[Q] bluetooth keyboard support - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a small bluetooth keyboard specifically for use with my ThunderBolt. Using CyanogenMod 7, it will work fine. However, if I use any rom that is based on sense, the bluetooth keyboard will not sync correctly. I've read that sense uses an outdated version of the bluetooth stack. Is there any way to get the bluetooth stack that CyanogenMod uses and put it into a sense based rom?

This is something people have been after for a long time my friend. Complain to htc
On a side note, this really should have been posted in Q&A, or better yet googled.
Edit: just realized I did not technically answer you. If out is possible, no one has done out on any sense rom that I'm aware.

My bad about posting in the wrong place. I have googled it and found nothing that solved the problem. Since there are a lot of smart people here, I thought I would ask it here.

What was the solution?
The title says it all...

I am currently typing this on a bluetooth keyboard. I am running an AOSP based rom now and loving it. Link is in my signature if anyone wants to check it out.

I havent tried it yet, but using my old blackberry keyboard via bluetooth would be kind of cool if I could get it to interface.

i had this: http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=PA-BK03-PB&cat=KYB
it worked on my old Incredible 2 and my gf's iphone.
keyword being 'had'... it started having issues connecting. would have to try 2 - 3 times occassionally before it connected. rather then exchange i just got a refund.

[Q] Motorola Cliq 2 Roms?

Is the a forum for the Motorola Cliq 2? I didn't see the it listed on the phone types area? Is there another name it's known by?

I just got this phone myself, and I'm hoping to see a section for it.
Are you having any issues with wifi calling. For some reason it will not stay connected for me. It will connect for a little bit then just randomly disconnects. My G2's wifi calling works perfectly so I'm wondering if it just doesn't work well on the Cliq 2 or if one of the built in connection manager apps is interfering with it. Anyone who had this issue please post and fixes you found. Thanks
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I haven't used the Wifi calling just yet, but I had a similar problem with Navigator. Was in NYC, and was using it to get me around, and it just stopped working. It was losing the data connection, and it would just stop cold turkey. Sounds similar to your problem with Wifi calling. Probably data connection related.
This MotoBlur is bull****. My sister owns a Motorola Flipside, and the software on that blows. Had to do a number of things to get that phone working right. I'm hoping for some CM7 roms on both of these phones. So far, nobody cooked any yet. Makes me miss using my G1 phone, since it had a pretty nice setup with the abundance of custom roms available. Just a SIM card swap away.
Of course, the first thing needed is a section for the Cliq 2.
The c2 is still a redheaded stepchild at this point. There is some work starting now over at m3 but it would be really nice to see something going over here.
There's already a deblurred rom with some goodies included. Someone is working on porting CM6 and maybe eventually CM7.
That is correct over at m3 there are 2 roms and a custom recovery out at this point. Looks like some good things are starting to happen!

what version of z4root did you use for get rooted you cliq 2?
Just use OneClickRoot to root this phone. The latest version works fine. The Gingerbread release has a custom root that you'll need to apply. It's on ModmyMobile.com .

Possible jb patch in the works

Just returned from taking care of my bill at a corporate sprint store in Detroit Michigan area, and brought up concerns about issues since jb was released. Before I was able to tell my personal issues since the update the couple techs that were at the front door greeting/mingling with customers, told me they have been notified that a patch is being worked on for the Bluetooth, navigation, proximity sensor, wifi and various glitches others have been reporting. This was all said before I even mentioned those issues that myself and others on this forum have brought up. They've even been instructed to stop doing replacement handsets for people with the issues. So to me it sounds like the issues have been noticed/verified finally and HTC/sprint may be releasing something soon. Sounds legit considering the tech's themselves named off the issues and seemed to know a bit about the problems without me saying anything. Figured I'd pass on this tidbit of info and hopefully it becomes a reality.
Update 01/11 called HTC and they have a bulletin that's been sent out that proximity sensor was specifically being worked on (news for stock users at least)..the nav issue the guy said wasn't a for sure thing because it might be a google dropping the ball thing/capatability issue

