So I was playing around with my phone and discovered a new feature, well new atleast to me. You can rearrange the bottom tabs in the apps with sense mods like music, clock and people etc. Just press and hold one of the tab icons and you will get into the rearranging mode.
For example, I hate how the default view when u get into the music app is the artists, I press and hold any icon like the artists icon in the bottom bar and now I can move the songs list to the beginning and have it as default.
Edit: Thank me if u like my new discovery!
New discovery - on the home screen, in order to trigger the preview mode where all 7 screens show up, you can press home button again or pinch the screen.... you can also just tap the home screen with two fingers and it gets triggered
That's pretty neat thanks!
That's cool but can you make it so clicking on the clock doesn't go to world clock? That's lame.

It opens into the same tab that u exited the app from. I have alarms as my first tab and if i leave the app while its on the alarms tab, clicking on the clock app icon from the drawer and the widget gets me to the alarms tab.
Thanks man...i hated it too when it always jumped to Artists...now i got my playlist on first!!

I didnt think most people knew about this... after 3 years of using 5 different android phones, 3 of them with sense, its still exciting to find new tricks like this. I can bet you I know my phone in and out way better than u do!
I have no idea why the xda forums have become like this lately but snarky comments from people like you is a great example of how things have turned to **** around here and this is why many helpful people and devs are leaving.
Wow, that is pretty neat.
It's this exact thing I'm talking about that will keep me far away from AOSP. HTC Sense has small things about it that make the user experience so far above other UIs.
Well I didn't know this either thanks for telling us or me this.

Works in gallery too and other Sense apps. Also, holding an icon and dragging it to the middle of the screen / out of bar hides it from view.

In an attempt at obfuscation I thought I'd start a thread in hopes of getting some collaboration for improving my favorite Android ROM-- CM6. Sure I could stick with AOSP for better universal support but who cares? CM6 offers what I consider the best experience and the available code far surpasses what we would need to reinvent on a stock base.
Lack of time and knowledge has me realizing it's best to try to bring the community together so we can work on adding features in a hopefully less 'throm' way. Seeing advancements devs can do like MIUI's lockscreen and interesting home screen improvements, features we enjoy from the CM6 nightlies, etc. is the motivation.
I'll post my work and ideas and I'm hoping people do the same.
List of ideas and projects I'd like to get going:
Notification bar scrollable settings
MIUI and the new Sense inspired idea but taken to a new level with custom activity support similar to Bettercut and ADW offer.

Universal Firefox-style Google search from long-pressing text
Long press text in a web page, email, text box and have a context menu to search the phrase on Google similar to Firefox. It's a Google OS, let's add it
Smooth screen rotation transitition
Intercept rotation and instead shift the screen rotation without redrawing to improve speed on low end devices and prevent onResume() potentially wiping current saved state in poorly coded apps
This is a think tank and I hope to spin it into a development thread. I'm open to ideas like a Home button in browser, etc. Let's make this easy, open source and available for integration in ROMs to make things better for everyone.

The one thing I've always wanted fixed in Android (since 1.0) is Artist sorting in the music player. Currently the scanner incorrectly uses the Artist tags for combination albums and splits them all up (should use Album Artist; check how iTunes/WMP sorts this stuff); its terribly annoying and has needed to be fixed for ages.

My 2 Cents
Sense like copy /paste In browser
Getting that search drop down on xda to not dissapear when I try to type in eing
Getting the gmail app to auto call phone numbers when you touch it, sense does this
When searching In google, the suggestions come up, I would like to be able to scroll to one of the suggestions, and this auto fills the search box for you, like it does in a desktop browser
Cm has thought of almost everything I must say though!
Here's an idea i'd like to see. I dunno if it should be implemented in Android in general or CM.
If you pull down the notification bar, swiping left or right to get another page with some of your widgets... OR switch between open applications using that.

