[Q] Connection Issues??? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm running MR2 Froyo. I was having vm issues and that seemed to been corrected. But now I'm having data connections. I've data wiped (all 3 wipes), and reloaded the OS. It worked for a minute, then it went down again. I'm able to receive calls (phone will ring), but can't hear the person and vice versa. Not able to connect to the web unless I'm connected WiFi. Like I mentioned before, it was working after I reloaded the OS, but hasn't worked anymore.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Edit: Earlier, I was able to check my vm and hear the message. But ever since then, I can't hear anything. Should I go back to stock (non-root), and called CS?

What ROM are you on? Also, what MR2 are you using? Try out the MR2.75 aka MR2 OTA. When you first flash it in let it marinate a bit before trying to use it.

DasBAMF 1.3 Bluetooth issue??

I have been a lurker here for a long time. But have needed to register in order to figure out if I have run into a bug...or if I did something wrong.
I registered just now...so I am not allowed to post this in the Dev sections...so please forgive me for putting this in the General Section.
I am not new to rooting or loading roms on android phones. So I don't think this is a result of a mistake or issue with either of those processes.
I have noticed that since loading DasBAMF 1.2 (first version I loaded...so can't speak to earlier versions), my bluetooth voice no longer syncs voice with my car. What is weird is the media sync is working fine...but it just cannot connect to the phone for calls.
BTW...It did work when I was using stock OS.
Thanks,
bump....anyone?
did you try wiping ?
oh yes....
Full wipe-> Install DasBAMF1.0-Logged into Google->let sit for 45 mins->checked all contacts settings and what not to make sure everything was settled->recovery-> no wipe->install DasBAMF 1.2->install apps only via TiBackup->used for 2 days->recovery->no wipe->install DasBAMF 1.3
BTW...had the same issue with 1.2 (but that might have been obvious).
Thanks for the response.
Have you wiped since you installed 1.3? I have had similar problems as you, with other devices, and this one, and usually after several attempts I can remove the device from the BT pair window and repair.
I would try the latter first, then do a cache wipe, dalvic wipe and a factory reset and check.
No issues with BT connectivity in my car or my headset. Version 1.3 actually connects faster than the other ones did for me (including ROMs on my Droid 1). I haven't tested it yet but I will with my next ROM but historically my connections have come back using TiBu so I'll be testing that later.
My TB was working with my car radio and syncing via bluetooth. After performing the "1 click" root, having issues with bluetooth and car. Not sure whats up, still have stock ROM. I see others are having this issue even without root.
I just replied in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1018438
for pairing issues with a car, but along the same lines I was able to successfully make a call with no voice/pairing issues running Das BAMF 1.3. I haven't tried the media sync, so I cannot attest for that.
Never got this solved for DasBAMF.
Wiped and restored the virgin OS that only had root and nothing else, then installed 1.2, 1.3, and 1.3.2 ... Bluetooth would not work for voice.
So wiped and installed Liquid ThunderSense...and I am back in business. weird....but hey...at least I am good to go now.

WiFi stopped functioning correctly (running CM7)

GTab running CM v7.0.3 Harmony.
WiFi just stopped working correctly out of nowhere. It'll go from "Scanning...", to "Connecting...", to "Disconnected", in an endless loop without ever actually connecting.
I tried just rebooting, and nothing. Tried even flashing back to stock (two different versions), then to the latest Nightly, then back to v7.0.3, then did a restore (just to get back to where I was), and all of them had the same issue. None of them had the ability to connect, and still with that same looping.
I even tried some program I found called "WeFi". No go with that either.
I've had this tablet since the 19th, working perfectly. On CyanogenMod7 the whole time. No major changes were made to the system.
Does anyone know of a fix or something that could get me back to functional WiFi?
I'd appreciate the help.
Thanks.
I realize this is not the correct section for this thread but id like to say yours is not an isolated issue. It happened to me with Vegan-Gingerbread edition and i flashed all the way back to Belkins 1.0 2638 (nvflash) and its still doing it.
Strangely enough, it works from my home but will NOT work at hotels airports etc (even though my my lap tops and phones etc will connect from those same locations. This has rendered my gtab nearly useless (without wifi its useless) even though i am familiar with nvflash and trying different roms..i have no idea why the wi-fi keeps looping into this "dead" behavior......
Delete...wrong thread. Lol
Strange, just recently I noticed the same thing, but mine tends to drop connection when using wireless tether via my phone. Even though wifi says connected any apps utilizing wifi will not connect. I have to shut off wifi & then turn it back on only to have it drop once more in less than 5 min. I know it's not the phones end because I can wifi tether to my laptop with no problems & I'm able to connect to my home wifi with no problems as well.
I'm running the latest nightly build of CM7 & have been using it since it was pushed out (June 25th I believe). No other ROM updates other than the usual app updates have been installed. This has been going on for about a week now.
No wifi on CM 7
Me too wi fi on the GTAB running CM7 died today. All other computers are connected.
miracle...now working.
Someone wrote me a PM and made a suggestion to delete user. I tried that, and removed my home network from the list. I also did a hard reset on my router.
The next day, it just worked. So who the hell knows. I'm glad in any case.

