Hello I have been on CM7 7.1 with DC 8.9.1 since June 27th and today when i rebooted my phone it started to feel very hot so opened set cpu (I don't use it with drownings kernals) to see what the cpu was running at and it was pinned at 806 I know some reported this happening with drownings kernal some times but usually switching between gov.'s or lower and rasing the cpu setting corrects it. Well it didn't this time tried through cm settings also still no luck. I reflashed my rom without using dc kernal and still the same pinned at 806 unless I manually scale back and it will stick at what ever setting i put it at. Anyone have any ideas to correct this. I searched XDA and found no relevent posts about this.
what's your governor?
Sent from my Liberty
Never heard of that one before I remember smartass2 in the DC kernel was giving some problems. Did you try flashing the msm7227 kernel? If that doesn't work, I would try a full wipe/factory reset.
What were any of the changes (system changes, apps installed, etc) that you made to the phone prior to the problems starting?
Try using No Frills cpu
And try using an app called CPU spy.

Thanks for the suggestions going through recently installed apps now and going to uninstall them also going to run a fix permissions. Also going to try PCU Spy.

Okay deleted most recent apps ran fix permissions through rom manager and installed CPU Spy and The phone doesn't seem like its as hot as before but from the CPU spy it seems like the phone is either in deep sleep or at 806 most of time. Here's the screen shot of the results using smartass gov. After about 6 hours. Going to try another gov. And see what results I get

I get this SAME problem on my HTC Evo (but unlike you nobody cared to answer). I tried fixing permissions and that didnt work. I tried full wiping and going back to nightlies I previously used (where it was working for sure) and that didn't work. I tried 4 different kernels from 4 different kernel devs (sbc and non sbc)..that didn't work lol. My brother recently switched to CM 7.1 and the same is happening to him. I'll be keeping a eye on this thread
Are you flashing anything after you flash the ROM besides the kernel
Sent from my HTC Liberty S using XDA App
Nothing besides the kernal. Starting to think it was an app because I had four that were not from the market that I got from here on xda one was pins music mod and the other three were beta tests maybe one was not playing nice with my phone. After leaving my phone on the charger overnight with it set to never sleep when on charge because I use at my clock at night it appears to have set at 245 all night which is the minimum I have the CPU set to. So its definitely scaling back and going into deep sleep when not in use but still seems to spend a lot of time at 806 when on. Here's the latest screen shot of CPU Spy

With my understanding of the governors my aria with dc 891 is scaling correctly as it should. Although my phone should use more of the intermediate frequencies more than just stair stepping straight to max for whatever reason. In your case it seems that there is some stuck process making your phone peg at 806. To bad there isn't a app that tracks uptime of each and every app and process at work on your phone and how much cpu muscle it calls for.

You should be able to tell from Spare Parts. Both "battery history" and "usage statistics" should make it obvious is an app is maxing out your CPU.

IMO, the governor is functioning as it should. If it stair stepped it's way up every time a load was placed on the CPU, the lag would be quite noticeable.
What you're seeing is your phone sitting basically idle, with the exception of some short term background tasks running periodically. For example, if at the same time, you were to use BT to stream some music to a headset for a couple of hours, basically keeping a fairly constant load on the CPU, you would see a lot more cpu time spent hovering between 400 - 600.
I understand what your saying. When I originally posted this it was stuck at 806 and not scaling back I was watching a CPU widget on my home screen and it wasn't moving from 806 and the phone was mad hot and I was watching the battery drain as well. After removing the apps and running fix permissions it is now running as you stated it jumps up to take on what ever I am doing then scales back and waits. I don't. Know for sure what caused the original problem.
Just on a side note I also was using 2 year old class 2 SD card running s2e with 130 apps and cache both on sd ext. maybe my card was going bad and under class for the job so I replaced the card with a new class 4 16gb last nite may have had nothing to do with it but thought I would mention it. Thanks to everyone for contributing with ideas and suggestions.

