Got the EVO 3D yesterday, and the phone being naked is irking my life!!!
Is the Defender too bulky?
I never had a screen protector on my EVO 4G, you think I should have one on the EVO 3D?
The Commuter seems like a smaller, sleeker fit. But I have read of some people saying it isnt tight on the phone from the top or something.
What do you guys recommend?
Or should I not even go with Otterbox?

All of this really depends on what you do during your daily routine, what your job is etc. Personally for me the Defender was a bit bulky and it also made it hard to hit the side keys on the keyboard when texting.
A screen protector is your choice. The Evo 3D DOES NOT have Gorilla Glass like some have stated so just do as you see fit. The commuter comes with a screen protector that is actually half decent.
Yes, the Commuter is a little loose at the top but Otterbox will send you a replacement at no charge( the silicone part). Hopefully enough people contact them so they actually remanufacture the case.
All in all, if you work in a place where your likely to drop your phone or you don't really baby your phone like some get the Defender. If you are always careful with your phone I would say just go with the defender.
I have the defender and I agree, the side buttons are hard to hit while it's in portrait. I looked at the commuter, I had the defender and commuter for my OG EVO and the commuter was my primary case. The problem I have with the commuter for the 3D is the way they did the camera pod. There is no protection for the cameras, I have an issue with that. I don't own the commuter for the 3D and all I've seen is the pictures so it might not be as bad as I think. Just something to think about.

The rubber and hard shell of the Commuter extends out past the camera lens, so there is that bit of protection. It does not cover the lens but if you lay your phone down on a table there is no way you can scratch them.
I agree with the previous posts, it depends on what you need the case for. If you work in a high risk environment for your phone, I'd go with Defender (I'm talking construction, workshops, garage, other manual labor). If you just want some added day to day protection, the Commuter will suit you fine. I have this case and it still keeps the phone slim while protecting every aspect of the case. I have read that this case does not protect as well against drops as the Defender, so if you are clumsy maybe the Defender is a better choice.
As for the looseness of the case, there is a slight gap near the top. Like Winning said, we are all complaining to Otterbox so hopefully they will do a revised model soon once they get enough complaints. Hope this helps.
Check out other threads on the commuter. I bought it and what people are saying is true, there is a noticeable gap at the top, almost like the case was made a little big. You can also see the gap through the headphone jack. I returned it and kept my previous case, the platinum series from BestBuy. I got the blue one. I LOVE this case. It feels good in the hand, and more importantly it fits snug on the phone. I like that it fits snug because there is way less chance of dirt, dust, and debris to make its way in between the case and the phone.
Otterbox Commuter was awesome on my original EVO, however, so I do have experience with Otterbox cases.
Only thing I don't like about defender is the large sides. Makes selecting pain in arse. Other than that it's light and doesn't pull my gym shorts down.
I wanted good protection so I picked up the defender. A thing about that I really like is that it covers up the camera and the lenses. It really isn't that bulky imo and it feels great in the hand.

HA! AWESOME!!!! Nothing is ever as funny as brutal honesty I love it!
Impact.
Impact is the best case Otter makes, and its also the cheapest.
Defender is like carrying 4 cell phones instead of 1.
Commuter is OK, but has no shock absorption or grip.
Impact has shock absorption and grip and looks nice.
I have the defender like others the sides of the screen are a little tough to reach and I wish it was water proof but as far as total phone protection and protection from dust and dirt it's the way to go. I looked at the commuter and the sprint store even let me try it on my phone I did like how slim it was but that was it. But as others have said it's all in personal preference and life style I can't afford to have anything but the best protection because of my job as a firefighter just wish it came waterproof to.

reply from htc to me re: cases
so i emailed htc about the use of cases with their phones, any physical testing before release, etc., specifically with the evo 3d. here's the reply:
Dear Dave,
I'll be glad to help you out with this information. We certainly do test our phones in a number of manners before they are released, including a number of tests that ensure the durability of the phone. As for recommendation about using cases or not, I don't think we have a stance one way or the other. The phones stand up just fine on their own, but extra protection is always a good thing if you don't mind the bulk. We think of it as more of a personal choice that each person can make. From all reports that I've heard from customers and from my experience with the EVO 3D, it just feels right in the hand without a case; just well balanced and designed. I've also never been much of a case person myself as I just like the way phones feel naturally (at least the ones I buy), so it could be a matter of my opinion. If you feel like you might need a case for your usage of the phone, by all means go ahead and get one; when I do use cases I use Otterbox cases and I'm pretty sure they've already got them available for the EVO 3D. Again, just my opinion, and those do add plenty of bulk, but they're good cases. There are plenty of cases out there, so if you think you need one I'm sure you'll be able to find something you like. However, I think you can rest assured that your device will be safe without one as well.

