Few Basic Questions - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

I bought my Ace week ago .. I wasn't aware of the Jargon used in the forums now i think i m getting hang of it .. So let me know i have correct understanding of that jargon as i am planning to flash my phone with the latest fw version and gonna root it as well (wanna be a little adventurous with my phone .. hope i dont mess it ) I want to know the benefits of rooting and upgrading to 2.3.4 .. The benefits i know is that u can install new applications on SD card which will save up internal memory and make it a little faster .. Video recording at higher resolution .. What else ? Let me know about the issues faced by you guys for upgrading it to the latest fw .. Heard there is some delay at screen lock .. And if i upgrade the firmware does it format my phone memory or memory card ? if not then will it affect the existing applications and how will i save up the internal memory eaten up by existing applications .. Should also let you guys know that i did a firmware upgrade via Kies coupla days back which prompted as done successfully but still it shows up the same 2.2.1 .. So i wanted to know was there any problem with the upgrade or it was some other firmware upgrade not related to Gingerbread upgrade? Sorry for asking too many questions

Upgrading to 2.3.4 will unfortunately remove your applications but wont format your SD Card. 2.3.4 is a lot faster then in froyo (2.2.1). The only problem is the lock screen delay. The clock at the lock screens font is different and the copy and paste is better. New download app to manage your downloads. Improved power management and app control. New icons on status bar. Thats what I can think of.

yup, with leaked gingerbread 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 (including custom roms based on both) there will be lag at lockscreen

i think flashing will just format ur internal memory, not ur sdcard. but it always a good practice to backup ur whole data. better to be safe than sorry.

check ur baseband version, maybe just changed there but not android version.

i dont feel any lag screen delay, infact i installed adw launcher and still no lags at all.
You should try upgrading and rooting your phone. If you feel uncomfortable, then you can flash back your old fw, it takes only 5 mins!

Im taking a wild guess by your username that you are Danish, if so there is a upgrade to 2.3.3 wich is right for your country code, it should be available now via KIES with this upgrade you wont loose any apps allready installed on the phone if you cannot receive it via KIES you can also grab it and install it manually with the one-package method in ODIN.

Intersting i think ill be doing the upgrading and rooting after i get some instruction from you guys .. My baseband version is S5830JXKC1 .. Sam fit says region unknown and in tutorial on how to flash samsung ace the firmware written S5830XXKPH is European .. So would it be fine if i flash that firmware ? And let me know which firmware is more stable and faster 2.3.3 or 2.3.4 ? @albert thats my name .. am from Pakistan and there ve been no 2.3.3 updates..I just want to improve my Ace performance as i find it sluggish sometimes which maybe due to internal memory eaten up by applications .. Rooting will allow me install applications on SD card right ? And how do i make up a backup for my existing stock 2.2.1 to be on safe side .. its not rooted

yes.. rooting combined with link2sd, or with darktremore a2sd should be good for you
and to backup ur froyo, read this

Okay so finally i flashed to 2.3.4 XXKPH and rooted my phone using hubix's tutorial (excellent guide for newbies) . I formatted my sd card as well after rooting my phone .. So atm my phone is completely empty because i wanted some guidance from you guys to make sure every application i install now on my phone goes directly to my sd card instead of internal phone memroy .. Secondly can any one explain me what are ROMS ? Do we follow the same procedure for flashing roms as was explained in hubix's tutorial ? Does it clean up internal phone memory if we flash any rom ?

[Q] SD Card Issues on Mac with custom ROMS

Can anyone tell me if there is a stable Froyo Rom (I prefer a stock looking ROM with no TouchWiz), that will not brick my phone the second I mount my SD card(s) on my Mac? I haven't rooted again yet after a full Odin stock restore back to 2.1, but when I do, I usually use the LagFix found on the Market. Is that my problem? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks all!
This SD problem is fixed whit the Sd_fix file ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833024 ) , i had the same problem and now is fixed whit this file... for now my only problem is the phone memory is not recognized by iphoto to upload the pics to my mac.

So really it doens't matter the root method, it's just the ROM that affects the SD card issue, got it! I have used that ROM you suggested and it was pretty sick, but I didn't like the red and grey theme. just wasn't feelin it. Anywho, thanks for your help.

