[Q] CM7 not turning on after power down while charging. - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a strange glitch, perhaps, with my phone. If I power down or reboot without the USB plugged in, I can turn it back on without a problem. If I'm plugged into the wall or my computer when I shut down, it doesn't come back on. I have to take out the battery to get it to be able to power back on.
I'm running CM7 test 11 (7/17), the most recent Glitch kernel (ML), and EC09 baseband. I'm OC'd to 1.4GHz -50 mV. Everything else is stable and good. Is this effect an OC instability symptom, or something to do with the CM7 ROM?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] comrom 2.0 and 2.1 Fascinate wont charge when off

How can I fix this besides not turning the phone off to charge and keeping my fingers crossed that the battery wont go to zero and then I wont be able to charge battery?
4) what is your *specific* problem...not "omgz ma ****z be borked yo"...that helps no one and frankly is annoying to see...
When phone is turned off, I plug in charger get grey battery on screen with progession symbol but battery does not turn green. The phone actually locks up when power cord is plugged in and is stuck with the grey battery with progression symbol. Upon unplugging phone, grey battery symbol remains and I can not power phone up. Have to do a battery pull to restart phone. I went back to stock and went back to ED04 and this does not happen. Only with comrom 2.0 and now 2.1.Yes I have tried it with a different modem via odin and also flashed via CWM. Yes I have cleaned USB on phone aned chargers. Yes I have tried different chargers as well. I have a spare and the original. I have tried to charge it on laptop, desktop and wall outlet.I love this rom it makes my phone perfect. I hope you guys can figure out whats the cause of this issue cause I cant do stock froyo....lol ..no really I cant deal with its lameness!! SAVE ME!
1) post your exact setup (version of com rom, kernel, voltage settings, any other mods you did flash)
com rom 2.1
coming from com rom 2.0 - cr20_nomodem_nuts_shark odin -This version contains no modem/radio and imnuts' 05/31 PBJ -50mv nonvoodoo kernel
baseband ed04
build number ed01
2) did you wipe data/cache/davlik cache before flashing the rom
package did that in odin
3) what rom/setup did you flash com rom over
flashed 2.1 over 2.0
odin'd 2.0 over stock verizon froyo
5) ive said this 500 times already, but hey whats once more LOGCAT!!!!:

Are you using the miui lock screen?
good day.
The battery stays on screen after unplugging?

Hello and thank you for replying and trying to help me figure this out. This occurs with or without lockscreens. I have used the MIUI screen but again as I said it will happen regardless of lockscreen.

Hello and thanks for replying. Yes the battery, grey with progression symbol stays on screen once unplugged. The phone is turned off, I plug in power cord, get the grey battery with progression symbol. Unplkug phone, still has grey battery symbol. Attempt to turn on phone, nothing. In order to power up, I have to do a battery pull. The screen essentially locks up once phone is off and power cord plugs in.
fixed!!
Thanks to JaeKar99!!! He did a brief review of my logcat and had me check some things but the final solution was changing kernel. Had to go from imnuts pbj to comavolt. Once that was done powered off phone, plugged in, and GREEN BATTERY! Thank you and hope this can help anyone else who has that issue.
Good to find this, I was having the same issue, was driving me up the wall as my kid had played one of his games on my phone and ran it down so far that it would nearly not power up. I had just enough juice to power it up, and get it plugged in and charging before it nearly shut off.

random power off

every now and then, my phone will completely shutdown by itself. the only way to get it back on is to do a battery pull. it doesn't matter what kernal/radio/rom variation I use either. oddly, I find it seems to do it when I set my phone down for awhile. I haven't experienced it while I'm actively using the phone.
is this a common issue? fix?
Power Off
I have had the same issue. I thought it was something I did wrong. Beware, the problem suddenly got much worse for me today. My phone will only stay on about 90 seconds before powering off. It powers off even while in RECOVERY! It powers off unplugged, plugged into ac, and plugged into usb. The only time it does not power off is while in HBOOT. Does anyone have a fix to this problem or am I stuck going to Verizon and telling them I dropped my phone in the toilet?
Did you recently overclock because i was messing with mines today and it wojld also do that but now i got mines at 1.9ghz and has stopped doing that i guess mine is stable
Mine shuts off if i under clock it to low. 368 is my stable underclock. Anything lower and I risk being late for work LOL.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
I have been using Imoseyen's (please forgive any spelling errors as I am doing this from memory) lean kernal 3.8.0 with the 184 MHz option left locked with bamf forever 1.0.7 for a few weeks now. My phone would freeze and reboot if I even tried to run at the 184 MHz setting, but I never had an issue with it at the 245760 Hz setting but I would up the power to 875 for that speed up from the 850 value used in extreme option. After I fixed power and speed values in init.d, I had an incredibly fast and smooth system (2500+) quadrant with a sense rom 245Mhz-1.6 GHz overclocked and undervolted at my custom power values.
Yesterday I decided to try an A05P rom to see if they were faster than the sense counterparts. I tried ShiftA05PHacked V2.7 again with Imoseyen's lean kernal for A05P 3.9.2. I did a nandroid of my stable and wonderful sense rom then did a complete wipe (dalvik cache, battery stats, system, and factory reset). So I get this puppy running and do all the same tweaks and things I did to my sense rom and I end up with an amazingly fast rom! I got a quadrant score of 3000+ when clocked from 245Mhz to 1.59 GHz. Again it was very stable but I missed my sense stuff so I thought I would just nandroid and wipe again to try a few more roms.
The next time I wiped and loaded Liquid Smooth v 1.6, I never got it booted before the random power off thing started happening. So I reboot into HBOOT by holding down volume after it powers down and go into recovery. I immediately attempt to format /system to no avail. I have wiped everything multiple times and cannot get my phone to stay on in recovery. Any ideas???
Problem Solved
Hey all, I have a solution to the problem I had and would like to share it. It isnt pretty or fun but it WORKED!
I tried to flash a rooted/deodexed stock rom as HBOOT was the only thing working for me...didnt work. My last step before dunking the phone in the sink with the screen on was to put a truely stock ruu (unrooted and all) on it. For whatever reason this cured the problem! I have since then re-rooted my t-bolt and have been able to get back to testing roms and tweaking to my flash-addicted heart's content!
BTW I have seen a lot of confusion about the flashing AMBER led light. It was due to the battery being dangerously low. Thank you to everyone here and the people at AndIRC #thunderbolt. You were great helps!