sweet huh? nice honest response. this company could teach lessons on how to get right to it's customers lately
I had the defender... Loved it, got used to the heftiness. BUT since the front edges were so proud and at a steep angle, I couldn't type properly. All the peripheral letters (p l q a # etc) were difficult to press. I had to retype so many times that I returned the case.
Switched to Commuter and seems fine, albeit about half the heft that I liked. Seems to provide decent protection at a low profile. Otterbox is sending me a new Commuter BC I called and said the rubber seems a bit too large. IDK if it is or if I believed it from overanalyzing it from reading forums.
Anyway, I might report back after I chuck this phone against a wall to see how the Commuter really does. Haha
...adjusting to life without the trackball
Ok here's an FYI for all of us. When i was in the Sprint store getting my 3vo and debating what case I wanted and the rep was showing me the commuter I said that after a little while it stretches out and won't fit right ,she told me to bring it back and exchange it , its got a waranty . It might be a pain having to take it back but I don't mind I'm getting a new case. So just a heads up guys.

I got the impact at radio shack for 10 dollars. Does what it needs to. The only thing I don't like about silicone cases is the dust that attracts to them easily.
I have both. Like others have said, the commuter seems to fit a bit loose on top of the screen. Its also weird when I grab it as the rubber moves around too much for my liking.
Defender on the other hand, fits perfect. I agree that the area around the screen is a bit high buy I've gotten used to it and have no problem typing. I need a holster setup so that's another plus for the defender. It's not bulky either in my opinion, considering all that's going into the case.
I also have the Seidio Surface with holster. It's ok but offers little protection.
In my opinion, the defender offers the most value for the price. It's also the best looking case in my opinion. Its a very good case all the way around.
My commuter fits awesome better than the two I had for the OG evo

I'm quite happy with the Commuter as an interim case.
It has good shock protection and good grip and a thin profile.
It's a great case for me during weekdays in the pocket of my dress shirt.
I'll likely go with Seidio later since I like to use a holster on weekends with jeans or shorts. Not sure why Otterbox ignores that market, but they do .........
I'm surprised there are so few accessories out for this phone so far. I am usually able to find a holster and have it onhand before I have the actual phone, but not this time unfortunately. I got the one from Sprint for now that has the case and slide in belt holder but I strongly prefer the spring clips like the ones Seidio makes and bestbuy carries.
Has anybody been able to find a belt clip for the Photon yet aside from the one sprint has? i couldn't even find a generic one available at all. I'm so used to the spring clip holster that i've almost dropped my phone multiple times already
I'm currently using the Otterbox Defender and its a solid case that comes with an adjustable belt clip. Here is a link to the manufacturer's site: http://tinyurl.com/otterboxphoton

Put it in your pocket and not be a goober with a belt clip.
i modded (a peice of velcro) the innocase holster from my evo 4g and it fits great. I think it has to do with the fact the photon is taller than the evo 4g.

I find it inconvenient to remove it from my pocket 200+ times a day when i can just snap it in and out of a holster much quicker. So I'll keep on being a goober thank you. If i didn't use my phone a pocket would work awesome though.

So far I am liking the Sprint holster better than the spring clip one I had with my Epic. I broke a screen on my Epic because of the spring clip getting hit and the phone falling out. I don't see that happening with this case.
I'm also liking the sprint holster combo.... It fits in the hd dock with the holster on too!

