I've installed the dark knight custom room and wonder which of the htc system apps I can delete without complications. for example facebook, twitter etc.
It would be nice to have this list. For now, I saw that HTC checkin service can be removed. I'll try it, and give feedback of the results.

Trial and error was my method at first, didn't go very well....... then I looked at a system removal app from the market (can't remember which one) which highlighted the ones that are safe in green and unsafe in red. It helped me a lot.

This link talk about these barebones in CM7, but I'm pretty sure this also applies on the ROM you're using.

Good luck.

Just odined myself back to stock and installed Trigger. I was going through market and can't find several apps I had before loosing all my data. I'm missing Clockr Evolution, wolfram alpha FSU login (school app), and possibly more.... Those were some of my favorite apps, if anyone knows how to fix this, I'd love any ideas.
I had the same problem with stock froyo and so did a lot of people, but all my apps showed up on the market when I flashed bionix-v.

Not sure if this would work, but visit the android market website on your computer. It lists all of the apps you have previously purchased with the option to download them on your phone.

I actually tried the website. It tells me those Apps are vibrant incompatible... I'll try Bionix-v later on.

You need to download and install an older version of market, there is 1 in this post, reply #131 Attachment
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1139259) it is in a zip format which you can flash to your phone with recovery or rom manager
so you mean to say that new market doesn't work in wildfire?? than why they r providing updates automatically.
my wildfire is non rooted buddy so i m not able to flash through recovery..
do u have older market in .apk format so i can install that.
Have you tried going to menu-applications-find the market and uninstall updates?
Edit: note to self, "must read the op"
And if I'm not mistaken (which I might be) market is a system app so I don't think you can just install an apk to downgrade it, and even if you do wouldn't it just update itself again as you would still have the updater in /system/app.
Anyway here's a link to the latest v3.1.5 which should be a bit faster than 3.1.1, it works fine for me anyway.

Nope bro I,ll try 3.1.5 same connection timed out error comes with this also.

If you don't want it to update to the new market, you can use titanium backup to freeze the market updater.apk
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Have you tried clearing the Market app's Cache and Data?
Sent from an unrooted DroidX using XDA app.
the simple way. root. detach market from updates using titanium backup. try some rom with 2.3.5 android. the new market will work
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
The new market does work on the Wildfire, you just need a lot of patience, and I mean alot of patience, as it is very, very slow. For those who don't want to wait for the new market to finally open, or not, try the link in post #2, it does work.
It only lags because stock wildfires are useless, sense is bloated and the specs of the phone aren't very good unless modified, it works perfect on cm7 overclocked.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
actually on my CM7 wildfire, overclocked 710 MHz it still runs like crap, force closing half the time and very laggy...
*edit* i can now not open the market at all: "proces com.android.vending has stopped unexpectedly". I have flashed the old market from post #131 from the thread linked here before, but that changes nothing to my market sadly... Help?
The thing I found is that v3.1.3 and above works fine but below that absolutely sucked even for me, my phone only has the bare minimum running in the background at all times so always has plenty of ram but the first versions of the new style market was useless but the newer ones are working perfectly for me anyway.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
well after a lot of f-ing around, rebooting, clearing memory's suddenly the market I flashed appeared, so now I have the old style market back; thank god. Both 3.1.3 and 3.1.5 crashed for me...
I would find out the latest officially deployed Market version for your phone model (stock), and use that version. Newer versions of the Market may not work on some phones, or with custom ROMs.
As of this writing, v3.1.5 is the latest officially deployed Market version for the DroidX.

