[Q] changes from Froyo to GB ? - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

hi
i have one question about updating from froyo to Gb . on froyo there is a great feature we can move/install our apps SD . on Gb what changes are made in ace i want to know

there are some apps which needs to be installed in the phone like widgets, etc. you should try upgrading. and just revert back to froyo if you dont like it.
i am hesitant myself in the beginning but after upgrading, i am much satisfied.

One of the things updated in GB is that you can now connect to an Ad-hoc wifi connection from say, a laptop or pc. Very useful if you want to control your download data from your carrier.
Another update is the effecient battery consumption in GB. Mine could last an additional half day with mild use.

froyo to GB
Hi everyone, I'm following this thread re upgrading from Froyo to Gingerbread. There don't seem to be any significant changes or improvements? I don't need the wifi sync & my battery life in Froyo is EXCELLENT, so are there any other interesting things that will actually make it worthwhile upgrading?? Thanks, Graham. London

ooo ok & what about battery life on GB it good & it is better than Froyo ? & what about Performance on Gb

besides the battery and the ability to connect to an ad-hoc connection, the video capture got bumped to 640x480 from 320x240..

Try using 2.3.3 KPN, the latest official firmware release by Samsung. (july 2011)
Lots of bug fixes, faster modem (means better connection) and yes... improving the battery life from Froyo.
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) supports the following features in addition to existing 2.2 features:
New user interface design with new themes (Black themes save power)
Extra Large Screen Size supported
SIP Communication Supported (SIP Video and Audio Calling, In an operator point of view, this is feature will decrease their voice calling revenue where as user can call each other for lower rates or even free if they have good data connection)
Supports for NFC (High Frequency High Speech Data Transfer in short range)
Support for WebM/VP8 video playback, and AAC audio encoding
New audio effects such as reverb, equalization, headphone virtualization, and bass boost
Improved Copy and Paste functionality
Redesigned Multi Touch Software Keyboard
Audio, graphical, and input enhancements for game developers
New sensors support (i.e gyroscope)
Download manager for long running HTTP downloads
Enhanced support for native code
Improved power management and application control
Support for multiple cameras
Now, for the difference between, 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 Gingerbread, it's only the Video Call feature for Gtalk. That's why I'm sticking with 2.3.3 KPN since it's an official Samsung release already.

[BUILD][DISCONTINUED][FroyoStone Sense - V3.2][Kernel: linux_on_wince_htc 2.6.32.15]