I'm replacing that holster combo with an Otterbox Commuter, that stupid Sprint case doesn't protect the top or bottom of the phone. In my experience, the phone always ends up falling on uncovered parts head first, so I'm not going to chance it.
not to kick a dead kitten but does anyone know if this holster combo from sprint will fit in the docks with the shield on? there havent been any avail in local stores to test fit with them...
I have both the desktop dock and the car dock systems. If you have the Sprint case/holster combo, you remove inserts from the docks. If you use a "naked" Photon, keep the inserts in the docks. I really like these docks...they work really really well.
Can't wait for the "lapdock" to hit the market. That's gonna be sweet.
Man this phone is so nice and sleek, I'm not sure if I want to put a case on it or not.
Love this phone compared to my evo 4g. Blows it out of the water. Decent battery life as well.
What are your thoughts on cases?
I had started a seidio active vs otterbox commuter thread but didn't get much love. Maybe people are using other cases I haven't thought of. All I am using is a leather pouch.
ideas, thoughts?
I'm using a Commuter that I modified slightly for the car dock. I always second-guess the expensive Otterbox cases but last week the Photon took a trip to the floor and nearly bounced back into my hand. That settled that one.
One from the mall. Black rubberized and i'm happy. I believe its cellairis or something like that

One thing I don't like so far is it is a little difficult to push power button. I find myself missing it from time to time. I think the otterbox would help with that but I'm not sure if I wanna give up the lightweight and sleek feel of it.
Yeah, sleek and Otterbox don't go together. I prefer caseless but I know it only takes one drop to all but stop my life. I'm finding myself waaaay too reliant on this little device.
Amazon had/has the Commuter for $22, which I think is worth it.
How much bulk does it add?

The commuter is roughly 5/8" thick by 2 3/4" wide by 5 1/4" tall.
The phone is roughly 1/2" by 2 5/8" by 5" respectively.
The case is actually a good hand-grip size.
Using the Seidio Active. So far I am liking it. Fits good and nice balance for me between function and protection.
Thanks for that.

I currently have 2 otterbox cases. 1 defender series and 1 commuter series. Both have their uses. I mainly use the defender for work so I can easily clip my phone into the holster and not leave it laying around in a rush to go do something. It's also amazing for those unfortunate occasions where the phone leaves your hand and makes a 3 or 4 ft dive to the ground. Access to every button and port is also amazing with this case. power/wake button is very easy to press, no problems at all. same with volume rocker and camera buttons. I love the port covers on this case b/c they are extremely durable and long lasting. However, my favoite benefit of the defender case is how easily it can be removed... I know you're thinking "wtf, this guy is an idiot!" Well the reason I say that is b/c i actually sell cellphones for a living and offering otterbox cases is second nature. having installed and removed just about every case they make, many of the other defenders are difficult to remove with the little clips on the internal plastic part of the case which is snug on the phone. The photon defender is almost effortless if you like to trade out ur cases on occassion it is a major benefit
I use the commuter series when not at work b/c I don't typically liek to wear my phone on my hip if I have an available pocket... just my personal preference. Commuter is definetly much less bulk but I also don't like the way that it's designed as far as installing/removing from the phone. It's a bit of a pain. Also, unfortunatly the part of the case that makes it grip in your hand makes it difficult to insert/remove from a normal pocket.
I have decided that I'm going to try out one of the tpu cases from amazon.com for a non work alternative and we'll see how that goes.
Let me know if you wanna sell the commuter.

I like the look of that case but the power button is a little tough to press so if I do get one I think I want one with something that goes over the power button.
I currently have Ghost Armour, It's more of a scratch resistance film, not a protective cover. I do not like anything that adds bulk personally. With that said, in the last 5 years, I have owned a AT&T Tilt, AT&T Fuze, Sprint Evo 4G, and now Photon. I dropped the Fuze once. I treat my phones like a 2 month old baby!. I have special mouse pads at work, living room, bed room, ect. To be honest, I have sold ALL of my phones for more that I paid for them in the first place! David

Looking for a quality leather belt clip/holster for my 4G LTE and not finding much.
This is what I had for my Evo and 3vo
http://shop.htcpedia.com/htc-messenger-side-case-with-belt-clip.html
Looking for the same thing for my Evo LTE.
Found this:
http://www.amazon.com/Horizontal-Le...7I/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1338874338&sr=8-15
and not much else.
Do any of you know of something similar that isn't a cheap $12 POS?
I also found this and it's right up my alley.
http://www.spigen.com/htc-evo-4g-lte-crumena-leather-pouch-series.html
but no belt clip.
I got something like that from walmart. It's in their electronics/cell phone accessory section. It's textile, not leather, but has a similar clip on the back. Uses velcro not magnets to hold the front closed (somewhere I read that magnets can be damaging to the digitizers????). For $10, I can't complain. Phone still fits even with the tpu cover on.
If you got no cover, verizon has a nice leather case that fits also, and is leather. $20
Thanks for the reply - I'm looking for something a bit nicer than textiles. I'd really prefer leather.
Any idea what phone the verizon case is for?
I too have been looking for a good leather belt case, but have found none.