[Q] Updating to Gingerbread :)

flash GB bootloaders then you can flash any GB rom over whatever rom
theres ways to do it without the bootloaders but you'll get rainbow screen on boot and wont be able to see recovery
Flash using GB bootloader,it can fix rainbows and use any GB ROM

bootloaders 1st
cant flash straight to a GB rom from froyo without them
only rom i know of that can be is SH3.3, can flash that from froyo without them then flash whatever other GB rom you want through rom manager i think (i did this because i dont trust odin)
some have .tar files so you can flash them through odin to get to GB but voodoo sometimes messes up so you still need the bootloaders to go to recovery and disable it if it does
easiest way's to flash the bootloaders then just flash whatever GB over whatever
thanks again
i have flashed using gb boot loader
i am going to try Simply Honey 4.0 Revolution(JVQ GB 2.3.4) custom rom.
will post what happens

theres a 2.3.4 problem with calls for some people but it seems random, iv never had it on 3.8, 3.9 or 4.0, some people have had it on all of them
hi,
all things working fine
but just wondering how to upgrade to Medium OR Large sized version of that OS.
i am currently on the light version of Simply Honey 4.0 Revolution(JVQ GB 2.3.4)

all GB roms are taken from i9000 because we dont have an official GB for our phones
dont know what its because of why calls dont work for some people, they worked for everyone on 2.3.3 i think
dont think radio works because there isnt any radio drivers for our phone so just uninstall it
video calling is there for the people that have put an FFC into their vibrant, it doesnt change anything
MIUI FTW
If you wanna flash a GB ROM trust me MIUI 1.29.11 is the way to go. You will be surprised how nice it is. Just give it a try.
P.S. I flashed it coming from a 2.2 ROM (trigger 3.3) without flashing bootloader. Just did the same old flashing process (wipe, wipe, wipe)
well,
i am on 2.3.4 and i want to reverse back to a 2.3 rom "Team Toxic "Crazy8".
so i do have to install old bootloaders according to them.
anyone got a idea how to do that ?
thanks

i came from bionix 131 was a great rom but get ready for bad assness
1. assuming you have cwm, flash cwm recovery, pick vibrant mtd, click yes then chose clockworkmod 2.x
2. go to download rom, go to cyanogen nightlies and pick perhaps the highest build number unless it has really bad remarks.
3. do the usual clear cache, clear dalv, flash it, fix permissions
let it boot and sit for a few and hold on to your panties...lol
nope gps does not work. but from what i remember bionix gps was pretty spotty as well
dont forget to wipe data, anyways reading some of the posts. simply galaxy is cool, love the blue but cm7 is waaaaay smoother and highly customizable. and you dont need to flash gb bootloaders. and if you want to go back once you flashed gb loaders, your gonna gave to get froyo boots back, from what i remember. cm7 has made it too easy to flash, was kind of tricky in the beginning, but did it for the fun of it

S5830L Noob questions.

Hello, im new here and new at android devices.
I have a S5830L from Personal(ARGENTINA).
The first time i upgraded to 2.3.4 i lost my 3g capabilities. Later, trying others files i finally recover my 3g.
My current setup is: PDA: KP7 PHONE:KP7 CSC:KP7.
Im interested in trying CyanogenAce or CyanogenMod7. I will have the same 4g problems? Its recommended to try the Betas or i must wait to some final version?
Thanks
Lost 3g capabilities LOL? ur kidding me xD, anyway
if you wanna install Cyano Ace Flash to KPB 2.3.3 http://hotfile.com/dl/116307445/a37322f/S5830XXKPB.rar.html
After that install ClockWorkMod which is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1168417
Copy it to the sd root , reboot phone get into recovery mode by pressing Home + Power Button Update from zip and select Clockworkmod
Download the RC2 Cyano Ace zip and the RC 2.1 update , into the sd card make 2 folder called ¨Update¨ and ¨Cyano¨, copy the RC2 Installer into Cyano, Copy the RC 2.1 update into Update Folder.
After doing that reboot phone again, get into recovery mode the clockworkmod will appear , go to the install from zip menu and select the Cyano Folder and install the rc2, after that is done, select again install from zip and select the rc 2.1 update in the update folder, reboot and happy cyano, u need to wait a little to boot because it takes a lil to boot at first time.
Remember to add your Apn settings to have 3g...
You are right - when I was using russian 2.3.4 there was 3G bug and it doesnt work to...
I am testing CyanoAce for a two days and everything is working normaly for this time... Its good to make bigger sd-ext while preparing sd card and move dalvik cache to it... look at my gallery there are some pics of benchmarks testing cyanoace
And its good to make a battery formating in cwm after instaling this rom... ( perhaps batery must be at 100 % before this! )
Its faster than 2.3.4

Well, as far as I know (and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong), CyanoAce (I guess you're referring to BehradGH and Grif07's versions) and CyanogenMod7 differ one from another on some parts of the ROM as kernel and such; but they're supposed to be the same if not an exact copy of an original version of CM7. Did that helped you?