Okay just happened again this time with quick system info app I think I found the culprit android.process.media it was showing 85% CPU usage. After doing some googling it seems to be the general consensus that it is a corrupt file on my SD card. When I replaced the SD card I formatted and created my ext. partition and then copied everything over from old card so I am sure I probably moved the corrupt from the old to the new. Problem is I have over 7gb of stuff on the card and don't know where to begin to find and remove the corrupt file or files. Any suggestions or thoughts?

Since you think it is a media file, copy all media files to a pc;then manually select each to play on the pc. Delete those which will not play correctly. VERY time consuming, but lets you save all the rest of the files.
Just an update when I connected my phone to my pc I got a pop up that said something along the lines of media device may have corrupt files and asked if i wanted to scan to fix so selected ok after the scan was complete I have never had the problem again. So I am pretty sure it was something on the sd card that was causing the problem. Thanks again to everyone who tried to help me out.

Also found some anti-virus programs can cause this - usually shut down the anti-virus scanning usb ports. Solved my issues.

Usually "Do You Want To Scan And Fix Removable Disk" is seen when a device is connected to a windows computer after being hot disconnected the previous time. If you have write caching enabled (helps performance) it's best to use "Safely Remove Hardware" from the system tray. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/10392-write-caching-enable-disable.html

Hi,
Lets start this first, Im Dumb. Plain and simple. I know there are a lot of threads about batteries but its mostly people whining about it. All im looking to know is am i getting the right amount compared to some of you guys? and am i set up to even know how my battery is doing.
Im on the UCLE5 Goldie rom (Love IT).
i had a 20 minute phone call and thats it hadnt really used it since this morning. Took it off the charger. 20 min phone call, and about 3.5 hours later im at like 83%. Is that sound about right to you guys? I have chargers at my desk and in my car so im never far from power. But i would love to know how im doing.
Lets say that its not up to par. What steps should i take to maybe find out whats causing a problem should there be one? I have always read that task killer programs are actually not that big of a deal on the android platform.. im not sure if thats true or not but i have tried to research and it seems to be a consensus around it.
Please let me know what ya all think and thank you for all your help and patience in reading a topic i am sure you are all very tired of.

I'm on Electron73's UCLF5 stock ROM with a few mods and that seems about right.
I've found task killing apps to actually HURT my battery life. The reason is, everytime they kill a task that autostarts, it starts right back up. This uses processor power and, therefore, battery.
I would recommend trying out Battery Monitor Widget on the Play store. It's by 3C. There is a free version and a pro version. I used the free version for about a month and then bought the pro version. It will give you some great insight as far as your battery life goes.

