Anyone know of a tool that can remotely access and control an Android (Vibrant) - like VNC? I broke my screen, but the phone still turns on and works (though can't see more than 2 lines of pixels and it won't respond to touches).
I got a new Vibrant (well, used off of Craigslist) and I want to do a Titanium Backup from the old Vibrant and restore onto the new one. The 'adb push/pull' commands help with the file movement. But, I need a way of launching Titanium Pro and controlling it.
I found a kick-ass tool called Android Screencast (http://code.google.com/p/androidscreencast/), and it does a good job of letting you remotely view the screen. But since its aim is to let you record the screen's video, it doesn't really do a good job of letting you control the Android?
Anyone have any ideas?

Very cool. Thanks. I installed it on my working Vibrant. But it looks like to actually run the server, I need to launch the add and press the 'start' button - which would be a problem on the one with the broken screen.
Any ideas how to get around that?
Changed the name, because it really was designed for Nookie-Froyo. Removed MediaServer and cache features because they are irrelevant with 0.6.8 and add a force status bar feature which only works if you are on ROM based off of 0.6.8 and status bar framework update.
I wrote a graphic app that views/changes the LCD Density, restarts MediaServer, allows you to see the CPU usage of the MediaServer, and clears the Market Cache and Dalvik-cache. Let me know how it works and what OS you are using? Also, let me know if you want me to add any additional functions.
why would you want to restart the mediaserver?

Your nook will start to run sluggish or the youtube app is hanging.
This could be handy. Thanks, brian. I'll try it out soon.

Thanks for this. I flashed the BT cm7 over #15. I understand there's a dpi that works for scaling with Google reader. I could use this instead of modifying build.prop?
edit: and i presume a reboot needed for it to take effect.

It will reboot it for you. If you need a different density then the ones that I have included, just let me know and I will add it.
Edit: Actually, I could get it to work so a reboot is not needed and the change would not be permanent. Would this be a useful feature to add?

I had to use brianf other app to stop the MediaServer because of youtube keep playing audio. This was with a different froyo 2.2 ROM.
I guess this app has more functions and would also work for that purpose.

i think so... the stock setting in cm7 works to show all apps in the market, but borks greader. it'd be nice if i could manually edit (permanent) the density to fix greader since i use that regularly but then quickly change it if i need/want to see my apps in the market.
tried installing this, says problem parsing the package
this supposed to work on 2.1 rom?
I think we are overlapping at least two other uses of the term "media server" (not unusual in the world of technology), making a web search difficult.
Can someone point me to an explanation of the Android use of the term?
Thanks !

There is a service that runs at boot that handles streaming media. This service is called mediaserver. This app restarts the mediaserver binary when it starts using up the CPU.

Installed fine on CM7 SD version. Also shows CPU usage blank here. Nice little utility!
Awesome app!
Any chance you could add 240 dpi?
Just a reminder for anyone having an issue with games / applications not being full screen. I have heard this can cause an issue with older software but have yet to run into an issue. Download spare parts from the market (free) and run the app. Scroll down to the bottom and uncheck compatibility mode. Reboot the phone and your applications should now be full screen.

XiiaLive Lite was the only app that was giving me that issue and your suggestion worked. Thanks!!!
Hmm I downloaded spare parts and the app just Fcs over and over..
I'm trying to hold off on doing the OTAs but I may not have a choice .
the reason why some of the apps dont fill up the screen is because the 3D's screen resolution higher than normal
Yeah I needed it for the sirius app, surprised side since this isn't the first qhd display

I have not taken any of the OTAs so that should not be related. Maybe try menu>settings>applications>manage applications> select spare parts and force stop and clear data. Also check to make sure its installed to the phone not SD card.