Hi everyone, I'd like to let everyone know that I will no longer be updating my builds.
This is mainly due to the lack of time and that I have a lot of work for university to do.
I'd like to thank everyone who donated to me, I have sent an email to each and every one of you
I'd like to thank everyone who supported me throughout the last few months and I'd like to thank everyone at #htc-linux & #htc-linux-chat for their help and for being awsome!
Once again, many thanks!
WELCOME! This is the FroyoStone series!
WARNING:
If you post in this thread knowing fine well that this is a HTC Sense build and you complain about sense anyway, then I will ignore your post completely.
If you want to update the kernel, I would recommend kernel builds by hastarin which has tweaks. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787588
If you have music stuttering, use this fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=811248
If you have issues with data/PPP, look here for support: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794309
The problem is due to the combination of the EVO kernel and stagefright.
Readme:
HTC Desire Sense build (FroyoSense V3.2) (Based on stock, no modification apart from camera app and superusers app) for HTC HD2 by darkstone:
My goal is to make a build that is close to stock as possible, but also has everything working. I'm getting there
Everything should be working, should be fast. Very fast.
Changelog for V3.2:
Fixed PPP disconnects (updated lib_htcril_wrapper)
Added more APN's (T-Mobile users, I'm looking at you for cluttering up my thread )
Updated kernel to latest EVO commit as of 17-Oct-2010 00:44 from here: http://oe.netripper.com/files/htcleo_autobuild_evo_tree/
Re-enabled Stagefright for videos.
Some performance tweaks.
Camera flash now work correctly, this is fixed in the kernel.
If you are already using FroyoStone v3.1, you can upgrade to v3.2 easily, all you need to do is overwrite the system.ext2 and the zImage files on your SD card with the ones in this update. DO NOT REPLACE THE DATA.IMG IF YOU ARE AN EXISTING USER AND WANT TO KEEP YOUR FILES.
Included 1GB data.img by default, saves time waiting for your phone to create a 1GB data.img. Delete the included one if you want, the phone will create a new one.
If this is your first time running FroyoStone, you will need to reboot after completing setup for the first time. Users upgrading to v3.2 do not need to do this.
Notes:
A popup may show after taking a picture with the camera, this is normal. If you want to avoid seeing this, change the camera settings for Review Duration from 5seconds to off.
Cam is limited to 3mpx, partly due to the kernel and also the camera apk. I need to speak to AdamG and see how he fixed this when he ported Sense camera to Nexus One. IIRC he modified the HTCCamera.apk file.
720p video recording does not work, seems like H264 encoding is fudged. H263 seems fine, record fine at 800x480 resolution.
Wifi hotspot app is working fine
Make sure to reboot after first boot, apps needing root access won't work. Phone calls will have no audio. Make sure you reboot!
// Creates a 1GB data.img if there is no data.img present. I have included a clean 1GB data.img for a quick first boot.
// Don't worry about FB console not showing, that's normal
// Copy the Android folder and the media folder to the root of your SD card so that you have two folders on your SD card, run CLRCAD.EXE and haret.exe on your HD2
Kernel Tree: http://www.gitorious.com/linux-on-wince-htc/linux_on_wince_htc
Just want to point out that the HTC Desire is closest in terms of hardware to our HD2, that's why I prefer cooking a Desire build and that's why I will always choose Desire based builds over EVO and Desire HD builds.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Changelog for V3.1:
Fixes youtube green line/video quality issue
Ringtones/alarm sounds included by default, no need to download media.zip
Theme removed, using stock rom with no customizations
GScript removed, no need for it now, no touchscreen freeze
Switched to EVO kernel tree
Dropped FroyoStone Clean, there is no need for it anymore. Just use LauncherPro if you want stock-like home screen
Speed increase
Removed powersave on screen off feature
PPP only, no RMNET for data
Changelog for V2:
- Theme changed, more transparency
- Now creates 1 GB data.img
- PPP is now being used.
- Fixed APN/Sim card changed error.
- Using interactive cpu governor
- Capped CPU scale between 768mhz at the maximum and 245mhz and the minimum by default, use SETCPU to uncap this speed if you wish to benchmark.
- Powersave governor @ 245mhz used by default when screen is turned off.
- Bluetooth Headset now fully supported in calls.
- GPU performance tweaked, games and HTC Sense now run at a higher FPS. Check in NeoCore for difference in FPS between builds.
- Added a Stop G-Sensor and Start G-Sensor to GScriptLite program. Stop G-Sensor to avoid touchscreen freeze when not using the G-Sensor. Start G-Sensor when it is needed.

Nice!
Problems:
- seems that graphics driver is in software mode
- headphones not works... plugin not detected, but unplug is ok - music stops and etc, as it should be in normal.
- CM settings? where are they ? no menu item in settings menu. no icon in applications...
- Random hangs of touch-driver... only device restart helps.
Believe most of problems comes from StreakDroid 2.0, but overall thats great! Thanks!
Give the guy a break, at least it's one more person trying to develop for the Streak 5 !
Hey dude, give the guy a break... he did say he has a lot of work ahead of him. What have your released for the Streak lately?
Man,
What happent with the version you were developing couple days ago? The one based on steve's 1.9? I was asking for another mirror, I was pretty happy with ur first version, was looking to download the second one. Did you retired that project for good? I cannot find that thread in here.
Maybe you can point me to download your rom, second version.
Thanks in advance

there is no single ROM thats being written from 'scratch', is there?

Irrelevant
no mattter how much noobies put their glowing references on this, this is not CM7.
it is a couple of very minor changes to sd 2.0.. adding some apks to system/app.
along the same lines as changing a bit of framework in a kitchen, in fact I'd say it took less effort than that.
Also RootExplorer is a paid app, including warez into Roms is not accepted

Yes this is not CM but I was tryin to get some extra features on already awsome streakdroid like DSP manager importing libs into system from CM got DSPManager working on streakdroid with clearly differentiable soundfx and I was able to check that through by bluetooth stereo headset & phone speaker only because wired stereo headset still not produce any sound(updated libs version I hav not yet uploaded because not many people will find it useful untill sound output issue is fixed) in fact I need some help from experienced developers like you on the sound output issue through regular stereo headset , I am also looking for browser from CM7 & root explorer will be removed from next version ,Thanks if you can help out....