I have to flash back to an ics rom then back to jelly bean while wiping as little as possible just to get mhl-hdmi adapter to work. And sometimes at that. Most of the time I have to reset the phone 3 times, unplug, plug in cable to phone. It just blows balls! I am about to just go back to ics and stay there. Jelly bean or at least this iteration of it sucks. Not to mention the worse battery life? Why are we excited about jb anyway? It looks good and sounds nice, but it is just like its abbreviation (jb) jailbait!
Does anyone else agree with me or are you all on the google strain of bud? Here's my list of issues over ics: Battery hog! Mhl-hdmi previously mentioned, New usb connection manager screwed my car audio. Have to update busybox everytime I reset just so root explorer displays remaining space in sd card.
I will quit my rant now though I guess. No one at sprint or htc or most the people here even give a rats **** about these issues because i obviously must be a noob who cant wipe and flash a rom properly or my phone has issues so I must be retarded or something. Tired of those attitudes on xda. But thats another topic. Good day to u all!
I updated to JB and I don't have any of the issues you are talking about. After hearing some of your experiences I think I will wait until a patch comes out to update my wife's phone.
I like JB on this phone. Google now is a welcome feature. Initially I experienced shorter battery life, but after adjusting the settings in Google Now I would say my battery life went back to normal or possibly even better than before.
The one thing I don't like about JB is the in scrolling background, but all the pluses more than make up for it.

I turned off any cards that would frequently update.
Ex. Traffic, weather and nearby places
I can't say for sure that these consume extra battery, but ever since adjusting the settings my battery has been performing well.
It's currently at 50% after 12h 36m off the charger with medium use.
I wish they would just fix this dam Proximity Sensor. I hate my calls hanging up when it touches my face and how it wont show the screen when I wish to hang up.
The CM10 proximity fix woked for me.
[MOD] [CM10] Proximity Sensor Fix
I tested using Proximity Sensor Finder before and after. Before nothing happened, after it went from 9 to 0 when covered.
I've seen all those issues the MeanBean Thread.
All 4.1 JB Devices Broke Bluetooth Voice Dial. As far I know only 4.2 fixes it.
I'd be really impressed if Sprint released 4.2 let alone any update.
I posted a [MOD] in the development section to get Cyberon to be the Default when you click the bluetooth button and it works great, better than it ever has and no longer relies on the Network. And I'm nolonger forced to keep my contacts in gmail. I prefer keep them only in my work's ExchangeMail account.
Nav has worked for me so far but I have not used it too heavily.
As far as Bluetooth Reliability during a Call JB is MUCH better. ICS would drop bluetooth headset as I passed WIFI HotSpots.
WIFI has been an issue on this device since day 1. JB release doesn't seem much better or worse, but it does seem different, but usable for me. I've had it get stuck once and would not let go of WIFI as I drove away, which jams the whole phone up until you shut WIFI off.
The Proximity Sensor seems to be a calibration issue. My guess is the OTA update might have accindentally wiped each devices calibration or something. You can recalibrate it. The default cal works for people. I have not had the issue or it's not a big enough issue for me to care.
Well I can verify after getting a couple refurbs because of the jb updates/roms having nav crashes (first refurb to replace my new launch date phone being a launch date activated one with nav crashes and faulty strip in touchscreen), I finally have one that the navigation works flawlessly on so far with several jb Roms I tried....the refurb date on this phone was in December with no usage/data etc....and I was the first to activate the phone (maybe damaged casing on phone etc and never was sold)...so the pattern of newer built elte's seems to be a pattern...at least for me...it was a battle to get a working phone but paid off in the end...

