... would this still be the phone to get over the SGSII? I'm not talking about sense vs touchwiz, i'm talking about raw power. How would the two phones compare running a stable nearly identical CM7? Can anyone (NO BIAS please) explain to me which phone has better capabilities?
I know I'm getting WAYY ahead of myself, but i'm still deciding IF HTC responded to their customers and unlocked the bootloader if I would get the EVO 3D or still wait for the SGSII, considering I'm sticking with either one for the next two years.
I've heard people say the SGSII has better raw power-- on the SGSII forum
I've also heard the some of you on this forum say the EVO 3D is better. Obviously, there is some bias involved and one phone is more powerful than the other.
I actually have some hope that HTC might do something about the bootloader. If this is the case, I have a really tough decision on which phone to still get. As for now, if the bootloader remains unlocked, its SGSII all the way

seriously why does it even matter? Say one phone is faster than the other. The specs are so close together that any speed difference would barley even be noticeable on a side by side. The difference would be nothing if you didn't have both phones in hand.
Really I think the biggest difference would be the UI, so debate sense vs touchwiz
Why does it matter what phone is faster?? Well thats a stupid question

No, it's a valid question and jessejames makes a very good point ... the specs are so close that any speed difference would be negligible from a user standpoint, especially if you're not actually doing a side-by-side comparison.
I'd even go so far as to say that the effective data rate differences between the various 4G transmission standards will have significantly more of an effect on apparent phone response times in many applications than any actual benchmark differences between the two phones.
I feel like the EVO 3d isn't much of an improvement over the EVO. Downgrade in camera department and no full 1080p recording. And still skimping on internal storage...not sure if the 3d screen is worth losing those other features....
I think ima wait for the sgs2 since the EVO 3d is the same as my EVO with a 3d screen and slightly better performance
After seeing the sgs2 vs HTC sensation it makes me wonder about the snapdragon processor....it doesn't compare in those performance test

Bump the processing power from 1Ghz to 1.2Ghz then double it, double the ram, bump the resolution to qHD, shoot 1080p in 2D, 720p in 3D, and that's not much of an upgrade from the original EVO?

I do believe you are just misinformed. The EVO is the Sensation just with 3d added. They both have a SLCD qhd display. Also, just because the Sensation's camera is 8mp does not mean it is better. The EVO is 8mp and the camera is much worse then many other phones that are 5mp.
You need to do some more research as far as MP's are concerned as well as the comparing the Sensation to the EVO 3d.
I believe I was very nice with my response. Other's might not be this kind to you. lol

Your basing camera quality on MPs. That's your first mistake, HTC has stated the camera on the E3D is much improved over the original evo. Why? Better lens, hardware, etc. MPs don't matter as much as you would like to believe. The 5MP camera on the iPhone is a perfect example. More on board storage would be nice but with 32GB mSD available and 64GB on the way I'm not too worried about it. Storage has never been an issue for me in the past and it won't be in the future.
Tapa tapa tapa
OP, its going to come down to personal preference. Both of these phones have monstrous specs and will perform quote similarly. They both have rock star CPUs and GPUs and will be very closely matched in performance.

If you are even familiar with the actual specs--which it sounds like you definitely are not--then you have absolutely no understanding of what they mean.
This phone is a beast. Any performance difference between the two will be negligible bone-stock and even more negligible modded to the teeth.
Tell us, what did they "skimp out" on? The asynchronous dual core 1.2gHz cpu? The kick-ass new adreno gpu? the qHD screen that just so happens to also do 3D? A GIGABYTE of ram? Over a certain amount internal storage means absolutely nothing to anybody who knows better, and Evo3D is far past this amount.
Not to mention HTC build quality and dev community (now with official mfgr support). I would accuse you of holding specs in too high a regard over other more important things...but I don't think you even understand the specs enough to be doing that.
Someone gave you some koolaide and you drank it. You love koolaide.

