after i tried 7 new builds this week , i still decide to go back to use it again , everything almost can work well , includes the portrait self .
for the portrait self function , MCCM V8 and other 2builds also can do ,but not stable , easy to die after portrait self .....
really hope some one can solve this problem -_-
There is no possible way to do that.
Considering that the HD2 does not have a front facing camera.
The camera app may have the option, but the phone doesn't have the hardware.

just try this build yourself first .
also there is a video demo comes from HTC phone show . they use back camera detects your face ,then hold it for 1 or 2 seconds , the camera can take photo automatically .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AsZd4sEC2Y
even you mentioned the front camera , usually the front camera is a low quality one for video chat ,not for photography.
trust me , HTC sense really can do this . just hope some masters can refine the camera problem in sense 3.0 build , cos i found almost all sense 3.0 can not do portrait self ...

When you choose self portrait mode, you turn the back camera to you and as soon it detects your face it focus and automatically takes the picture.. only available in sense roms..

the HD2 does NOT have a front facing camera. look it up in any manual... no mention of it at all on the HD2, only a rear 5MP facing camera... and whats so different from turning the phone to yourself and taking a picture than and using a "portrait mode" feature? same thing my friend... nothing special or different
you do realize that the lady in the youtube video is the one pointing the phone to herself right? she is holding it with the rear 5MP camera facing her and shes taking a pic... where do you see a front camera working? also... i believe the DESIRE HD does have two cameras, front facing and rear facing.... so a desire rom would work on a desire and give you two camera views, you load a desire rom on your HD2 and you still have only one camera....
so no, the HD2 doesnt have a front facing camera, only 1 buddy use it as you want and please but you only got one to use on the HD2..

I really suggest you to get an English Tutor,
For now, i wonder why would you call it "Self Portrait" if you're using the Back cam.
After seeing the video, from what i come to understand is that you want the phone to automatically take photo when there is a smiling face, for that get any of the OFFICIAL STOCK desire HD build with base of 1.84 or 2.50, id suggest the latest 2.0 from sbryan in NAND or an HD build from boxmaxx.

yeah ~ i am not English speaking people ,but i can read other people's posts carefully first .
i call this function "self-portrait" ,because the name of this setting option in camera is "self portrait" , named by HTC ,not me ,please check your phone yourself.
the original desire HD phone can take your photo just by putting your face to the rear camera no need any smiling expression . for the latest builds , i tried MMCCM v8 build ,this function can work , but phone is easy to die after taken several photos . boxmaxx i aslo tried 2 builds , the rom has this option , but dosent work . so now i just re-installed the RAFDROID HD 4.2.

Yes i very well know that, own a DHD myself.
"self portrait" in HD2 forums is related to front camera as there is no front camera and there are many noobs asking for a FFC mod, also that feature of DHD is very new interms of software running on HD2, (on timescale of 2 years)
you could try pushing the camera libs and the apk itself from the rafdroid build to the froyosense build of your choice, its not necessary to be froyosense but just to mantain integrity as a failcheck.
I understand what the OP is talking about. And yes, I've used a few builds for sometime that allowed a self-portrait to be done easily. You'd just select face-detected camera shutter, select how many faces to be detected prior to the automatic shutter to be trigger and you're done. Like the OP said, it works with the rear facing camera (obviously you'd have to turn your phone around). Now, I've been using Sense 3.0 builds and I haven't bothered testing that feature. But as I recall the feature was working in quite a few Desire HD builds. It might just be me, but I found that feature somewhat buggy, as the focus didn't always work neatly. Still, I wouldn't be surprised If you found another non-sense camera app that had the same feature. Cheers.

I hadn't actually played around with the camera settings much until I spotted this thread.
It has some funky features, and the self portrait works.
I'm using [SD/Magldr] MccM HD V4.5 [DESIRE HD Sense] Perfect [kernel tyhung r5] but with the hastrain kernel so the data arrows flash.
So far I've been running it for a few months and battery use is good, and it's extremely stable.

But I doubt it.....

No, there is no front camera!! No No No!
but the other 2 devices has front cameras........and i dont understand y this device is added to it.......
X10 has just one cam! I've tried and frings uses that...so no front camera!
i will get back my x10 tomorrow....will test it and confirm.......
i hope its true and i should be the first one to tell u all
i have got an email from early access team of fring with a test fring apk.....
i dont have the phone with me right now....tomorrow evening i will test it when i get my phone back.....
Hello,
I’m glad to introduce: fring 2.1.0.17 for Android.
Before you install the attached version, please uninstall the current one and wait 2-3 minutes before you connect again.
This version includes the following features:
- Video Calls for more Android devices (Sony Ericsson X10, Dell Streak).
- fring should be running smoother on Froyo.
- Some other improvements.
We'll be glad to get your impressions, comments, suggestions, bug reports etc.
Thanks,
Tom

I saw a video by CoolSmartPhone.com on youtube with a white x19 with a front facing camera. S o n y Ericsson Xperia X10 - The on-screen keyboard and dialing
A lot of salespeople saw the proximity sensor and assumed it was a cam... I think that's where this rumor started
there is no front camera....
i have tried using video chat apps which use front camera..they said no front camera detected.
maybe the latest fring version lets u use main camera.
i dont miss it though..
my bro has iphone4 ..he keeps facetiming with his GF...
Facetime is lame. What's the point if you can't make 3g video calls? If you're at home might as well use your laptop/desktop that has a better screen + better quality
so, this is?