I was using magic gem on my hero, looked great, now it is too small on the screen with my 3vo and after installing spare parts and unchecking compatibility mode and rebooting, it is even smaller. No biggy, I am sure they will have one out for the 3vo soon with the right resolution.
worked for me
Settlers HD did not take up the whole screen on my EVO 3D, spare parts and now it looks perfect, thanks
Started it today and its really amazing for the NOOK since it requires a big screen to be playable in my opinion.
Great graphics and really interesting.
I can't find it in the market, where can I get it?
ETA: Ah, its from Gameloft.
How did you get yours to work? Mine says has to download data and then after it downloads it still small screen like for a phone. How big was your data?

Go into the app "spare parts" and un-check compatibility mode.
May need a reboot, then you should be in full screen.
I don't have this game, but most frequently this is the issue when an app plays on a small portion of the screen.

Extra data was around 200mb and the screen is full.
Probably the problem is what Blue6IX says.

Given you have to disable compatibility mode to get full screen...doesn't that implicitly imply that this is _not_ "HD"?

HD means whatever you want it to mean... The original android phone (G1) was 320x480 so modern phones (800x480) are very "HD" in comparison. The NC just happens to be even higher definition (1024x600).

I would think the better question is, when compatibility is turned off and it works in full screen, does it look like it's scaled to fit? Or does it actually look proper high resolution?
When I say "scaled to fit" I mean like how PvZ/Peggle from Amazon are obvious scaled to fit and not full high resolution.
stock 1.2?
Any thoughts on how to make it work on nootered BN stock 1.2/froyo?
Video playing problem on other Gameloft games.
Thanks!

The games that I've had to disable compatibility mode for to get full screen haven't appeared to be scaled. They look like native 1024x600. Wave Blazer comes to mind.
I can't seem to get this to work on my CM7 NC. I purchased it with the $1 india method, and bought it for the droid X, but after it downloads the data, plays the gameloft intro video, shows the disclaimer, it crashes to launcher with no message.
Any ideas? how did you all buy the game? which device did you buy it for?

Hello, I'm thinking of buying a tablet off FocalPrice for $73 and there are two different models I'm thinking of;
B700 7" Android 4.1.1 or GD IPPO M7 7" Android 4.2.2
Now my questions are;
1) If I try the Google store to download apps and the tablet is not compatable, can you please post the link I need to Root it?
2) Do I need to Root it to allow me to download and install apps on my own?
Thank you

1) If the tablet is not compatible with an App, you can download the.apk file from any other source and run it to the point that your device is capable of doing so. For instance, Play Store displayed Whatsapp as incompatible on a Samsung Galaxy Star. I downloaded the .apk from the Whatsapp website and installed it and its working fine.
2) No, you dont need to root to install apps of your own, you just need to enable installing .apk's other than those from play store from the Android Settings. However, there are some apps that will require Root to function, but these apps are usually advanced functions.

You only need to download the apk file, copy to your device (internal or external memory, it doesn't mater) and install it using any file explorer (surely your device will come with a file explorer preinstalled). That's it.
The best deivce you have listed from them is the 2nd one due to the fact that it is running the latest version of android. You don't need root to install most apps and games but you might sometimes come across apps that need root to do specific tasks.
Thanks guys.
I did order the GD IPPO M7 7" Android 4.2.2, got it yesterday and is Google Play compatible
Now maybe I should open a new thread but had a question about 3DVplayer.
My tablet says it supports screen scale adjustment between 4:3 & 16:9 and 2D & 3D but when I play a 3D movie I just get the two screens side by side. Is there a trick in getting 3D to work properly?
Thanks
I have the same exact tablet. All was working fine until today, when the word "DEMO" appeared in bright red in the bottom left hand corner of the screen. Went into recovery mode and did a factory reset, but it is still there. Anyone know how to get rid of it?

I don't know about yours but I also bought a Chinese tablet. The specs stated that Bluetooth N/A and there were no Bluetooth settings in the settings but I downloaded a Bluetooth File Transfer software from Play and was shocked to find out that my tab actually had Bluetooth! I could transfer files but haven't checked a headset. I can turn it on from any Bluetooth switch widget