This is yet another portion of your mis-information. You realize the two screens have differing resolutions, correct? Not a little difference either, but a vast 35% pixel difference. The Adreno 220 is I believe more powerful then the SGS2's gpu, but is also doing 35% more work with the higher pixel count that qHD brings to the table.
Also, pure processing tests did not show the sensation as weaker, it got what, 46MFLOPS? Not to mention the dual core is much more efficient on battery life then the tegra2 was.
Your points are all invalid as you simply don't include all the variables that create the differences.
Edit: I want to add my post was not meant as a defense of the E3D, as I'm personally seriously considering the SGS2 solely for its slenderness. But when you see posts that full of one sided information and wrong conclusions it's only natural to respond.

Apples and oranges.
You're going to get a lot of different feedback because not everyone likes to even root their phones. In that case they will probably favor the Amaze. The die hard members with ORD will likely favor the Sensation. You're question is quite vague. What do you plan on doing with the responses? Are you considering purchasing one or the other or do you want this to turn into a heated discussion where members are going to be flaming eachother?
depends what you're looking for!!! my GF has the sensation I have the amaze. If you're not a picky person they're both good phones...
main advantages of amaze are
-better camera with dedicated buttons
-faster data speeds up to 42mbps
-faster processor
disadvantages:
-light leak from capacitive buttons (which I could really care less about myself)
-leak from flash into camera lens (a big one for me, but there's a cheap fix on the forums
-no s-off
-battery hog
Advantages of sensation
-more developemen (however amaze is catching up very quick)
- lighter and thinner phone
- no cpacitive button light leak
- no camera light leak
-better battery life then amaze, not by much
- you can probably buy it cheaper now
disadvantages
-slower processor
-camera not as good as amaze
-not as fast data connection as amaze
others can add more I don't remember, this was from the top of my head.

I vote apples, no wait oranges.
to the guy who posted advantages and disadvantages.. you forgot one of the most import things!! RAM difference.. i noticed a huge difference.
I love having over 200mb RAM free when i am not doing a thing.. it makes me feel more comfortable to use bigger apps and install a lot of apps. with the sensation it seems to slow it down. well that was my experiance.
I upgraded to the Amaze because it will be updated by HTC longer (1 year they have to update it im sure) MUCH better camera, more RAM, high clocked CPU, better FFC for video chat and self portraits, much better built quality, etc.
One thing you and a lot of other people should take note of: a phone working out of box is WAY more important than a phone that isnt, even if it has "better developement". we arent that far behind really now that we have another dev
Can't I love BOTH my phones equally?
I couldn't choose even if I tried....but I agree with Binary, the Amaze has a better experience out of the box (unrooted) and the Sensation has an amazing development section with TONS OF ROMs. (not that the Amaze doesn't have excellent development, it does...there are just more variants of the Sensation and it's been available waaaay longer)

It depends what you care about. The camera alone sold me on the Amaze.
Mhm I think amaze. Xe is cool because it has 3.5 right out of the box if I'm not mistaken and we here in the amaze don't have a fully working one yet. The camera on the amaze is just phenomenal