There are X10 knock-offs floating around on Madeinchina.com (from the site just do a search on X10 and you'll see exactly what i'm talking about)
Many of these knock-off's have dual sim card slots, front and rear facing camera's, radio, even built in television.
However I can't confirm if any of them are using the Android OS. Its possible that where ever this confirmation came from originally - that the person was using one of these knock-offs.
Also to note - the camera resolution on these knock-offs are considerably lower than the true X10. Usually about 4mps for the rear camera, and 1.5mps for the front facing.
Screen size is usually a bit smaller. And I would imagine the resolution of the screen wouldn't be HD.
I have though made my decision. The next cellphone I buy will probably be an android based knock-off. Why? If I'm not going to get support from the manufacture anyways what the heck is the point in paying the high price. When I say support I mean continued updates and upgrades. All the work is now being done by the public - not the manufacture. I'd rather save the money by not buying the name brand, and donating to the developers who make this stuff work.

My hobby is photography and I like doing panorama photos by stitching 5+ normal photos to one panorama. Without manual shutter speed or exposure lock on the camera, I can't do that...
My question is - Is there a way for this on Samsung Galaxy S2?

Sorry if I'm being a "****", but I agree with him. Phones are not for this. If your hobby is really photography, you don't do it with a phone, unless you're a hipster, or you can't afford a good camera. Yes, when you need a quick pic, it's okay, but that's not the real thing :/
Also, ICS should have nice panorama feature, let's just wait for it.
Hello again
I have DSLR, but I'm not that much into photography to bring it everywhere with me...
Here is some samples with my old phones (first from Sony Ericsson K770 3,2MP, others from Samsung Omnia 5MP)
I try the panorama on Galaxy S2 (also other panorama programs), but they DON'T have AE lock, and stitching its not good (for example, try do panorama in dark room with one bright window...)
So, is there hope for some software developing on Android, maybe for ICS?
Hello again, just want to say that I found some kind of solution, if someone other than me is interested
Fast Burst Camera app (in beta for now) have some AE lock and I can take photos for panorama, thats GREAT, but the app can take max resolution of 800x600 ...
Also if there is other program... PLEASE let me know about it, I'm interested in paying for it
no need to pay, use fireworks mode,
stock cam app extends shutter speed to 1 second.

I've found the perfect camera APP and its called Camera FV-5 !

V1.1 supports AE-L (AutoExposure-Lock), but only for ICS devices. However, it's not working on custom ROM's, that's what the developer of the program say'd to me, when I ask him "why does AE-L not working with me". I'm ont Lite'ning V2.6 ROM (ICS 4.0.3 based).
The developer say'd that this future works only ot original ICS releases (for now), it has to do something with the camera driver/apk (I don't understand that much)
Could I flash from somewhere original ICS base on this ROM, the only thing I want is to work AE-L on my phone

good/expensive equipment might give you clearer pictures with higher pixels but it is also not wrong for anyone (including photographers) to use their smart phones for photography, as the matter of fact capturing photos at the right moment is the most important factor of all.
many of my photographer friends enjoy the photo taking capability with today's smart phones for several reasons: 1. it's very handy because people carry their phone on them all the time. 2. Easy-Quick to use 3.picture quality is good enough in most cases.
why there is no slow shutter program for andriod ... thats so strage.. it exists for iphone and works great ..
is it that hard !!!!!!
or .. some one cant port a program from .ipa to .apk ??!!!
You can't do a port.
If you want it... just do it, or ask for it to the developer community
It seems to be impossible for moment.

Is this thread still alive? I was found Motion Camera app on market https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fingersoft.motioncamera but the result is not good as on iOS https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/slow-shutter-cam/id357404131?mt=8 (if this what anybody here expected for long exposure technique).
I've check camera specification between my phone (SGS3) my friend iPhone 3G. Both have almost same aperture, about 2.6/2.8 (I forgot). The shutter speed, ISO, and Exposure can be customized (both device). So there no reason (I guess) for the app cannot be applied on Android. I've contact the developer and we'll wait for the news.

Hey all,
I have been away for a while using a deodexed stock latest update rom for a while just fine. I continue to use Sense because of the camera app. When I was here last, the camera kind of sucked on custom roms, so I felt like to keep the camera to its best I needed to stay with the stock ROM.
What do you guys think of this? Is it ok to switch to a Jellybean 4.1 ROM or 4.2 when that inevitably gets ported too? Does the camera still record 1080p, and does the camera use the image co-processor for instant burst mode?
The camera is one of the main focus points on this phone for me, and the Sense ROM camera experience has been really good.
The last time I heard was that people say the sense camera is being ported through cm10 though I have yet to see any evidence of it working.
HTC didn't release the driver for the image chip which is responsible for post processing, auto focus, flash level, and noise reduction, white balance, etc...
I heard that porting it is virtually impossible because those stuff are propriety of htc.
The camera on port works, though using the camera would drain your battery life as everything is done on soc instead of the dedicated chip. You would also lose the continuous auto focus and all the pre programmed optimization which would result in worse image especially in low light.

