I am thinking about running the MIUI room that just recently came out on ROM manager, but I don't want to flash it if I cannot get back to stock and not receive the GB update when it comes.
Is there a reliable way to get back to stock yet? I have tried making a backup of my current state but every time that I do my X2 restarts...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Yes you can get back to 100% stock.. There is a flashable SBF that does it.

I don't think MIUI is available for the X2. Check the X2 development forums. The SBF thread in particular. The answer yo your questions are there.

I think the naming conventions of Droid's has caused a lot of confusion. Many things have been released for the Droid X and the Droid 2 at the same time, leading people to post about updates to the Droid X/2, which in fact is not the Droid X2.
I know MIUI is available, it is on ROM manager on my X2. And I found out about the imminent GB update on the X2 general forum.
So unless there are a lot more people than me "confused" by the names of Motorolas Phones, than I think it is probably true that GB will be here as a 2.3.4 build soon enough. I think that is why not much development has been done on this phone, why develop on Froyo when GB comes out so soon?

I haven't heard of any X2 owner using ROM Manager. A far as I can tell, to date, there are only derivatives of that chinese ROM floating around. I would research more before you flash whatever you see in ROM Manager. Unless you are skilled enough to un-brick your phone.
But hey... Let me know how that works out for you.

I will see what the DEV part of the forum says, but I will probably try to flash it tonight.
I will let you know how it goes.
Rom manager its probably seeing your phone as the atrix. You don't want to download a rom for the atrix, it will not work and you will be forced to sbf back to stock. There is currently only one rom fire the x2 and at least 3 others in the works.

Miui is most definitely not out for the x2.... but I guess it wouldn't hurt to try since you can easily unbrick

Yeah, it didn't work. Reflashed to stock. At least I tried I guess. I cannot wait until GB comes out on this thing. I wanna play with some roms and customize this thing.

Yeah I downloaded it from ROM manager and tried flashing it. It got about 2/3 of the way through the install and rebooted.
Had to go back to stock. A slightly annoying process, but i figured I may as well try and let the community know the results.

Im gonna take the update. I sbf'd last night. Im gonna try to save the update and install later. Im gonna see if the xda community can root it and I can go back to being bloat free

Im not rommed but im rooted, but i hear lots of people talk about SBFing to stock so they can get the update, but if your just rooted doesnt it not matter?
EDIT, never owned a Droid and have always used phones with easily unlocked bootloaders so this whole SBF thing is new to me
My experience with other droids, You will get the update still but it might fail installing if you are rooted. Some custom roms remove the ota ability.
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Also theres a good chance the sbf will not work if you take the OTA update just ask the atrix users
No root, no upgrade. I've got my Honeycomb tablet rooted, rom'd, and OC'd faster than the phone, I can hold out until Verizon allows a full unlock if I have to.
How would the abc not work after the ota? DROID x users can sbf from .496 back to 2.3.340 .then again I understand this is a new phone .... and ATRIX users can't sbf back to 2.2? Wow.

abc? I'm assuming you mean sbf.
The x did lose their sbf ability, then they got a new one. Any time a OTA updates the bootloader, the current sbf becomes worthless. New bootloader needs a new sbf.
BTW so far this isn't 100% confirmed but it *looks* like the x2 gingerbread update contains a new bootloader, meaning it probably will hard brick your phone if you try to sbf. So if you already updated, have fun waiting for the dev team to find an exploit to root 2.3.4. You basically updated to a D3 minus the keyboard.

I don't plan on updating until GB is rooted.
Seems like a lot of people around the net upgraded not knowing it can't be rooted, or are disappointed in the update (for trivial reasons). I will wait to see what P3 is doing today with it via his Twitter https://twitter.com/#!/P3Droid
I am waiting. In cases like this I suspend my usual early adopter mentality. I'd like to be able to root and sbf. I bought the phone after I saw the sbf (and days before Verizon implemented tiered data) so I feel no need to cripple myself.
That said, I am envious of those playing with their "new" phones today.

