Give that a shot, worked for me (suggested on the moto support forums).
Worked for me as well. Was worried it was because I had upgraded to Swype Beta and had not saved my original files.
Wish I had found this thread 2 hours ago. Could have saved myself a bunch of searching.
Thanks!
When you get to the android guy and exclamation point in the triangle, try holding down both the volume down and the volume up buttons at the same time to get to the blue menu.
I saw a bunch of postings about clicking on the screen and none of that worked, but I saw something about another phone where both volume buttons were pressed and that worked for me.

Hello. Excellent work you are doing here.
I received my Woot Viewsonic gtab yesterday and have been rooting and modding and doing a lot of side loading.
I didn't care all that much for the stock OS just as everyone else has said and I decided to go with TNT lite 4.3.
Everything works great. I didn't even have to patch MarketPlace.
I did notice that after the mod, my hard button HOME key no longer responds. The soft button key HOME works fine. If you are in a app that covers up the soft key, you cannot go straight to home. I almost got stuck in Angry Birds, but just backed out.
If I boot up into ClockWork mod, the hard home key works fine. Did I miss a patch for that issue?
Flash seems to work fine also. Are there any other mods to apply?
Thanks for your help and all of the info you provided in the threads.
Steve.
Known issue mentioned in the ROM's thread. One of the supplements fixes it.
After searching most of the morning I did find a screen calibration tool, but it did not resolve the issue.
I guess I need to spend the afternoon looking for button remapper and/or button savior?
Minor problem, nice day outside, may live with it, unless you can point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
-Steve.
Have you applied the supplements for TnTLite 4.3?

I had a similar problem yesterday with Vegan 5.1.1. Doing a master reset on it solved the issue.
Home button also not working
I am using TNT Lite 4.4.0 and have the same problem. Has anyone found a resolve?
Thanks,
Ed
Found a resolution. Backup your apps first and then do a factory reset. This worked for me. Now working as fast as the day I installed 4.4.0.
Thanks...
Thanks K J Rad.
I downloaded each.
I guess I need to install both?
-Steve.
Supplements are cumulative. You only need to install the latest one.
Thank you. That is good to know and to remember.
I decided to upgrade to TNT Lite 4.4.0.
It fixed my home button and the sleep issue.
Works great now.
Thanks.
-Steve.
hope someone can help...
Rooted, s-off no problem. VirusROM for the last week or so, no problem.
decided i'd look into custom roms. leanKernel "normal" looked great. nothing too crazy, middle of the road, story of my life. researched flash procedure, i understood that it flashed like a ROM, wipe and flash.
ROM Manager, backed up, reboot into recovery. the code scrolled just like a ROM flash, and it rebooted, except it never loaded the lockscreen. all i got was what looked like a loading screen that said "android" in metallic letters with a white flash going across it.
i waited forever, no change. pulled the battery, no change. reset holding power, volume + & -, no change. i gave up, figured i'd have to wait until after work so i could hook up to my PC.
occasionally i'd get notifications (stock, not my custom ones), and i even received a phone call (it didn't know the number even though i've had it for years)! VirusROM dialer came up, answered, talked, hung up, was able to voice search and even surf a bit! now it's stuck on this Dialer screen. when i hit the power button no lock screen, no homescreen, just the VirusROM Dialer.
i am so lost. i thought id done all the research necessary.
help?
so i'm thinking: "how the hell can i reboot into recovery if i can't access my apps?"
inspiration strikes like a ....... bolt......... of some sort
from my new VirusROM Dialer Homescreen, i hit the phonebook icon, then held the search button. i searched for something, i think it was "christ, please let this work, i can't afford a $700 paperweight!"
from the google results page, i did a new search for android market, then found the link to DL ROM Manager, set up google account, opened RM, and flashed VirusROM from there.
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEW!!!!!
ok, so, crisis averted!
any ideas why this happened? i don't like being ignorant >=o/
(BTW, the song that was playing during the flash was Prong - Broken Pieces. fitting, i thought... LOL)
it sounds like your launcher and some other apps got borked.
usually happens when you download a file and it corrupts itself.
usually the best way is to try to get back into CWR and flash your backup. or reflash the .zip incase it just installed badly.
these things happen. you are not alone.

Just so you know for future reference all you need to do to get to recovery is, with the phone off hold power and volume down (at the same time) until you get into the bootloader, then scroll down select "recovery" and hit power.

yeah, I tried that too. Took me to the shiny Android screen.
I guess what happened was I flashed the kernel in the same way that a Rom is flashed. I didn't realize that CWM was used for this.
And I also think i realized last night that ROMs mY Leo be flashed with CWM, that I don't have to go through all the steps with RM every time
Has anybody else had the problem where the launcher stalls/restarts upon pressing the home button from within an app, resulting in the spinning loading wheel? I noticed it on stock 4.0.4 and venom 2.0, but when I went to venom 1.0 (based of of 4.0.3 firmware) the problem completely stopped.

i had this happen a few times. noticed it but didnt really think too much of it.
Just picked one up for my son. *Every* time he hits the home button, he gets the spinning circle "loading" for quite some time (3-7 seconds) before the home screen displays. I installed Launcher Pro on it, and that seems much more responsive. Is this an issue that I should be concerned about? We've only had the phone for a couple of days, and I can still send it back for a replacement and/or exchange for another model.
He's having another issue with apps starting, though. Several apps (mostly games) will "launch loop" it'll start to launch, show its 1st & 2nd splash screens, then go back to the 1st. Lather, rinse, repeat. (Angry Birds, in particular). Forgive me if this is a thread-jack, I'll post it as a new issue if preferred.
Thanks,
FreeMan