The faster processor, faster data speeds, and increased RAM are what sold me on the amaze. I personally like the form factor more on the amaze. It's a little bigger but that is strictly opinion. The data is faster on the amaze, I went from getting 2mb down in the town I live in with a mytouch 4g to around 5-6 with the amaze. I can't speak for the sensation on data pes however.
I'm coming from a Nexus one and currently using an international sensation (w/ edge speeds only ) and am looking for new phone b/c I can't take the slow speeds anymore. I'm mainly trying to decide between the HTC Amaze and HTC sensation 4g, but open to other phones as well.
I haven't personally used the Amaze before, so I figure it would be a good idea to ask you all for your personal opinions of why you chose the Amaze. I generally prefer the HTC build quality over that of Galaxy S2's. However, the sensation seems sleeker than the Amaze and is a more popular phone, which means more development activity (also, I read something about how Tmobile is taking it off their shelves but keeping the sensation..??). On the other hand, the Amaze has 42mbps data capabilities while sensation is only 14.4 or something =/.
Well I cannot say for certain whether max data speed has much affect on average speeds or not but max I've gotten on my amaze is about 13mb/s but anything above 5 is pretty good imo. Now as far as preferences... I like the feel and sleek design of the sensation much better, it felt better without a case or anything but I was always paranoid without it having a case and I had dust under the screen a lot... I've had possession of about 4 sensations and no matter what rom I ran. The amaze was smoother and faster out of the box. That's saying a lot imo and the camera is great in my opinion. This phone also seems more consistent and less prone to issues. That's just my 2 cents
Sent from my HTC Amaze 4G using XDA App
If you care for custom roms, the Amaze is not for you. Frankly, the ones available suck, if you're looking to ditch Sense. They still have large elements of sense remaining.
But if you don't care... the Amaze is a nice phone. Good build quality with an amazing camera.
go with the amaze if you want the upgraded camera, HSPA+, and the increase in RAM + CPU.
go with the sensation if you want more dev support, and the increase in battery standby time.
i've never seen 42mbps personally, but i often reach 20 mbps on 4g.
imho you can't go wrong either way.
First of all, if you care about speed which location are you on.. it all depends where you are or how the draft of 4g is on your place.. yeah they say it @42 mbps but in reality you can't reach that speed.. again it depends on your location for the speed..
The Amaze has a 25% faster processor, 33% more RAM, 4 times the internal storage (16GB vs 4GB), an NFC chip, dedicated camera and camcorder buttons, a wider aperture F2.2 camera lens, a better front camera (2 MPix vs VGA), supports HSPA+ 42, 802.11a WiFi (in addition to b/g/n), and AT&T's UMTS freqs in addition to T-Mobile's.
best ive ever gotten on my amaze is ~9 mb, but then again, it all depends on network load, signal strength etc. if youre rom flasher, the only thing youll miss is lack of roms. hopefully that will change soon, im already sick of bloated ass sense...
Former Nexus one user
Having owned the nexus one and now the amaze I can see where you're coming from. If you like the size of the sensation, then the amaze should feel perfect for you. I think its a little too big, but it seems like it's impossible to get a phone with decent specs that isn't gigantic. But here's just a quick overview:
The camera software on the Amaze, is just simply spectacular.
Amaze has some pretty sweet download speeds I think I've hit like 13-17 a few times.
Better specs that the Sensation.
I think both the sensation and amaze were posted as being end of life phones over on the tmonews site. If you can wait a little longer maybe you can hold out til the HTC Ville comes out.
i just got my htc amaze and let me you man, i do not regret getting it at all! its amazing! its so fast! and hopefully X will get ICS to work for our phones!

This is the only advantage Sensation has over the Amaze. The Amaze wins in every other regard. Faster, better hardware specs, awesome camera and nicer screen. That said, Bulletproof ROM is quite nice and I can't wait for ICS to hit.
I also come from Nexus One and I absolutely believe Amaze is HTC's best phone to date. Nexus One was fantastic and Amaze is a worthy sucessor. Of course, it you want to wait, I'm sure HTC One X with its quad core will be great as well.

Maybe a good poll idea? The Nexus One will always have a soft spot in my heart too. It's the OG in my book. The MT4G in my opinion may still be the best phone. I get same speeds running CoreDroid (which is a sense ROM btw) on MT4G as I do with my Amaze and it's a single core CPU. I do love my Amaze though. More pleasing to the eyes, and a bigger screen. okay, so i also have been looking to upgrade to an amaze. my last android phone was the mt4g, i traded that for a hd7 to try windows phone as i had gotten a little tired of the current batch of roms that were around and my screen was dying. i am not a fan of sense, i really would never use it, which is driving me away from this phone. is there any chance of an aosp rom in the future, cm7/9, anything non sense. i have read your reasons for why its better than the sensation 4g, and while i would love to have a god camera and a slight amount more of ram, the increased data doesnt effect me in arizona where we dont get real 4g. the sensation is sounding like the better choice atm cuz i like the idea of having a aosp rom and a possible chance of seeing cm9 on my phone. so again if anyone could tell me if there is a chance that aosp will someday (hopefully soon) be on the amaze it would be helpful in helping me decide between the two phones. thank you.

so is the LTE phone.
wanna know when i will get an LTE device? when sprint actually proves that they can follow through in building a network instead of wasting their money on sponsoring nascar.
out here where i'm at, LTE won't be around for another year at least. so why am i going to piss money away on a device that will get 3g connectivity for that time period, only to be upgraded and wasted away after LTE is actually available.
sprint is a joke. and my evo 3D is perfect for now. with ICS being released, it's an entirely new device to me. OS overhaul.

