Emails not getting sent and empty sent folder - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm receiving emails just fine to my phone for my ntlworld email address, in fact, they get to my phone before they are received on my pc which is normally a few moments later. But when I send emails, it says 'sending..' then disappears so I'd assume it's sent but none of my sent emails appear in my phone's sent folder, the folder is blank and always has been. Also, I sent a test email to myself, to my ntlworld account, same thing, nothing showing in sent folder, and it hasn't arrived as email on my pc. I sent it hours ago, so it's not sending. What could be wrong?

What email client are you using, Stock or else? Try to check the Outgoing server setting, must be something messed up there.
Regards.

Stock. Well, only outgoing setting I can find is at the top of this screenshot 'Default Account'. Is there some other setting?

Oh, and this is my sent folder. Blank.

What? There must be an Outgoing setting option, it should be listed under the Incoming setting!!! Press Menu, is it there?
Like this,

When I press 'Incoming settings' it goes to a screen showing my 'User name' which is my ntlworld.com email address, and 'Password', and when I click 'Next' which is the only option to press, it goes to a screen saying 'Retrieving account information...' then goes back to the Account settings screen.

Man then your email server mustn't support IMAP/POP3, but what would it support then, lol? There HAS to be an Outgoing Settings option, otherwise it's quite normal that email's are not being sent. Hope you find your answer by someone experienced else.
Going to sleep, GN and BOL.

It seems virgin media who my ntlworld email address is with, doesn't support sending emails, or didn't used to and it would seem, still don't.
http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/Unable-to-Access-NTLWorld-emails-on-iPhone/td-p/3575

I think I've found the solution
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=646856
I need to do:
pop.ntlworld.com
smtp.t-email.co.uk
But, I can't seem to find where to adjust my settings? Maybe I need to delete my email account for ntlworld and start again?

try removing you account and setting it up with manuel settings...

Ye did that, and tried both smtp.t-email.co.uk and smtp.ntlworld.com on different port numbers but it won't work, says 'server does not support authentication'. I tried it with pop3 and also imap. It seems ok for incoming, just not for smtp.
So I've now set up my gmail email on the phone with the automatic settings and not the manual settings, and it lets me send emails which is great. But how do I now associate my ntlworld account with it so I can forward all mail received at the gmail account to my ntlworld account? Do I need to delete the gmail account and set it up again using manual settings, and with imap or pop3? Currently, I have both my ntlworld email account still on the phone and the gmail account. I can still receive email to my ntlworld account.
I read this on android forum:
"Had to set up a separate gmail account to send and using the smtp.gmail.com server. Then simply go into the gmail account settings (which u have to anyway to enable IMAP) and forward all mail received at the gmail account to your ntlworld account..a pain but easy way round the problem.
Forwarding covers the problem of recipients replying to your gmail emails; which obviously is the address they receive the message from.
You wont receive replies from them directly to your ntlworld address. They'll go to the gmail account. Set up forwarding on gmail to ntlworld address to resolve it."

[Q] One contact causes "Force Close"

So I have one particular contact that always causes "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly please try again [Force Close]" no matter how I get to it. I have a shortcut on my screen that crashes immediately.
If I enter the Contact app and click on the offending contact no information comes up, it just says "No additional Information for this contact" then the force close window pops up.
So this seems like a minor problem except the offending contact is my wife.
And here's where it gets strange. If I go look at her contact on my pc (in gmail) it all looks fine, It has 1st name last name, her picture, 2 phone numbers (mobile and work), 3 email addresses, birthday, anniversary, and google talk id.
So I delete the contact from Gmail, and refresh my phone. I create a new contact with her name and it immediately begins crashing again. If I create a new contact under a different name with her information it works fine.
As a last ditch effort I restored the phone to factory settings, and deleted her contact out of Gmail.
With a clean phone and no remains of the contact that I know of, I created a contact called "Test Wife" entered her information and everything worked fine. Renamed it to my wifes name and bam it starts crashing again.
I'm so lost. There has to be something in either android or gmail holding on to a corrupt version of her contact. I just cant figure out what. Any Thoughts?
I'm running Unnamed 1.2
Weird. What's your wife's name!? I want to see if it happens on my phone.

hahahahah well did it.
Ok, so I think I figured it out. It has to do with her contact info in Twitter. If I go into twitter and tell it not to sync contact info then all works correctly.
Well that's no fun. I was hoping for a glitch that'd be fun to mess with.

I've experienced the same problem when syncing with linkedin and facebook. I had to tell android to not sync both of these in order to keep my contact records 'clean' and not force a crash.
I just ran into it again on a different contact when skype tried to sync contact info.
This same thing is happening to me when I go to edit a contact or add a new contact
But i'm not syncing with anything (maybe google?)
How would this prohibit new contacts and/or editing a current contact?
how do I fix this?