[Q] (SOLVED) No Internet Access on MIUI 1.6.24.1

Since installing MIUI 1.6.24.1 I do not have internet/data access on my phone.
I can make/receive phone calls and txts, however I cannot connect to Google or Android Market.
I have tried EA28, EC01, and EC09 modems with multiple battery pulls (both plugged in and not) between each with no effect.
When trying to input my account info for Market I get "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server." Normally (on UKB 2.1) I have full service at my desk. My "3G" icon is constantly flickering on and off and under About Phone 3G Service only stays connected for a second then switches back to "Connecting".
Am I missing something?
Jp
Update: Solution found - See Post #25
Dial *228. The keypad won't pop up so hold menu and press 1 on the keyboard to reprogram your phone. I had that happen this morning. I didn't realize I didn't have internet since I was using wifi all night after I flashed it. The voice prompt will tell you it succeeded but the UI will say it failed. You'll lose service. Just reboot. Worst case scenario, if you still don't have any service at all shut down then pull the battery. Boot back up and you should be good.
Still no Internet.
My 3G connection only ever stays active for 8 sec.
I am currently on EC09 Radio which I really havent used much. However, I have found that for me EA28 was usually the most reliable Radio. Is it possible that EC09 just doesn't work well for me here?
Jp
That's definitely not the same issue I was having. My 3G icon stayed on the screen but all my apps simply told me I had no internet. The 3G icon never went away on me. Sorry I can't help you further. Maybe somebody else has some insight. Try reinstalling and possibly a new radio like you said.
You should try a new radio, I'm currently on Ed04 and I have had no problems with Internet.

That sounds more like the issue Crashspeeder described, you may only need to reactivate your phone. My data appears to be going down every 8 seconds.

ED04 has same issue on both MIUI and CM7, I am beginning to think it has nothing to do with the modem.
Jp
Keep in mind that CM7 MTD and MIUI MTD are essentially the same rom since MIUI MTD is based on CM7 MTD so I'm not sure your assessment is entirely correct. It may be that ED04 isn't compatible with these two roms. I'm on EB01 (yea, dinosaur) and it's working fine.
I did reactivate my phone but using *22804 for cricket in my area and one of the times it said failed I lost data pulled battery rebooted got it and still nothing ....and another it said success and still a no go
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Well I can cross off EC01, EA28, EC09, ED04, and now EB01 as things I've tried. None of them worked. That is my reasoning as to why I think it is unrelated to the radio.
Well, I guess I'll keep playing with it for a bit and try all the other radios I can get ahold of.
Jp
Hah. I would've stopped at 3. I think you've proven it's not the modem. I assume you tried reinstalling and still nothing. Not sure what could be going on

Seems that I'm in the same boat here............... app/market tries to connect and I see the data stream flashing but then in a few seconds it says no internet/ data connection. For reference I'm on Metro PCS and I had data working on Evil and Com rom.
Also I flashed JT's CM7 for a quick test and no internet on that either, wierd......

Yeah after flashing Miui and losing data I Odined back to stock and still got the same ..no data ... I'm on Cricket which is like Metro