Alright, so, no, that sounds TERRIBLE going from full to 83% in 4 hours with only a 20 minute phone call.
Im on stock, unrooted and (having just tested), I go from 100 to 96% after a 20 minute call.
So, one of three things are happening here.
1. Your phone isnt deep sleeping
Solution: cpuspy. There are instructions for how to set it up and use it, since I have never used it, I cant help you here.
2. Radios (GPS, Cellular Data, Wifi, Bluetooth, NFC)
Manually turn them off or use a tool to automate this. There are a number of them out there, Juice Defender, AutomateIt, or my personal choice, Tasker (listed in order of ease of use but least features/functionality to most difficult to use but has most features/functionality).
Personally, I dont think your radios would be the problem, but nonetheless, they are something that if you can control their use, can save you some battery.
3. Rogue apps
This is absolutely the most tricky one to figure out.
Option 1: Start by installing Titanium Backup from the market and do a backup of all USER apps (copy the backups to your PC before proceeding!!). Then you should do is a factory reset (Settings->Privacy), then install cpuspy, battery monitor widget pro (by 3C), and Titanium Backup from the market and use Titanium to restore only the bare minimum apps you need on your phone to survive (in other words, install only what you need, NOT what you might need). Slowly add apps (again, that you actually use) and monitor the phone. I usually will add 5 at a time, if I notice a significant battery drain after adding five, its easier to determine the potential cause.
Option 2: Now, since the above is an absolute *****, another option that might appeal is a little app called Autostarts. Launch it and as soon as it is done loading, hit your menu button and look for an option to 'Group by Application'. It might also not be a bad idea to enable the 'Hide System Apps' option unless you know what you are doing'. Once you have done this, start at the top of the list and disable EVERY condition that an app has listed under it unless one of the following is true:
1. The app has a widget THAT YOU USE (if you dont use the widget portion, then this is not applicable).
2. The app has a scheduled task to perform under certain conditions or at certain times (ie. podcast client that updates your RSS feeds at a scheduled time, or Juice Defender which disables services, Dropbox which might sync your pictures if you have it configured this way).
Be aggressive WITH USER APPS. Even apps like Google Maps have absolutely NO REASON to be running in the background.
I would NOT touch system apps unless you know what you are doing. Unfortunately, I am not familar with ICS on the Note and what apps it considers a system app, I was very delicate with these, only disabling things like Gallery, Maps (on the Captivate, Maps was considered a system app), & Music.
4. Non-updated apps
Lastly, I cannot tell you how stupid people are about updating their apps. Obviosuly, it isnt applicable to everyone but to give you an idea, my sister handed me her phone and it had 47 app updates. Just last night, I looked at one of our company phones and it had 33 app updates and a system update.
Samsung is SUPER terrible about linking their apps to the market correctly. Launch Titanium Backup and hit the menu button, under settings and I think More, you will find an option to link apps to the market (it might be called market doctor, I havent used TB in a long time). This will make a number of stock apps show up under your list of installed apps when you open the market and allow you to easily hit the update all button without having to manually search for every app you have installed on your phone manually, one by one.
App updates are extremely important, often times, security vulnerabilities and performance improvements are made (this might include battery life improvements). There are a number of ways to have your apps automatically update if you dont want to manually do it (me personally, I like to know what changes came to each app).
I also don't think my phone's battery is up to par with most of you on this forum.
I just bought an i717 from Telus and recently got the battery replaced because i was getting about 2-3 hours (which was unbelievable). So i got this new battery and tested it out for the past 2 weeks and as i'm writing this post, i'm currently sitting at 12% with 12h 7m on battery with only 1h 45m 'screen on' time. Screen is at the top of the list with 32% and Web second with only 12m CPU total.
Any of this sound strange to you guys? I constantly find my phone overheating when the display is on. I even have my radios being controlled with Easy Battery Saver and checked for partial wakelocks with the audio output being at the top.
Could it be my battery or do i have a faulty display?
Ok this is what i have done so far...
All apps were up to date
I turned off bluetooth.. GPS.. and Wifi (I did have these on all the time) and only turn those on when i need then
i used cpuspy and you are right it spends all its time at 380 mhz never going into deep sleep.
how do i determine what is keeping it from deep sleep?
@HVZY- What is your display setting at? Are you running gingerbread? How long have you had the phone for?

You can download Better Battery Stats from xda. This app will tell you what is giving you a wake lock. Really handy in finding what is keeping the phone awake.
I've accepted the fact that my EVO LTE is for the most part a worthless POS. Here's something I'm stomped on, though. My phone is currently running on the Viper 4G ROM and I'm using the Dolphin browser. I don't have a ton of apps installed on my phone and I have plenty of memory. Whenever I browse Facebook on my phone, I always use the desktop version like I always have throughout the years on my other phones that are supposed to be inferior, as far as memory and CPU power goes when compared to the EVO LTE. I've NEVER had memory problems on either of my previous EVOs.
After maybe 1.5 to 2 minutes of scrolling down my Facebook news feed, my phone starts to get extremely sluggish and it'll take a few seconds for simple script/words to come into focus. If I continue to scroll, the phone will completely lockup and become totally unresponsive to the point that I'm forced to do a reset. This problem occurs with the Dolphin browser and cache installed on the phone or when it's all installed on my micro SD card.
I have a 32GB SD card in my phone with tons of available memory... this is the location where my apps are SUPPOSEDLY installed. WHY THE HELL AM I HAVING THESE PROBLEMS WHEN THE APP AND CACHE ARE BOTH INSTALLED ON THE CARD?!?! Are the apps not truly being moved to the SD card like the phone says they are? Can anyone offer an explanation? I'm sick of having to reset my phone 6 times a day. I don't get it...

