whats ur opinion abt tablets? i would like to purchace a new tab ( 3g option is a must). i am confused ipad2 or samsung or asus transformer....any suggestions?
Edit:just heard Acer A 501 has 3G..hmmm and has roms in xda...well then i lk no further
if you plan on hacking the tablet, dont get an ipad. you can jailbreak it, but afaik you cant overclock it or flash any roms. ive read on xda that the transformer can be overclocked to 1.8 ghz (but dont take my word for it). you should stick with android if you want all the customization.
if you dont plan on hacking it, well id still get one of the other tablets, especially the transformer which, i believe, has the best specs out of the three of them

There is no generic "Android Tablet" forum section, so I am posting this here.
Should I go with the Archos G9 10 Turbo ISC 16GB for $380 or Asus Transformer Prime TF201 32GB (not TF101) for $500. This is my first tablet purchase, but I have been using multiple Android phones (HTC, Motorola, Samsung) with custom ROMs for years now.
Both of them appear to have an active custom ROM development community...

Asus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1417
I almost wish one of them didn't since that would make my choice easy as a custom ROM community base is a must! So, I really do not want to pay nearly $150 more for the Asus if the benefits are not there, but I have never used either, and they are completely out of stock in stores local to my area, so I cannot go use them and decide.
Here are my requirements (why I settled on these two models)
Must be at least 1GHz and dual-core
Must have at least 16GB internal memory
Must run ICS natively (or be upgradable to ICS and run it well)
Must have a custom ROM development community base on XDA
Thanks for the input!
I was curious if anyone had any idea if the Prime would be able to run Win RT when released. I think it would be awesome to have access to both systems on this hardware. Hey the Asus Tablet 600 has a Tegra 3 also.
Given how the Prime struggles to run Android properly, I wouldn't place much hope on it. Certainly Asus wouldn't be supporting it. They're too busy as it is trying to fix up the Android experience.
Maybe the XDA devs will come up with something...

From what I understand, the Asus Tablet 600 basically a Transformer Prime, except it has double the RAM. So, I'm certain it would run on our TF201s, but the problem is Win RT is only available installed on new devices. You won't be able to buy a disc or download it from MS like Win 7 or W8. If someone were to somehow extract the image from a device, say the 600, I'm sure it would be more likely than not that it would run on our tabs.
I'm also hoping for this to happen. Dual boot would be sick, but I might even replace Android with WinRT if I had to. I'd probably go back and fourth between OSes if it weren't too complicated.
Fingers crossed
from what i have read, windows rt would require a different bootloader.
so there is basically no chance it would come to the tf201
Hello, I'm new here and this is my first thread so if it's not in the right place i apologize...
Firstly, I know nothing about developing and nothing about what a kernel does or anything like this, I just know how to flash things and read tutorials haha
Few questions for my LG p990 - 3 UK
I've looked around and haven't found anything about tethering that helps me, I'm wondering if there's a way of tethering with out being charged for this? I've got completely unlimited internet for my phone but i will get charged if i tether, Is there anyway to bypass this and use my 3G internet on a laptop?
Also about xbmc, I've used xbmc since the original xbox and actually still use my old xbmc xbox on a daily basis but using it for HD films obviously doesn't work, Now xbmc on the optimus is fairly stable but i unerstand that no one's got the tegra2 optimized to work with HD unless it's on the original ROM, Will this change soon or am i going to have to upgrade my phone (Running CM7 and love it and would hate to go back to standard ROM)
And... I've tried other kernels and they just don't work well with CM7 if atall! but i would like to be able to overclock my phone, It's powerful enough but more power is never a bad thing. Is there any very stable released kernels and ROMS that will allow me to overclock and be awesome?!
And the last thing... I read somewhere that S2 korean keyboard is apparently almost as good as the iphones and some mentioned backporting it to work on any android phone? First thing would it be in english? and would it be better than the jellybean keyboard i've got installed at the minute (tried every keyboard on the android market and this one beats them all!)
Thank you, And please go easy on me for being a pain... I'm only 19 and i'm more of a graphic designer and nowhere near a developer.
Hi, wanted to know which one you recommend, i already have the tf201 but it have the normal problems like wifi/bt/gps/random boot-loops/browser crashes.
I was offered to replace to the tf300 but declined due to the fact the tf201 is twice more powerful, now i got offered to switch to the tf600 which i just now isn't an android at all and uses windows. is it possible to put android on it? is it more powerful then the tf201 and how stable is it compared to a laptop...
I prefer android myself due to my line of work but if that does all the prime can do and even better just without having android i don't find it to be such a big problem.
Would be happy to hear from people who have tried the tf600, also some info about specs could help i didn't find it in the Asus site it shows some different Vivo types which are much more powerful then the tf600, some say it got a tegra3 processor while others say its the cortex-A9 and others Intel® Atom™ Z2760 Dual-Core. wanted to know maybe it got the prime back plate problem?
P.S
is it possible to add android on this tablet? it got a windows RT on it[the tf600]
Thank You.
Oh wise sages of XDA, I have returned to ask your opinions.
I am looking for the best and cheapest platform to do some Kernel modifications too (and work on a custom rom). I have been using the Nexus devices and I was successfully able to edit the kernel to include a 3rd party driver I needed as well as manipulate the rom. That being said, Nexus 7 2013s are still $180 and we would like something much cheaper (the Nexus is really overkill as far as power goes).
To that end, I have picked up a DeerBrook 7" DB Dual Core Tablet from Amazon for under $40. As expected, it is a very cheap piece of kit, but hardware wise it should do for the project we are conducting. However, the ROM and kernel seem locked down and the processor Allwinner A23 seems to have little to no support. I have an email into Deerbrooke to see if I can get access to their Kernel / ROM but I am not holding out much hope.
What would you all suggest? Anything sub-$100 would be ideal, otherwise we may have to stick with expensive Nexus devices.
Thanks in advance!