I've been screwing with this all day. I have both the 3q flicker and sometimes it stays on but the arrows don't flash. either way no data. Flashed back to stock and data works. Also works on comrom with the last 3 radios (including the new ec09 leak).
otherwise the install went well for everything (both muiu and cyanogen). MUIU was a pain because i couldn't find terminal emulator but then had an idiot moment when i found it in the power menu but it didn't work, 3 of the 4 reboots did the same thing. hot boot was the only one that did anything different.
I've used the stock kernel and the OTB kernel. Same story both times. I'm not sure what other info would be relevant but I'm happy to help diagnose this problem. Getting a new fascinate because I was one of those who the ESN swap didn't fix my other data problems (cut out and slow). Maybe that's a lead? Anyway, i'll have a backup phone for a couple days if I want to mess with it without worry.
thanks for all the help and work. I like it a lot, it's super quick!
I'll just use it as is for today, but when I wake up tomorrow I'll flash back to Evil or com rom see if my data comes back. If data hasnt comeback when I flash back I'll check my data settings with QPST 2.7 and if need be I'll re-flash the data settings with Miui installed.
I had the same issue after flashing the latest MIUI build. Even after rebooting twice I still had no data connection. Oddly enough after doing a battery pull, then holding the power button down to clear any residual power; it started working again.
Update, I work graveyard so I decided to do it before i go to bed, anyway I flashed back to stock and as slow and pathetic as it is... data is working. I'm flashing evil as I type.......wait for it......."convert data patition , back up operation, blah blah blah Two Minutes" ..........*stares blindly at Samsung logo* OK! Evil is up and running with data which means something about miui and CM7 is breaking our data .
*warning, rant-ish*
I would hate to not be able to go back to Miui, I had my theme made up of of a custom Ore no Imouto icons everywhere *ashamed* with a custom font and a sweet HTC bootloading screen with the Fringe intro song Maybe data isn't too big of a deal besides who needs pandora, tapatalk, email, OMG! my precious Fantasy sport teams...... wait a sec, the NFL is still on lock out. Fellas we need to find a fix for this, preferably before the next NFL season.....My Solid Snakes HAVE to be back to back champs
So, a quick update...
First off, my Nandroid backup of UKB 2.1 is apparently corrupted or something because after flashing/repartitioning with EB01, I couldn't do a restore. So basically, I'm stuck with either MIUI with no data or rebuilding UKB 2.1 from scratch which undoubtedly will be a real pain.
Second, my data has now worked once. I was able to open Google today after my phone had been off for several hours. When I booted my phone up it was first stuck in Airplane Mode so I powered down and pulled the battery. When I booted back up, my data worked, I was able to load Google in the browser and when I searched for "test" it failed. It got part way into loading my search results when it crashed out.
So, it looks like I'm going to just stick with MIUI for the time being and just do without the data when I'm off WIFI.
The only thing unusual about my setup is that I am using the extended battery. It is the standard VZW 2200 mAh not any of the 3rd Party ones but I guess that could be making a difference.
If any developers want to see any logs or anything just let me know what commands I should run and I'll post the results.
Jp
With all cyanogen mod you sometime lose data after you poweroff your phone. Try rebooting or battery pull. If that doesnt work, you probly gonna need a new phone. I dont think its modem or rom related. The phone data anttena is done.

Lose data connection when using Talk

I'm having a problem that has me stumped.
YouTube
Earlier in the week, I noticed that I was unable to stream YouTube videos over mobile data. I could launch YouTube and it would bring up the top videos. I could search and it would get me results. I could not however get anything to actually play, when I choose a video it will just sit at the loading screen, and my bars will turn grey. I will not get a mobile data connection back until I back out of Youtube. I confirmed this issue with several different videos while in different parts of the state, so it isn't limited to a certain video or tower.
Google Talk
If I am at the main screen that shows who is online/offline, usually this will display properly. However as soon as I pick a name and go to send a message, my bars will turn grey and I will lose my data connection. It will not come back until I back out of Talk. Sometimes after this happens I can reopen talk and it will sit at the main screen for a while, get mobile data back, and display who is online and who is not. Most of the time, Talk will not work again until I force close it.
Edit: Talk will not disconnect until I actually send a message. The message makes it through most of the time, but then I lose mobile data. This results in Talk saying "Lost connection to Server. Messages will be sent when online."
I am on CM7 Nightly 20 with the stock CM7 kernel since the day Nightly 20 was released. Just to be safe, I did a full wipe in Fastboot erasing the following partitions before re-flashing: userdata, cache, webtop, system, boot.
I am unsure when this problem started. I know that YouTube worked last weeks, but when I think back, I can't remember the last time Google Talk worked while I was on mobile data. Note though, that while on Wifi everything works just fine.
I'm at wit's end here. I'm going to wipe the phone again and install stable Ba2tF and just Google Apps, and see what happens (after I flashed Nightly 20 earlier today I had the Market start spam reinstalling my apps before testing Google Talk - though I did get to test it and have it lose data after just a few apps were installed).
I'm on 30P for the radio, AT&T, Western Massachusetts, any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
I was going to post the same exact problem. The problem only appears over cellular. Over WiFi, everything works fine. Also, I just reflashed stock and it works. So it would seem to be a problem with CM7 and/or AT&T.
I'm going to get a good logcat of what's going on after I narrow it down a bit more... my current log is 1MB, which as about 2 minutes of info. I'm going to try to narrow it down to just the few seconds from when I hit "send" to when I get disconnected.
Hopefully at that point someone smarter than I can figure out what's going on.

Just thought I'd chime in and give some feedback. Tested this out on Weekly #2 both with wi-fi and regular data and everything was working as it should. I've been through a few different versions of CM7 and have not run into this.
Have you been using the same gtalk .zip each time? Maybe try re-downloading it along with your fresh install? Also, have you re-flashed your radio?
And here is a logcat capture. I force closed Talk, started the capture, launched talk, connected, pressed on my roommate's name, and lost my connection. The part that says "<SNIP>" is where my email address was.
I'm going to upload it here, then start to go over it myself.