The phone has 8GB of internal memory - why bother moving it to SD card?
And why not use the FB app instead of accessing it through Dolphin?
Sad to hear that you don't like this phone and think it's a POS because I LOVE mine - have none of the issues you describe and I have a ton of apps, music, etc. on my phone. Good luck with resolving these issues.
I moved most of my apps to the SD card the other day with hopes that it would alleviate my problems.
I'm confused...Are you talking about running out of RAM or storage space? The problem you're describing sounds like RAM, which has nothing to do with your sd card...they are both types of "memory" but android doesn't use the sd card for extra RAM, it's only for storing data like a hard drive. There is 1gb reserved on the internal memory for running programs to use. Check the available RAM in Task Manager when your start having this problem and see if it's low. If so, you might try killing some other apps to free up some memory. Do you have this issue with the stock browser?

If you seriously think that the EVO LTE is a POS you should probably move on and get something that suits you better since just fixing the browser, FB issues probably isn't the only issues you have etc..
For one, like the other poster indicated, you have more than enough room for applications and storage on your internal memory so my advice is to utilize that since it will be at least 15-20 times faster for read/writes. If you still want to utilize the SD for apps for some reason, make sure you are using a good name brand, fast class 10 SD card otherwise your read/write speeds will suffer tremendously.
Also if using the SD for apps, remember that some apps won't work properly when the PC is connected to the SD and some won't work well during boot sequences until the cell is fully booted. But it sounds like you have a ton more issues, maybe you have a bad unit because for most, other than the hit or miss Sprint connectivity, LTE connections etc the EVO LTE is one of the best cells out right now so your issues can probably be resolved by replacing.
Good luck
I'm running the same rom, and have never run into what you're describing with fb or dolphin. If your running them off your card, maybe the card is the issue.
Apparently no one read my previous post. Thanks for the help, guys. I guess I'll just have to deal with it. BTW... my SD card is a SanDisk Class 10.

Yeah, but this phone still shouldn't lockup as many times as it does on a daily basis from very light usage after it has been reset. On my EVO 3D, I can scroll continuously through 2 days of Facebook history and not have the issues I'm having with this LTE.
Just checking lol. I jumped to cmx and haven't looked back. I don't take many pics so losing image sense doesn't bother me much. You could always try aosp

Hi. I'm using a rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100G, running on stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 with Blazing Kernel v10 by Ryuinferno.
Ever since i rooted my phone, my phone wont respond to any buttons, but it is definitely running because it is hot and the battery is drained at a fast rate. The screen remained off and i had to do a battery pull to restart the phone. But I have been pulling out the battery way too many times and i am getting tired of it. I have tried installing wakelock detector to see if i can find out the cause of the problem. But I had to do a battery pull to turn on my screen, and by doing that the stats are all gone. Is there any suggested solution that i can do? I dont want to do a factory reset on my device. I suspect that there is a problem with my Trickster MOD or SetCPU profiles. These are my profiles:-

CPU 600 - 300, Governor lulzactive
Priority 50
4. Battery <= 40%

5. If all of these are true(Screen on and Screen unlocked)

Is there anybody out there who can help me?

Turn off phone by pressing power button for 10 seconds . battery stats and wake locks stay in RAM and because they have battery RAM remains almost intact and nothing disappear so you can check them when phone is on

Yeah, your phone is experiencing SOD's (screen of death). It can happen for a couple of reasons. You could be looking down the right path for your profiles, if no one else is experiencing them with the same kernel as you. It can be a kernel bug, but if no one else is experiencing the same issues it'll be your setup. Start reading up on what causes a SOD in terms of governor profiles, there are certain do's and don'ts. As I don't use the same governors (or kernel) as you, I can't pinpoint your problem. Droidphile (xda user) has made a great post explaining 'kernel governors, i/o schedulers, CPU tweaks' or something to that effect. Good place to start reading

i think i found out the cause of the problem. Apparently stock rom do not provide some kind of code to prevent SOD. It seems that i have to use AOSP rom or revert back to stock kernel. Is there any kernel that supports stock rom that u can recommend to me??
Hum...stock ROMs shouldn't suffer from SOD, so wipe it all out (or even nuke it) and don't worry, it's not gonna happen again

Hmm that's what I thought too. But before I rooted mine, after the update to 4.1.2, I was having a SOD on average once every two days over the course of a month after the update. No idea why, but it's part of the reason why I rooted it. Tried a factory reset and was still having problems. Didn't nuke it as that requires root and I figured I may as well run a custom ROM as well if I was rooting.
Were you on custom before the JB jump?
Nevermind, you weren't even rooted.
Dalvik might be the key here.