Many of the versions of the HTC Ones are coming with the dual core arm chips because they run faster than the tegra 3 quad cores and use less battery. I read an article yesterday that the AT&T version of the HTC One will be dual core also.
Many of the versions of the HTC Ones are coming with the dual core arm chips because
You won't see any lte quad core devices until late 2012 or early 2013. There are currently no lte modems that support the quadcore chipset. So the s3 will be dual core as well. The s4 chipset it will be running will still make it a beast of a phone.
I'm sticking with sense. Prefer it over aosp 100%
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA
The s3 all day long. I'm in the uk so it'll be quad. Won't be getting LTE anytime soon so won't have the Evo either. If they were both quad then it'll be a case of taste. Seeing as that both will be dual in your case, then I'd say the same goes.
Although I think the CPU and chipset on the s3 might just be the better choice in terms of hardware.

I think it depends on your needs. I'm a big Sense fan too, but more importantly, I've found that one of the most important features to me is the camera quality and especially the shutter speed. I have 3 kids that seem to never stop moving. I had both the EVO 3D and the iPhone 4s, and I ended up taking the iphone with me more often when I left the house because the camera was near the same quality as a mid-range point-n-shoot.
definetly EVO.all galaxy phones are fake-ass copies of iphone.and samsung UI is the ****ties UI i have ever seen.
go for the evo.you won't regret this choice

You make a good point but an obsolete one as well. The original was a copy and the II and III have out grown the iFone. Besides if you are on XDA you would already know to get the Galaxy model as the after market in mods will rival any other phone. Top support is always the Nexus line followed by the Galaxy line. qHD displays are a middle ground between the 720p screen and the 8x6 regular screens. HTC makes quality phones and nothing can take away from that, but Samsung has been a proven leader in electronics and they just about proved that in the phone market with the SII. I have always liked HTC phones, but I have always been highly disappointed by the development support also. They have a good following with highly competent devs, but it was just a few roms and a few kernels. SIII will have more than you can count.
don`t worry about hardware, its all about software and thats something both htc and samsung are good at. for example the evo 3d and sensation had heaps of problems until ics was released and now they run like a totally new device. the sane goes for dual and quad. if you twice as many cores, the software has to be able to use them. luckily tegra will be able to because nvidia pays developers to optimize the games howver the exynos may not. the dual s4 will not have such comp[atibility problems. also the mali 400 gpu is really powerful however it has major compatibility problems. samsung touchwiz is simpler but has s voice and such, sense is prettier but maybe a litle harder to use. the htc has much much much better build quality howver. your choice, i`m going with the evo
Listen....deal breaker...I just read that the S3 will not allow USB file transfers. that's crazy .
I transfer photos and mp3s and ROMS, so how the help is that true??

Why you say that?!
You would be crazy for listening to anyone but yourself. If you want a different phone then get a different phone. You know you will get different answers if you ask this in the gs3 forum so trust your gut.

Yea I know..I just want to read people's different opinions. IS THAT HARD TO ASK..lol. So what's (your info) on how the Nexus 4G LTE stacks up to the Evo 4G LTE?
I don't like Samsung phones.
Come on, you can be more specific..Help a brotha out!
That's all I have, I know what I like and I know what I don't like.

People who say this are still living in the past. Samsung has come a long way since the Moment and is no longer the company you think it is. In saying that, I would no way in hell trade the EVO in for a Nexus. Now for a GS3, that's a different story.

I am aware that they have improved, I still don't like them. It has nothing to do with living in the past. I thought about switching to the gs3 about a month ago, but I don't like the design or screens. I never even owned a Moment.
I feel the same about the GS3 screen and look of the device. But let's not make this about the GS3.
The reason I'm considering the Nexus 4G LTE is cause of its Slick looks and screen. But wanted some input on how it stacks up to the Evo 4G LTE.
Performance & Hardware/software!