Sounds like an excessive amount of undesirable behavior. You could try a factory reset or take take it back, if you can reproduce the weird stuff predictably and show the Verizon people. Mine was doing the home button = loading thing quite a bit, and the factory reset may have helped a little but it didn't go away entirely.
OP- Have you tried flashing the newest Viper ROM? It looks like you'll need to flash the kernel also since you are coming from 1.0. I am on 2.1.1 and I had to flash the kernel also, haven't had the loading issue yet.
Thanks, Spyder..
My search skills have been failing me lately. How do I do a factory reset? I know that on my Dinc OG, volume up while power on got me in, but that doesn't seem to be working here. The phone is completely stock - no root, no bootloader unlock, no nuttin'.
Thanks again!

It's under the storage setting options at the bottom you can do it in the stock recovery also but no need for all that

Thanks, guys. I remembered seeing it as I was running through the menus, but couldn't for the life of me remember where. Maybe with my brain this fuzzy, I shouldn't be messing with it right now...
UPDATE: Thanks guys, the factory reset seems to have worked, at least for now. I'm busy reinstalling all his apps, but there's NO loading pop-up, and Angry Birds has launched just fine. He's had the phone since Friday, and the loading was an issue on occasion at first, and seemed to have gotten worse, but the load-looping seems to have been there from the start, and now seems to be resolved.
Again, much appreciated!!
I have a generic android tablet running Android 4.4.2 with the Atom shell and there are some apps and media files that I keep removing that keep reinstalling themselves, and there's something that keeps spamming ads on my screen. One thing is doing full screen ads and when check the screen showing all apps that are running, the big ad is under something called "Tasks" with the android logo as an icon.
The apps that keep installing themselves are:
Something called "Settings" with a green baseball diamond looking thing with a red exclamation point that is clearly a fake settings thing.
Insane Stars
Ten Drops
Likin Hero
and a video called MP4(800x480).mp4
Also I have tried booting the tablet into safe mode using both methods, (Holding down the power button for a few extra seconds, as well as the method of booting while holding down both volume buttons), and neither work.
I'm a bit new to Android so I don't even know what are good anti-malware/adware apps. I use a combo of Spybot Search & Destroy + Ad-Aware on my windows computers.
Any help would be appreciated.
*bump* Anyone?
This is typical of off brand devices. The only way you would be able to get rid of them from good is by flashing a rom made for the device. It is built into the system. Not alot you can do without even root.

I do have root, and I successfully removed all the pre-installed malware, (and the files causing them to self-reinstall.) I've done full reboots since the removal and they haven't self-reinstalled so all seems to be well.
For reference here's the guide that helped me:
http://www.cmcm.com/blog/en/security/2015-11-09/842.html
The files on my particular tablet did not match the ones mentioned in the guide exactly, but it still pointed me in the right direction. Just try the guide steps first then search your tablet's storage for "cloud" named files/folders that appear similar to what the guide is describing.
There does seem to be one lingering malware/adware thing lingering and it's not something that was there originally. I get something splashing a full screen ad on my screen and when I check all apps running when this happens, the ad app is listed as "Tasks" with the android logo. Does anyone know what this is and/or how to remove it?
While searching the web today on my SM-T860 it suddenly crashed and when it tried to reboot it only got as far as the Samsung logo. The power button alone did not do anything. The tablet restarted by pressing all three buttons together. This has never happened with any other Android device for 'no reason'. Has anyone else experienced this?
Same happened to my last night. I was trying to download a jpeg file that wouldn't open and it crashed after setting it using another way to download it. It was stuck in reboot loop without response from the buttons.
I've not experienced any issues. I'm still running Pie OneUi (v1.5) and the SK1 build.
Might be a good idea to post what firmware you're both running to see if one of the newer versions has introduced a bug - Right now, you're not going to gather any useful information except that it's not just your device that has crashed.
My new one did that right out of the box and had to be returned. It would never get past the Samsung logo, could not be turned off with the power button, and would not go into recovery mode. The exchanged unit worked just fine.
Maybe it's the latest update or some kind of bug though and it only works when using the chrome then downloading at this site a wallpaper. You'll be getting a broken jpeg file and after opening it that's where the problem started.

This happened to me 3 times now, almost sent the tablet back to Samsung. It usually happens with I set up a new Wallpaper using a 3rd party launcher (home replacement). Stayed away from messing with 3rd party launchers and it's been working great for me. Scary.
me too still running Android 9 with OneUI 1.5. No crash ever happened yet.
I'm rooted with Android 9, UI 1.5. I had an almost plain red background on my tab (attached?). I had two crashes in abouut 1 week and have had maybe a total of 6.
I have now gone back to the stock launcher and Samsung default wallpaper just today. I wonder if that will make a difference like someone suggested here?

I'm using Nova and no issues.
Sent from my Samsung SM-T867U using XDA Labs
Bloody hell, it crashed again using stock launcher, not sure if hardware or software issue...
Well, it crashed again and now I have updated to Android 10 with Odin. I did not flash TWRP or root the Tab, bootloader still unlocked and using Nova, lets see what happens......
