[Q] Question about Liten'ning Rom - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, I just flashed liten'ning rom 3.2, and it is truly an amazing rom.
I have a nooby question lol The rom is based on the KG2 kernel, does that mean I have to find that kernel and flash it by odin? I am still running the kernel from my old rom (the kg1)
Thanks alot!!

NO ! KG2 Kernel is in the rom you flashed.
Look in settings, phone info, scroll down und you see your baseband and kernel version, that you have installed on your phone.
regards spirotech

Thank you very much for your fast reply!
But it is not there, I couldn't take a pic for some reason by clicking power and home button but here is what it says:
Baseband Version:
I9100XXKG2
Kernel Version:
[email protected] #2
Build Number:
Liten'ning Rom V3.2 XXKG2
As the kernel says, that is a KG1 Kernel, any ideas?

Hmm,
mine says kg1 too!
I'll wait for 3.3 or whatever.
He's doing a good job!
Adrian.
SGS2 I9100
Lite'nin rom 3.2

Litening is amazing! However 3.2 seems off and quite buggy. I flashed back to 3.0 and 3.0 states KG2.
I would wait for a more polished 3.x version and stick to 3.0 or 2.2.

Thanks for your responses! I thought i had to manually flash the kernel haha

Updated to lite'nin rom 4
Adrian.

Lite'nin rom 3.2

I've updated to 4.1 kernel.
I 'm using Xscope browser. Exellent.

To be honest I kept having battery problems for some reasons, even though I made a clean install with wipe and all, I am trying cognition for now and it seem super awesome, I am gonna have to learn how to make rtl support for deodexed roms myself though it take awhile for ppl to post them haha

just clearing cache won't clear your battery stats.
go into CWM => advanced => Wipe battery stats ( charge your phone to full before )
normally, that should help after a few cycles (had a totally funky battery life when switched from KF3 to KG1 (when i upgraded from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4) and this has sorted the problem.)

[Q] Noob Question: Installing speedmod with lite'ning rom 6.0

Hi everyone,
I am new to the Android community and I just have a questions. My main goals from flashing a new kernel and custom rom would be to get rid of bloatware, get better battery life and more customization.
I am planning on installing the Speedmod kernel along with lite'ning rom 6.0. Is that a good choice?
Also, does the order in how I install them matter? Because in the lite'ning rom post,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095274
it mentioned that it uses the kernel kernel ninphetamine 2.0.5. Does installing the lite'ning rom overwrite the speedmod kernel? If it does, what's the best order of installing the combination. Also, both of these mention that it comes with root and CWM, does that mean I don't have to root it first? And I can just install it straight from stock?
My current plan to install is to:
Install lite'ning rom 6.0.
Then install the Speedmod kernel.
Thank you so much for any input and help that you guys can provide me.
You can flash any kernel over any ROM. You just have to think what you need, choose the kernel on the basis of that.
Regards.
Is there a post where I can find a list of kernels? Or do you have any recommendations?
I am looking for one that is stable, and have great battery life. If it's fast too, thats a bonus
Thank you
Well I only used two so far, Ninphetamine and Chainfire. Outta them CF is the obvious best IMO, Ninpho drained too much battery, may be for BLN, but I won't give a single percentage for that damn thing.
Link to CF kernel,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Link to Ninpho kernel,

Just give a look at the Original Android Development Section, you will find lot more.
Don't say Thanks, just hit my Thanks button instead,
Regards.
Thanks for the reply. I have a question about BLN. What is it? Every post seems to talk about it but I can't find a definition of it anywhere. :S
And okay, thanks button pressed!

[Q] DarkyROM2 XXKI3 Base (2.3.5)

Yeahhhhh Ninphetamine Kernel!!! That explains the battery stat! ;D
I loved that kernel! Btw, you meant 'swipe' means did not wipe right?
How to install this ROM?
Via CWM. Read the link provided by klarmacker.
@klarmacker. Dude, I've already flashed the latest ROM.
In settings,
Android Version: 2.3.4 (Thought its 2.3.5???)
BB: I9100XXKI1 <--- (Isn't it supposed to be I9100XXKI4?)
Build #: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4

The link is right just typos.
KI4 is 2.3.4, KI3 is 2.3.5. BB has nothing to do with the rom, it's the modem.

-Copy DarkyROM2_KI3_Base.zip into internal storage.
-Use odin to update SupperCore_2.0
-Hold Volume Up + Home + Power/Lock button until you boot into ClockworkMod Recovery
-Use the volume up/down, home and back keys to navigate to backup and storage > backup. -You can use this backup later on if you want to restore to your current ROM.
-Once the backup is complete download DarkyROM2 tool from the Android market
-Launch DarkyROM2 tool and navigate to DarkyROM tab and enable Wipe user data.
-Navigate back to General tab > Flash/Install File from SDCARD and select DarkyROM2_KI3_Base.zip.
-Wait patiently until the Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with TouchWiz 4.0 is flashed onto your device.

[Q] A little help! please.