You don't have a clue. Have you even tried the kitchen on the streak? There is zero customization that works with the streak. Once the kitchen is used it has to be dissected, graphics altered, odexs fixed for text color and other tweaks. You don't have a clue.
FARDS said it best.
I can take 5 minutes and take bits and pieces of cm7 apks, some from galaxy s 2 and some htc files and simply drag and drop them into djsteves roms... or I could even do it to a stock rom... does that make it a new rom?
What he accomplished here could easily be done by making a flashable clockworkmod zip.
I would love to see more cooks for the streak but would love to see a real effort.
If modifying frameworks and odex files are so easy to do with the kitchen, why is there only three people including myself that have released it? Jhotman...baldylocks....

[Q] The new Opera Mini Next browser on Android

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.mini.next.android
This new beta seems to have
1. Much lower memory footprint
2. Is much faster
3. Beautiful transitions!
3. Seems to work like a GPU accelerated app on Gingerbread!
which brings me to the question, is there any way a particular app can use GPU ui in Gingerbread. Not an NDK app, just a normal Dalvik-VM app.
Tested on GT-P1000
I was a fan of Dofin HD, then switched to Opera, a favorite, then switched back to the Fin HD since it seems to be lighter and faster.
I might give Opera another try and see how good it is.
But I definitely using stock WebBrowser when ICS released

Give Opera Mini Next a try. It does have hardware acceleration says their press release though I don't understand how, on gingerbread.
Are there any hacks for it yet, like free 2g/3g internet?
does it have flash support this time? I loved it, but because of not supporting flash kinda bad...but i loved turbo mode =) saved like 60% internet

You can get Opera Mobile which has the same UI as Opera Mini only the download is larger since it can download and render pages locally, and also includes flash compatibility. Opera Mobile also allows you to toggle turbo mode, I have mine set to be on turbo when on 3G and use the local presto engine when on wifi.

Another ICS rom for us to play around
Base of Kibuuka AOSP ICS 4.0.4_r2.1 and port from 20120511-CM-9.0.0.RC0-supersonic-UNOFFICIAL by jmztaylor.
Thanks to :
CM Team

Jmztaylor (for bring CM9 nightly to Evo4G)
nop (powerfull kernel)

hPA

Froilson
all forum members for sharing and caring
Not work :
Camera
Data (for some user including me)
Wifi Tethering
Theme manager (working fine on my evo but will cause bootloop on ds5)
All the bugs from the base rom
This rom have ugly gradient colour in background because I use libmedia from the port rom, cannot use from base rom.
I will update this rom when I can (and still trying hard) port a newer version. There are a lot changes in CM9 newer version that make the rom cannot boot on our device.
Flash as usually dan do not forget to nandroid backup first !!!

This version is the easiest to port and compatible with our early kernel. I choose a rom to port base of the same cpu and proc. with ds5, but most cm9 rom for those device not mention any version and no nightly builds (maybe that need a lot work to do because unofficial), so I choose this nightly builds by jmztaylor for supersonic which closely to cm9 official build. The bad news is I still facing problem with newer version, the room can boot but no respons on touch screen (I think we need a patch in our kernel as cm team make changes in their kernel and its impact to media libs, video libs, audio libs, surfaceflinger for better responsive and etc). Pls any advice to solve this problem.
Btw, I hv succeed ported latest and final build evervolv ICS rom for nexus one. I think this latest build closely to cm9 RC2 as all evervolv ICS rom build from CM source. But for us it looks like minor changes cause the big improvement is finally native camcorder can record and play.
Sometimes I think better if we can build from the source but at this moment only kibuuka can do that.
I wish he can get ds5 replacement soon and the development can continue.

oh COME ON there's NO magic at all in building cm9 from source. set your build environment (this guide is quite straight-forward) and tell me when you need to know "what do i do next". Do initial build, test it, get bug list and we'll start to figure solutions for it.
Lemme explain my POV bit more: binary patches are only good when you got no access to source (and even if you don't - there's ALWAYS more than one way to deal with a problem - hunderteins' ussd patch was a magic at the moment - but there was an option noone thought about/tried to - using rild-related stuff from froyo (it works (as it's pretty much framework-independent), yet it's free of ussd bug)).
When source's available - it's ALWAYS a good thing - you control a way it built, you're free to patch it at will adding features/resolving issues/whatever you can imagine to do - instead of desperately seeking for a blob that manages not to fc on your device. One more thing to mention - when you manage to fix thing instead of replacing it - you create/produce, instead of consume/waste