Yeah, the GAPPS package ROM Manager lists as newest is still 20110828, which is also listed as newest on the Cyanogen Wiki. I never re-downloaded it, I've always used the same .zip everytime I've needed it... which is since Pre-Beta1.
I didn't flash my radio up to 36P when it came out since some people reported issues with it, and 30P had been working fine for me since June/July.
I am going to try to re-flash Google Apps now, this time without using the new version of talk that supports the front facing camera... since I never used the functionality anyway. I will report back in a few minutes.
DK
I tried reflashing both AT&T radios and both versions of Talk (w/ and w/o video chat).
For me, I get disconnected as soon as I open Talk. Happens every time. I froze Talk and I was disconnected when I got a Gmail notification. Maybe it was a coincidence but either way I was disconnected so the problem isn't limited to Talk. Maybe it's a problem with the Google Services Framework.
Here is what I think is a better logcat of what happens. This time, I setup CM7 to have long press back kill the currently active process, so that I could kill Talk right away.
I started the logcat from killing Talk and hitting the home button while it was restarted. I sent one message that said "Son" to my roommate, and lost my data connection. I then waited 20-30 seconds, killed Talk, it restarted, I got data back, I sent another message to my roommate that said "disconnect", and I lost my data again.
NOTE: This is with the Talk from the newest GAPPS (fresh download with ROM Manager), but not the one with the camera support (camera crap was cluttering the logcat anyway).
Anyone who is smarter than I able to see what's going on here?
DK
Same problem with CM7 Beta so I'm guessing there's some problem between CM7 and AT&T. I'm on AT&T in NYC.
I have a list of ROMs this does NOT happen on. I went back and restored to several points trying to figure out exactly where the problem started, and while I didn't find that, I do have a list that it does and does not happen to.
Talk Works on:
Prebeta2
Prebeta3
Prebeta4
Stopgap
Ba2tF
Weekly1
Nightly8 (likely it works on Nightlies 1-8, I just never made a backup after that and went right to 20 so I dont know exactly where the issue started with nightlies)
Talk does NOT work in:
Weekly3
Nightly20
So at some point between Nightly9 and Nightly20 (which includes the commits for Weekly3), something happened with Talk that is causing it to drop your data connection when you send message or refresh the friend list.
If any Dev happen to stumble upon this thread, I did take a logcat dump and linked it above as a txt file called "betterlog.txt" which clearly shows two disconnects while using Talk without having a lot of other "noise" in the logs from other things happening on the phone.
DK
Same problem, only I have this in Ba2tF. Odd thing is, I was running Ba2tf for some time, then all of a sudden this issue just appeared. I couldn't get it to clear, even after wiping data, caches, re-flashing etc...
Looks like this is nothing new. Check out CyanogenMod issue 3557.
---------- Post added at 02:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:38 AM ----------
Same problem in Ba2tF. I was running Ba2tF for several weeks, then this problem just popped up. Couldn't get it to clear.
Looks like an old CyanogenMod issue. Issue #3557.
I don't know if it's AT&T that changed or CM7 but the problem's gone since I started using weekly #4.

CDMA Connectivity acting funny

I tried searching before I posted this and saw nothing.
Here's what I'm currently experiencing:
4G connects and works fine
3G, 1X, SMS all not working
When attempting to make phone calls, it rings a few times then says "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, please hold to connect to an external operator."
All incoming calls go directly to VoiceMail.
Upon boot a warning about global roaming incurring significant charges, and the signal bars have the triangle above them (to signify roaming, I'd assume).
Here's I broke it:
Was running AOKP through Boot Manager on top of RezRom S4 V2.5
VVM wasn't working so I thought I'd try flashing Viper-VM-fix-test.zip (file attached for reference) through Boot Manager, because it worked on a few other roms I'd tried
Problems as above started, tried full /system,/cache,factory reset wipe and nandroid restore, issues persisted
Tried full wipe again and fresh flash of RezRom, issue persisted
Can anybody help point me in the right direction so I don't break my phone more while trying to fix it?
In a move of desperation I just flashed the 3.14.605.5 RUU from the PH98IMG.zip (twice) and loading into stock I still have the same issue.

sounds like an authentication message, better call tech support and see if they can reset it or it could be sim related as well.
Tech support says my SIM card is borked. Gonna swing by a store tomorrow and grab a new one. Hopefully that's all the problem is.
Well, replaced the SIM card and that wasn't it. Verizon is sending me a "new" phone. Hope I don't end up as one of those refurb horror stories.
But I did start receiving texts this morning. Still can't send them, though.