Theoretically, stock kernel and ROM is the most stable combination you could have. That's what Gaston was saying, and I agree. The only problem is that in your case (and mine previously), it wasn't. You can try tweaking your profiles, but you already have minimum frequency set to 300 MHz. You don't have 100MHz enabled do you?

i had to agree that stock kernel and rom is stable. but it is so laggy at times and it is frustrating. TT. my minimum frequency is 300MHz. i had 4 SOD today ._. so annoying

Make a nandroid backup, then do a total wipe, flash the kernel and and see if it still occurs before setting your profiles. Then when you're done testing you can at least restore the backup, and you'll know if the SOD's are caused by your profiles or the kernel not playing nice.

I did a nandroid backup, full wipe, and tried using Stock Rom + Blazing Kernel without having SetCPU. Had 4 SOD. Then yesterday night I did a full wipe again, and this time using Stock Rom and Stock Kernel 4.1.2 without SetCPU and had 3 SOD. What to do T.T the warranty period ended too T.T

That is unlucky indeed, although I have seen it once before. (It was my mum's brand new S2, second day since she'd bought it and got a SOD. Rather than let me troubleshoot it, she returned it for a new one.) Have you tried running a custom ROM with its stock kernel? Something that's stable, say RootBox 4.0. That was rock solid for me.
You're mucking around with non-standard CPU settings/profiles/etc & you're honestly wondering why you're getting SOD's ? Set everything back to stock frequencies/settings & start again, only make changes very slowly/incrementally (25MHz at a time, for example) until you find out what works with the CPU in your phone (this is often quite variable from device to device). Do this for every phone state given you've been running 5 different profiles. Don't try to work out what works with or set all profiles at once; start with screen on/unlocked, (I.E when you're using the phone) get that right, then do the others in turn.
There's been a bit of overthinking going on thus far methinks.

At first I thought there might be an error in the way i set my CPU or the Kernel. I did a nandroid backup, and i did a fullwipe. At that time, my phone is running on stock rom 4.1.2 and Blazing Kernel. I did not install SetCPU so I dont think i tweaked the settings for the CPU settings, but Im still getting SODs. Then I tried doing a full wipe again, this time using stock rom stock kernel. and i am still getting it. Since it is all stock i dont think there is any way i adjusted the frequencies......
Hi,
I Have a European Samsung Galaxy s3 I9300
I Have something issues about it:
First it is over heating from the bottom back of the phone. The place I mentioned is circled here:

Second its battery is really draining fast. Here are screenshots. I fully charged it. Then I slept. When I woke up approximately 10 hrs later. Battery was 10%
Lastly, when I press power button screen responses a bit late.
Now, according to the info I gave you folks, do you have an idea what my problem is? Is it about battery or chipset or something else?
Btw, device is running Android 4.3, rooted, many bloatware were freezed with rom Toolbox. I use nova launcher. Battery recently calibrated.
Thanks in advance
Really can't say anything about this until you experience the same on a freshly flashed stock rom with factory reset without any user apps installed.
Behind the circle sits the Exynos CPU which will get warm if it's constantly on high load.
A defective MicroSD card can also get really hot and cause battery drain.
Btw you really don't need apps like JuiceDefender on Jellybean, it uses more battery then it'll save imho.
In the battery menu, go into Google Play Services and find out how long its awake for, I find that it will keep the phone awake for two hours. This will prevent the CPU from sleeping causing battery drain and heat

I can't reset my phone because it really holds important info. And I do not trust Backup/Restore apps.
I installed Juice Defender only to try. But as you mentioned it didn't help at all. So uninstalled it.
I removed SD card and Phone became more Stable. Should I use Phone without SD card or will formatting it be the sollution?
But unfortunately Late Response of Power button While Waking up the device still conitnues

Have a read of the threads by people desperate to recover lost data, the s3 isn't a bank vault and you can't rely on it.
Get titanium backup and store copies of the backup on your pc and cloud, then factory reset.