Bluetooth for Sense 4.0 Roms

I have been playing around with a few sense 4 ROMs. And unfortunately polluting some threads with ranting
I'd like to open a discussion with anyone who might have some ideas to try.
Here's what I have so far.
I'm beta testing viper amaze 1.6.3
1. I have Bluetooth communication between a Bluetooth ear piece, a Motorola stereo headset, and my laptop thru a rocket fish BT USB adapter.
2. All BT devices are seen when searching for devices.
3. It will pair the device and get a confirmation of " pairing successful" on all three devices.
A. No device that I have tried to pair will ask for a pin code. It's automatically pairing!
4. My Laptop sent a message to the screen on my phone to confirm that it was the correct device connected.
5. Bluetoothd isn't stopping after it's started. Only dies after a full reboot.
6. After tampering with some files in system/data/data I got the HTC FM app to turn on. It didn't do much. And wouldn't turn off.
7. I have asked faux to add some files to his kernel. I hope this narrows it down!
So it's close. I would say it's 90% working. It just doesn't complete or latch the connection.
One more thought is that the FM radio app uses the BT radio so that's why FM radio doesn't work either. But spirit FM radio does. It will fail if BT is trying to connect. But when the bt radio is idle it will work.
I have the decompiled FM radio app and I'm currently digging thru the files.
Any ideas?

If someone could decompile the stock FM radio app we could see what is trying to do and why it fails. Or figure out how spirit is accessing the BT radio.

Thank you. I'm going to scour through it to see if I can find whats supposed to turn on and off the bt radio.
Can you decompile the FM radio app from a 3.6 rom too??
I'll compare them and see what I can find.
Just a thought...
I'm fairly new to all this so bare with me on this one... Lol I was thinking about past ROMs and how removing certain bloatware could potentially damage the ROM you were on... Is it possible that the commands missing for Bluetooth to work fully are embedded in a bloatware app??? I don't think it would be a far-fetched idea for T-Mobile/HTC to code things in such a way that one of their apps would have to run in the background in order for Bluetooth to function properly. Kind of a fail-safe to ensure that their bloat stays on the phone...
It's not to far fetched in theory. And yes, some of the bloatware broke things when you removed them, like the stock ticker, because it was looking for something that had been removed.
This however goes a little deeper. The software came from a different device. And most all of the bloatware that is HTC stuff is there.
It has a slightly different file structure on sense 4.0 than the 3.6. Some files have been modified or combined. Our kernel is the same from what I can tell so far.
I'm running faux 26. So these new files are probably not in the kernel.
The biggest change is a file called BcrmBluetoothservices.apk where we used to have a file called BluetoothFtps.apk.
I think this is the first hurdle.
And thank you for your input! I think if enough of us can knock our heads together we can figure this out.
Sent from my HTC_Amaze_4G using xda app-developers app
Yea with multiple people brainstorming on the matter... Someone's bound to come up with a solution! Has anyone taken a logcat of a bluetooth running on a Sense 3.6 rom and compared it with the logcat of a Sense 4 rom?
I don't know .but I flashed energy 3.6 and will do a little playing tomorrow..

There's a few stable, at least I consider stable. Just depends on what you can live without.
I'm going to try my hand at porting... I'm shooting for a "Stock" sense 4 rom. no extras. no tweaks. just working and then we can go from there.
Auto pairing
Does anyone know how to stop the phone from automatically enter the pin code for recognized devices.
The devices are trying to pair and its getting an incorrect pin code. I think this might be a step in the right direction....

[Q] I have rooted with three purposes: Wifi tether, LTE signal and bluetooth. Help?