Hi All,
My first post here. Yay!!
I have SGS2 and wanted to have latest and greatest. Spend few days reading this forum and got reasonable understanding of root, kernel, rom and firmware. I've even update my phone from XWKDD to XXKI3 non-wipe Frankenstein version and updated kernel to stock XXKI3 as well. I also then updated rom to VillianROM 3.0 which is very new and has 2.3.5 in it.
All working great and haven't bricked the phone.
However, I am bit confused and was hoping you guys could clear up my confussion.
Basically what I want to know is, does ROM include Kernel?
If so, did I updated my kernel when I flashed VillainROM?
If someone could explain what has happened when I did below.
1. Flashed XWKDD insecure kernel and rooted the phone using superoneclick.
2. Few days later, flashed XXKI3 non-wipe firmware (pda, modem & csc all in one).
3. Flashed XWKDD insecure kernel and rooted phone using superoneclick.
4. Flashed kernel to stock XXKI3 to remove yellow triangle, phone is still rooted.
5. Flashed VillainROM 3.0
Hope I've asked questions correctly, if not forgive me, its only my first post here.
Every rom uses different kernels, now your phone is using the kernel that comes with Villain rom. If you are not happy with the kernel that you are using now you can download one from forums then change it by flashing it using cwm.

So, in my phone I no longer have KI3 stock kernel but instead "inphetamine2.0.5" kernel which is used in Villainrom 3.
will lookup bit more on this kernel to understand what it has to offer.
thanks for information.

Villain 3 is your rom and Ninpethamine 2.0.5 is your rom. I would suggest that you change your kernel to newer version to Ninphetamine 2.1.3 . Go to kernel forums in xda and read some more and you can get more info about all other kernels and you will find performances of each kernels.

I updated kernel as per your suggestion to Ninphetamine 2.1.3, all appears to be ok and didn't find any difference. Well, I am not that techie and my requirements are mostly basic so won't notice much difference but I am sure it is better then previous version.
Thanks for your help.
Theh were using 2.0.5 with VR rom and according to them its more stable and battery friendly. You can monitor it and if you find it better or 2.0.5 better you can always flash it back.

Basically the ROM developper chooses the kernel that he finds more suitable to his ROM and loadsit with the ROM. You can change the kernel if you want after flashing the ROM. For me, I like the cf root KI3 v4.2 kernel (stock kernel), but if you want to overclock or undervolt you'll need a custom kernel (don't know if nimphetamine can UC/UV, I think it can, if not there are other great options too).
The thing I found with the cf root kernel is that for users that don't know how to undervolt or do most advanced stuff (me included) it has better battery life. Or at least for me the cf root kernel showed the best battery life. At the end, the best is to try various kernels and see which is best for you.

Is the cfw and modem the best for my phone?

As stated in the title, are these the best that are on offer for my phone? only problem i get atm are a few apps crash every now and then. Also I've done a nandroid backup and kept titanium backup, if there are better fw/modem updates, has the phone got to be reset to factory settings?
Thanks

also my battery life its worse than what i thought it would be using this fw, but then i watch a lot of videos on it. I've also performed battery collab a few times now, get about 9hrs life when watch good 1.5 hrs video, is this good?

you can change the modem if you want. i am currently using KL1 modem or LP1. Signal strength is great and not so bad either on the battery. everyone raves about this modem anyway. Regarding the kernel that you are using if it is giving you great battery life and stability that is great to. Now i am using siyah latest version and also the latest version of cwm manager apk which is version 3.0 and clockwordmod recovery which is 5.0.27. i think you are on 4.0 something if i am not mistaken.
what i am trying to say here as long as you are getting stability and good battery life no need to update or flash and just wait for when ICS villainrom is out. if you are a flash junkie then siyah kernel is a good start or speedmod kernel if you do not like to tweak around with voltages
What is C F W ???

thanks for the reply mate, i will have a look at updating the modem you suggested, being an Android virgin i dont like to mess around too much as i don't want to completely screw up my phone! like you said its working fine apart from the odd app crashing, might be best to just wait for villainrom ics.

flashing ROM

hello.
i already root my phone with odin and xw kl1.now a want to install Lite'ning Rom but i cant find one with KL1 firmware base.
if i want to change default ROM i have to search a ROM based on my kernel ( in my case XW KL1 ) ?
thanks
Wrong area, your going to get flamed big time... You can flash any base, Doesnt need to be one that matches your current.. Id recommend backing your default base/ROM up tho.
you can flash any ROM it doesn't have to.match.with what your on just make sure you make a backup before flashing if you get stuck just pm me I'll be happy to help and I'm sure devs and users will help you I'm sure I got the help I needed ..try omega ROM 10.4 I think that's on wkl1 ok good luck

If I flash my S2 with 4.0.3 did it keep arabic caracters, i have now Andoid ver 2.3.4 ??
BB version I9100XXKH3
Ver number
Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3
Tks
omega stock and blue black installed.works fine but no battery saving so far.
is there a top 10 of custom ROM regarding battery saving.i'm not interested in high quadrant score.i'm not using the phone for games.
No. There isn't a 'top 10 of custom rom regarding battery saving'.
For the simple reason that everyone uses their phone differently, everyone has their phone setup differently (apps, etc) and no two phones come out of the factory exactly the same. You won't have the same experience as me if you use the same rom/kernel as me (or anyone else).
Try a bunch of roms until you find one that works well for you.