But you do trust your buggy S3 to save your 'important info'?
Important info should be backed up.
Titanium Backup and CWM backup can easily be trusted.
With problem solving you want to exclude possible causes. Your software could be screwed and thus giving you this problem.
That's why you'll need to go back to a fresh factory reset to exclude that it's the software causing this.
This is basic knowledge.
Good luck.

You don't need to purchase it to backup or restore.
If you want to restore from CWM backups and automate the restore of your apps then you'll need the pro version else the free version will suffice.

I restored the pure stock Android 4.3 but nope.
Removing SD card helped a little; but late response of power/home button when screen is off still, rarely, occurs.

try *#0228# on your phone dialler.
then press the button. it should calibrate your battery.
Lag on waking is a feature of 4.3, means the phone is deep sleep.

@ramiki: useless post: after 17 months he surely has done.
Trying to figure out why my battery life is relatively crappy (usually averaging >8% drain/hour under typical use), even when I'm not using the device.
Anyone on Marshmallow (Android 6.0) able to experience the 'Deep Sleep' processor state? I cannot, and I'm trying to determine if there's a particular app (or more) that's causing wakelocks, or if this is just something I need to live with. Without root, it's nearly impossible to tell what's causing wakelocks directly.
If it is an app, I can try to find it, but I really don't want to uninstall and then selectively re-install hundreds of apps only to find out that the device doesn't sleep anyway (if rooted, I could freeze all user apps and then slowly unfreeze, but that's not an option without root).
To be clear, I'm NOT talking about the Doze feature that comes with Android 6.0. I'm talking about the Deep Sleep processor state that is below the low (384Mhz) processor state.
On all my other previous devices, I've achieved this state - granted, most of these were rooted, and I had custom ROMS and custom governors. This device seems to use the Interactive Governor. Maybe that governor doesn't sleep at all?
Anyway, if one or more of you confirm that you're achieving this state, then I'll burn some more time on it, otherwise....
thanks!

Yes, Android 6. Unfortunately wake lock info is all but useless without root, unless the offender is really obvious.
I uninstalled almost 130 apps, and this far have reinstalled a little over half. The good news is that she's sleeping again. The bad news is that I'm still not sure which app was causing the issue.

Be thankful you aren't me right now. I just rooted and put xposed on my phone and my battery is draining from 100% to dead in about 2hours 45minutes...with no screen on time. Granted I'm using wifi tether but still that isn't good, nor normal. When I'm using the phone it's dying at an extreme rate; Like phones from 4 and 5 years ago would. Battery usage says android system is causing most of the drain. Something is seriously wrong ><

That's just wrong. Did you change out the ROM for a custom one, or just root? You might want to try a full wipe and start over if you haven't already.
Truthfully, a couple months ago I debated not taking the MM upgrade so that I could root 5.1.x. - ostensibly to give me more control over battery-related information and activities. I took the upgrade, and - now that my device is sleeping again - I'm kinda glad I did - Android's getting better at controlling rogue apps and with other battery saving methods (e.g., Doze mode). I guess what I'm saying is that if you can't fix your massive drain issue, you could always unroot and take the upgrade ...

I got it sorted. Back to normal battery life.
I was actually on MM for a while but I had to get another phone because my old one started having some screen issues and the one they sent me had 5.1.1 on it so I decided to go ahead and not upgrade this time so I could root and have xposed. For now I'm sticking with 5.1.1 Now that I have everything setup I'm getting great battery life. I got over 4 hours of SOT time yesterday and today 6/6/2016 I got over 3 hours of SOT and 2 hours of tethering and about 10 hours overall before having to plug in.
Once I wiped after OTA my battery was WAY better.
I'm having a serious battery drain problem that i cannot figure out. I'm on mm 6.0 and the phone won't doze nor deep sleep. I did a factory reset several times and it's still eating battery in a ridiculous manner. Any help is appreciated.