[Q] phone's power on WEIRD

Hello everyone,
My vibrant will only power on when I plug the charger and then the phone will start. If I don't plug it in, it won't start, it's dead and have no response. Also if I don't plug the charger and remove battery and return it in, it also doesn't start. Only with charger.
Rebooting works without charger. The battery is fine, it lasts 3-5 days, did a power off with 100% and won't start.
I have also tried clearing battery stats and davlik, also did a complete whipe and reinstalling rom again and the problem still presists...
I am also running on stock rom/kernal./ (2.1 eclair)
Thank you for your answer.

Boot Loop

I was running a 4.2.2 ROM...well, I was switching between two of them.
My phone started doing some massive reboots today, so I decided to reflash.
Now, if my phone is NOT plugged to charge, it boot loops. Gets up to the boot animation, then starts all over again.
If I plug the USB cable in and boot the phone, it boots all the way and the phone is fine.
HOWEVER, as soon as I unplug the cable, phone reboots again. Battery charge is full.
Running TWRP 2.4.4.0, and was flipping between JamieD's 4.2.2 and ManelScout's Vanilla, along with Ace's latest kernal and the UCMB4 modem.
Trying to determine if this might be a hardware problem. The OS is showing as battery full charge, but recovery shows battery % @ like 2%.
sounds like you may have a stuck power button

I read that in someone else's post. Physically, it seem like the power button is fine.
How do I "unstuck" the power button in this case?
I've already ODIN'd to stock GB, and downloading the ICS update. Pains me to be unrooted and on a stock ROM.
I need my phone operational ASAP, so I am struggling right now to get this thing functioning normally?
Do I need to take it apart? Is the power button "stuck" in the sense of software? Or literally physically?
BTW, the power button is responsive in terms of turning the unit on/off. Does that still mean it is stuck?
And what about the fact that the unit will boot up fully with the power plugged in, but boot loop if on battery only?
Try another battery. Yours may be going bad.

You hit it right on Agoattamer.
Just tried a fresh battery and all is good.
thanks!

That's odd... Why did this start happening?

I have the Verizon model. Yesterday, I rooted the phone, and flashed the last AOKP milestone build, then turned my phone off for the night, and plugged it in to charge. It charged just fine. This morning, I played around with the phone more, got everything set up how I wanted it, and let it have its first day use.
I'm getting ready to turn in for the night, and just now, I turned off my phone and plugged it in, but I noticed the screen stuck on the big battery image. I waited a while, assuming it would just fade off and then charge normally, but it just stayed stuck. I tried to power the phone on while it was "frozen" on this screen, but it was unresponsive. I pulled the battery, put it back in and connected the charger, and the same thing happened. I pulled the battery again, this time turned the phone on, plugged it in while it was still on, then shut the phone down, and after it powered down, it immediately locks up on the battery image.
It definitely wasn't doing this yesterday when I turned in for the night... Why is it doing this all of a sudden? Is this a known issue? Is there a way to solve this?
Hmmm that is weird. I don't think it has anything to do with the ROM you flashed (someone correct me if I'm wrong here...) because that phone off battery charging animation happens regardless of the ROM. Are you saying the phone won't turn on at all while it is plugged in now? It turns on when unplugged right?
Yeah, it seems like if I plug it in while the phone is off (or if I plug it in while it's still on and then turn it off without unplugging it), it gets stuck on that battery image and becomes completely unresponsive and I have to pull the battery.
Are you holding the power button for around 4 seconds when trying to turn in back on?

Yep. Held it for about that long, nothing happened. Waited a second, then presses and held it down for even longer, still no response.
It's strange to me that this didn't happen at all yesterday, and today, this happens. Him.
The last poster on the Unofficial AKOP + IR builds thread has the same issue. Might be a new AKOP issue then. I'd watch that forum for a while and submit a bug report to AKOP if the problem persists. Also try Odin-ing back to stock and re-loading everything and see if that fixes the issue (if you have the time of course).

I flashed a different kernel. Now when plugged in from power off the big battery image still freezes, but press power and screen will turn off. Hit it again and the small black and white battery charging animation comes up. Hold power and phone turns on.
Problem solved. It's the CM kernel. Now using ktoonsez kernel.

Hm. I'll have to look for that kernel.
By the way, does franco kernel not work with the S4? I downloaded the franco updater app I always used on my Galaxy Nexus, but when I go the screen for downloading the latest kernel like I've always done, I just get a blank screen on the S4.
I don't think he's made a kernel for us? Check original development subforum