It might be helpful if ya'll pulled and posted logcats so any dev who looks at this thread might be able to tell you what's breaking.
I really don't know why it isn't a requirement to post a logcat when somebody posts "I has a crash".
Thank jeebus for the search! I too was having trouble with contacts tab causing FC, and Facebook sync was the culprit. Sadly, I probably never would have thought it was something that simple...

[Q] Google Voice No Notifications

I am not sure if I setup the new phone correctly or not. With my old phone I went under Settings--Call-Voicemail Service and could select voice. With this new phone not seeing the option. Also I have to click and open to view if someone left me a message or not inside of Google Voice application. Is this because of how HTC is doing multi-tasking a little different? Thanks for any help or insight.
I'm not getting voicemail notifications from GV either. It started after I flashed a custom rom.
could be the sleep issue that seems to be plaguing everyone, but other than that im not sure what it could be
I saw someone else post but did not fully understand the sleep issue and since I have not unlock phone was not clear if that is what cause the problem or stock has the same issue. Thanks for the information.

i really don't know if it affects stock, but since all custom roms are having the issue then i would guess its also a stock issue? just a guess though since i dont develop roms, i just tweak them to my liking lol
I just called myself from a land line and left a voicemail. Within 30 seconds, I got an email and a text from GV notifying me of the new VM. I'm on Fresh 5.1.1 and have been about a week now. This is the first I've heard of this problem so I was worried that maybe something had recently changed. All appears to be fine here.

That's not the issue. Those are separate notifications. He's talking about getting a notification directly from the google voice app. You can turn off text and email notifications and just rely on the app. I have not been getting notifications from the app either.
You are correct timtlm that the app is not giving me the notifications anymore or I guess ever but still pretty new to the phone. Also wanted to mention in my old Evo 4g I had it setup to not to use the carrier voicemail service. Does not seem to be an option but that might be because of IC version.

OK, I just got it to show the notification. I had checked the settings in the app to be able to review google voicemail within the call history. I'm guessing sense doesn't support that since I don't see anything in the call history. After unchecking that, I started to get notifications again.

I unchecked it. It's in the Google voice app under menu, settings, voicemail display. It was unchecked by default. It's supposed to be a new ICS feature.
I already have that one checked. This is just so strange but guessing it has something to do with the sleep feature of the phone.

He said he UNCHECKED it i believe.
I also was not getting notifications for voicemails, but was for texts so I don't think it is a sleep issue. Sounds like unchecking that setting should give me voicemail notifications too, thanks.
I've been using Google Voice with these settings from the Sync And Notifications menu with no problems. I never did set up the Voicemail on the phone, and for messaging its Google Voice unless its a MMS instead of SMS. Google voice doesn't support MMS so it automatically goes to the messaging app. Notification works fine for all.
Just flashed cm11 and don't get GV text notifications.
Well I see them slide up in the top if I'm looking while I get a text but they don't stick. (Or no notification if it's off)
I didn't set up vm within GV, and I've reset GV app data, still no luck.
Also I use 2 accounts. 1 main one for email (and app purchases), and 1 primarily for Google voice.
I have no sync off for gv account. But the thing is the same setup on my tablet, I get notifications. (Same amounts, same sync settings, running jelly bean on tab, kit kat on phone)
Any suggestions?

Stock messaging app not displaying text messages

So I don't know if it's just me, but I noticed lately that my stock messaging app doesn't display all my text messages. For example, twice today someone sent me a message, and twice they were wondering why I never replied. I do have my sprint number set as my Google voice number, but I hardly ever use the google voice app to send text messages. Oddly enough, all my messages are displayed in my Google voice app, so I did receive them. Does anyone have am idea why the stock messaging app just doesn't display some messages?
Your going to have to uninstall and deactivate your Google voice. For some reason, no matter what setting you have Google voice, it will intercept all your calls and text.
I had to deactivate my Google voice account and wait the recommended 15 minutes. Reboot your phone and you should be fine.

You can still keep using Voice for voicemail while having text messages get handled by Sprint. Here's how:
First, deactivate Google Voice so we can start from scratch: Voice > Settings > Sign Out

Reboot (this is important). This should allow you to already have text messages working but to also have voicemail working in perfect harmony, do this:
Open up Google Voice again but follow my instructions for activating it. In the first screen hit skip NOT next. Next will activate Voice with full settings -- we don't want that:
Select your account and hit sign in. Hit Next and select how you want it to handle international calls (I chose mine to ask me every time). Hit Next and touch the 'dial *284066466449' button and wait for it to go through. Then go back and hit configure, select Google Voice.
To verify that you did it right, your Google Voice account (if you go into it with your browser -- voice.google.com) should look like mine:
Notice there is no 'text messages' or anything like that on the left hand side or tabs. If that doesn't work let me know and I'll look into it more. I had this issue before and it was annoying. Couldn't find a solution until I messed with it myself.
EDIT: After re-setting up Voice (had to disable it for screenshots ) I noticed that it now has a setting to allow messaging app to deal with texts. Settings> Notifications> Receive text messages through messaging app.
I can't vouch for that method, however.
It's not Google voice. It's the Evo. I don't have Google voice and I don't receive texts from at least three differ people. I been pissed about it for days. I'm about to download a messaging app and see if that help

In his case it is Google Voice (probably, since they do show up in Voice). With you, I would recommend profile update but if you already did that, early on some people were having issues with phone going into roaming and getting texts late or not at all. Re provisioning the phone fixed it.

