[Q] Vibration for Notifications Not Working - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phones notifications have spontaneously stopped working. Was working tonight and today it isn't.
It no longer vibrates for all notifications including sms, email, Whatsapp, facebook etc. Vibration for calls and haptic feedback work fine.
I am using the stock rom. Tried jiggling all settings and many soft resets to no avail.
Any ideas? Please help!

Make sure once again that Vibration set to 'Always' under Sound - Settings.

Yes that was the first thing I tried haha

And you made sure that under Email app it is also set to Always?

Yes that and every single app that creates notifications. As I said this problem spontaneously manifested itself. It literally appeared overnight when everything had been fine and dandy before which is why I am so stumped.

Help! anyone else any ideas?

Well certainly the last option is to do a Factory Reset, what else could it be anyway? Make sure to Back up stuffs before

Random vibrate

Hi everyone.
This morning I unplugged my charger and my phone started vibrating randomly after a few mins.
The vibrating is very random and tje vibrating pattern is as if there was an incoming call. Yet, nothing.
I can't find any strange apps causing this (have checked with Privacy inspector and system tuner pro) also i've checked all internet sockets for strange connections (malicious apps may've caused, but wasn't, checked with quick info rpd)
I cant find a solution to the random vibrate. Anyone got any clues?

- Wipe the device (Recovery -> Wipe Cache + Wipe Data)
- Try reflashing a stock ROM + kernel
This means I will lose ALL data I have?
Apps, contacts, sms etc?

Now also my charging icon keeps showing that it's connected. But it's not.
-edit; it's off. But was on for no reason.

Yes, use Titanium Backup to backup apps, etc.

Try reflashing your ROM, if that doesn't work, please try searching on forum for this problem, I'm pretty sure many people had it before.
Hi Brian,
How did you solved the problem? I have the same problem right now.
Thanks.

SMS/MMS Notification Sound Cut Off

Lately I've noticed my SMS/MMS Notification Sound gets cut off in the middle of playing.
I'm using the "Whistle" notification sound. It worked fine the first day I had my phone (today would be day 5 I've had it)
I've tried restarting the phone, choosing different tones, fixing permissions, clearing caches. So far nothing seems to be working
It looks like it gets cut off when the screen lights up from the notification.
Anyone else having this issue? And if so, have you found a fix (besides using a 3rd party messaging app like Go SMS). I have the Sprint variant, stock rooted (LF9)

Yeah I had the same problem
But it only happened when my wife would text me
I did the same fixes as u did thinking that would work, but it didn't so I erased that contact put it back in and now it works right
Good luck

Wowwwwww you know what? It only happens to me when my girlfriend messages me lol. Wtf? That's so weird! Maybe it has something to do the most frequently messaged person? Gunna delete the contact and test.
Thanks!

It does this If you set a limit for incoming texts and have auto delete on. Erase all the messages when your at the limit and it will go back to normal again

Oh that makes sense. I had my auto delete set @ 120 SMS. So I'm guessing what happens is once the thread hits 120 and you get a new SMS the notification gets interrupted by the system deleting the last message in that thread to make it 120.
Well this is all very helpful. Problem solved. Thanks guys!

Another work around for this is to use zedge to assign your sound. For whatever reason, it bypasses the issue and the sound fully plays when a new message comes in.

Note SMS/mms vibration trouble

I tried to search to see if anyone else had the issue, but all I could come up with was different problems. My phone, all original Samsung ics, has stopped vibrating upon SMS and MMS notifications when the phone is in the vibrate setting, the phone works fine. Audible notifications work fine, but I rely on vibrate/silent a lot, and this is agitating. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to fix it, or should I just take this opportunity to root it and hope it works out? Thanks in advance!

Which galaxy note do you have? The international version or ? Also, do the touch buttons on the bottom still vibrate? Or when you type?

The AT&T version/LTE. Yes, the feedback, plus typing does work fine. Same with the phone ringer as well. Every once in a while the home key vibrates a bit long/harder than usual, but aside from that everything else is fine.

Okay, we are going to do a rest, go to Google play and download handcent its a SMS app, use it to text someone while set on vibrate. If that vibrates or not let me know. If is does, its a problem with your stock SMS if it doesn't still, make sure all vibrate settings are on (there is quite a few) if no again, you will have to hard reset it, everything will be erased, remember to remove memory card, and finally if that doesn't work, its the phone, either get it looked at or you may just have to deal. Rooting has perks, it also could fix this problem (not promising anything on that tho lol)

I'm sorry, I should have specified, I already did try handcent and gosms I think it was? Both work fine! I have been trying to avoid hard resets/erasing everything because I didn't want to lose some stuff I have setup, it is always so tedious! Haha. Anyhow, I think it is the native messaging app, I just figured maybe it had happened prior to someone else, and there was some possible fix without having to go through all that setup again! I guess I'm done being able to avoid it. Haha
Thanks for all the help, I do appreciate it!
Well, installing and removing those other SMS apps a few times seems to have "fixed" it, and all my vibration notifications are back again!

Annoying short vibration

My phone keeps (seemingly randomly) performing a very short vibration when using it. I've checked logcat but can't see anything obvious that's causing it.
I don't have haptic feedback on, no accessibility options enabled and no keyboard input vibrations. I've also turned off smart alert.
Its stock, rooted and I've frozen/removed most of the bloatware.
Any ideas?

"I've also turned off smart alert"
Thanks, but it isn't on (see above).
Does anyone have any real suggestions of what's going on?
I'm wondering if there is some kind of background error vibration that occurs?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I know this is a long route to take, but uninstall all your apps, or as many as you can, and see if this still happens, I suspect an app is causing this,I had similar on S1, and I'm sure it came down to a rogue app
I've found similar (maybe connected) issue. When I receive for example the text message the screen remains turned-off, however when I touch it, it shortly vibrates once. When I turn the screen on it is still at the pattern locker. Not annoying but strange behaviour.