Still looking. I have a local contact who works exclusively in leather. I've asked him to see how much it would be to make a case like the HTC one I already have, with the higher quality of the Spigen one.
I'm still looking. Anyone find one that fits yet?
I apparently used the wrong search terms and didn't see this thread until just now after posting this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697882
They day I got my phone in the mail I went to best buy since I knew sprint didn't have a leather case yet. Found this, it's by rocketfish. Best holster I ever had, and I only use holster's with all my phones. I don't like hard cases. The magnets are strong, it feels great, soft inside, the clip is very strong so it won't come off your belt, and the best part is there is a hole in the bottom you can use a finger to push the phone out with so you can get it out of the holster easier. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Rocketf...Id=5070815&st=rocketfish phone case&cp=1&lp=3
I got the one for the evo 3d for my LTE and it fits little snug but it works only thing I could find. I might need to get the last one a bit expensive but it is what I wanted just like my old blackberry pearl case.

Edit: I decided that I wasn't gonna run this phone naked, so I exchanged the holster for the Platinum Series case and holster. Forgot to check and see if the Platinum case fit in the leather holster. If someone doesn't try it before Sunday, I will, and post results. I really liked the leather holster

Monnie
Definitely headed to Best Buy tomorrow. That's just what I was looking for and not finding. Looks about like the old HTC leather case I had and still used with my 3D.
I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get a custom leather case from easecase. They've been around on ebay for a long time and I've seen reviews going back to the fuze praising their cases.
Did you ever get your easecase case? How is it?

I'll be looking into easecase as well. They made a nice one for my OG EVO to my specs (I wanted it to fit a cased device).
Not cheap, but they do good stuff.
SPE Leather Cases are the best. Period.
I've been using them since the OG Evo.
I'm waiting for them to release the case for the EVO LTE.

I also ordered myself a crocodile case from PDair.
It just came in, and works great.

I'll upload some pictures later.
I know this is a old thread but might as well ressurect it .
I bought this belt case
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0083VHWFE/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
Hopefully it fits my EVO 4G LTE and my SGS3. Its only $5 after shipping.
I just bought the Mobo Carrera slim Horizontal case (for the Galaxy Nexus) and I have to say that I'm very happy with it. It fits the LTEvo nice and snug. The phone doesn't budge at all, especially when shaken vigorously. Also magnet doesn't come off when turned upside and shaken hard. The case is nice and slim to complement the slimness of the LTEvo. The interior is outlined in red leather (sort of complements the phone as well). The belt clip is made of metal (but covered in leather) and swivels but the swivel is rigid and doesn't move with little force with is good to me; stays in the position it is set to. Has the opening at the bottom to allow you to push the phone up to easily remove it.
If you are interested in a horizontal case, then this might be the one for you. Just google Mobo Carrera Horizontal case Galaxy Nexus; amazon has it here Mobo Carrera Horizontal Carrying Case. Other site sell it as well.
I bought 2 more slim cases and I'll write about them here as well when they come in this coming week.
I am looking into a belt case.... Waiting for your review

Well I didn't keep the other two cases. One was too big for the LTEvo that the phone flopped around in the case. That was a killer for me, so I didn't even bother to give it another thought.
The other one is the one pictured below. It was a case for the Galaxy Nexus so it didn't really fit all that well. Don't get me wrong the case was well designed but the dimensions were just short of fitting the LTEvo. The LTEvo was hanging out of the case. If they make one specifically for the LTEvo, it would be worth investing in it.

If you don't mind my asking, what cases were the ones that were too big? Also do you think they'd fit the Evo with a silicone or TPU case on? Thanks!
Ditto to the above I like a gorm fitting holster but I never go out without a case. For work I use the Otterbox commuter with the seido active holster but for regular use, I use a thin TPU case. I have yet to find a holster that is thin and long enough to fit the phone with a TPU case.
Any suggestions?

Do you know the brand? I went to Walmart and they had nothing that fit.

It's made by case logic

I bought my dad a side clip holster from siedioonline and he was ecstatic with it.
Even I loved it, and I really dislike holsters in general.