Youre asking a question that in a way can't be answered, I can tell you this, this, the 4g lte in my opinion has more features, I like to theme, and the HTC is easier to theme. But what the guy said about going with your gut, or what you want then you have to get that device.
It's hard to give reasons as to why or why not to get a certain phone, it's all personal preference

One of the biggest critiscisms of the gs3 is the SAMOLED screen. And samsungs continued use of them in future devices. Imo, if they changed to slcd and put more style into their devices using metal and less scratchable plastic then I would probably be a buyer. Oh yeah, touchwiz really sucks for me. It's like iphone.
Yea I know its all about personal preferences. My personal preference told me to cop this right here: Evo 4G LTE
But as I was looking through the Sprint store. The Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE caught my eye..Funny how that works! I didn't feel a thing when I saw the GS3.
But I went with what I know best and did my personal review on it and purchased the HTC Evo 4G LTE.
But my eye still was concern of the Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE!
So I made this thread to find out from thy!
Been reviewing it but, can't really find anything "Goodies" about it.
So, you tell me!?
Found a Great vs Review! Keep in mind this was in May! Plus I don't care much for the GS3. This is strictly for The Two Devices Listed Down Below.
This sumed it up for me! Good thing it shows the differences between camera. I see that the Nexus camera is more of a square format then a wide format. So that right there is a no go on my end. But yea, they are both Superior devices. Wish I can own both...But oh well....

Processor and Memory:
Samsung uses a 1.2GHz dual core TI OMAP4460 processor, while EVO 4G LTE is powered by a dual core Qualcomm S4. Both run on 1GB of RAM. The Samsung opts for 32GB of internal storage, whereas HTC only offers 16GB built-in but has expandable memory for another possible 64GB. HTC also partnered with Dropbox to give users activating an EVO 4G LTE 25GB of free cloud storage. Both run the OS quickly and fluidly, and in everyday use it is likely that you wouldn’t notice much of a difference. There is something to be said for the heavy graphical load of Sense 4.0 and how well the EVO 4G LTE handles it.
When it comes to benchmarks, however, the EVO 4G LTE mops the floor with the Nexus. Besting our previous scores, the EVO 4G LTE was able to achieve just shy of 5500 on Quadrant Standard, with the Galaxy Nexus topping out just over 2000 at its best. Nenamark 2 gave similar results, with the EVO 4G LTE topping out at 58.8fps and the Galaxy Nexus less than half that 24.9fps. On AnTuTu the EVO 4G LTE maxed out a few points shy of 7000, with the Galaxy Nexus far behind at about 5100 (with the rest of its scores down in the mid 4000s.) It is pretty clear that Qualcomm’s latest and greatest is up the challenge of some heavy computing.
Camera:
A reworked camera app was one of the selling points of Android 4.0, and we have to say we’re impressed with the instant capture feature that the Galaxy Nexus offers. The interface is better, but still clunky and worlds behind the HTC interface found on the EVO 4G LTE. The technology behind the Nexus’ camera is also lagging behind; Samsung opted for a 5 megapixel f2.8 camera while HTC went with an 8 megapixel f2.0 with backside illumination. Both are capable of producing some great shots, and at times the Galaxy Nexus bested the EVO 4G LTE, but the majority of the time the HTC outperformed the Samsung.
Colors were more natural with the EVO 4G LTE, details were crisper and tricky lighting conditions were handled much better. The Galaxy Nexus struggled with color saturation, backlight situations and light/dark contrast (such as shooting shadows.) The EVO 4G LTE bested the Galaxy Nexus especially indoors, where the latter had a tendency to lose details quickly, as evidenced by the pantry shot.
Conclusion:
These are undoubtedly the two best Android devices Sprint has to offer, and really are two of the best smartphones available today. Some of this is going to come down to preferences, for example Sense versus stock or AMOLED versus S-LCD. All things considered the HTC EVO 4G LTE was the better performer of the pair in our opinion. It offers a superior display, top notch performance, excellent call quality and has an inspired design. The Galaxy Nexus is not without merit, and we would certainly carry one as our everyday phone if one were handed to us, but given the choice the HTC edges out the Nexus in too many categories to call it even.
Id say youre nuts but do what you feel is right for you, never understood why people want others to make up their mind for them

I take it you did not read my post's correctly. But yea, thanks for your input.
I came from the og Evo to the galaxy nexus. It's pure Google which can't be beat and is very easy to root. It's a sweet phone. I thought I could never part with me Evo but I never looked back..