I tried that with stock Rom and it errors out saying the kernel doesn't support it. The phone is stock 2.3.4. I just downloaded CM7.2 for it and am going to install that to the device pretty soon. I have been taking things slow to make sure I do everything correctly because this is much more difficult to do than my droid incredible 2.

You can try that, but that is SO far left from stock ROM since there is no BLUR in it and all the apps are AOSP.
Also, HDMI doesn't work under CM7, so if you still want that, you won't have it. It's still a great ROM and it's pretty darned fast, but it does still have some issues with apps hanging once in awhile. Otherwise, it's not a bad ROM at all, especially since it was just released a few weeks ago.
I don't have much choice considering there aren't any roms that close to stock. I've had experience with CM7 roms so I know some of the issues that will rise with its use. I was trying to avoid using the 2.3.5 sbf and rerooting to use eclipse.

It's as close to stock as you can get without being stock. It is itself a 2.3.4 rom, so if you are on rooted 2.3.4 now then download, flash, reroot and enjoy.

I will have to reroot after I flash it? If so Im not going to be able to do that right now. I'm returning the phone today and I won't have time to take it home to my comp so I can root it again. A link to the page would be nice to if you don't mind.

I finally upgraded to one of the ginormous phones after fighting it for so long. I just couldn't take the "out of memory" errors anymore on my Aria. So now that I have the HTC One X, I'd like to sell my mint-condition Aria. It's got CWM and CyanogenMod 7.0.3, but like I said, with hardly any apps on it, it's constantly out of memory.
So my question is what should I do with this Aria before I list it on Craigslist?
Official HTC Android 2.2
Fresh CM7
Other?
Plain ol' stock Aria's are selling for $100-$125 here in LA. Should I add a premium price for having it rooted and custom ROM installed?
In my experience, having a rooted phone with a custom ROM had actually lessened interest in phones I've sold. I would go full stock, unrooted, stock recovery also. You never know when someone will want to do a factory reset, and if I understand correctly, this causes problems for rooted phones. The people that know how and are interested in rooting will do it anyway, the rest will be perfectly happy with it in stock form.
Good point. Thanks.

I'd go with rooted 2.3.5 liberty S rom. I'd delete some stock apps and overclocked the core. Then i'd sell it. But that's just me
Stock ROM I would pay less if the Phone's ROM is customed.
I'd just leave it on a stock looking ROM.

Dude... Jealous of your rooted One X!
stock with automatic transmission
My guess is you would have better luck for resale with stock ROM.
I base this on the experience of selling a nearly new car. I have always been a fan of manual transmissions and to this day that's all we have in the garage. About 20 years ago I was assigned overseas and had to sell a nearly new Mazda 626 with a stick. I got few calls, all of whom had overlooked "manual transmission" in the ad and backed out immediately when they realized it. I ended up selling it back to the dealer at a big loss.
Only five percent or so of automobiles on the road today have manuals. I imagine custom ROM users are a similarly small minority.
Even though the experience is better, even though my own technophobe wife loves her Aria running CM7 nightly, a random buyer--who probably will drive up with an automatic--would be more likely to buy with the stock ROM.
PS: By mentioning a car sale 20 years ago, I've probably identified myself as part of an even smaller minority: old people who run with a custom nightly
Here's what you should do. Root it, install custom recovery, boot loader should be unlocked after using unrevoked. Then flash Liberated FR008, so it will look stock, but they can read up on root and take it from there if they care enough

This is well and good until they decide to factory reset within the ROM for whatever reason. I'm not sure if that is disabled in Liberated FR008 or not, but better safe than sorry IMO.

I can tell you that once I tried to wipe data from the ROM itself (not CWM Recover) and it hosed the phone. I couldn't boot to anything.
This was when I first got my Aria and didn't know much about rooting Android devices.
I would restore Stock and sell it. If the buyer asks about any techie-stuff like "is it rooted?" you could root it, load CWM Recovery, and ask if he'd like a custom ROM on it. You could even ask for a little extra $$ for the effort... Just a thought.