Alright, so I did this mock-up to explain:
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This is my idea of a pretty neat launcher. Let me explain.
It's a giant launcher where everything is made up of "panels" which is essentially what a widget would be normally, except instead of small icons and widgets making up a grid, you would rather make up this entire tower of "panels" you can scroll through like so:
Once you reach the bottom (like so), you have the option of adding or entering edit mode in which you can change the placement of panels, configure panels, or add more. Also notice the stationary panels at the top and bottom. I figure the top would could be configurable to look however you like or replaced with another replacement panel made for staying at the top at all times. (i.e. you can't replace it with a Last.FM panel, you would have to go about finding a panel that is absolutely meant to be at the top.)
I figure this could also be a pretty accessible thing for everyone in terms of making new panels. Someone would release the base panel code, and then people can configure it to do some pretty neat things, I figure.
I dunno, this just seemed kind of cool in my opinion. I can think of all sorts of panels and stuff like that too - a Favorites/Folder panel, gallery panel, music panel... etc.
Also, I threw this mock-up together pretty fast. I figure the Facebook and Twitter panels would have more to it, heh.
So whatcha think?
EDIT: On a side note, what I was imagining isn't really widget status where you can interact with it so much - you click on it or the link or whatever corresponds with whatever (i.e. you click on a tweet) and it brings you to where you need in order to comment on it or like it through FB and what not.
Hey man, first off, u may want to request this moved to the Apps section. I see the dev side of it but ppl around here get very picky about what should go where. Second, cool idea, im not much one for these kinds of home screens but some ppl like them and the more kinds out there the better.
You may want to check out slide screen from larva labs. sounds very similar.
I believe this is what WP7 is trying to achieve but failing short of it....
Your concept is wonderful (not exactly original because of WP7), but I still like it. To do this you will need some mad skillz with Java and change up the framework and re-organize the notifications/alerts/alarm aspects of the it.
Also the facebook/twitter integration will need to know how to communicate with each respective API.
yeah, this is going in themes & apps.
In the other thread I mentioned that uh, I'm not a developer for anything, let alone Android. I just threw this mock-up out there just as an idea.

The only problem I see is that a lot of widgets would need to be reinvented to fit the new panel system. I don't want to do what the W7 Launcher did and just place the widget in the middle of a box 'cause that... That doesn't look good.
Here's some ideas for panels I pulled out of my brain:

Unless maybe there was a way to remove the background of the widget or force fonts onto widgets, but then again I know nothing regarding the difficulty of this so... Yeah.
But then again, there could be like master panels that have the ability to be set to whatever music program you want from there.
That would minimize the amount of panels that needs to be made. A friends panel = Twitter, Facebook, etc. A music panel (Like Phantom Music Widget) = a lot of music apps. And then maybe a widget panel where if you configure it you can have it attempt to remove the background of the widget so it looks somewhat right on the panel. I dunno.
I dunno man but you have everyone dying to have this made haha

Hey guys I forgot who had requested a widget to show/hide the system bar In Honey Comb, but here it is! I had a couple people test it before I released it to the market. This is to be used by people who use the Hardware Buttons in HoneyComb. Enjoy
March 18, 2012
Version 3.0 has been released! It includes a smaller widget (1×1) that was requested by users as well as the ability to restore the status bar when the screen turns off. The latter feature allows the widget to be used by more devices that do not have hardware keys.
Along with version 3.0 I have also released a donate version. This version is exactly the same as the free version but costs one dollar for those who feel generous!
You can download it on the android market place by clicking Here for free and Here for donate
Feb 13, 2012
Version 2.0 brings along a new layout as well as more reliable code!

And just incase someone trys this without hardware buttons and opens an app while the bar is hidden the command you can run to get your bar back is:
Code:
am startservice -n com.android.systemui/.SystemUIService
If you feel like donating all money will be put towards my school loans

This is a lot better than honeybar which gets in the way. Thanks!
Unfortunately, htc scribe apps still don't like the removed bar. Good for watching video and reading pdfs though.
EDIT: I have a small request. Can you please make the buttons or hitboxes a little bigger? Sometimes it takes a frustratingly large amount of touches to register a show or hide.

Actually, in that line, I would simply suggest a one-cell toggle (on or off). It was a somewhat curious decision to make two buttons instead of an on/off toggle.