Cool man, thanks.
The main issue im having is the battery duration, this will help ?
You and everybody else. That depends on your usage, your 3G network strength signal and your availability to connect to WiFi every time it's possible since WiFi wastes less battery than 3G/2G.
I will try that then. My phone is rooted, this will change anything when flashing to cyanoace?
I wrote it before - do you wipe battery setings in cwm after porting cyanoace rom? Its better to fo it... but battery must be at this moment on 100% level... Than it maebe will keep a longer time using your device...

Hi, I also have the Galaxy ACE S-5830L and want to install CyanogenMod 7.1 2.3.7 RC 2.2; now I understand than I need to flash with KPB firmware, but the 3G network will work good after installing CyanogenMod? if not, can I use the modem from KP7 with CyanogenMod?
I'm from Bolivia, my Carrier is TIGO.
Thanks in advance.
As far as I know, based on my experience, you can flash any ROM you get your sweet hands on, the signal will work, the 3g depends, you can dial *#2263# and select the frequency your carrier uses, but if that doesn't work you must flash (via odin) the unbranded modem for Latinamerica.
Tanks for the answer, I'm starting to download all the stuff needed to flash my phone.

EDIT:
Now with CyanogenMod 7.1 RC2.2 working very well on my Ace, not needed to flash KPB, with my original modem firmware it works with 3G Network.

[Q] Root and custom rom for S5830

Alright this is my first post here..
I am a complete newbie as far android rooting and custom rom installation is concerned. I have been using Samsung galaxy ace's stock installation unrooted phone for about 6 months...after installing a few apps the phone has become sluggish..and battery drains out more quickly I can do a factory reset
but its not practical reinstalling apps again and again . I figured out custom rom is the way to go to unlock the potential of the phone but the chances of bricking my phone has stopped from taking the plunge.
I haven't yet found a recent how to root and install custom rom post for the galaxy ace S5830 ,the ones that are available are 8 -9 months old I believe a lot has changed since then
My current rom is gingerbread DDKQ6
In short this is what I want
1) Back-up the entire factory os( ie samsung touchwiz etc)..incase I screw up I can always go back.
2) root the phone
3) Install a stable and secure rom gingerbread or ics (even better) which is fast and doesn't lag after installing a few apps. without sacrificing any original features of the phone apart from touchwiz
4) a rom which has all google apps running (gmail, android market, placess, navigation ,search, youtube etc).. i noted the current ics roms for galaxy ace don't have the camera working.
Pls help.

Chances of bricking is very less. You can read the stickies in development section. All info given there. Nothing much has changed. So you can use the old posts without worry.

For flashing a rom, ALWAYS delete Dalvic cache, cache and factory reset. Remember those 3 and you can flash any rom you want. Delete these before installing the rom, then flash.
Some roms don't require you to delete one of those, but always do just for safety measures and to avoid future problems.
How do i update superuser app?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
As other users told you you can follow other guides about galaxy ace (even 11 month old, not so much have changed (for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145).
Just two advices if it's your firs experience with ROMs and root (that I learned here, and "save" my smartphone til now! )
1) To avoid lag and memory limits you should try link2sd or a2sd when yo'ull root (google for them)
2) NEVER use ROM Manager (or the CWM apk pre-installed in some ROMs) to backup your phone/intall ROMs/MOD/etc (NEVER USE IT!) because it'll brick your Ace!
Hope have helped you... Good Luck

Download Clockworkmod recovery from dev section
Install it by going to recovery-apply update then choose the sip file
Reboot

choose AOSP rom ok?

so the backup of the stock ROM is to be taken before rooting orr after rooting?
Back up with cwm after rooting and after installing cwm. Still, the best way to return to stock is Samfirmware and flashing through Odin (u need a PC and the ace's controllers).
It's all in the forums, just don't rush to flashing stuff without an exit plan.

guys with a good heart please help a poor fellow like me this is only my phone and i cant change it

you should downgrade to 2.3.4 version. follow a tutorial for how to do that using flashtool and .ftf files. 4.0.4 (ics) is to .heavy for this phone. i have the same but i stay with ics cause i have it for backup phone. on 2.3.4 version some game may be not compatible. you can also use a custom kernel but the lag remains
