What kind of phone do you have? I was just having this problem when I upgraded to rooted gingerbread.. What happened was my radio didn't upgrade.. Go to settings/about phone and look at the baseband it should end in .12p.. If it's still on .07 that's the problem.. You need to SBF back to .340 & redo the process downloading and flashing part 1&2 of rooted gingerbread.. I just had to do this yesterday.

im on the atrix with n_01.77.30p
Have you tried going to settings/data manager/data delivery/and turn on the data enabled function.. If that doesn't work you might have to call your carrier and have them reset your data plan..

Anyone else having problems receiving MMS messages? I get a "download" button in the message but after I tap it no image appears. I dont see them in my Gallery either. I've had this happen with messages from iPhones to my Atrix. Any ideas or similar experiences?
Gingerblur 6.0 with Gingerbreak, on top of the 1.83 firmware.

I get that in my stock, unrooted Atrix. In my case, it seems to be due to having data disabled. Go to Settings -> Data Manager -> Data Delivery. I have three buttons, Background Data, Data Roaming & Data enabled. Only background data is checked, because I am generally in reach of a wifi access point.
With "Data enabled" unchecked, I get the Download button when someone sends me a message with a photo. I also can't send photos. If I check "Data enabled" I can both send and receive mms texts.
So, my question is, why isn't a strong wifi signal good enough for mms?? Speedtest.net shows 15Mb/s down, 12Mb/s up, with 29ms ping to Richmond VA over Verizon FiOS and the router is about 15 feet away across the room.
I can use gmail to get photos out over wifi, but mms *has* to have Data Enabled... Not happy about that,
Thanks for the reply. Data delivery is definitely on and my power plan is nighttime saver. I seem to have this happening for normal texts now too.

JdeFalconr,
I had this similar issue when I first got my Atrix... My wife's had no problems but mine was acting just like yours... It so happened that AT&T had disabled my text messaging on my phone number... Just a thought.. Hope it helps or gives you another idea.
Thanks for the suggestion bamastang, but I don't believe that's the case...I was still getting texts just fine.
In any case I finally bit the bullet and did a factory data reset plus flashed the 1.83 SBF and that seems to have done the trick, unsurprisingly. Hopefully the problem doesn't reoccur as I don't care to have to do that again soon.

go to /settings -wireless networks-mobile networks -access point names
push the 4 little squares button on the bottom touch panel and select "reset to default' then on that screen make sure to check the proper box for your area /carrier

Hey thanks muchly for your reply I tried what you suggested which has made my internet quicker bonus I guess however still can't make or receive calls or txts some what perplexing the response I got from Motorola was have you factory reset your phone which I have and I believe this to be the cause as it was running fine before the ota and reset I welcome more ideas thanks again

I'm having an odd issue that I cannot figure out.
I'm running ICS Passion v12 on my T-Mobile Vibrant. I was on stock 2.2, went back to 2.1 with Odin then flashed CWM. I then wiped (data, cache, dalvic) and installed CM7, wiped again and flashed ICS.
Everything on ICS is working except sending SMS. I can place & receive calls, receive texts, but every time I try to send one I get a "Message Not Sent" notification. I don't have a data plan with the phone but do have unlimited SMS. Does this ROM try to push SMS out through data?
Here is what I've tried. Rebooting, power off & battery pull, wipe and reflashing the ICS ROM multiple times, still no luck. I tried to flash CM7 again to see if I can send messages there but the ICS recovery wouldn't take the zip file. Tried to restore stock and it had an error with the boot image.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I should do?
Update: I entered *#*#4636#*#* in my dialer and went selected Phone Info. Under SMSC it was black. I selected Refresh and am getting a "refresh error" message. Do any of you have something listed there?
Solved Replaced T-Mobile SIM card and I can now send SMS.
Looks like sending picture messages is working, still just having the problems sending SMS.
Are you on simple setting? Go to wireless network and access point and see.

SOLVED
Issue Solved
All I needed was a new T-Mobile SIM card.
Android 2.3 and up uses PDU mode for sending SMS. My old SIM card couldn't handle the upgrade to 4.0.3. It was working on stock because it is only 2.2.
MMS not working
So you were able to send MMS? I upgraded to Passion v12 *BETA* and now I can't send or receive MMS. Everything else works including SMS

Yes MMS always worked, as long as data is turned on. It may be an issue similar to mine where the SIM card is bad. T-mobile just handed me one free and it was a 5 minute phone call to activate it.
Check your APN settings. I had same issue. Google T-Mobile apn settings and compare. This is what mine was missing: MMS Proxy: 261.155.165.050 MMS Port: 8080 Works great now.

Might be a sim card issue. I will try to replace with a new one and then let you know if that was the problem. Thanks!

Alright so it turned out that the MMS app wasn't resizing the photos, so they were being rejected because it was too large. I cropped a photo to test that out and it worked. APN settings are configured too. Anyway, I ended up getting Handcent. Wayyyyy better haha.
Randomly this evening, my phone has decided that it no longer wants to send any MMS messages. I can send SMS messages just fine, but MMS messages do not go through. They sit for a while, and then it just says that the text message cannot be sent.
Anyone have any suggestions that don't involve factory resetting?

You have 2 options.
1)do master reset and retest it.
2) call your cell carrier.
I had a similar problem a few nights ago. All I had to do was reboot it.
That's all I need to do for a few random glitches.

Do you have data disabled? I noticed when data is disabled, mms do not go through..
Sent from my XT910 using Tapatalk
No, data was enabled. I was able to browse the internet and such, so I don't think it was a connectivity problem. But it's fixed now, so I guess it really doesn't matter.

Okay. When I said it was fixed that was actually a lie. It's started doing it again. I have no idea what caused it, but it will sometimes work and sometimes not. Any ideas anyone?

Will it be the APN settings problems?
In some country you have to set your mms APN manual
Mine does the same thing. A restart is only a temporary fix because it has done it again a day later or so. I have not found anything to fix it yet.
I am on 4g. Not on wifi. unlimited messages.

Try this on dialpad
*#*#4636#*#*
Wacth phone services
Then tap second right update buttom
It must be filled with Service Center Number, for sms/mms data. If you get 'update error', you may have a bug in system that prevents it from correctly setup of older sim cards (mostly cutted ones), if so, buy a new micro sim. It's cheap and solves a lot of small problems
Thanks, and if helps any way, share the learnin'

I tried this but every time I entered the code nothing popped up. But I think I've figured it out. It appears to only happen when I'm connected to a WiFi network. So I guess I just have to disconnect from WiFi if I want to send an MMS message.

Well, it'd boring this way. Try Apn Droid Pro on G play, it will keep mms on

I had the same issue, tried a number of things to fix it. Called Verizon and apparently it's a known issue that they expect to be fixed with the upcoming GB update. Other than that the only way I was able to workaround was installing Go SMS Pro, which sent MMS messages fine.
I figured out what the problem is! It stems back to the problem the Razr has with switching between 3G and 4G. In my house, I have to use WiFi because I live on the edge of a 4G service area. I get maybe one bar of 4G service, which without WiFi, pretty much refuses to do anything having to do with data. Apparently, even though WiFi is enabled, the MMS messages are NOT being transmitted over WiFi. So instead, it attempts to send them over 4G cellular data and fails because of the poor reception in my house. Switching the phone from CDMA/LTE to CDMA only before sending the messages (my signal reception jumps to 4 bars) allows it to send without failing.