So after many people telling me that the only way to accomplish what I want is to root...I did. For the first time ever, in over 5 years of Android ownership. So will itemize the issues at at hand and ask relevant questions and state what I have done within each one. But first, you should know I rooted using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2026938 and I have SuperSU version 1.25, and still running stock ROM and I am S-On.
Issue 1: Wifi tether.
I have downloaded Wifi Tether version 3.2 Beta 2 and I got it to work. The issue is, is there a better performing app or a way to get this one to perform faster? I get about 2mbps on speedtest.net on my phone while the tethered devices get 0.72mbps..I want to get the same on both. Anybody know how?
Issue 2: LTE connectivity.
Many know the LTE connectivity on LTE Evo sucks the big one. So now that I am rooted, what can I do to improve it? Specific ROM? Specific App? custom radio drivers?
Issue 3: Bluetooth
Within my 3 questions here, I am obviously also asking for ROM recommendations, but I have heard certain ROMs break bluetooth and I wanna avoid that at all costs. But the real issue is not the latter. My concern is AVRCP bluetooth profile. I need it to be version 1.3 or higher in order for my phone to send track/album art info to my car's Display Audio/Navigation screen. This is something I have been trying to figure out for years, I posted many threads on this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728786 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1702047 and also here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1553950
The difference is that back then, I was not willing to root, but now, I'm already rooted.
So shoot me some solutions, and forever change my life! O well respected community of android tinkerers!
Now for issue 3 (bluetooth), if you guys know a way to get this issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1702047 to work, that would also help me. Here is the OP post quoted
darkleafar said:
So I just recently upgraded from an Evo 3D to the Evo 4g LTE, and the phone is gorgeous and all, but I've lost a major feature and it is scaring the hell out of me, I hope you guys can help:
Intro to my problem:
I have a 2012 Prius V, which has built in Bluetooth and an USB port. My Evo 3D lacked the right level of bluetooth AVRCP profile needed in order to display track names, artwork, etc, on my Prius Nav screen through bluetooth. So to work around that, I would plug in my Evo 3D into the Prius's USB port, then I would select "Disk drive/USB mass storage mode" on the phone and voila! My car saw all my music, complete with track names, album artwork, etc.
My main problem:
All of my music is in my 16GB MicroSD card, so I figured just putting it into my new LTE Evo would suffice...but it didnt. When I plug in my LTE Evo, the "Disk drive/USB mass storage mode" NO LONGER triggers my car detecting it. I noticed a new option, called "Media Sync." Selecting that WILL trigger my car dectecting the phone storage, but it ONLY detects the BUILT IN phone storage, not what's on my MicroSD card.
What's even worse...
Also, if you are wondering, the LTE Evo, despite having Bluetooth 4.0, STILL DOES NOT have the right level of AVRCP needed to display album artwork and track names over bluetooth. I was very, extremely disappointed when I realized this. I ve always been a loyal Anti-Apple/Pro-Windows/pro-Android kinda tech guy, but how come Iphones have been able to do this (track names and album artwork over bluetooth) for several years and this new super phone of ours cannot?
Where I need your help:
How can I make it so that my car can recognize my MicroSD card, not just my phone's storage?
I'm not gonna be forced to stick my music into my phone's built in storage instead of my MicroSD card, am I?
Isnt there any software/firmware or mods/rooting stuff I can do to enable tracknames and album artwork over bluetooth on this phone, since it already has bluetooth 4.0 after all?
Well, thank you very much for your time and I hope y'all have some awesome answers, more than greatly appreciated.

Dude I just rooted for the first time ever. I could not begin to tell you who develops kernels to save my life. But I would have to be S-Off for a custom kernel, right? Anybody with Cyanogen Mod wants to chime in on whether AVRCP 1.3 or higher is present?
Holy crap! A google search answered my own question, they claim AVRCP 1.3 was working on Cyanogen Mod 10.0 but that it broke on 10.1. Link here https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/CYAN-20
So, can I just flash 10.0 to my phone? what is the difference between 10.0 and 10.1? are they both jellybean builds?
And another thing, the wife was testing the wifi tether on my phone with her I PAD and connection breaks after about 15 minutes. So it looks like it isnt working after all. I just like turns off by itself. Anybody know why this could be?

There is a setting that can be turning it off in the app by itself or it could be the jellybean task killer what rom is she using? And yea you can flash cm 10.0, is jellybean 4.1; cm 10.1 is jellybean 4.2... If you are s-on just remember to extract the boot.img and flash it on fastboot with this command: fastboot flash boot boot.img.

Wifi Calling with Revolution HD?