Yea. Google and Sprint have agreements in place for Google Voice. Sprint users can also port their numbers to Google Voice directly without having to have a separate carrier number.
I use Google Voice and get pics to my phone with BOOST Mobile
I have my Gvoice settings set to:
Forward copy of my texts to gmail.
Some smaller ones do, some larger ones do not. I am almost certain that thumbnail sized simple jpegs will usually go to your smartphone.
Regardless, as long as you have this option, and an internet enabled phone, you may still be able to manually log into your gmail account to view any MMS messages that don't go to your phone. Audio and video too.

I receive images to my email regardless of carrier. I have gotten them from ATT, Sprint, Verizon and T-mobile accounts. I still can't send them out. I have to email any images.
When I first started using GVoice I was not able to receive any MMS texts. Then at some point the MMS texts came to my GMail. Then later on the GVoice app started doing what the OP said. I guess now GVoice can receive MMS texts and it notifies you on Gvoice but sends the media portion of it to your GMail.
ya on any phone i've used google voice ive never gotten mms at all. I'm using page plus as my carrier

Sending Whatsapp messages to non-contacts

Is there a way to send a whatsapp message in the same way I dial a number for a phone call or for an SMS text?
I type the number —> send message in Whatsapp.
So far the only way I know is to add the number to the contacts, and can’t find a way online to do what I want.
I volunteer as a translator for a charity and I need to message in Whatsapp to multiple numbers each day, and that’s a real pain.

Thanks a lot, sir, that’s really appreciated! I’ve just installed it and I’ll test it soon.
You are welcome. Can someone suggest an Xposed module for the same purpose?
Just FYI, I tested Click2Chat WhatsApp (by MTechViral). Works perfectly. You compose the message in Click2Chat, and it uses WhatsApp to send the message to the mobile number (not in your contact list).
I would still prefer not to have a separate app for the purpose though. Maybe an Xposed module which will introduce a compose message button in the WhatsApp UI itself like XInsta adds a "Download" option in the context menu in Instagram.

Yes, you can do so.
I have noticed another App that does this much better Message Any Number for WhatsApp.
I have just tested this app and started loving this tiny app, as it gives me freedom to send whatsapp to anyone without saving his or her number.

Here is your answer
Yes you can send messages to non-contacts. Here is the procedure
At first, you need to Install an app named as “WhatsDirect”, freely available on Google Play Store. The direct download link is given below tap on the app icon to download.
After installation, accept the app permissions and continue by swiping the startup tutorial.
On the home screen of the app, we see two options – Mobile No. & Message Content. (Must use your country code on the starting of the number).
Enter the mobile number and write the message content in the below box and tap on “Send Message”.
I found this on YTECHB website
I have developed a similar app. It also supports WhatsApp for Business app. https://goo.gl/w4kNnD
WhatsApp has an official API to open the chat screen using the mobile number.
The best part of the API is, you can use it to send messages to unsaved contacts.
WA Direct Chat app on Play store is doing the same, you can download the app here

That’s just a dumb suggestion. For a single chat of a few minutes I would pollute my contact list with a gazillion of unknown contacts.
If you read the first post of this thread, and not just its title, perhaps you would know that
“I volunteer as a translator for a charity and I need to message in Whatsapp to multiple numbers each day, and that’s a real pain.”
Thanks to all the others, I’ve never received a notifications of your replies!
Hi, As I am an active user of Whatsapp and I have used this app to send the images and videos. But if you want to send msg to any number which is not in your contact then you can use click2chat which is available on the internet. It will help you to send the message.
Asked Google but did not find an answer. Therefore, I have to ask here.
My wife told me the following story:
-she's got a WhatsApp group of 4 contacts on her smartphone;
- she is the admin, the ONLY admin;
- at some point the 5th participant appears in the group and starts sending spam; she has this contact in her phone, but she swears by God that she did not add him to the group.
Questions:
- Has anyone met a similar "hack"?
- Is it possible to look at some logs, when and HOW the "extra participant" was added/invited to the group?
Thank you in advance for your help !! %)))

Try this easy way. Open this website on your mobile https://jpsays.com/wau
It is a secured website for mobiles. No need to login. No need to install any app.
just type the mobile number and the message you want to send.
and don't worry. It's safe and doesn't require any special permission like any app installed.
It works with iPhone and Android Phones as long as you have installed Whatsapp Messenger