I had many problems with market and install Skype or Angry birds, but many reflashes helps
VZW always sticks us with all this bloatware and everyone hates it. I don't even want to see it there. Especially the VZW Navigation, Backup Assistant, and Media Manager.
But, I got started thinking. Besides just looking annoying, how much does their simple presence really matter? What is gained by removing them besides I just don't have to look at them?
These "unused" apps sometimes run in the background and take up precious ram which may in turn slow the phone down. For people who are neat freaks (like me), I like to clean out any useless apps because they are unnecessary and take up room on my phones screens and memory.
I currently have my OG Incredible and will be moving onto the RZ so ram may not be as much of an issue to you guys, however, why have something on your phone which you don't use and could potentially slow your phone down? Not me
Does anyone have a list of what apps are safe to remove?
~angio
There is a list of apps which you can safely freeze using Titanium Backup over in the DEV forums:

We are still eMMC write locked so unless that app only freezes stuff, it won't help. Removing the APK doesn't do anything because it doesn't actually get removed.

the Android Market is yet again receiving another noticeable one, now rendering the version at 3.4.4. So what’s new? While we’re still exploring all the new features of the update, some quick differences stand out. One such improvement is the overall speed of the application. It’s definitely faster than it was before as well as being smooth and crisp during navigation. Another update includes a setting for the auto-adding of widgets to your home screen. And note “widgets” not “app icons’ which appears to be in place of “auto-add shortcuts”. It’s a tad confusing in my opinion but as always, Google often has a method to the madness. According to a member over at Android Police, there is a point to be made:
As ZZ points out, “I think it’s because in ICS, what used to be known as ‘Shortcuts’ are now simply 1×1 widgets. If you notice ‘old’ shortcuts like Direct dial, etc. now live in the Widget folder. This change is simply for consistency moving forward.”
This explanation makes sense, though Google could have been smarter about the naming convention for devices that don’t yet have Ice Cream Sandwich.
Thanks updated now.

Just download the apk, from the link or attachment. and install it.
EDIT: If you are having problems, restart your phone, go to settings> applications>check "Unknown sources" and try to install the apk. This market version does not require root access..
Thanks! updated now.
Any notice anything else new with this update? Besides what was posted earlier?

Updating now! Thanks!
thanks for this
I'm losing my mind trying to track down the process causing repetitive ads in my notification tray. Things for new improved market and other randomness. Has any one had this issue and what is causing it? Only started after I updated to HC. Watched running process to monitor but no suspicious activity. Running stock non root.
Sent from my PG41200 using XDA App
Never heard of that before, but any app can post notifications. My guess is you have a bad ad supported application installed. Carefully check your apps. Uninstall any suspicious apps and check your results. When you find the culprit, give it a terrible review in the market and write the developer a nasty gram.
Is there a way to ID the process utilizing the notification tray?

I don't know of anyway that you can monitor which apps are sending notifications other that using the PC development environment which would be far more trouble to set up than just uninstalling apps one by one.

I remember reading somewhere else there are several apps known for such notification spam. "Music Junk" is one of them, don't remember the rest. I also remember reading that there is an app that lets you control all the permissions (including sending notifications) of most apps. Don't remember the name of that program though.
I would suggest removing most of the extra stuff that you have loaded, and then reinstalling them one by one allowing some time in between to check if you get spammed.
Let us know if you track it down, any info will helps others.
Lol congrats on having airpush infecting your system. try doing a
Code:
pskill | grep airpush
and see if anything comes up. I doubt it, but it's worth a shot. Not sure if busybox has pskill though...hmm, we shall find out!
I hat the same problem with a mp3 download app!Uninstalled it and it was gone.Nothing to do with the HC upgrade i think.

No, you're right. This has nothing to do with Honeycomb. It's an app that the OP installed as several posters have mentioned.
Yes, as Indirect said: this is called airpush.
Try this app: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector
OP, do you have screenshots? Maybe someone has the same app, and gets the same notifications that can help?
I hate random notifications too, especially the Glu games letting me know there are sales on crap I don't want.

The app that you're thinking of is called "Permissions" available in the Android market. I can't remember the app that checks just for the air stuff but I believe the logging test app (developed here at XDA) will find that. If you like it you can buy a license on the Android market to support the developer, full details in the thread just search XDA for it.