Hi guys,
I have a T-Mobile HTC One and last night I unlocked, rooted, and flashed ARHD 30.0. I used to have the capability of Wifi calling, which T-Mobile offers for free. For those of you unfamiliar who may be familiar with a substitute, this feature allows users to call and text over Wifi, which is especially useful when service is unavailable.
Ever since I flashed the ROM, this feature doesn't show up in my settings. Does anyone know of a substitute that has the same or similar features? Also, does anyone know of the newest Revolution ROM that includes this capability? I'd like the newest possible ROM.
Thanks
I believe when T mobile release 4.3 for the One the devs will be able to include wifi calling in their ROMs. I don't know of any alternatives. 4.3 is supposed to go out on Monday so it shouldn't too much longer...
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
OK great. So you think it should be available in the next couple of weeks? Does Mike make these ROMs specifically for different carriers or is it a one ROM fits all kind of thing?
Also, if I flash a newer ROM, do I lose all my data on my phone? And if so, is there a way to backup and restore everything including my apps and settings?
I'm pretty new to this. Thanks for your help.
If you're on 4.1.2 right on you're going to get some annoying problems when first updating.
You'll most likely just want to do a complete wipe of your entire phone. (backup what you need)
There is a adb command you can run, check the trickdroid website there's a tutorial.
If we get an update Monday, Wi-Fi calling should be added relatively quickly to the existing ROMs. Like a day or two.

If you're on 4.1.2 right on you're going to get some annoying problems when first updating.
You'll most likely just want to do a complete wipe of your entire phone. (backup what you need)
There is a adb command you can run, check the trickdroid website there's a tutorial.

Ok great. Will the new Revolution HD ROM have a different version number? I just want to make sure I don't miss it. And when it is released, where will be the first place it will be announced? I'm very anxious to get my W-Fi calling back, since I have poor reception at school and work, but Wi-Fi is more readily available.

FYI, Insertcoin 5.0-5 incorporated the latest T-Mo update, and now has working Wi-fi calling on T-Mobile. ARHD will likely upgrade soon too, but these roms are somewhat similar and Insertcoin runs great. Here's a link:

Hmm. I may have to try InsertCoin if Mike doesn't update his ROM. He just released a new version of ARHD (31.0) and it doesn't say anywhere that he's added WiFi calling. So I'm not sure if he is planning on doing it in the next couple of weeks or if he's just going to forget about it.

I bit the bullet and tried insert coin, not too impressed compared to trickdroid although it's probably just due to my ignorance.
No back4menu baked in
Seems a bit sluggish compared to trickdroid, which was already noticibly slower than when I first flashed it months ago
Didn't remove all the bloat I asked it to
Didn't allow my play store apps to auto d/l (weird one - tried two flashes and no dice, tried a different 4.3 rom and all my apps came right back)
That said, it is 4.3 with wifi calling but I'm still rolling back to 4.1.2 for now and sending trickdroids guy 10$ on paypal with a note about wifi calling

There's a 4.3 Rom by beholdthis, I think, that has Wi-Fi calling and works perfectly well. And it's customizable with add-ons.

Hmmm I came from Trickdroid, then ARHD and have stayed on Insertcoin; zero lag here and no problems auto downloading apps at all. Also Xposed mods work too. But, everyone has their rom preferences, so good luck!
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. behold_this's ROM looks promising, but I messaged mike and he said wifi calling "will come" so I think I'm going to hold off for a few more weeks and hopefully he'll have made the ROM by then.
 Good to know im actually looking for a rom with wifi calling since i dont have great coverage where i live. ill check the mentioned roms out, although was really interested on pacman rom
I will be keeping an eye out for this as well. I sent a PM to the developer for AR HD a day or so ago asking, but no response yet.
I'm no developer, but this seems like it would be pretty simple and quick to implement the WiFi calling feature from the stock T-Mobile ROM which came out almost three weeks ago. I'm really surprised it isn't out yet, especially as he seems to know that people are waiting for it. Then again, most of us aren't paying him for his work. I just don't know how much longer to wait... I seem to have terrible service and WiFi all the time.

It's not as easy as you might think. To implement Wi-Fi calling into a rom the base HAS to be the tmobile base. It's not as easy as ripping an apk out.

Um, is that exactly what we have now that the 4.3 update has been pushing HTC One Roms?

Just because the 4.3 update has pushed out doesnt mean a dev is using it as the base. Some are, some arent.