Hahahaha.......thanks man for your help, will try it, just do not get annoyed when I keep bug you all the time
This all make me feel like I should go back to college again as I hv no any basic about Linux and Ubuntu, only know little things about android hacking this past few weeks by reading and searching from Google.
First things is can I install Ubuntu on my 10 inch netbook running windows xp 32 bit, from I read we should at least hv Ubuntu 11 64 bit to compile kernel. How it running on 2 OS as I still need windows office to work. Other things, what should I do to recompile apk and jar file. I can decompile and baksmaling but always hv problem to recompile it again, sometimes it works but mostly failed.
Edit : Damn !!! only 1GB RAM

First - what's most powerful pc you have access to? Plenty of RAM and cpu cores gives you a chance to see finished build within universe's lifetime Kiddin, mostly. My build station specs are: [email protected]/8Gb/2x1TB. On this specs sucessfull build done with -j4 takes ~2h15m to complete (integrated build - kernel+system). Netbook (Atom cpu?) with 1Gb seem to be inappropriate device to compile ics on.
Second - you don't have to decompile/recompile separate apks and/or jars. You're downloading source, compiling it and getting ROM as a result.

Yes mine only Acer Aspireone intel atom, with this you're not going any where.......hahahahahaha.
If I hv to replace this old one and get the new powerfull device that will need a lot of money....not worth it as I'm not intend to be a great dev, I better buy HTC One X or SGS3 and leave all this ICS headache.......
I think it should be you, build from CM source and bring fully working CM9 to our device.
Learning and porting ICS rom for past few weeks makes me hv no time for my 2 kids, should hv family issue if I keep doing this............hahahahahaha

I don't know if it's just me, but this seems a little less laggy than the other ICS ROMs out there. If it wasn't for the non-working data, I'd probably use this even though the battery life hasn't improved.
I seem to have problems with Bluetooth, Wifi, and (critically) booting @160dpi.
Absolutely love the rest though
keep up the good work!

[Q]LegacyXperia

Im planning to use either LXP 4.2.2 or 4.3 .
I Just want to ask what scripts & tweaks i should use because games are a bit laggy . :crying:
U still planning on using those rom so how come u already knew games lag on them?
If you want no lags at all, stay with stock rom gingerbread 2.3.4
If you want to use a later version of android just try it and you'll see it's nearly stable with just a few lags/bugs. And I think you should first try the rom before saying it lags

Both LXP 4.2.2 or 4.3 are good for performance. If you really want lagless gaming try to run minimum background apps. Because many background apps eat a lot of ram.
Legacy Xperia wifi
Might be thread Hijacking -- but for people running this -- how pronounced are the wifi issues? I really don't want to cripple the wifi on my phone.

erm - no -- not kidding:
The project page points to:
legacyxperia.github.io
which further refers to:
the page github.com/LegacyXperia/local_manifests/wiki/CM10.2-kernel-3.4-status
The buggy - non-working list is:
Buggy:
Wifi (interruptions)
Wifi hotspot (interruptions)
Not working:
720p video recording is disabled (low frame rate & save ~22MB of RAM)
FM radio (audio is not working)
HDMI
For details, see the issues
I've used a lot of Rom's -- tried a few -- but haven't tried one which says the wifi is buggy. I was looking to see if someone had used it as their daily driver and had a glitch now and then -- or whether wifi works occasionally but mostly doesn't.
While I appreciate that a lot of people ask a lot of questions without trying anything themselves -- but that doesn't mean that every status or experience question is unwarranted, eh?

Not really worried about the full /Not working/ bits -- I can live w/o 720p video and fm radio and hdmi out -- but I use the Wifi hotspot reasonably frequently -- and use wifi at home all the time to keep things synced.

That rom doesn't appear to support Xperia Ray/ Urushi
Just Mini / Pro / Active / Walkman
Thanks though,

Wifi seems to vary with the router or similar. For me it got a lot better, almost ok.
Hotspot does not work well for me. Just stops working after a while.
I like lxp 10.1 a lot, but i don't use wifi/hotspot much. Try it yourself...

Yeah, I'm running Zelly Cream 3.01 at the moment -- it doesn't have google now -- but voice search, navigation and dialing all seem to work pretty well. So I think I'll give this a few months and see how it goes. What I really want is an Xperia Ray w/ 2core cpu and ~ 4x the storage -- selling for about $200. I'd buy four. If gogole can sell a Nexus 4 for $200 --- sony should be able to make money on an updated Ray for $200.
