How to know if my rom is branded ? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
a quick question please, how can I tell if the rom that I have on my phone is branded to O2 or not? I'm on KF3 via kies and I just rooted it.
Many thanks

Do you see o2 logo or any other message o2 brand start up or on the software part of the phone?
If not have you tried another network sim? Does another network sim work on your phone?

If you are on KF3 via Kies that was the latest O2 upgrade .
O2 branding is O2 splash screen at boot and a few O2 sites in the web browser and O2 Arena wallpaper .
O2 phones are branded do you actually mean is it locked to O2 network ??

Go to Settings -> Info and scroll down until you see your kernel. Now search the forum for the string you see there. The part that answers your question is I9100XWKF3 where XW or whatever you have tells you the region/branding and KF3 tells you the kernel version.

Branded or Not (O2 Germany)

Hello,
last week I bought a GS2 from O2 Germany (O2 myHandy without SIM contract). I am not shure if it ist branded or not. Or if I have to use the O2 Firmware Update.
There is no special software installed, only the SAMSUNG Stuff.
If I root my GS2 is it possible to unroot and to bring it back to original state so that I can sent in for warranty?
O2, Germany
"HIDSWVER" = "I9100XWKE2/I9100OXXKE3/I9100XXKDJ/I9100XWKE2"
"ProductCode" = "GT-I9100LKAVIA"
Thank you for your time... und support...
Sascha
Flash O2 firmware will remove root or any stock firmware .
O2 UK original rom in Dev section dont know about German ..
O2 UK branding was only O2 boot screen and a few bookmarks .

[Q] GT-i9100 Unlocked by o2. expect generic Kies updates or Carrier specific Update?

hi guys, first post so apologies if its been asked before. i have run a search but all the results are regarding factory unlocked phones.
i bought my Galaxy S2 locked to the o2 uk network.
recently had it unlocked by o2 with the keys that they provided me.
with the up coming ICS update, im just curious to know if Kies will update me with a generic Regional release of ICS or will i still need to wait for an o2 branded ICS release because the phone was locked to o2 from new.

I think you can do it either way. More than likely a general ICS release will be seen some time before you get a branded release from o2 so it will pretty much be up to you which one you implement, but I'm sure most will agree that the o2 official will come after the generic ICS

O2 phones are often unlocked and the upgrade path will be dependant upon O2 not Samsung as O2 will brand before release .Your phone is unlocked but still an O2 branded phone .
However Google have asked for a much faster roll out from networks for this update .
I would find your O2 firmware and save it as even if you try stock roms custom roms etc you can always wipe your phone and revert to the O2 firmware for an official upgrade .search CheckFus in that respect .

Thanks for the replies guys.
I thought by having my phone unlocked directly by o2 would make it unbranded, thus being able to update to an unbranded ICS release via Kies instead of waiting for the o2 branded one.
Well i guess I'll have to wait and see what happens. Hopefully I get an update with the unbranded version via Kies!
I'm not familiar with custom roms. I am comfortable with the whole scene, I just havnt tinkered with Android yet.

No just unlocked to the network that does not change product codes etc so its still the same phone as far as Kies can see O2 UK .
You can of course download and install stock ICS once released from XDA etc .

I may end up having to do that if o2 take too long or don't provide an ETA for their branded version of ICS.
I guess I'll need to get reading on where do get stock roms and how to flash them to my phone.
Can you link me in the right direction?

[Q] CSC

The problem is the following the S2 go to assistance again but this time to be exchanged for a new one.
I am with the following problem, the S2 was Vodafone Branded (PORTUGAL) i unlocked and I installed the rom TPH ( portugal carrier free) and the problem is that now install either 2.3.5 or the new ICS vodafone and even doing factory reset he did not let me select the CSC TCL (Original one) says must always be three chars.
If I can help would appreciate, and there is a possibility of making a vodafone Sim Lock again?
Greetings and thanks
I think I can translate what you're asking.
1) did you actually sim unlock? Or just flash non branded firmware?
2) are you actually trying to flash a rom with your csc in? They don't all have every csc.
3) if you have flashed an unbranded rom you won't be able to flash vodafones csc. Just find out what the generic Portugal one is and use that.

1) yes i did sim unlock
2) my phone was branded Vodafone (CSC TCL) and i Flash the TPH (carrier free)
3) I need to put back the original CSC because my s2 go to samsung to be exchange for another one
In that case you need to check out Odia's (I think) thread in development and download your appropriate carrier branded firmware. Then just hope they don't notice your sim is unlocked.

[Q] Questions to Debranding

Hi, I am from Australia with Optus carrier. I don't like the optus start-up logo, it looks bad. I wanna get rid of it and heard that I would need to flash a stock rom from Samsung. The question is: I am from Australia and I haven't seen any Australian Roms for Galaxy S3. I saw that there are like UK ones and Algerian, but I would wish to have the Australian debranded stock rom, if possible. Or if that's not available, the international stock rom, however I haven' found any. Do you know what I should do? Once I have the stock rom, I still can get updates and so on, right?
Also, I was wondering if I hard reset my phone I have atm, which is branded, will it turn to the unbranded? Really doubt it, tho who knows.
Cheers
If your phone is modelled as gt - i9300 its possible to flash any rom for the device for example international stock rom. Look roms from sammobile web sites.

More firmware available as the days pass i would wait .

I actually found the Australian unbranded firmware:
Australia ......... Unbranded ......... »» XSA »» I9300XXALE8/I9300XSAALE6/I9300XXLE8/I9300XXALE8
Using Check Fus downloader 2.1, you can download it and other firmwares. Details can be found here.
The Fus downloader fails to download it tho, it crashes. Is there anyway to download it directly from the server? Or what am I doing wrong?

Do i have a branded phone?

Hi,
i bought my S3 second hand. I thought its a free version.
In the Playstore my phone is called "Vodafone S3". I am with Vodafone. Is that the reason?
I didn´t get the last ota and i can´t download the bbc olympics app. So i started to doubt if i really have a free device.
Is there anyway to find that out?
thx
Got any Vodafone apps. Mine was Vodafone branded and it came with 6 apps. One of which being update

Branding means it is branded by boot screen or some other network personalization .
Network provided means phone branded or not provided by a network and updates tied to that network .
Your individual phone gets updates as and when the provider decides to update .
KIES will tell you the latest firmware for YOUR phone or CHECKFUS the same .
Or join XDA developers forum and flash stock firmware .
A Samsung or your phone providers forum could have more information on updates .