Hey everyone! Hope you guys are enjoying your prime.
I've been very interested in HUBS for the android tablets and I've searched many places and some youtube tutorials but none of them seem to work 100%. I'm hoping someone can post a step by step tutorial on transformer prime ICS on how to make hubs for everyone who wants hubs on their prime.
Thanks!
P.S. I've looked around on the forums and I've found a couple hubs thread but none helped.
I'm not really sure what you're talking about as the threads I've looked at for hubs and the YouTube videos I've seen have been very informative. I set up a hubs layout the other week that I love. A few more tweaks and I'll be posting on the homescreens thread.

Hey how did you get those app folders to pop up in the middle of the screen like that when you clicked those side icons?
One way to do it is to use folder organizer or app organizer, then use an invisible icon which you would place behind the widget. So when you touch the widget, you're really touching the icon underneath which brings up the apps. Hope that helps. Still trying to get mine all set up, very time consuming.

For my personal use, I set it up with two things in mind.
It has to be functional. I'm an organization freak and so the different hubs would have to legitimately be useful and not just for design. For example, when I'm doing schoolwork The only things I see on my screen are applications I let myself use (and I further enforce this by combining Pomordroido and Tasker to kill any apps not seen on that screen).
Work well with two handed use. While it's kind of a moot point a majority of the time because my tablet is in the dock, when I do use it undocked I want to be able to access everything quickly. You'll notice that all of my buttons are on the left and right hand side of the screens, and all are clickable with either thumb, never having to lift my hand.
Apps I use to achieve this are ADW EX Launcher, Minimalistic Text, and Pure Calendar Widget.
I'll post a video of it sometime later; it's pretty slick. Funnily enough, I was already using the exact same transitions the guy in the video posted above used, so you already know how that looks.

So I know that there is a thread for homescreens already, but I wanted to make one that was for beautiful designs only. Just putting up a screenshot is alright, but giving it a body and background makes it even better. The idea is to get unique looking designs up to inspire others to design beautiful homescreens. In otherwords, this isn't for screenshots like this:
If you want a Psd template to get started, you can find one here - Htc Amaze Psd
Alright, here's one to start out:
Things Used:
* Wallpaper
* Icons
* Apex Launcher (10 x 5)
Really Simple and clean but I LOVE IT!
I dig your style. Thanks for your contribution to everything that you have done for the AMAZE.
Here's my current layout:
Another AMAZEing layout. All done with the Apex Launcher?
I assume also done with your Rom?
Gives me a lot of Inspiration/Ideas on what to do with my phone.

Thanks! Its Apex Launcher Pro to get the widget overlapping as well as the red notifications. The black and blue edges are actually UCCW Clock widgets. Its a great app to make stylish homescreens. I've found it a little taxing on the battery and system speed though to have that many widgets running.
O and yes, it is Fourth Bar Jellybean. I've tried Cm9 but I found it to unstable to use as a daily driver. Plus Fourth Bar works almost flawlessly as Aosp aside from the Signal bars missing.
Looks like someone's in engineering.
Awesome home screens btw!

No... Not really. I dislike math with a passion! Most likely computer science with a focus on UX design.

Thank you for starting this thread CRAIGTUT. I remember one like this in the G2 forum that grew to a couple hundred pages. Great ideas from some creative minds. I like what you did with yours. It gave me one or two ideas with mine. I'll get a couple screen shots up soon. :good:
dude you make the amaze beautiful.
That UCCW is a little hard for me to configure haha. I cant manage to make anything look right. :silly:

Visit the UCCW thread on XDA - You will be pleasantly surprised at all the work that has been shared there, it will give you more than enough time to figure UCCW out to make your own creations.
It's one of the top five threads on XDA as far as I am concerned
-Desktop Visualizer
-Tron icon pack and Icy cm9 icons for ADW EX
- Beautiful Widgets
Not too "unique" i guess because I still use the normal android grid style setup but I like ics blue and everything (almost) matches
Feedback welcome...

Ironically enough, just today I decided to take the time to redo my homescreen, and looking at others in the post your homescreen thread was just pages and pages of the same stuff. Not to offend anyone but the majority of what is there is just too busy and cheap looking, I wanted something different, so I finally ended with this.