Using CM10 + the 4.2 Camera = :victory:

So true. The 4.2 camera is really nice. The images are quality and the camera itself is functional. There's a zip file out there that you can flash. It's named 4.2Camera_EVO.zip.

Only issue that I found on the CM 10 4.2 camera is when using the video camcorder I cannot get the FPS past 21. Normal operation for video is 29. Shooting video at 21FPS makes things jumpy..
For taking pictures the 4.2 is passable. VIdeo not so much..
That is why I am also stuck in the Sense World ...

Edit: First Link for the win
Go with arnova's port. Seems to work best. Use the 6.1 version though as the 6.2 seems to be missing the option to switch from standard to wide cam (no tele option so far afaik). You will want to enable buffer fix and night sight 8.1 alternate mode to get rid of laggy viewfinder though. Ignore the load config thing as it doesn't work or just causes the app to fc.
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-arnova8G2/#apk1023
edit: 6.1 version does switch to tele lens. use the long press switch option. Switch to tele by long pressing the gallery / thumb circle instead of the cam switch (which long press switches to wide). the cam switch changes colors - blue : standard, purple : wide, red : tele
Hello,
i'm very interested to buy the LG V40, but i need that at least one version of Gcam works well.
So, the Arnova's 6.1 works well on both cameras ( rear and front ) with HDR+ enabled ?
No lags or other problems ?
Gcam is better then stock Camera ?
Thanks to all !!

Yes, there are some quirks here n there but it generally works as it should. It does lag but the fixes in the app will sort those out. Alternatively you can use the cstark version. Also works but I find the arnova build switches lenses quicker.
Is it better? If you need to print them pix in humongous sizes, then yes. gCam has better detail retention than stock. If it's just for keeps and regular human sized prints, the LG one does the job fine. It's way faster and more responsive than a ported app. Only plus I can give the gCam over the LG one is NightSight. It's just simply better but also slower.

Thank you !
I've not found a Gcam Developer LG V40 owner, maybe a problem about solving lags, freezes and many other app problems .......
My wife use Gcam port on a Nokia 7 Plus ( Snapdragon 660 ), but is fast and stable.
I'd like to have a fast Gcam also on LG V40, i need a phone with wide angle camera and Microsd, and LG V40 seems perfect for me..... LG V30 has a good Gcam porting, but is older and with smallest camera sensors ...
What do you think about battery ? Is good enough to cover one day ?

I've using gCam ports for a while on multiple phones and now with the V40, I finally get the feeling that I don't need gCam that much anymore. With good light, the LG stock cam produces better pictures than a gCam port. They're better exposed and have more pleasing colors. Detail retention isn't a problem since I don't need to see every single Only reason it's still installed is for NighSight. Simply because the black magic google uses for it can't be beat.
Battery life isn't as good as the V30 but decent. Survives an entire day but with very little to spare at the end.

Ignore the load config thing as it doesn't work or just causes the app to fc.

edit: 6.1 version does switch to tele lens. use the long press switch option. Switch to tele by long pressing the gallery / thumb circle instead of the cam switch (which long press switches to wide). the cam switch changes colors - blue : standard, purple : wide, red : tele

Hi Neocyke thanks for the reply
I'm not sure exactly which APK your referring to on the list (I'm assuming it's a 2019 one)
I'm in Peru ATM but live in Sydney, so I'm going to post lots of photo comparisons on here
Some in Iquitos and Cusco in Peru and also in Sydney
I'm going to compare 4 apps - the lgv30 with cstark pixel 2 gcam, LGV40 stock, and two other gcam mods for the LGV40
Again thanks for your help
Hi again Neocyke
I found another APK last month and it seems to be a really good one
LGN_MGC_6.1.021_Potter_v4F-san1ty-final.apk
Your a lot more knowledgeable than me on these things it would be good if you could look into it and try it out and give me your feedback back, I'd really appreciate that

Find the telegram channel by searching "LG v40 thinq" . There is an apk and config messaged there which works best for me (with stable nightshot etc.)
Has anybody tried installing 7.0.009 ports by Urnyx05 or Parrot043?

7.1.009, 7.2.011, and 7.2.014 are Android 10 only. 7.0.009 can be used both on Pie and Android 10.
I've been trying out different builds, running Havoc 3.0. I haven't had any luck on any 7.0-7.2 build at all. All crash on start.
6.1.021 version worked for me correctly . google playground and avengers stickers also working

Thank you for this info! This and learning to install the config file makes this an awesome port. EDIT: Is there a similar trick to choosing which front facing camera to use? I tried the same and it just changes it between front and back. Thanks!
