POWER to go into HBOOT, then perform the Factory Reset from there as well. The phone will reboot to the setup screen, go through that.
Google contacts should restore automatically, or use VZW Backup to restore contacts, then once all contacts are back you can restore the Message backup (might have to copy the backup file back to it's original location). If you want to disable apps, best to do them at this step. Setup you local WiFi and any additional accounts if you need to. Then start Play Store twice, pausing about a minute or two between, on the second start load all updates. Now go to Google and the Play Store your computer and select "My Android Apps", and click on the "Verizon HTC ADR6425LVW" icon, from that point you can see the apps you have for that device and other apps in your library, select Install for the ones you want and they will be pushed out to the phone and install. Once that is all done run each app at least once to finish it's setup (this is important, some apps will hold the WakeLock until their setup is complete, draining the battery quickly if you don't finish the setup). Now just change home screens and such as needed and tweak.
With a little practice, this entire procedure can be done in under 30 minutes, depending on your connection speed, number of apps to install, and amount of tweaking needed.
If you are doing anything "weird", like POP3 mail accounts, you might have to back those up separately if they are not stored on the server.

Note that if you have backup/restore turned on for settings to Google account, many settings and most apps will automatically restore.
For photos, I'd recommend turning on Google+ photo upload or taking advantage of Dropbox's photo upload feature built into their app. You can toggle it to upload over data/wifi or just wifi, it gives you the peace of mind that your pics are backed up in the event something happens to your phone.
